Chapter 38: Enter the Garcia Quadruplets
Up on the surface, 4 beautiful girls sat in their house packing their bags. These girls are known as the Garcia Quadruplets. Aerona, the eldest. Fareeda, the second. Kala, the third. And Paulina, the youngest. "Well, girls, today's the day we leave for the world below." Aerona said. "Are you sure you know the way to the entrance, sis?" Fareeda asked as she put a bandoleer around her skirt. "I'm sure. And remember, no one else up here can know about where we're going." Aerona instructed. "Right. Our world must never mix with that of Slugterra." Kala said, remembering the rule. "Alright. Let's go through our supply list. Everybody got their blasters?" Aerona asked, pulling out a pink and white model of Dr. Blakk's blaster. Fareeda drew a blue and green blaster of Frost's model. Kala held up a red and orange blaster of Mr. Saturday's model. And Paulina pulled out a violet and grey blaster of CC's model. "Slugs?" 4 little gold slugs hopped onto the girls' shoulders. The other slugs chittered from the barrels on their bandoleers. "Alright. Then take one last look at our house. For this will be the last time we see it until we can find our way back up." Aerona said. The 3 girls all put their hands in. Aerona then put her hand on top. "We honor the name of our ancestors. The name of Garcia. Great hero of Slugterra and great ally of the name Shane. We will help our allies and friends protect the caverns and keep the peace. Let those who bear darkness in their hearts beware the names of Shane and Garcia. Amen." The 4 recited. Their hands over a picture of their father. "This is for you, father." Paulina said, shedding a single tear.
The girls exited the house and made towards entrance to the sewers, being careful not to be spotted. Once they made it to the sewer entrance, they jumped down the manhole one-by-one. "Okay, which way is the Drop?" Kala asked. "This way. I'm sure of it." Aerona said, pointing a flashlight in the right direction. The girls made their way towards the entrance to the Drop, seeing that it was open and recently used. "The Drop. And it's been used." Aerona said. "That means the new Shane must already be down there." Fareeda said. "But then how are we gonna get down there?" Paulina asked. "Simple, we're gonna jump." Aerona said. She walked up to the edge of the entrance. "Aerona, are you sure about this?" Paulina asked. Aerona looked back at her sisters. "I've never been surer about anything in my life." She said. She turned back and leapt down the Drop. Fareeda stepped forth and looked back at her 2 sisters. "See you on the other side, girls." She said, before following Aerona down the Drop. Kala put her hand on Paulina's shoulder as she shook with a bit of fear. "We're gonna be okay." Kala said. Then she walked to the Drop and jumped down to follow. Paulina walked to the drop and looked down into the pitch blackness. She took a deep breath and dropped down.

At the hideout, Eli sat on the couch as he looked through the book Trixie found in the Molemound Repository. 'From a magic as old as the earths were born the spirits of the 12 elements. Our world enjoyed a time of harmony. The spirits keeping our beautiful world in balance.' Eli turned the page. It showed a faded picture of 12 Stonehenge. Each of them held a different symbol. Eli looked at the 3rd page. It had 12 six-pointed stars as each star held different elemental symbols. Fire, Water, Wind, Earth, Ice, Lightning, Light, Shadow, Nature, Metal, Toxic and Psychic. "What do these symbols mean?" Eli asked himself.
"Hey, Eli." Harley said, walking down the stairs. "Oh, hey, bro." Eli said. "You reading that book Trixie found in Molemound?" Harley said. "Yep. It's actually a really good read." Eli said. Harley sat down next to Eli as he continued reading.
He turned to the 4th page. 'Among the spirits, the Fire Spirit is the most majestic of them all. Its mane and tail were ablaze with fire. Its body is mostly made of pitch-black ashes, thus, it can turn itself into ashes. It is the fastest running spirit and nobody can catch up to it. It can set an entire cavern ablaze when running through it. The Fire Spirit is mysterious and aggressive towards mortals. Beware of this fiery spirit as it will burn living beings into ashes.' The brothers looked at the 5th page. It showed a picture of the Fire Spirit in the form of a horse. A title was written below the picture. 'The Fire Horse.' Eli turned to the 6th page. It showed another picture of the Fire Spirit, but with someone riding on it. "Who's riding that thing?" Harley asked. "I have no idea." Eli said.
