Krystal stared at the fox in amusement. She was unsure what to make of this rollercoaster of events.
A mere few moments ago, she was on the verge of losing her young ward to the Sharp claws. The next thing she knew, another fox had shown up out of nowhere and knocked out the other Sharpclaws, freeing the Princess in the process.
Yet no sooner had he finished, he was suddenly drooling at the sight of her, if only for a brief moment. He had quickly regained his composure after realizing what he had done.
Regardless, she felt she should thank him. Yet, at the same time, a part of her was still cautious. She did not know this man, nor did she know his intention. She usually wouldn't do this, but she had to be certain. Focusing, she read the vulpine's immediate thoughts and memories. She saw how he had monitored the conversation with the Sharpclaws and jumped in to assist her.
This was a promising sign; he seemed to be a good person, judging off that. But what really got her was the recent memory of why he was here.
"He's trying to save this world! Maybe he could prove a valuable ally." Krystal realized.
Not wasting any more time, she spoke.
"Greetings. Thank you for your assistance back there; I thought I would have lost the Princess if you hadn't come along. My name is Krystal."
"Even her name is lovely." Fox thought before coming to his senses again.
"It's no problem; I could never let some thugs harm an innocent. I saw what had happened right before you fought those guys. No way was I going to let them harm you or the child. Oh, but where are my manners? My name is Fox, Fox Mcloud."
Suddenly, Kyte spoke up. "It's a pleasure to meet you as well, Fox. Thanks again for freeing me from those Sharpclaw. I am Kyte, Princess of the Cloudrunners."
Guessing it was the appropriate response, he bowed to her. He had little practice addressing royalty. Turning back to the vixen, he figured he could try to learn a bit more from her.
"I must say, you fight very well. And I was not expecting to meet another of my kind on this planet. Though I take it, you are not from here?" He asked, noting the modern rain jacket she wore over her tribal garments. The vulpine was confused at her mixed attire, seeing as it mixed modern with ancient-looking garbs.
Krystal was unsure if she should explain her circumstances entirely. She instead opted to give a simple response." "No, I am from very far from here. I came to this planet for reasons of my own. But, I caught wind of its plight and aim to save it," She explained." I take it you would have seen what happened to the surface from orbit, yes?"
Fox was a bit surprised she could so accurately guess such information but affirmed that he had indeed seen the floating chunks of the planet. "That's why I am here, honestly," He said, not revealing anymore to her. He could not just spill the beans to someone he had just met. But maybe he could get some directions at least. "Look, miss. I am currently trying to locate the Earthwalker Tribe. I have some questions I feel they could answer—any idea where I might find them," Fox asked, trying to get to the point.
Krystal figured this was a good chance to ask. Though they had only just met, she had seen what his intentions were. If she could convince him how their interests aligned, then maybe she could gain his assistance in her mission. She was confident in her own abilities, but an extra set of hands never hurt." "Yes, actually, I think I could. You see, the Queen Earthwalker has enlisted my aid to free her son from a Sharpclaw base. Now, we just met, but I can already tell you aim to aid this world. As am I," Krystal began.
Fox, however, became a bit suspicious." "You seem good at pinpointing information about me. It's kinda uncanny," He said, unsure what to make of it."
"I know a noble soul when I see one" "Krystal, telling only a half-truth, "Look, I know our interests align. I have been sent on a mission by Queen Earthwalker to rescue her son. If you help me rescue the Earthwalker Prince, the Queen will be sure to aid you however you might need." Krystal reasoned.
Fox was hesitant. This woman seemed to be a kind soul, but trusting a stranger was a gamble. Yet, at the same time, she had made an infallible point. In fact, she was deadly accurate about his goals. And it made sense: Fox was seeking aid from the Earthwalkers anyways. It seemed like he had everything to gain from this arrangement: a direction for his mission and the assistance of a strong(and pretty) warrior.
"Alright, I am convinced. Can't really argue with that logic."
