A/N: This chapter mostly takes place on Halloween.
Please read and review caused I worked hard on it?
On the 30th of October, a shadow of a man was in a room inside a warehouse, staring down at a gilder - which was similar to the Green Goblin's - a bag, and an orange, blue and brown suit.
"Time to begin my trail run." he smirked, rubbing his hands. "Tomorrow's Halloween Carnival, will be one this city will never forget."
He laughed evilly as he began to put the suit on, then hopped onto the glider, which then powered up. He then flew it through a window, and then out into the city, looking down at it.
"I think I know just where to start my mayhem tonight." he thought.
He turned left as he kept flying his glider over the city.
A little later, Spider-Man was swinging through Times Square, before he landed on the side of a building.
"Well, everything seems quiet." he thought, as his Spider-Sense hadn't felt a disturbance anywhere tonight.
He touched the side of his mask, since he'd put his headset radio on tonight.
"Ghost, everyone's quiet in my area." he reported. "How 'bout yours?"
"Same." Ghost Spider reported through the radio. "I'm already on my way back home because of it."
"Okay. See you tomorrow." Spider-Man said.
"See you, Spidey." Ghost Spider said.
Spider-Man lowered his hand and looked down at the city, seeing nothing unusual.
"Guess I better head home too." he thought.
He turned, and was about to jump off the building, when he saw something in the distance.
"Huh?" he thought.
He looked carefully at the object, then spotted the figure on a glider similar to the Green Goblin's, expect he also had cape and cowl on his costume.
"The Goblin's back!" he gasped. "But that's impossible!"
He jumped and began to swing after the gilder.
"Alright, Goblin, it's..." Spider-Man began.
The figure turned around, showing it wasn't the Green Goblin after all, as this guy was brown and blue, and was more like a medieval goblin.
"Wait, you're not the Green Goblin?" Spider-Man questioned, landing on the side of a building.
"Glad you noticed." the goblin smirked. "I am the Hobgoblin, Spider-Man!"
"Hobgoblin?" Spider-Man questioned.
"That's right." Hobgoblin said.
"Well, either way, I'm bringing you in!" Spider-Man roared.
"Oh, I wouldn't be sure so of that, web-head." Hobgoblin joked.
He took out a Razor Bat from his pouch bag, then threw at it Spider-Man like a boomerang.
"Whoa!" he yelped.
He jumped off the wall, before the Razor Bat hit the wall, wedging itself into it.
"Even his tech like Osborn's?" Spider-Man gasped, before seeing it was more purple and had bigger wings. "Well, nearly at least."
He shot a web from his left hand, then swung up towards Hobgoblin, who glared at him. He then grabbed Spider-Man's foot as he tried to kick him, then he kicked Spider-Man in the butt, making him back flip away, before he landed on a flagpole.
"OH!" he moaned, grabbing it.
He climbed up onto the flagpole, then jumped onto a nearby roof, landing on it. He then turned around, seeing Hobgoblin flying over him on his gilder.
"I'll deal with you later, Spider-Man!" Hobgoblin roared, taking a Pumpkin Bomb from his pouch. "Right now, I have bigger fish to fry."
He threw the Pumpkin Bomb down towards the roof, which hit and exploded near Spider-Man, sending him flying off the rooftop.
"AGHHH!" he yelled.
He fell down from the building, tried to shot a web from his left hand, but nothing came out.
"Oh, man! Not now!" he gasped, as he tried his right hand, but nothing came from there either. "Oh, great! Better use Plan B."
He turned around and spread his arms out, then began gilding down towards a smaller rooftop nearby. Once close to it, he fell over and hit the roof on his chest, then rolled along it.
"OH!" he moaned.
He got to his knees while putting his hand behind his head.
"Oh, my head!" he moaned.
He looked up, and saw Hobgoblin flying away.
"I really blew it this time." he sighed.
He then looked at himself in a nearby puddle, seeing his mask was ruined, as his right eye piece was gone, along with a bit near his chin. He also saw parts of his right shoulder and glove were gone too.
"Good thing I have a spare mask and gloves. I'll have to stich up the shoulder area though." he thought. "I can fix up this mask and glove later."
He jumped off the roof and began swinging home.
"I'll tell Gwen about Hobgoblin tomorrow." he sighed.
Meanwhile, Ghost Spider was swinging towards her house, as she'd just finished her patrol, and because it was almost 10pm, her curfew time. Once she made it, she landed on the roof, then climbed towards her bedroom window, thinking her Dad was still out at work. She opened her window and climbed inside her bedroom, then took off her mask and lowered her hood.
"At least things have been easy tonight." she thought.
She was about to take the top part of her suit off, when the door opened, and her father came in.
"Gwen, I'm back early since..." he began, before spotting her costume. "What's that your wearing?"
Gwen gasped and turned to him, thinking she'd been caught out.
"Oh, man! He'll stop me from doing this! I'm in big trouble!" she thought frantically. "Dad, it's not what you think? It's..."