Just then, an alarm sounded. "Eli! Got a distress call from Bullseye Cavern! Twist and Deagan are attacking!" Kord called. "Let's roll!" Eli said, closing the book and setting it down.
As the gang rode off on their mechas, the Garcia sisters finally reached the bottom of the Drop. Aerona loaded a barrel and slung a Lariat, latching onto the cave ceiling and her blaster with Elasticrab. Fareeda, Kala and Paulina grabbed onto their sister as they descended to the ground. The slug popped back into his Protoform and landed back in Aerona's hand. "Good work, Goopy. And thanks." Aerona said. The slug chittered with a blush. "So, where are the Shanes anyway?" Kala said. "Judging from the mecha beast tracks in the ground, I'd say they're that way." Fareeda said, examining the tracks she found. "Do we follow them?" Paulina asked. "We do." Aerona said.
The gang rode into Bullseye Cavern. There, Blakk's goons were rounding up Fandangos. "Alright, let those Fandangos go right now!" Eli said, taking aim at the goons. "Or what, Shane?" Twist's voice asked. The goons moved aside as Blakk's 2 top agents came into view. Lash and Dana glared at their traitorous siblings. "One chance to surrender, Shane. You know that we are not so merciful when refused." Deagan said. "Yeah, we know. But you already know the answer." Eli said. "Then so be it." Twist said. "GET THEM!" Deagan shouted. The goons started slinging their loaded ghouls.
"Spread out!" Eli called. The gang all spread throughout the cavern, avoiding getting hit by the ghouls. 3 goons fired a Hop Jack, a Thrasher and a Grimmstone. Kord slung Flycatcher, catching the ghouls in his web. Vance slung his new Tazerling, Storm, shocking a goon unconscious with Tazerbolt. Just then, a Briardrill came right for his head. Before he could retaliate, a Polero snagged the ghoul with Wrapattak. Vance looked and saw Pronto with his blaster smoking. "You can thank Pronto later." Pronto boasted. Vance just shook his head, loaded another slug and headed back into the fight.
Twist slung an Amperling at Trixie and Eliza. Both girls ducked out of the way. Trixie slung Pounder, but Twist disappeared, revealing Loki. "It's Loki!" Trixie said. "How many times is Twist going to do the same trick?" Eliza asked. "As much as I please." Twist said, appearing behind the girls. Trixie and Eliza took aim, but then 5 more Twists appeared, surrounding them. "Any ideas?" Trixie asked. "Just one." Eliza said, holding up a barrel. It contained her new Neotox, Wilton. Trixie knew what Eliza was planning and nodded. "Take a breath." Eliza said as she loaded Wilton's barrel. Trixie took a deep breath as Eliza slung Wilton in the air. Twist gasped as Wilton came down, spraying Toxicloud on his copies. He jumped away before the cloud could hit him. "Gotcha." Trixie said, slinging Roller and knocking Twist against the wall. Twist groaned before becoming unconscious.
Eli, Harley, Shimei and Dana slung their slugs against several goons. One of the goons fired a Greneater. Harley ducked to dodge the incoming ghoul and slung Quill, firing Chortlesnort from his body. The goons ducked for cover, but the one who slung the Greneater got his rump impaled by the quills, making him yelp in pain. "Ooh! Guess he'll have to eat all his meals standing up." Dana joked. "Good one, Dana!" Eli laughed. "Laugh while you can, Shane. You and your friends are outmatched." Deagan said, stepping forth. "Keep dreaming, Deagan. Apparently there much bigger than your brain." Harley said. "Harley's right. You don't have a powerful slug like Burpy to beat us with." Eli said, holding up a barrel. Burpy chittered with pride as he hopped into the barrel. "Oh, don't I?" Deagan asked, holding up the Darkfurnus Dr. Blakk gave him. The gang gasped at the sight of this. "A Darkfurnus?!" Eli asked in shock. Burpy chittered in shock and sadness.
