Hello everybody! Sorry for such a cliffhanger that I left you on last week. And thanks for such nice comments, they mean a lot to me.
By the way, once again I apologize if I make one (or many medical mistakes). Enjoy the chapter!
"Sheldon, the babies…" she said without taking her gaze from the blood that ran between her legs "What's wrong with our children?"
"I'll go find the doctor."
"Don't go," whispered Amy holding his hand tightly. She had tried to be strong and couldn't take it anymore. She was terrified that the blood between her legs meant that… No, she wasn't going to think about that. Her tears began to run down her cheeks "Don't leave me alone."
"I won't let you," Sheldon answered firmly. He kissed his hair and turned to the door "Leonard Where the hell is the doctor?" He screamed as loud as he could in the hope that his friend or anyone would come to help them.
A couple of seconds the door was thrown open and Dr. Mont ran in followed by several nurses.
"Mr. Cooper has to get out of here" said the doctor.
"No," Sheldon answered without letting go of her wife's hand. "I promised her that he would not leave her alone and...
"Come on, buddy." Leonard appeared behind him and grabbed him by the elbow. "They will take care of Amy."
"No," he repeated. "I'm not going to leave her alone."
The vital signs monitor that the nurses had just connected to Amy started beeping.
"She fainted," one of the nurses informed.
Sheldon's gaze fell to his wife, who lay pale and unconscious on the bed.
"Get him out of here," Dr. Mont yelled to Leonard. Sheldon had been shocked to see his wife faint that he did not realize when he was taken out of the room until his friend pushed him against a wall to give space to a doctor who was moving a patient in Wheelchair.
"I have to get back to Amy," he rushed against the door, but before he could get there, Leonard went through and pushed him with both hands.
"Sheldon, I understand that you want to be with Amy, but no matter how intelligent you are, the only thing you would do when you return would be to hinder the work of the doctors. "
"You don't understand!" Sheldon shouted. "Your wife and your baby are at home safe and sound." While my wife and children may be debating between life and death because of me, and I am here doing nothing!
Leonard pulled him closer to hug him. His friend immediately burst into tears against his shoulder. "The best thing you can do right now is to do nothing," he commented, patting him on the back. Although it may be time for you to talk to Mary and Amy's parents to tell them what's going on.
"Do you really think that's a good idea?" Sheldon pulled away from Leonard to wipe away his tears.
"Yes, if... something happens to the babies" Leonard began to say something doubtful "Amy is going to need the support of all the people who love her. Also they are the grandparents; they deserve to know. "
"You're right," Sheldon admitted after thinking about it for a few seconds. "I'm going to… talk to my mother right now. But I'll wait to know how Amy is to talk to her parents" he had just taken his phone out of the back pocket of his pants when the door to the room where Amy was opened "How is my wife?" He asked the second he saw the doctor.
"We are still doing several studies to find out what it caused the bleeding, but she has lost a lot of blood so she will need a transfusion... "
"I can donate blood for my wife" he interrupted the doctor "We are the same blood type."
"Very good" Dr. Mont nodded. "In a moment a nurse will take you to the lab so you can donate. When I know more about the status of your wife I will let give you information" he turned and went back to the room.
"I'll be in the waiting room for anything you need," Leonard commented after a nurse told Sheldon to follow her.
He followed the woman into the lab where she instructed him to sit in a chair and roll up his shirt. Before she drew his blood, the nurse began asking his various questions. When it came to the question of whether he had consumed alcohol in the last few hours, Sheldon sighed gratefully that he had rejected the alcoholic beverages that Max had offered him.
"I'm going to start drawing blood," the woman told him. Sheldon looked away to the opposite side of the lab. All his life he had been afraid of many things, including hospitals and needles, but he would stay in that place and have all the blood drawn from his body if that would assure him that Amy and the babies would be fine. "That's all, " she said, withdrawing the needle from his arm.
"Already? " Asked seeing that she had only extracted a bag with his blood "Amy has lost a lot of blood, you need to extract more of my blood."
"I can only extract 10% of the blood from you." she carefully lift the bag. "And I already have."
"I want to donate more ... "
"Mr. Cooper I can't do it, it would be detrimental to your health. "
"I don't mind. My wife and my children need it more than I do" he looked expectantly at the nurse, but she made no move to take another needle to draw blood "Please… I want to help."
The woman took off her gloves, placed them in the garbage container and turned to look Sheldon in the eye "If I draw more blood from you, you will weaken to the point of fainting and now it will be you who will need more blood, blood that we can give it to your wife in case she need it. "she squeezed his arm briefly." Go to the waiting room and as soon as we know something, I'll let you know. "
Sheldon left the lab feeling like he could have done more, but the nurse was right. He knew the consequences of donating more blood than allowed. Besides, the best thing he could do at that moment was to stay strong so that he could support his wife.