"Wait, that's your costume for tomorrow's Halloween Carnival isn't it?" her father inquired.
"Um...Yes. Yes, it is." Gwen blushed, relieved. "I was just trying it on."
"Well, it looks good." her father remarked. "Almost like the actual suit."
"Well, thanks, Dad." Gwen said. "I was just getting out of it to go to bed when you came in."
"Oh... Well, sorry Gwen." her father said. "I'm back early since things have been quiet tonight. No disturbances at all. Only just got back a few minutes ago."
"Oh, I see." Gwen said, hiding the face that she already knew. "Well, I've been busy up here with all sorts of stuff - including trying this on."
"Right. Well, goodnight Gwen." her father said.
"Night, Dad." Gwen said.
Capt. Stacy turned and left the room, then Gwen sighed in relief.
"Now that was too close." she thought, as she began to strip from her costume. "Still, guess that sorts out my costume for tomorrow at the carnival."
Once stripped, she put on a set of pyjamas, then got into bed and quickly fell asleep, as she was tried.
The next morning, at Midtown High, Peter was going through the things in his locker, when Gwen came towards him. Once closed, she kissed his cheek, making him blush and turn to her.
"Morning, Peter." Gwen said.
"Morning, Gwen." Peter said.
"Peter, there's something I need to tell you." Gwen whispered.
"Same here." Peter said. "You go first through."
"Well, my Dad caught me in costume last night." Gwen said. "Luckily he thinks I was trying on my costume for the Halloween Carnival tonight. So..."
"Wait, you're going as Ghost Spider?" Peter asked quietly.
"Yep. If I don't, he'll know I was lying." Gwen said. "I was just thinking about..."
"Me going as Spider-Man?" Peter assumed.
"Yeah. Kinda makes sense. At least if there's trouble, all we'll have to do is put our masks on." Gwen joked quietly. "So, what's up?"
"Well, after we cut off contact, I-" Peter began.
"Hey, guys!" Mary Jane called.
Peter and Gwen both turned to her, as she came over towards them.
"Ready for the carnival tonight?" Mary Jane asked.
"Oh, you betcha, M.J." Gwen assured.
"Yeah. But I might be a bit late." Peter said. "I have to drop something off first at the Bugle."
That was partly true, as he had some new photos to give to Jameson.
"Oh, and I need to get something for Dad first." Gwen lied, pretending to recall something.
"Well, as long as you show up, that's something." Mary Jane said.
"Don't worry, we'll be there." Gwen promised.
Mary Jane smiled and turned around, then walked away, as Peter and Gwen turned to each other.
"So, what was it?" Gwen asked.
"I'll tell you after school, but it's important, okay." Peter said. "And something you're probably not gonna believe."
Gwen nodded, before they both entered Prof. Warren's class, just as the bell rang.
Meanwhile, in the warehouse, the Hobgoblin was sitting at a table, loading his pouch bag with all sorts of weapons, from blades to Pumpkin bombs.
"Tonight, I will begin my Halloween trick on the city." he smirked. "Everyone will never forget this Halloween as long as they live."
He laughed as he finished loading up his bag, then he turned around to his glider.
"Now, all I have to do, is wait until tonight." he smirked. "And if you get in the way Spider-Man, or your partner, I will not play so nicely this time."
He laughed evilly while raising his arms up above him.
Later, at Midtown High, the bell rang, then all the students began to leave through the front door. As most people headed for the bus, Peter and Gwen walked off away from the others, since they needed to talk in private.
"So, what's up?" Gwen asked.
"There's a new Goblin in town." Peter explained. "I encountered him last night just after we hung up."
"Oh, no." Gwen sighed. "Wait, new Goblin? Care to explain?"
"Well, this guy called himself the Hobgoblin, and he looked more medieval." Peter explained. "But besides that, his gilder looked exactly like Mr. Osborn's."
"Looks like someone might've stolen it and other equipment from Oscorp then." Gwen deduced. "Good thing it's not Mr. Osborn this time. You know how Harry would react."
"Yeah." Peter sighed. "Let's just hope he doesn't show up tonight at the carnival."
They both turned as Mary Jane came over to them both.
"You two okay?" she asked.
"Yeah." Peter assured.
"Just discussing what we're gonna go as to the carnival." Gwen lied.
"Oh, I see." Mary Jane said. "Well, I'll see you both there. Remember, it's on Bleecker Street."
"We know, M.J." Gwen assured.
Mary Jane smiled as turned around and walked off, leaving Gwen and Peter alone.
"So, since this Hobgoblin guy's around, we have to investigate before we can go?" Gwen assumed.
"I'm afraid so. I don't know what he has planned." Peter sighed. "But since we promised our friends to be there, we'll make a deadline before going to the carnival."
"So, if we don't run into him by 8pm, we head for the carnival?" Gwen assumed.
"Yeah." Peter said.
They both turned and walked off, unknowingly being watched by Prof. Warren, who was eyeing them both.