"Where did you get that?!" Eli asked. "Blakk gave it to me after our last duel at Chillbore Cavern." Deagan said. "But how is that possible? Burpy's supposed to be the only one of his kind in Slugterra." Shimei said with confusion. "Doesn't matter. What matters is that this Darkfurnus is mine. And now I can use it to pay you back for my face scars, Shane." Deagan said, loading the Darkfurnus in his blaster. "Not gonna happen, Deagan!" Eli said, loading Burpy's barrel into his blaster. As Eli and Deagan took aim at each other, Burpy just whimpered at the sight of the Darkfurnus, like he knew that poor slug. Not wanting to fight the ghoul, Burpy pushed his barrel out and slipped out. "Burpy! Where do you think you're going?" Eli asked, grabbing his best slug. Burpy started chittering. Eli tried to understand, but he couldn't get a word. "Sorry, pal. I just don't understand. Burpy sighed sadly.
"If you're finished talking to your Infurnus, it's time to burn, Shane." Deagan said, slinging the Darkfurnus. "Look out!" Kord shouted as the ghoul transformed. The gang ran for cover as the ghoul started firing Darkpyres at them. Pronto hopped behind a rock as the ghoul flew by. "Whew! That was a close one." He sighed. But then something started smoking. "Mmm. Something's cooking." He said, smelling the smoke. But then he suddenly realized that his rump was on fire. "IT'S ME!" He screamed, scurrying off with his burning rump. By then, the Garcias caught up to them. Pronto was so busy screaming in pain, he didn't notice them. "Talk about getting a hot seat." Fareeda said.
"We gotta contain that Darkfurnus!" Mario said, loading a barrel and taking aim. Burpy hopped out of Eli's hand. "Burpy! Stop!" Eli called. Burpy hopped on Mario's blaster and chittered at him to stop. "Burpy, I can't see!" Mario said. He blindly slung Ricochet. The Speedstinger bounced off the cavern walls, the ground and some of the goons, almost hitting some of the gang in the process. The Darkfurnus flew back to Deagan and popped back into his hand. "Wow. I am so glad I didn't take that Infurnus." Deagan said as he reloaded the Darkfurnus.
Eli snatched Burpy. "Burpy, what's going on with you?!" Eli asked. Burpy chittered the same thing he chittered before. "Okay, I think Burpy ate something funny this morning, because he's suddenly out of his mind." Kord said. "Yeah, what's wrong on with him?" Trixie asked. "I don't know. I've never seen him act like this before." Eli said. Burpy just sighed sadly. Eli stared at his best slug friend for a while, then he looked back at Deagan readying his Darkfurnus for slinging. He started putting the pieces together. "You know that Darkfurnus, don't you?" He asked. Burpy nodded sadly. "That's why he won't fight. He doesn't want to hurt his old friend." Harley said. "Well, too bad! Cause he's gonna hurt you!" Deagan said, ready to sling.
The Garcia sisters saw what was about to happen. "Should we intervene now?" Kala asked. "I think we should." Fareeda said. "What will we do, Aerona?" Paulina asked. Aerona's eyes squinted into a glare. "Ready your blasters." She said. Fareeda, Kala and Paulina readied their blasters. "Fareeda, you start the party." Aerona said. "With pleasure." Fareeda said, holding up a barrel containing a Negashade.
Twist, Deagan and the goons took aim at the gang. "Goodbye, Shanes." Deagan said. Just then, a Negashade was slung out of nowhere, blinding the bad guys with Shadowblak. "Hey! Who did that?!" Twist asked. The gang was confused. All eyes turned on Eli. "That was not Yang." He said. "Then, whose Negashade was that. "Look!" Pronto called, pointing at the cloud. Everyone turned to see. The Garcia Quadruplets emerged from the cloud, moving with such beauty and charm. The males' jaws dropped at the sight. "Who are they?" Vance asked. "Never seen them before." Kord said. "I should say not." Trixie said.