He took out the cell phone and dial the number of his mother. It rang a couple of times before she answered.
"Shelly, I'm surprised you call me so early" at the moment of hearing his mother's voice, he felt his eyes flood with tears again "Is something wrong? "
"I ... I have to tell you something" Sheldon began to tell Mary about the accident, omitting the part where he accused her of cheating on him and her pregnancy. He felt like a coward for hiding it, but he knew his mother perfectly and knew that she would insist on coming, so he would tell her in person. He told her how Amy was supposed to be fine and they had discharged her, when suddenly he began to bleed "And I haven't heard from her since then," he said between sobs. "I'm very scared.
"Oh my poor baby! Amy is a strong woman and I'm sure she'll be fine, " she added. " I'll take the first flight I can find. "
"Thanks mom, it's just that I feel helpless to be out here without being able to do anything."
"Shelly, I know what you think about religion and praying but… I was honest when I told you that I thought… because of your way of being, it would be difficult for you to find someone with whom to share your life. Even so, for many years I prayed to God for you to find a good woman and when I met Amy I knew that she was the woman with whom you would spend the rest of your life" Sheldon sobbed even louder when he heard that "The Lord heard me when I asked for you to find a good woman and I'm sure he will listen to you too."
Leonard was in the waiting room talking on the phone with Howard who had called him to ask if he had already taken Amy to his house, after commenting on what happened Howard said that after leaving work he would go to the hospital.
"Here comes Sheldon," Leonard commented. "We'll talk later." he hung up the call and walked over to his friend. "It took you longer than I thought. Everything okay?"
"Yes, I… I talked to my mother. She said that she would come and… she advises me to pray for Amy" Sheldon paused "Do you want to accompany me to the hospital chapel?"
"Sure, buddy." Leonard put a hand on his shoulder. He was surprised for a moment that his friend, who had never believed in any kind of God, was willing to pray. But then he remembered how much Sheldon loves Amy and was completely sure that he would do anything for her.
When they got to the hospital chapel, Leonard prayed for Amy's health and for the babies and he also prayed that she could forgive Sheldon. He knew that the things he had been told her caused deep pain in Amy, but his friend was truly sorry and he deserved a chance to fix everything.
"Dr. Fowler suffered a partial placental abruption," Dr. Mont said a couple of hours after Amy started bleeding.
"The babies…"
"At the moment both babies are fine," confirmed the doctor. Sheldon had to sit down again. He felt that his heart could leap out of his chest at any moment, even though he knew it was impossible "Your wife may have to almost all of her pregnancy in complete bed rest. Although her placental abruption was minimal, she is pregnant with twins, which complicates everything.
"But ... she and the babies will be fine right?" Sheldon asked fearfully.
"As long as Dr. Fowler maintains the bed rest and does not make efforts, everything will be fine" he added "There is a possibility that babies are born premature" Sheldon lost the little color in his face that he had just recovered "But we must be monitoring his wife every two weeks as her pregnancy progresses to make sure everything is going well."
"Can I see her? "
"Sure, but after I gave her the news she began to fall asleep. It is normal after everything that happened and I recommend that you let her sleep. "
"Okay doctor. Thank you. "
"That's great!" Leonard exclaimed smiling after the doctor left them. "Amy and your children are fine."
"Yes… " Sheldon smiled for the first time that day "They will be fine. Tomorrow I'm going to talk to President Siebert and tell him what's going on. I'm taking a year off so I can be with Amy and take proper care of her. "
Sheldon walked into the hospital room where his wife was, trying to make as little noise as possible. He approached her bed and wanted to kiss her forehead and straighten the strands of hair that fell on her face, but he knew that if he did that, he would possibly wake her up and it was best for her to rest.
He pulled one of the chairs that was by the window and moved it to the side of the bed. He watched Amy while she slept for a few minutes, until exhaustion from everything that had happened that day overcame him and he fell asleep too.
He woke up to hear someone's voice calling his name. He slowly opened his eyes and when he saw his wife watching him, he remembered everything and immediately stood up to approach her side.
"Amy, how are you feeling?" he asked "Do you need something?"
"I'm ... fine," she whispered. "Could you get me some water?"
"Sure" Sheldon ran out of the room and came back a couple of minutes later "Here you have" he gave her a glass of water "Do you want something else?"
"What are you doing here, Sheldon?" She asked after taking a sip of the drink. "I told you ... "
Sheldon stiffened when he heard that. "You didn't want to see me again, I know." he looked into her eyes.
"Well, after I told you that I didn't want to see you again, you completely disappeared " she frowned "And nobody knew anything about you, so…" she shrugged pretending that she didn't care.
"I was ... I was very confused by everything I had told you. I know I hurt you, but I want to prove to you that I am sorry for the things I said" he moved closer to the bed "When you get out of here let me take care of you and our children.