About an hour later, Spider-Man was swinging through the city, looking around carefully, but saw nothing weird.
"Ghost, anything?" he asked, touching the side of his mask.
(Elsewhere)
Ghost Spider was in another part of the city, currently perched on the side of a building, looking around.
"Negative." she reported. "Everything seems quiet."
"Well, I don't get it. I was sure he said he'd return tonight." Spider-Man recalled.
"Well, if he is, he's not in my area or yours." Ghost Spider deduced.
(Elsewhere)
Spider-Man looked around as he kept swinging through the city.
"Guess we better keep searching." he sighed, as he landed on a flagpole.
"Just remember, we promised M.J. to be at the carnival." Ghost Spider said.
"I understand. If we don't spot something by 6pm, we head over there." Spider-Man said.
"Understood, Spidey. Ghost out." Ghost Spider said.
Spider-Man put his hand down and looked around.
At the Halloween Carnival on Bleecker Street, Mary Jane, who was dressed as a vampire, approached a stall run by Gloria, who was dressed as a tiger.
"Here you go." Gloria said, handing her some candy.
"Thanks." Mary Jane said, nodding.
As she turned and walked off, Harry, who was dressed as Frankenstein, came up behind her and wrapped his arms around her belly.
"Miss me?" he whispered.
"Oh, no I didn't." Mary Jane teased, as he kissed her cheek.
Nearby, Spider-Man and Ghost Spider landed on a rooftop and looked down at the carnival, seeing everyone was normal.
"Well, seems normal. No sign of the Hobgoblin." Ghost Spider noted.
"Yeah." Spider-Man said. "Come on."
They both jumped down into a nearby alley, then took their masks off, Gwen keeping her hood up for show. They both then walked off into the carnival, just as Gloria spotted them.
"Hey, Peter, Gwen, over here!" she called.
Peter and Gwen moved over to her.
"Whoa. Nice costumes." Gloria remarked.
"Thanks." Gwen said. "Yours is good too."
Gloria smiled and held up some candy.
"You have to pay, you know." she said.
"Yeah, we know." Peter assured.
They both handed her some money, then took some candy each.
"Hey!" a voice called.
Peter and Gwen turned around, and saw Flash approaching them, who was dressed as a cheerleader.
"Hey, Flash. What's with the cheerleader costume?" Peter asked.
"Me and Randy had a bet going, and I lost." Flash explained. "Loser had to dress up as a cheerleader on Halloween apparently."
"Oh..." Peter said. "Hey, where is Randy?"
Flash turned around and pointed to Randy, who was dressed as a Werewolf, without his face covered.
"Wow." Gwen said, impressed.
"What made you two dress up as them anyway?" Flash inquired, turning to them.
"Well...I found my suit at a sale and thought I'd try it on." Gwen lied. "And well, my Dad caught me in it last night."
"Oh...And you, Parker?" Flash asked.
"To be honest, thought I'd see how it felt, since I take their pictures." Peter lied.
"Okay, fair enough." Flash said, acceptingly.
He turned and walked off, as Harry and Mary Jane both approached them.
"Hey, there you are." Harry said. "Didn't recognize you, Gwen."
"Yeah, nice costumes." Mary Jane remarked.
"Thanks." Gwen smiled. "And who are you two meant to be: Herman and Lily from the Munsters?"
Peter chuckled slightly.
"Very funny." Mary Jane frowned slightly. "Although, you have a point actually."
"Yeah, you do." Harry said.
Peter and Gwen then looked around, seeing Sally was a Genie, Liz was a Pirate, Hobie was a gargoyle, and Mark was a robot. Among the other costumes included a few mad scientists, a zombie girl, two skeletons, and another gargoyle.
"Where's Anya?" Gwen wondered.
"Maybe this carnival's just for Junior's and Seniors?" Peter said.
"Oh, right." Gwen said. "I forgot, she's younger than us."
"Well, maybe she couldn't make it." Mary Jane reasoned.
"Don't be so sure." came a familiar voice.
All four of them turned around, as Anya came over to them all, dressed up as a witch.
"What do you think?" she asked, raising her hat up.
"Nice." Peter remarked. "So, which witch are you?"
"Yeah, are you Sabrina, Hermione, Bonnie or Willow?" Gwen asked.
"Um...neither, actually." Anya answered. "Just the first costume I found."
"Oh..." Harry said.
Mary Jane giggled slightly, as Liz and Randy both came over, getting their attention.
"Aw, mateys." Liz said. "Nice outfits."
"Thanks." Harry said.
"Is it true about that bet Flash told us about?" Gwen asked.
"Yep." Randy nodded. "We bet who could score the most touchdowns in a hour. I beat him by only one though, so it was close."
"Well, if you tied for it, what would you have done?" Peter asked. "Would you have done another hour, or both dressed up as Cheerleaders."
"The second option." Randy answered honestly.
Gwen giggled slightly, as Peter nodded understandingly.