Krystal smiled. "Excellent. Now, the Queen said the Prince is being held on Ice Mountain. We must use the Warpstone to get there, although he requires a gift for his services. Any questions?" Krystal asked, forgetting the male fox had little knowledge of the planet."I barely know what half of those things you just said are," Fox retorted bluntly.
Suddenly Kyte stepped in and explained." "Ok, so that big rock guy over there is the Warpstone," She said, gesturing to the suggested of the hollow. "He can, as his name suggests, teleport us to specific points of the planet. But we need to bring him a gift first, maybe from that Thorntail store. I think I can show you two where that is." The Princess finished before taking flight and gesturing for the two foxes to follow her.
Sighing, Fox and Krystal followed the child until they came across some kind of stone structure with a ramp descending down it.
(The entrance in-game entrance makes no sense for a world of dinosaurs. How do they get in?)
"He should be down in there. Krystal can take the lead; I don't like caves much," Kyte finished before perching on a nearby rock to wait." "Thank you, Kyte. I will take it from here" The vixen thanked her young ward as she led Fox down into the store.
Waling down, they eventually came upon a doorway with a curtain over it. Walking through it, the duo were greeted with a surprisingly well carved out shop, with a large, stone room containing several doorways, each marked with a sign showing a specific set of items.
Suddenly, a puff of magic energy formed in front of them, with a strange, floating dinosaur manifesting out of it. "Ah, a pair of customers. Welcome to my store, you two. I have everything you could ever need in these walls," He said in an odd, slightly high-pitched voice.
The duo was baffled at him; he looked nothing like any of the other tribes on the planet they had seen or heard of. To say nothing of the magic powers he demonstrated. He just oozed with an air of mystery. Regardless, they required his services.
Krystal was the one who spoke." "Greetings, we were told you might sell something the Warpstone might accept as a gift"
The Shopkeeperdidn'tt miss a beat." Of course, I have many things; come with me," He said, gesturing for the duo to follow as he floated into a room marked with a question mark. Inside was many unique items, including a Golden Fruit of some sort and a strange stone. The duo gravitated towards the stone, feeling it best suited for a gift to a rock creature.
Noticing this, the Shopkeeper elaborated on it." "Ah, this is a bit of rock candy. Certain tribes enjoy it. A perfect gift for the Warpstone," He said, trying to entice them to buy." "Only ten scarabs"
Fox recognized the Saurians used those bugs as currency from the intel but realized he did not have any. Krystal realized the same thing but then recalled how Kree had mentioned on their flight that these bugs often lived underground. She needed to go back out and grab a few. All she needed was an excuse to leave." "Uh, I think I dropped my scarabs outside. Let me go get them." The blue vixen said, halfheartedly, before walking back outside to look under some rocks. It was too embarrassing for her to say she had walked into the store without any scarabs. This left Fox and the Shopkeeper to stand there awkwardly for a bit.
Trying to break the awkward silence, Fox decided to make small talk." "So… why are you able to float? And what tribe are you supposed to be from anyways" He asked, bluntly.
The Shopkeeper rolled his eyes in response." Everyone asks me that, "He muttered." "I don't give personal details; I just run my store. Summon me when your girlfriend returns." And with that, he vanished again, leaving Fox alone to browse." "Well, that was awkward. And she is not my girlfriend."
Krystal had dashed back outside and started lifting a few rocks, looking for Scarabs. After lifting rock after rock, she had found enough and stuffed them in her coat pockets. She then dashed back inside the store.
Kyte, meanwhile, had watched the vixen from her perch, lifting rock after rock. She stood dumbfounded, unsure why the vixen was doing that. "Well, that was weird." "She thought as she watched Krystal return to the store, not saying anything.
Coming back in, Krystal returned to the room she left Fox in.
"I'm back," She announced, causing the Shopkeeper to reappear before the duo.