"No, Sheldon" Amy looked down to the glass of water that she had in her hands "I am not going back with you. "
"I'm sorry, " he told her, as plainly as he could, as honestly as he could, as truthfully as he could. "I never… it was wrong of me to say that. Not only wrong of me, it was wrong period. I never should have said it."
She took a long drink of the water, rubbing the swell of her stomach as she did. "But you did."
"I did, " he agreed. "I could come up with a hundred excuses; I was angry, I was upset, I was sick of the idea of you looking at that man the way you use to look at me before we became physical. " Amy cast her eyes to the floor. "But then I found out that it wasn't you who I saw with that man, " Sheldon continued as if he hadn't noticed. "It doesn't change the fact that I had no right to hurt you and that I was wrong. I should have never say all those horrible things. "
Amy scoffed at his proclamation and it was like a dagger to her heart. She really felt hurt when he accused her of having a lover...
"It's true. " He said the words sharply, bluntly, almost angrily. He spoke so sternly that when she turned to him, she was almost taken aback "I would give anything to turn back time and avoid accusing you of being unfaithful. I wish I was the one in that bed and that you and our children were completely healthy. It's what I want the most in the world, but we know it's impossible to go back in time, so ... I can only apologize. "
Sheldon walked over to the bed, kneeling in front of his wide eyed wife and turning his gaze to her bruised arm and then to her face. "I would carve out my heart and offer it to the any god if he would make it so I never said those words because they aren't true, not one of them."
He saw her big green eyes grow wet and watched as she blinked her tears away just as quick as they came. "Sheldon, you… you don't understand how deep your words cut. "
"I do. "
"You don't though. I can handle insults, I can handle cruelty, I can handle remarks and stares from any person alive. None of it touches me. " She looked into his eyes. "Except when it's you. Even when we first met, you provoked me happiness and a lot of feelings that I didn't knew how to classify for a long time, quicker than anyone I've ever met, " He thought he saw a shadow of a grin at the memory. "You're the first man to make me happy, truly, unconditionally happy and when I'm with you it feels like I could rival the beauty of the any woman. You bring out the most of every one of my emotions, nothing about what you make me feel is a half-way mark. I feel things deeper when I'm with you. "
Sheldon smiled up at her. He lifted a hand to take hers but he pulled back before she could notice it, still unsure of how she would feel with his touch. "I really make you feel all that? "
"You do. " Her voice was trembling. "But that also means that I feel pain deeper when I'm with you, I feel sadness deeper, I feel hurt deeper… You may have been the first man to make me smile but you're the first man to make me fall to my knees and weep until I had no more tears left to spend. What you said that to me, I… Sheldon, I don't know how I'm going to be able to forgive you for that. "
The words themselves didn't hurt him. Not as much as he thought it would. He had prepared himself for that, for her inability to accept his apology. But the fact she sounded upset, that she was genuinely sorry she wasn't able to exonerate him and gift him forgiveness…
Sheldon took a deep breath, gazing up at her. The mid-morning light was shining through her window and her brown hair looked a halo of pale gold.
"I know you can't forgive me right now, " he told her. "And I know you have a lot more things on your mind that take precedence over than listening to my apologies, but I swear to you, Amy. I will spend every day making up the pain I caused you. Please agree to come back to live with me so that I can take care of you and our children."
"Sheldon, everything you said is very nice and I think you will try to making up the pain you caused me, but I already told you that I don't know how long it will take me to forgive you ... or if I can ever do it.
"I don't mind. I will wait as long as necessary. "
"That's what you say now, but in the end you'll get tired and ... I don't want us to end up hating each other."
"I could never hate you, Amy" Sheldon dared to take her by the hand and was glad when he saw that she did not reject his touch "I love you and I will always love you. "
"I love you too, but… the apartment is very small. And there is only one room" Amy let go of his hand "If I were to live with you again, I will not share the same bed with you."
Sheldon wanted to protest when he heard that, but he had to learn to respect Amy's decisions and if that was what she wanted, he was going to accept it. As much as it hurt him not knowing how many nights he would spend without her in his arms.
"Okay, if that's what you want. We can sleep in separate rooms."
"Sheldon, you won't be able to sleep on the couch... "
"I won't sleep on the couch. Each one will have their room."
"What are you talking about?" Asked Amy.
"After the nurses took me out of the room, I left the hospital and ... I decided to do something that you had wanted for a long time" he took out his phone and showed her a photograph.
"It's ... the house I mentioned that I had seen for sale a few weeks ago," she said in a whisper. A part of her brain could not correctly process what her husband was trying to say "What did you do? "
"Yes, and you couldn't stop talk about how much you had loved it and that it was the kind of house you had dreamed of raising your children in." He reached into the front pocket of her pants to get a key.
"Sheldon ... "
"It's our new home. "