"And to be honest, you kinda stole his costume, Peter." Randy said.
"You mean, he was gonna go as Spider-Man?" Peter asked.
"Yep." Randy answered.
Peter and Gwen turned to each other.
"Who would've guessed." Gwen said.
Meanwhile, the Hobgoblin was flying over the city, looking for some place to begin his fun.
"Where to start my fun, I wonder?" he thought, putting his hand on his chin.
He looked to his left, and just saw a few kids doing 'Trick or Treat' to his houses.
"Boring." he thought, scoffing.
He turned to his right, and saw nothing but Halloween directions all over.
"Bah. I should've read the papers first." he thought, annoyed. "They might have said something about an event."
He lowered his gilder down, as a wind picked up in his area, before a newspaper blew into his face.
"What?" he gasped.
He pulled it away from his face, then was about to throw it away, when he saw what was on the front page.
"'Halloween Carnival at Bleecker Street, 7pm to 11pm'." he read in his head.
He blew a raspberry as he threw the paper away, but then realized something.
"Wait a minute, a Carnival tonight?" he thought, rubbing his hands. "There's bound to be plenty of people there. And it's a prefect place to begin my fun."
He laughed as he turned his gilder around, then began to fly it towards Bleecker Street, and the carnival.
Back at the carnival, Peter, Gwen and Anya all stood near an apple bobbing booth, with Liz was doing, as Sally came over to them.
"Hi, Sally." Gwen smiled.
Sally huffed and folded her arms.
"You want to talk to Liz, right?" Peter assumed.
"Yeah, Parker." Sally huffed. "Alone actually."
Liz popped her head up from the bucket, with an apple in her mouth. She then turned around to the others, then took her apple out of her mouth.
"Hi, Sally." she said.
"Hi, Liz." Sally said.
"Um, we'll be going." Anya said.
She, Peter and Gwen all turned and walked off, leaving Liz and Sally alone.
"So, what is it?" Liz asked.
"Liz... Look, you know I don't like you hanging out with that geek Parker, right?" Sally asked.
"Yeah, I do. But do you understand why I have too?" Liz inquired. "His tutoring sessions have helped me you know. Even Flash has become nicer to him."
"Ugh." Sally said disgusted.
"Sally, just what is your problem with Peter?" Liz asked.
"Liz, he's the biggest nerd and geek at school." Sally snapped. "You're my best friend, and I don't want you turning into one!"
"Well, maybe if you'd give Peter and his friends a chance, you'd come to understand them like I have!" Liz snapped.
Everyone turned to them, as they both created a scene.
"Um, you seeing this Flash?" Randy whispered.
"Yep." Flash muttered. "Never seen Liz so mad before."
"To be honest, neither have I, and I'm her brother." Mark said.
"AGH!" Sally huffed angrily. "You'll learn the mistake you've made hanging out with Parker!"
She turned around and walked away angrily, as everyone stared at her, while Liz turned around and started to cry.
"I think a friendship might have been broken." Anya deduced.
"Yeah. Sad really, since they've been friends for years." Gwen admitted, feeling sorry for Liz. "But still, Sally has always been the meaner of the two."
Mark and Flash both walked over to Liz as she put her hands over her eyes, then Peter walked over as well.
"I'd be surprised if Liz and Sally ever speak to each other again after that." Mary Jane sighed.
"Me too." Harry said.
Liz kept crying, as her brother, boyfriend and tutor approached her.
"You okay, sis?" Mark asked, touching her shoulder.
"Yeah, I'll be fine." Liz sobbed, wiping her tears.
She turned around to the three of them.
"I feel like I've just lost my best friend, and I know it's not your fault Pete." Liz assured. "I mean, you didn't ask to tutor me."
"I know how you feel actually." Peter said, remembering his ruined friendship with Eddie.
"You do, Parker?" Flash asked, turning to him.
"Yeah." Peter sighed.
He began to tell them about how he supposedly ruined his and Eddie's long time friendship, leaving out the bits about him being Spider-Man, and Eddie becoming Venom.
As he did, Gwen and Anya both brought some soda each from one of the stands, then turned around to them.
"You did say Peter is Liz's tutor, right?" Anya asked, as Gwen had told her that last week.
"Yeah, he is." Gwen assured. "What? You think I'm jealous of him hanging out with her since I'm his girlfriend?"
"No." Anya assured. "It's just...he seems to be talking to her in a non-tutor way."
"Well, it might be because Peter knows what she's going through, Anya." Gwen said. "And besides, Liz has become more friendly with us since he started tutoring her."
"Oh, okay." Anya said.
Peter finished explaining to Liz, Mark and Flash about what happened to Eddie - being the argument they had in the park - which shocked them.
"Man, that's harsh, even for you." Flash admitted, sympathetically.
"Yeah." Mark agreed. "What happened to Eddie?"
"I don't know." Peter said honestly. "He just vanished afterwards. Haven't seen or heard from him since."
