This is an AU where Remus and Tonks both survived the war.
Word count: 322
Birds chirped around them. Tonks took a deep breath, soaking in the nature. She liked it here; it was peaceful. She hadn't had anything like this when she was a kid. There hadn't been any woods around her house to play in, and the Forbidden Forest had been off limits once she reached school. Despite her occasional rule-breaking, that was one she'd followed.
Remus, on the other hand, was at home here. His shoulders were more relaxed than usual, and a small smile graced his lips as the leaves crunched under their feet. Part of his happiness might have been the war being over, but Tonks knew that wasn't the whole story.
"It's nice here," she said, tilting her head back to watch a bird flit from one branch to another.
"Yeah." Remus' voice had a dreamy quality. "I used to spend hours in these woods as a kid. My parents didn't care as long as I came home in time for dinner."
"I'd have done that too if I'd had a place like this." Tonks ran her hand along a moss-covered tree.
Remus hummed in agreement. Tonks watched as he maneuvered over a fallen branch with a grace that she would never possess herself. There was colour in his cheeks from the exertion of their walk that she didn't often get to see.
"What if we moved here?" she suggested.
Remus turned to her, his eyes wide. "Really?" he asked. "But you wanted to live close to your parents…"
Tonks shrugged. "We can always Floo to see them whenever we want." She looked around her again. "It's nice here, and I'm sure Teddy would love running around these woods like you did."
Remus' smile grew soft. "I hope so."
Tonks took his hands. "Then what do you say?"
Remus nodded, the smile growing on his face. "We should start looking at houses."
Tonks laughed and pulled him in for a kiss.