The Garcias stepped in the middle between the gang and the bad guys. "Rest a bit, Shanes. We'll take it from here." Aerona said with a wink. That caused Pronto to faint. "And just who do you girls think you are?!" Twist asked. The sisters all smirked at each other. "We are the Garcia Quadruplets. I am Aerona, and these are my sisters Fareeda, Kala and Paulina." Aerona introduced. "Fair names for fair ladies." Twist said. Deagan then smacked him on the side of the head. "Focus, idiot!" He snapped. "I am focused!" Twist snapped back. "Just blast them already!" Deagan shouted.
The goons fired their ghouls. The girls readied their blasters and began to fight back. Aerona fired an Armashelt, bashing into a few ghouls. Fareeda slung an AquaBeek, blasting an Attacknet back into its Protoform. Kala slung a Rammstone, knocking down a Grimmstone. Paulina slung a Thresher, slicing through a Hop Jack. Another goon fired a Briardrill, but Aerona slung a Flaringo, blasting it with Blastburst. Paulina slung a Vinedrill, hitting a couple goons with Itchypants, causing them start scratching. Kala slung a Phosphoro, blinding a guard with Flashbang. Fareeda followed with a Tazerling, shocking the guard with Tazerbolt. "Whoa! They're pretty good." Harley said, impressed with the girls' skills. "No kidding." Dana said.
"So, you got some skills. Big deal. You can't possibly get the best of me." Twist said, loading Loki into his blaster. Kala scoffed in amusement. "You think you can beat me with a Thugglet slug?" She asked. "Oh, I know I can." Twist said, slinging Loki and creating several illusion copies of himself. "Two can play that game." Kala said, loading a barrel in her blaster. Twist noticed it was a Thugglet. "You have a Thugglet too?!" He asked in shock. "And know how to use her too." Kala said, slinging her slug. The slug transformed and created an illusion with Spectackled. Twist covered his eyes from the flash. But when he opened them back up, a giant Ice Ogre was towering over him. The beast roared, causing Twist to step cautiously backwards and his copies to disappear. Just then, Twist felt a tap on his shoulder. He turned to see. Kala punched him in the eye, sending him to the ground.
As the illusion disappeared, Kala walked up and put a foot on Twist's chest, aiming her blaster at his head. Twist groaned, holding his eye. "Why are you doing this?" Kala asked. "What're you talking about?" Twist asked. "Why are you working with such an evil man like Dr. Blakk?" Kala asked. "Because his side is the winning side!" Twist said. "You're crazy. You should be fighting with the Shanes. Not against them." Kala said. "Never! Not after what their father did to mine!" Twist said. "Your words are meaningless, Twist. Just like your loyalties." Kala said. Twist felt something come over him as she spoke. 'What is this feeling? Guilt? Haven't felt that since…' He thought.
Deagan slung a couple of Hop Jacks at Aerona, Fareeda and Paulina. Aerona slung a Frostcrawler at the ground, creating an ice wall, blocking the ghouls. Deagan was now getting frustrated. "I will not be bested by girls!" He snarled. Aerona and Fareeda were about to reload their blasters, but Paulina held her arm out. "I'll take this one." She said. "You sure, Pauli?" Fareeda asked. "I'm sure. He has something I want." Paulina said before stepping forth. Fareeda ducked as another ghoul zipped past her head. "Oh, no you didn't." She said, slinging a Slicksilver, pounding the goon who slung the ghoul with Metalhead.
Paulina and Deagan took their stances. "You think you can take me on?" Deagan asked. "You have no idea what I'm capable of." Paulina said. "Well then, let's see what you got." Deagan said, taking aim. Paulina loaded a barrel and took aim. Deagan slung his Darkfurnus. Paulina slung a Firenzar. They blew their attacks and collided, creating an explosion. Deagan was blown back by the force.