Liz approached him and hugged him tight, shocking him, Flash and Mark slightly, just as Gwen and Anya stared at them, before Liz pulled back.
"I guess we have a bit in common after all, Petey." Liz sighed.
"Guess we do." Peter said.
"Come on, sis." Mark said, touching Liz's shoulder. "Let's see if we can cheer you up."
They and Flash all turned and walked off, as Peter stared at them, before he turned and walked over to Gwen and Anya.
"What was that about?" Gwen asked.
"I was telling her about Eddie, since she and Sally are going through something similar." Peter assured.
"Oh, I see." Gwen understood, touching his shoulder. "You understand what she's going through."
"Yeah." Peter sighed.
"Um, excuse me, but who's Eddie?" Anya asked.
Peter and Gwen stared at her, just as Harry came over.
"Um, I'll tell her guys." he said. "You two go on."
Anya turned to him confused, as Peter and Gwen turned and walked off. Harry then began to tell Anya about Eddie, as Peter and Gwen walked over to a booth with jack-o-lanterns in, seeing they were being ranked.
"What's this?" Gwen asked.
"A contest, in a way, to see who can make the best jack-o-lantern." said a girl dressed like a scarecrow. "Winner gets a prize. Didn't you know?"
"No, we didn't." Peter said. "Well, who's won?"
"Not sure yet." the girl answered. "But I think that one's the winner."
She pointed at one that looked the best resemblance to a jack-o-lantern, for it was the most menacing.
"Wonder who made it then?" Gwen said.
"No one knows until it's announced." the girl said, before checking her watch, seeing it was now 8:35. "And that's not for another 25 minutes at least."
Peter turned around slightly, seeing Mary Jane being tailed by a light-browned haired boy around Mark's age, who was dressed as a Mummy.
"Gwen, look?" he muttered.
Gwen turned around to them, seeing the boy poke Mary Jane's shoulder.
"Huh?" she muttered, turning around.
The boy smiled widely, while she frowned.
"Nice costume, Red." he smirked.
"Thanks, but what do you want, Morris?" Mary Jane frowned, folding her arms.
"That's Bench?" Gwen whispered, remember what M.J. had told them in the bowling alley last week.
"Looks like it, and he's defiantly Mark's age." Peter noted.
Morris moved closer to Mary Jane, smirking flirtingly, which made her back away slightly.
"I think you know what I want?" Morris filtered.
He looked down her costume, seeing her breasts were slightly loose in the chest away.
"Bench, I told you before, I'm already taken!" Mary Jane snapped.
"Oh, yeah? By who, Red?" Morris asked. "I don't see your boyfriend here protecting you, if he exists."
"If he exists?" Mary Jane scowled. "What are you talking about?"
"I think you're lying just because you're in denial about how good looking I am." Morris joked.
Several people - including Harry, Anya, Flash, Mark, Liz, Gloria and Randy - all turned to them.
"You're acting like a jerk, Morris!" Mary Jane snapped, pushing him.
Morris growled at her, before Harry and Mark both approached him.
"Leave her alone!" Mark snapped. "Can't you see she's not interested, dude?"
"What do you care?" Morris snapped. "You're not her girlfriend."
"No, but I am!" Harry snapped, pushing him.
"You, Osborn?" Morris scoffed.
Now everyone was staring at him, including Sally, who stood by Gloria's stall, with Hobie being near Randy.
"Don't make me laugh?" Morris scoffed. "What could she see in you?"
Harry clutched his fists angrily, just as Peter moved towards an alley behind Morris.
"Bench, you're being annoying, you know that?" Mark inquired. "Can't you see you're causing a scene?"
Morris looked around, seeing everyone - expect Peter, who was hidden - was looking at him.
"Ha, what do I care?" he scoffed, as Peter noticed part of the wrappings on his costume was loose. "Now, leave me alone?!"
Peter shot a web from his hand, unnoticed by everyone but Gwen - who grinned - which then hit the bottom of Morris' costume, then he pulled on it slightly, loosening the bottom. Morris then turned around and began to walk off, when he stood on the loose strand Peter had pulled, causing him to trip.
"Oh, boy." Harry smirked.
"AGH!" Morris yelped.
He tripped over the strand and fell into the puddle, creating a splash, getting him wet all over, making everyone laugh.
"Nice dive, Bench!" Flash joked.
"Yeah, incredible." Randy added.
Everyone laughed as Morris pulled himself up, then he ran off angrily.
Peter walked over to Gwen, who smiled at him, as Anya walked over to Harry, Mark and Mary Jane.
"Nice move." Gwen whispered, as she'd seen his web.
"Thanks." Peter said. "You do approve through?"
"Well, I think Bench deserved that, after hitting on our friend when she's taken." Gwen whispered.
"Yeah." Peter said. "If he'd left her alone after she told him that, not so much."
They both laughed slightly, before their Spider-Senses tingled.
"Huh?" Gwen muttered.
Peter looked up, and saw the Hobgoblin flying his gilder towards the carnival.