"I take it you found your lost scarabs," He said dryly. Krystal nodded." "Good, now onto business. As I mentioned before, you will pay ten Scarabs" Sure," The vixen said, handing them over. Fox then picked up the rock candy, finding it slightly heavy. The two foxes then left the store, with the Shopkeeper waving them off.
Coming out of the shop, the two foxes were greeted by Kyte." "Krystal, you're back. And I see you bought a rock," Kyte said, unsure of what the stone would do for them. She then shrugged," "Well, we did suggest this as a gift earlier."
Krystal just laughed." "It's rock candy. Now come, let's make our way to the Warpstone," She said, letting Kyte perch on her shoulder. Fox trailed behind them, rebuffing Krystal's attempts to aid him with carrying the rock.
"Suit yourself, then," Krystal had replied.
Eventually, the trio made it to the Warpstone's circle. He was situated on a small island, surrounded by a ring of water. The trio gazed up at his sleeping form, amazed at the creature. Trying to get his attention, Krystal greeted him. "Hello" was all the vixen had to say.
At that, the ground began to shake a bit, and the Warpstone awoke. He glanced down at the trio before him before addressing them in a loud voice. "Who dares bother the mighty Warpstone? I haven't had any visitors in a long time. I hope you brought an offering, per the old traditions," He announced.
Nodding, Fox dropped the rock candy right before him. "Aw, rock candy, my favorite," The stone said, taking the candy and enjoying it. After he had finished, he offered his services to the trio. "Thank you. Now, what can I do for you three" Fox was the one who spoke up. "We are trying to reduce the Earthwalker prince. The Sharpclaw can have on Ice Mountain. We were told you could warp us there" The male fox addressed the stone, trying to get straight to the point." "No problem. Just step onto my hand, and I will get you there," The stone giant said, holding out his palm. The trio, initially hesitant, stepped onto it. After a second, the Warrpstone began using his powers, and the trio was transported to the Ice Mountian.
After what felt like an eternity going through space and time, as best as the trio understood it, they suddenly found themselves inside some kind of cave with a rocky pad on it. Fox was dizzied by the experience, as was the princess. Krystal had been used to the teleportation by now. It seemed the warp pad they had used was meant for only a single person at a time.
"Well, that was weird. " Fox noted, getting on his feet, he turned his gaze towards Kyte, who had landed on her back. "You ok there, kid?" He asked, concerned. After a few moments, the Princess got back up. "Fine for the most part, never been through anything like that before," She finished, still dizzy.
Fox was still baffled by the experience. "Never seen anything like that before. This magic stuff is nothing short of amazing."
After shaking off the thought, he began shuffling through his bag for the parka he had brought. Putting it on over it his flight jacket and uniform, he inquired about the others. "Will you two be ok? It is pretty cold, you know."
Kyte was uncertain; her kind was adjusted to lower temperatures due to the high altitudes they flew, but this was different. As for Krystal, she claimed she would be in her get-up, but Fox doubted it.
Krystal then thought for a moment. It's similar to the kind of magic we had back home. But Cerinia never had teleportation or talking stone giants. There must be more to this Warpstone than I thought," She pondered before shaking her head. She would have to investigate it later. They had a prince to rescue." "Come on, let's get a move on"
With that, everyone started making their way through the cave, but it quickly dawned on the group just how cold it was. Kyte began shivering a bit while Krystal, who had fur, resisted the cold just a bit better.
Fox noticed this and began looking through his pack for something. Digging around, the best he could find for Kyte was a blanket. "Maybe we can wrap it around her like a cloak," He thought before turning to Krystal. "Krystal, a rain jacket will do you no good. Here, take this," He said, removing his flight jacket and handing it to the bit's vixen." It's not perfect, but it's way better than a rain jacket for this weather"
Krystal, realizing he was right, accepted it, and begun stripping out of her rain jacket. She then handed it to Fox, who stuffed it in his bag. She then put on the coat he had handed her. "Thank you, Fox", she said. She noted how this made the vulpine blush just a tad, but she ignored it. Turning her attention to the young Princess, she noted how Fox was handing her a blanket. Kyte just starred at it.