The gang looked on with impression. "These girls are good." Lash said. Eli continued to stare with an unexplained feeling about the Garcias. "Is there something wrong, Eli?" Trixie asked. "Strange. But it feels like I know these girls from somewhere." Eli said. "Actually, I had the same feeling." Harley said. "Me too." Eliza said. "But who are they? And where did they come from?" Eli asked. "Uh, can we save the questions for later? Cause we're about to be outnumbered!" Kord called, pointing out to the entrance. Nacho, Locke, Load, Jon Bull and more goons were riding in on mecha beasts. "Not to worry. We'll slow them down." Fareeda said. She slung an Xmitter, disabling the mecha beasts. When the goons were about to dismount, Paulina slung a Sand Angler, trapping them with Sandcrete. "Girls, it's time for the Bright Gold Quartet Cover!" Aerona called. Fareeda, Kala and Paulina regrouped with their older sister and loaded their blasters. All 4 fired their 4 gold slugs from earlier at once. The slugs transformed and gave off a big blinding light more brighter than a Phosphoro's Flashbang. "What kind of slugs are those?" Eli asked, shielding his eyes. "Midas slugs!" Kord said. "I've heard of those! Never seen one until now!" Vance said. "We gotta go! Their light won't last long!" Aerona said. The gang hopped on their mechas and rode away.
When the light cleared, Blakk's goons saw that the gang and the girls were gone. "What happened?!" Nacho asked. "We had the Shane Gang on the ropes! But then those 4 girls showed up!" Twist said. "You were beaten? By a girl?" Nacho asked in amusement, noting the blackness forming on Twist's eye while the others snickered at this. Twist just glared at them while blushing. "Where is it? No, no, no! It's gotta be here!" Deagan said, digging about. "What're you doing?!" Nacho asked. "My Darkfurnus! It's gone!" Deagan snapped as he continued to look. But then he realized. "That one girl I was dueling must've taken it! NOOOOOOOOOOOO!" He screamed.
The gang and the girls arrived safely back at the hideout. They sat around the table. "So, thanks a lot for helping us back there." Eli said. "No problem. It's what counts with being heroes." Aerona said. "So, who are you girls anyway?" Kord asked. "They're of the Garcia family." Eliza revealed. The gang looked at her in shock. "How did you know that, Mom?" Harley asked. "Simple. The Garcia family has been good friends of our family for years." Eliza said. "Your mom's right. The Shanes aren't the only people from the surface who've been protecting Slugterra." Fareeda said. "Our families have had an alliance formed for generations." Kala said.
The gang listened closely as the girls told the whole story. "It all started 300 years ago. Our family's been helping your family generation after generation. And we've always had their backs because we were loyal friends and trusted allies. When our alliance was formed, we became closer friends than ever." Aerona said. "Our family is also famous due to our extreme beauty and as billionaires due to owning Midas slugs." Fareeda said as her Midas hopped on her shoulder. "Right. Our family has helped your family pay off your high bills. We didn't want a refund when your family wanted to return the favor." Paulina said. "Our family's also professional detectives. We can solve mysteries with our intelligence. We're able to catch criminals and know if their lying just to cover up their thefts. A gift I've inherited." Fareeda said. "And our family's professional hackers too. We can gather information from our enemies without getting caught. We're even able to bypass through the most high security system in ease with no problem. A talent I've inherited." Kala said. "We're also capable of making enemies rehabilitate from their wicked ways and join our side." Paulina said.
"Like the Shanes, our family comes from the surface. We've all made the promise to keep Slugterra a secret from the surface, knowing that our 2 worlds can never mix." Aerona explained. "Your family has shared their secrets with ours because they know they can trust us." Kala said. "We're even aware of the Shanes' secret alliance with the Shadow Clan." Paulina said. "But even our family has their own secrets. Secrets we've never shared with your family." Aerona said. "I understand. Harley and I don't even know half the secrets of our family." Eli said.