"Oh, no." he muttered.
Everyone turned and looked up at the Hobgoblin as he got closer to them all, who then took out a pumpkin bomb from his bag.
"Why hello there, kiddies." he smirked. "Having a nice time are we?"
"Yes." Harry said. "But who are you."
"Oh...Let's just say Trick or Treat!" Hobgoblin roared, throwing his bomb at the carnival.
"Run!" Harry yelled.
Everyone turned and began to run and hide, before the bomb hit the ground and exploded, knocking three people - including Sally - off their feet.
"AHH!" they yelled, before hitting the ground.
Everyone else gasped as Hobgoblin flew his glider over them all.
"This is the best Halloween ever!" he declared. "Oh, I can't wait to spread my chaos around."
He laughed as everyone looked at him worriedly, as Sally and the other two injured people turned around. Liz and Gloria - who both hid behind a stand - turned to each other.
"This is becoming the worst Halloween for us." Liz gulped.
"Not how I wanted to spend the night." Gloria said.
Everyone kept looking at Hobgoblin, as Mary Jane looked around from behind a wall, seeing no sign of Peter or Gwen.
"Where's Peter and Gwen?" Harry questioned, who was near her, noticing it too.
"I have no idea." Mary Jane gulped. "I hope they're okay though."
Hobgoblin laughed as he kept his glider in the air, as everyone stared at him worriedly.
"This isn't good." Liz gulped, as Mark hugged her tight.
Everyone kept looking at Hobgoblin, when Flash spotted two shadowy figures swinging towards him.
"Look!" he shouted.
Everyone turned to the figures.
"What?" Hobgoblin exclaimed.
He turned and saw Spider-Man and Ghost Spider swinging towards him, before the former kicked him with both feet, making him wobble on his gilder.
"Whoa!" he yelped.
Both Spiders landed on the ground crouched down, then stared up at Hobgoblin.
"You again, wall-crawler?!" he exclaimed, staring at them. "I see your partner's with you this time, but it still won't save you!"
"You're gonna pay for ruining Halloween for everyone, Hobgoblin!" Ghost Spider warned, pointing at him.
"Oh, but this is my way of fun." Hobgoblin smirked. "And I'm not gonna let you two spoil it for me!"
He threw a pumpkin bomb at them both, but missed as they jumped and dived away as it hit and exploded on the ground. He then threw another at them, just as Ghost Spider jumped up, then shot a web at it, then while shooting another at a lamppost.
"Back at you, Goblin!" she yelled, swinging back slightly, before throwing the bomb right back at Hobgoblin.
"Whoa!" he yelped.
He lifted his gilder up as the bomb shot past him, missing it by inches, before it blew up, shooting his gilder upwards into the sky.
Ghost Spider landed on the ground, then she and Spider-Man all turned to the crowd.
"Is everyone alright?" she asked.
Everyone nodded, as Sally and the two other injured people got up, clutching themselves slightly.
"I don't think you've stopped him through!" Randy yelled, pointing up.
Both Spiders turned around, seeing Hobgoblin coming down towards them, laughing evilly.
"We need to lure him away like with Green Goblin." Ghost Spider whispered.
"I don't think he'll fall for that." Spider-Man argued quietly.
Hobgoblin took out a few Pumpkin Bombs from his pouch, making their Spider Senses tingle.
"Look out!" Spider-Man yelled.
They both back flipped away as the bombs hit the ground, exploding, but they luckily dodged the impact explosion. They both landed on the ground, then turned back to the crowd.
"Keep him busy for a minute." Spider-Man said "These people need to get outta here."
"Okay, but be quick?" Ghost Spider asked.
She turned and swung up towards Hobgoblin, as Spider-Man turned and ran towards the crowd.
"You all need to get outta here!" he said, stopping near them. "This guy won't think twice about wanting to kill you!"
"Hey, I wanna help, bro!" Flash argued.
Spider-Man sighed. "If you wanna help, get the others outta here!" he said. "I don't think the Hobgoblin's gonna chase us if we lure him away!"
"Got it." Flash said.
They both turned around, just as Hobgoblin threw Ghost Spider towards them, before Spider-Man caught her bridal style.
"Nice catch, Spidey." she joked, as he put her down.
"Thanks. Now come on." Spider-Man said, before turning to Flash. "GOO!"
"You heard him, move!" Flash yelled.
"RUN!" Harry yelled.
Everyone turned and ran off, expect Sally who limped along, before Liz and Gloria turned to her, as the Spiders charged at Hobgoblin.
"Sally, come on?!" Liz yelled.
Gloria huffed and ran towards Sally, then wrapped her arm around her.
"Come on." Gloria said.
Liz ran and wrapped Sally's other arm around her, then they both helped her along.
Hobgoblin dodged as Ghost Spider swung past and tried to kick him, then he took out three Razor Bats and threw them at Spider-Man as he swung towards him. Spider-Man dodged the first two, but the third hit and sliced his web in half.