"What am I going to do with this? It looks warm, but will it get in the way of my wings" She asked. "Look, girl, I don't have anything else that would keep you warm. The best we can do is try to wrap under your wings," He said, being met with another doubtful look." Look, it's this, or you might freeze. Unless, of course, you want to hide in a jacket the whole time here" Fox responded a bit more sternly.
Conceding, Kyte asked Krystal to wrap the blanket around her. After positioning it the best she could, so it would not interrupt her flight, they kept moving forward. Coming out of the cave, the trio was met with a vast, snowy forest. It seemed they were going to need to look hard to find any trace of this base. Krystal began using her telepathic senses, trying to pick up any emotions from the region. Eventually, she picked up a faint feeling of despair coming from the north.
"They're to the North, come on," The vixen said, signally for the others to follow. Fox was confused. "How could you know that? We just got here."
"I'll explain it later. Now come on," She said, stomping onward. Fox, not having any other options, resigned himself to follow her. And with that, Fox trudged through the snow, trailing behind Krystal. He caught a glimpse of Kyte, who had perched on Krystal's back and seemed to be attempting to keep herself warm in the vixens fur. Krystal, though, did not seem bothered by this.
The group trudged through the snow for at least another couple of hours, navigating the frozen forests and mountainsides. Krystal seemed to be the one setting the pace, as she never seemed to let up in her search for the Sharpclaw war camp. Aided by her telepathy and tracking skills, she maintained her lead. Eventually, the group came to a stop on top of a ledge, overlooking a large passage through the mountain. Glancing down, they noticed many sets of footprints in the pass just below them. The trails seemed to have been left by bipedal creatures. It was no mystery who these belonged to.
"Looks like we found the Sharpclaw," Fox stated, with the others nodding in agreement. "And all we have to do now is follow the tracks back to their base," Kyte chimed in.
"Exactly," Krystal stated. "Come on, let's get a move on."
Climbing down, the trio began following the tracks. They did not have to follow them for long before the group saw smoke coming into view. Climbing back onto the nearby evaluation, the trio found a cliff face from which they could get a good view. As they approached it, they caught a view of the enemy war camp.
The war camp was a bit like the one Krystal had seen when she got to the planet. It was an impressive sight, situated at a cliffside with wooden walls erected at the front and a giant door in the middle of them. Behind this wall, a large area contained wooden huts, likely troop barracks, and weapon racks propped up all around. On one end of the camp, a group of cages was left lying around, on top of the others. Nothing seemed to be inside of them at first glance. The only thing of note in the camp was several hoverbikes parked near a slope at the back of the base. Fox made a note of this for his report. But the structures of the camp were not what caught the group's attention.
The occupants of the war camp were gathered around in the center, near a fire. Inside, a large green Sharpclaw adorned in gold armor and a red cloak bearing the Sharpclaw logo appeared to be addressing a large group of soldiers, each a different size and color. Their weapons and armor were miscellaneous and did not have much in the way of uniformity. He seemed to be giving them orders. But most jarringly of all was the dinosaur standing next to the leader. Each of the trio was a bit shocked, but Kyte was in particular.
Right next to the Sharpclaw leader, a large, orange Cloudrunner stood by, ideally. He was notably larger than the other Cloudrunners Krystal had met, even Kree. He wore armor similar to the Cloudrunner Royal Guards, but his armor seemed to be painted with the Sharpclaw insignia. He had a red fabric on his chest plate, identical to what the other higher ranking Sharpclaws Krystal had encountered wore. The trio was caught off guard at what to make of all this. "What is a Cloudrunner doing with the Sharpclaw?" Kyte asked, baffled. "I don't know, Kyte. Let's see what we can make of it." Krystal replied before trying to focus on their thoughts. It proved difficult, however. She could sense emotions from far away, but only faintly. Reading one's thoughts took up more focus. The range between her group and the enemies did nothing to help the difficulty. It would take a moment to get a bead on his mind.