"I'd hate to interrupt this fascinating story, but we need to up our game even more." Kord said. "Especially since Deagan got a Darkfurnus now." Trixie said. "You mean this thing?" Paulina asked, holding up a slug barrel containing the Darkfurnus. The gang was surprised at the sight. "How did you-?" Pronto asked. "I'm sort of a thief. I snatched it during my duel with Deagan. He didn't deserve it." Paulina said. "Ain't that the truth." Mario said. "I think you deserve it, Harley. Since you're a Shane." Paulina said. "I would be honored. But first things first." Harley said, pulling out his blaster and Ping's barrel. He loaded the barrel and slung Ping at the Darkfurnus, curing it with Healray. As the light cleared, in the Darkfurnus' place stood a female reddish-brown Infurnus. Burpy chittered with happiness and hopped down to join his old friend. The 2 slugs embraced each other tightly. "Looks like Burpy has his old friend back." Harley said. He then held out his hand for the new Infurnus. She hopped into his hand. But suddenly, Harley's eyes went white and was shown a vision.
[Vison]
Deagan had multiple wires around his neck, strangling him. He struggled to free himself. But his last breath left his body. He hung there, dangling by the wires. Dead.
[Vision end]
Harley panted heavily as his eyes returned to normal. "Harley, are you okay?" Eliza asked. "Dude, what happened?" Kord asked. "Nothing. It's nothing. I'm alright." Harley said. Eli looked at Harley with disbelief, but shrugged it off. "So, what's her name?" He asked. Harley and his new Infurnus looked deeply at each other, deciding on a name. "Hestia. After the great goddess of fire." Harley said. Hestia chittered with agreement.
Eli then approached the Garcias. "You 4 have any family left on the surface?" He asked. The girls' faces then went into sad frowns. "Well, not since our father went into a coma last month." Fareeda said. The gang's hearts dropped. "We don't know what caused it." Kala said. "For all we know, he might never wake up again." Paulina said, shedding a tear. "I'm so sorry. Harley and I know how you feel." Eli said. "Yeah. We lost our father before we came here too." Harley said. "Guess we all have the same problems." Fareeda said. "But that's what makes us a family." Eli said. The Garcias looked at each other with smiles upon hearing the word family. "And that's why we want you to join our team." Eli said. "Yeah. After hearing about the alliance between our families, you girls would be a big help to our mission." Harley said. Aerona stood up and stepped forth. "I say, you got yourselves allies from the Garcia Quadruplets." She said, holding out her hand. Eli took it and shook it, sealing the deal.
Later that night, Harley met up with Paulina outside. "What did you want to talk about, Harley?" Paulina asked. "It's about what happened when I touched Hestia." Harley said. Paulina listened closely. "When I touched her, I was shown a vision. Deagan was being…strangled to death." Harley started to explain. Paulina gasped. "Deagan was completely obsessed with obtaining an Infurnus. He was even threatening to squish my brother's Forgesmelter when we first met him and Dana." Harley said. "I doubt his obsession has clouded his mind and he'll never know death will come to him soon." Paulina said. "Maybe. But still, Deagan Por is one of most dangerous slingers there is. And we have to be ready for him next time we meet him." Harley said.
At Blakk's citadel, Blakk was furious with his agents. "How hard is it to actually try and kill the Shane Gang?! About that hard!" He spat. "Actually sir, they weren't alone." Deagan said. "They were reinforced by 4 girls. They were called the Garcia Quadruplets." Twist said. "Garcia?!" Blakk asked in shock. "Blakk, do you know that name?" Nacho asked. Blakk shrugged it off. "Not important. Just prepare for your next assignment." He ordered. The goons all turned and left. Nacho lingered a bit, glaring at Blakk before leaving to join them. Blakk thought long and hard on that one name he hadn't heard for some time. "Garcia." He growled.
Well, how about that? The Shane Gang gain some new allies from the surface. The Garcia Quadruplets. And with their help, Harley got his own Infurnus. But what does the vision Harley had of Deagan mean? This and more surprises soon await our Shane Gang. Leave a review if you want.