"Oh, boy!" he gasped.
"Spidey!" Ghost Spider gasped, sticking to a wall.
Spider-Man shot a web from his left hand, which hit the bottom of Hobgoblin's gilder, then he swung forward on it.
"Where'd he go?" Hobgoblin gasped.
He turned around slightly, before Spider-Man kicked him in the back with both feet, knocking him off his gilder.
"AGHH!" he yelled, before hitting the ground. "OHH!"
He shook his head and looked up at both Spiders, as Spider-Man stood on his gilder. He then turned and saw the Carnival had been evacuated, making him growl as he turned back to the Spiders.
"Uh! You two ruined my fun!" Hobgoblin snarled.
"Fun?" Ghost Spider exclaimed. "You call this 'fun'? Throwing bombs at innocent people?!"
"You're crazy, Hobgoblin!" Spider-Man scowled. "What kind of psycho are you?!"
Hobgoblin smirked and reached in for his pouch. "The kind who likes to...cause chaos!" he roared.
He took out a gun of some kind from his pouch and fired at at Spider-Man, making him jump off the gilder. He then fired at Ghost Spider, who jumped off the wall and gilded down towards the ground. They both landed close together, but then Hobgoblin threw a Pumpkin bomb at them, which exploded near them, sending them flying away.
"AGGHHHH!" they yelled.
They both flipped backwards through the air, before hitting the ground on their chests.
"OH!" they moaned.
Hobgoblin jumped up and landed on his gilder, as they both got to their knees, Spider-Man touching the back of his head, while Ghost Spider clutched her chest.
"OH!" they moaned.
"Let's see where else my fun can lie then?" Hobgoblin smirked.
He turned his gilder around and flew it away, as both Spiders looked up at him.
"Get back here!" Ghost Spider yelled.
"You're not getting away this time!" Spider-Man yelled.
They both jumped up and began swinging after Hobgoblin, as he turned left down Lafayette Street.
"Ah! Don't you two ever quit?!" Hobgoblin asked.
"Funny, I was about to ask you the same question?" Spider-Man joked.
"Same here." Ghost Spider said. "Like, why don't you give up and turn yourself in?"
"Never!" Hobgoblin roared.
He shot his gilder down towards the street, then threw some Pumpkin bombs down it, damaging cars, the Lafayette Grand Café & Bakery building, and even a limo.
"Ha, ha, ha!" he laughed, flying off.
Both Spiders landed on ACME restaurant, then stared down at the destruction.
"AH!" they gasped.
They both turned to Hobgoblin, as he laughed evilly as he stopped and turned to them.
"It's me or them, wall-crawlers!" he laughed. "And don't think about splitting up, because you'll both be needed to stop that!"
He turned around and flew his gilder up into the sky, and then disappeared from sight.
"He's right. It's more important to save lives than catch crooks." Spider-Man said.
"Agreed." Ghost Spider said. "Let's do it."
They both jumped down towards the destruction left by the bombs.
Ghost Spider moved to the burning building, then landed on the wall of it, before she tried to pull open a window, but found it was stuck.
"Oh! No time for this!" she grunted.
She punched the window, smashing it open, then dived inside to start looking around for people.
"Everyone, get out!" she yelled.
Several people got up and ran towards her, as she jumped up onto the ceiling, then they began to pile out from the smashed window.
Spider-Man landed on the road, but saw the cars were empty.
"Phew. That's one less to worry about." he thought, relieved.
He turned to the Limo, seeing the driver getting out, then he quickly swung towards it, landing beside the driver.
"Anyone else in there?" Spider-Man asked.
"Yes, my Boss." the driver explained.
Spider-Man moved towards the back door, then pulled on the handle, but saw it was jammed. He then heaved on it, before pulling the door off the limo.
"There! Come on." he said.
He heard coughing from the limo, when the Kingpin himself came out of it.
"Hey, you're Mr. Fisk, the businessman." Spider-Man said, remembering when he first fought Electro.
"Yes." Kingpin coughed. "Yes, I am. Thank you, Spider-Man. Did you get the menace who did this?"
"I'm afraid not. The Hobgoblin got away." Spider-Man explained. "That's his name by the way."
"Hobgoblin?" Kingpin questioned. "Well, hopefully you'll catch him next time."
"Me and my partner plan too." Spider-Man assured.
He turned to the burning building, seeing people running out as Ghost Spider jumping out of the building, carrying a little girl in her arms.
"I got you. Hang on." she said.
She landed on the ground, then put the girl down near her Mother.
"Thank you, Ghost Spider." the Mother said. "Will she be alright?"
"Yeah." Ghost Spider assured. "She's only hurt her leg, that's all."
The Mother smiled happily, then Ghost Spider turned and ran towards her partner, as Kingpin moved to his driver.
"How'd it go?" she asked.
"Fine. The cars were empty." Spider-Man said. "All I had to do was get Mr. Fisk out of his limo."