Fox, meanwhile, fished a pair of high-tech binoculars out of his pack. Zooming in, he turned on the sound amplifier it came equipped with, trying to make out the conversation. "Give me a moment; I might be able to pick up what they are discussing," He said before focusing on his task.
After zooming in on the leader crowd, Fox noted that the lead Sharpclaw had turned away from his soldiers, who left to resume their tasks and began conversing with the rogue Cloudrunner. Keeping his view steady, Fox turned up the mic on the binoculars, trying to make out what they said. Messing with the dial a bit, he finally picked up the audio.
"So, is everything ready then?" The Cloudrunner asked.
"Of course. We move out tomorrow. We have the Earthwalkers at a disadvantage; with their King and Prince in our custody, they are vulnerable. Only their Queen has evaded us." The leader replied," With any luck, the party we sent down to the hollow took care of her by now. "He added. a sadistic smile crossing his face.
"Good, I always hated their kind." The rogue Cloudunner replied. "Though there's the matter of my tribe. I will be flying to Scales shortly to aid him in his plan. He suspects that Queen Cloudrunner will be going after one of the Spell Stones. We have a trap set up just for them; using a Stone as bait," The Cloudrunner was heard to say over the audio.
Fox merely shook his head in disgust. He was about to turn it off when he heard a final piece that grabbed his attention. "As for my niece, I hope you find her soon. Scales told me a blue vixen and the Royal Guard Captain rescued her from the galleon. If you find her, report it to me. I have use for her," He said, before adding, "Just try to keep her unharmed." The rogue added.
The lead Sharpclaw scoffed at that" We will try. No promises, though. Well, until next time, Revallos," The leader said as he turned away from the rogue, who just rolled his eyes in response.
Fox was curious as he immediately connected the dots. "Blue vixen? It could only mean Krystal. I will have to discuss this rogue with her and the princess later." He thought as he switched off the mic and begun scanning the camp for signs of the Earthwalker Prince.
Krystal, meanwhile, finally managed to decipher a few of the rogue's thoughts. "Finally, my chance for power has come. I can't wait to see the look on the Queen's face once we're through with her. Well, best be on my way."
Having had read some of the rogue Cloudrunner's thoughts, Krystal was discussed at his traitorous actions and of what Kyte would have to say about it. "Such poisonous ambitions. We'll inform Kree next chance we get" Krystal, thought. Remembering their goal here, she pushed those thoughts aside for the moment and asked Fox if he had spotted the Prince yet.
"Think I got a bead on him. Take a look," He said, handing her the binoculars and gesturing towards the cages. Upon closer inspection, Krystal noticed a small creature curled up in one. She noted how he appeared to be yellowish-brown, like the Queen and had a purple streak along his back. He sported a single horn on his snout. This had to be the target. "Alright, what's our plan of action?" Krystal inquired, readying herself.
As if in response to her question, a group of Sharpclaw had begun making their way towards the Prince. It looked as though they intended to move him. The rogue Cloudrunner had begun flying away by this point, leaving the rest of the camp to carry out whatever other orders the leader had given.
"We don't have much time. They seem to be moving the Prince" Fox scanned the camp, noting a nearby cliff, which was high enough that they could jump onto the top of the wall. He then glanced at the hoverbikes in the back. Like clockwork, a plan formed in his head. "Here's our plan: we infiltrate the camp from that cliff there, then we make for the hoverbikes in the back," He said, getting up. "I think you missed a few steps. Like how we get past the Sharpclaws," Krystal snarked." We don't have much time for logistics; we will have to wing it," Fox said before dashing for the cliff he mentioned.