"Mr. Fisk?" Ghost Spider questioned. "Oh, boy. I've heard about him. Come on, let's go."
Kingpin turned to them both and smiled, then turned back to his driver as they jumped up and swung away.
"Get me back to the skyscraper immediately." he ordered quietly.
"Yes, sir." the driver said.
Both Spiders swung forward down the street, then landed on a rooftop, but saw no sign of the Hobgoblin.
"Guess he was right." Ghost Spider sighed. "We couldn't catch him and save those people."
"He won't get away next time." Spider-Man promised. "They always say; third time's the charm."
"True." Ghost Spider said. "Come on."
They both jumped off the rooftop, then began swinging away.
A little later, Hobgoblin returned to his warehouse, and was now sitting behind a table, as his gilder lay on the floor.
"Those web-heads may have ruined my fun tonight. But they haven't seen the last of me." he smirked.
He laughed evilly as he put his pouch down on the table, vowing to continue to spread chaos through the city.
Later, at the Kingpin's Skyscraper, Kingpin now sat behind his desk, as Hammerhead and Alister stared at him, as he'd told them about what happened.
"I'm surprised you don't want us to send someone out after the Spiders, since you met them tonight?" Alister said.
"Normally, I would. But this Hobgoblin almost killed me earlier, and Spider-Man was the one who ended up saving me." Kingpin explained. "I think it's only fair to let the Web-Heads off tonight, with that menace out there."
"Fair enough, Boss." Hammerhead said. "And who knows, if this Hobgoblin's our enemy as well, we could use them to fight each other."
"Indeed." Kingpin smirked, cracking his fingers.
"But...doesn't Spider-Man and his partner know who you are?" Alister inquired.
"To be honest, no they don't." Kingpin smirked. "Not as the Kingpin anyway, since they haven't seen me with criminals."
Meanwhile, both Spiders stood on a rooftop, sighing slightly.
"I can't believe Hobgoblin got away." Ghost Spider sighed. "And the way he went on, I think he might be a lot worse than Green Goblin was."
Spider-Man wrapped his arm around her.
"I know what you mean." Spider-Man said. "And who knows what he might do. I mean, he nearly ruined Halloween for everyone."
"I'd hate to see him do something like this at Christmas." Ghost Spider sighed. "It would completely ruin the holiday for all the kids."
"I know, Ghost." Spider-Man sighed. "I know. We'll make sure to get him next time."
"I hope so." Ghost Spider sighed, resting her head on his shoulder.
"Still, at least he didn't kill anyone during his rampage." Spider-Man said.
"True. That's one good thing, unlike when Green Goblin first showed up." Ghost Spider admitted, remembering the old Oscorp board all being killed that day.
"I do wonder if anything went right tonight?" Spider-Man wondered.
"Well, at least everyone fell for our costumes." Ghost Spider joked.
"True." Spider-Man agreed. "No one suspected a thing. Everyone didn't know the real Spider-Man and Ghost Spider were at the carnival."
"Oh, man." Ghost Spider gasped, pulling away. "The others are probably wondering where we went?"
"Oh, yeah, you're right." Spider-Man said.
He took out his phone and checked the time, seeing it was almost 9:45.
"We'll have to tell them tomorrow. It's almost curfew, even if it is Halloween." he said, showing Gwen his phone.
"Okay." Ghost Spider said. "We better get going then. If the attack was broadcast, my Dad and your Aunt May might be worried."
Spider-Man nodded, then they both lifted their masks up to their noses. They kissed each other briefly as Spider-Man put his phone away, then pulled apart.
"See you tomorrow then." Ghost Spier said, as they lowered their masks.
"Yeah, see you." Spider-Man said.
They both jumped off the roof, and quickly began swinging towards their respectful homes.
The next day at school, Peter and Gwen stood by their lockers.
"How'd you Aunt May take it?" Gwen asked quietly.
"She was worried, but glad I was safe." Peter answered. "You?"
"Same." Gwen whispered. "Got home just in time. My Dad had to leave to trend to the mess Hobgoblin had left."
They both closed their lockers and turned around, seeing Sally walking down the hallway with a walking stick.
"Guess she really hurt herself." Gwen deduced.
"She did." Liz said, approaching her. "She cracked her ankle. Doctor said she has to use that for a few weeks before she can walk again."
"You two speaking again, I take it?" Peter inquired.
"Well, sort of." Liz answered, nervously. "She did thank me for helping her during the attack. But other than that, no so far."
"Sorry, Liz." Peter said. "It's not our fault the two of us have to spend time together."
"I know." Liz said. "Well, see you."
She walked down the hallway as the bell rang.
"Time for class." Peter said.
Gwen nodded, then they both walked down the hallway towards History class, as they had that first thing today.
A/N: I haven't told you Hobgoblin's civilian identity yet, 'cause I wanna surprise you all later. His suit design is similar to most of his counterparts - since he's barely had a change in design - the only difference is the gilder, which is the same as Norman's.