Krystal rolled her eyes before turning to Kyte. "Stay out of range; we will deal with the Sharp claws. Meet us by those crafts in the back of the camp," She ordered." But what about that Cloudrunner?" She asked, still shocked by what she had seen.
Krystal put her hands on Kyte'ssshoulders. "Look, we will have to discuss that later. For now, we must rescue the Prince." The vixen said. Accepting what she said, Kyte nodded and flew up, trying to get a bead on things.
Krystal then dashed to join Fox, who had already begun his descent into the camp. He had sprinted with impressive speed, taking the Sharpclaw guard out by surprise with his baton. He then sprinted to the other end of the wall, which was a bit closer to where the cages were.
From there, he hopped off the wall onto a structure and began making for the cages.
Krystal, meanwhile, had followed suit. Proceeding to where Fox had run, she joined him in hiding behind a wooden structure, eyeing the Sharpclaws at the cages. It had seemed they had not been noticed quite yet.
"So what's our plan of action," She asked, her staff at the ready." "Wait for them to open the cage, then we take them by surprise. We are going to have to move quickly. By my guess, we will have a couple of seconds to ambush them. "He stated, readying his baton.
The Sharpclaw, meanwhile, had opened Tricky's cage. The prince woke up immediately upon hearing them enter and snarled at the Sharpclaw. The largest one merely laughed be for cornering the prince and tying a rope around his neck. "Get moving, kid.
And don't even think about trying to run off. Or you will receive more than just a few bruises this time." The brute threatened. Tricky whimpered in response before complying with the Sharpclaw.
Seeing this, Fox signaled for Krystal to begin her attack. With that, the two vulpines sprang their attack. Fox elected a sharp claw in the back, while Krystal killed another one with the sharp tip of her staff. Knocking at a third enemy with his baton, Fox then made for the larger Sharpclaw. Caught off guard, the brute went down quickly, thanks to the two foxes' joint efforts. They then turned their gazes to the prince, who was surprised at what had just happened. "That was awesome! Are you here to rescue me? "He asked, happy to see his tormenters brought down.
Krystal was the one who spoke up. "Yes, young one. Your mother sent us. We are here to bring you back to her," She began, uniting the leash from his neck. "But we have to hurry; follow us."
Nodding, Tricky followed Krystal's commands. The group was hoping they could dash for the bikes when they suddenly heard yelling. "INTRUDERS! They are going for the Prince; stop them" a sentry had spotted the two foxes freeing the prince. Without hesitation, each Sharpclaw in the area began grabbing brandishing their weapons, and ran over to the cages.
Fox spoke quickly: "Krystal, take the prince and make a break for the bikes; I will be right behind you," He ordered, used to giving commands during a mission. Krystal nodded before telling Tricky," Stay close, and keep dashing for the hoverbikes" The what?" Tricky asked, not knowing what a hove bike was. Krystal, however, had little time to explain.
"Just run for those metal things at the back of the camp," She said, sprinting in that direction with the Prince in tow. Along her path, she encountered more Sharpclaw. She wasted little time with them, dodging most of them and taking out the weaker ones who got in her way. As she maintained her sprint, she noted a large group blocking her path. She bombarded the Sharpclaws with a barrage of fire blasts, dropping at least two of them and forcing any others to take cover. But the rest of the enemy soldiers had begun forming a circle around her, trying to cut her off. It became clear she had to fight her way through them.
At the forefront was a tall, green brute. He aimed his ax at the vixen, but she skillfully dodged his blow, then countered with a job of her own. Disoirtenintg the Sharpclaw, she charged the magic in her staff, intent to use it in a powerful blow. Charging a magic blast within her staff, she whacked the Sharpclaw in the chest, unleashing the built-up energy. The blast sent the brute flying into the smaller Sharpclaw behind him. Seeing their chance, Krystal and the prince quickly made for the bikes.
Fox was following suit, having engaged a few Sharpclaw to provide a distraction. Then he had knocked out a few of the smaller, less trained ones with ease. He was about to sprint for the bikes when he suddenly was met with a large enemy in his path.
The camp leader stood in his path, sword in hand." You're not getting away that easily" He sneered.
Fox, on instinct, grabbed his baton and attempted to execute the leader, but, with surprising grace, the leader dodged his attacks. With lightning-fast reflexes, the leader Sharpclaw grabbed his baton by the handle and disarmed Fox. He then snapped the baton in two on his leg before engaging Fox further.
The vulpine was briefly stunned at the agility this Sharpclaw had displayed but quickly got over it. He might almost pose a threat.
Luckily for Fox, he had dealt with far worse than an oversized lizard.
The leader slashed at Fox with his sword but repeatedly failed to land a hit. With his trained reflexes, Fox dodged each blow with ease. Eventually, he managed to sidestep the leader and caught his sword in his grasp. Thinking fast, Fox kicked the leader in the face, causing him to lose his grip on the sword, which fell into Fox's grasp. Taking advantage, the mercenary quickly stabbed the leader in an exposed spot on his leg, causing the lizard to fall to the ground in pain.
Not seeing any point in killing him now, Fox resumed his dash to the hoverbikes, having slung the sword across his back. (It had a sash on the back of it.) "This thing looks like it could be of some use," The fox mused as he caught up to Krystal, who was still there." "What are you still doing here? Go!" Fox yelled. "Waiting for Kyte. We can't leave her," Krystal replied." Who's Kyte?" The prince asked from the back of Krystal's bike.
"No time to explain, Prince. I will get her, Krystal. Now move"
And with that, the vixen nodded and sped off down the slope. As expected, Kyte flew in shortly after. "There you are; I was worried for a second there," She began, relieved her acquaintance was ok. " I had been watching from above. Those Sharpclaw have no idea what hit them. My uncle will be impressed." Kyte complimented.
"Appreciate it; now let's move," Fox said, hopping on a hoverbike.
"Wait, I can't fly fast enough to follow you on that," Kyte replied, flustered, after seeing how fast Krystal sped off on it.
Fox thought quickly, "Well, you're in luck. I have some room for you in my pack, I think." He said, opening his pack.
"You cannot be serious." The Cloudrunner frowned.
"Look, Kyte, we have no time. I think you would fly off the back of this thing otherwise, with how fast we are going to be moving. Unless you have a very firm grip, this is our best option." Fox said, noting the Sharpclaw would be there any second."
"Oh, alright," Kyte muttered, getting into the top of his bag and attempting to bury herself into it. "Ok, now hang on!" Fox shouted before closing the bag and speeding off down the slope.
The Sharpclaw in the camp were disoriented. With some dead and others, including their leader, wounded, they knew they would catch heat for this with their superiors. Regardless, they still had a job to do. A few of them ran over to the remaining hoverbikes and began their pursuit of the foxes.
And that's a wrap.
At this rate, Kyte and bags might be becoming a running gag. Also, as for how she would fit into it, just assume the bag Fox has in this story is much larger than the one he brought in-game.
Sidenote: A bit of explanation about the rogue Cloudrunner. I won't give any major spoilers, but I figure I should elaborate a bit since I couldn't figure out how to explain in this chapter.
As the dialogue implies, he is Kyte's Uncle, but from her father's side. He is not related to the Queen or Kree by blood. His backstory and motives will be explored in the following chapters.
While writing the drafts for this story, I stumbled on some Dinosaur Planet storyboards while reviewing material from the leaked prototype. That's where I got the idea for him.
Basically, there was a storyboard for Cloudrunner Fortress that involved an evil uncle of Kytes.
I was interested in the concept of rogue members of the heroic dinosaur tribes and thought it would make for an interesting conflict in the story. I almost deleted the evil uncle from this story since Kree is already Kyte's uncle, but I ultimately decided to use it. Hopefully, things don't get too convoluted with him running around.
Also, I will try to be more thorough in my editing from here on.
