Chapter 41: Wizard
Another morning at the Shane hideout. Eli gave a big yawn as he sat down on the couch. He looked at the table and saw his book. Deciding to read a little bit more, he picked up the book and opened it.
He continued where he left off on page 16. 'As cold as ice, the Ice Spirit is the embodiment of ice, snow and winter. It is known to be cold from the outside but warm from the inside. The spirit can freeze anything with a single touch in mere seconds. When angered, the Ice Spirit can trap an entire set of caverns into an endless winter.'
Eli turned to the 17th page. It showed a picture of the Ice Spirit. It bears a strong resemblance to a Frostcrawler. Only furrier than a normal Frostcrawler and with bigger horns. A title was written below the picture. 'The Ice Elemental.' "Elemental? What's an Elemental?" Eli asked.
He turned to the 18th page. It showed another picture of the Ice Spirit, but with a woman. The spirit stood on her right shoulder with a warm smile.
Eli then looked at the 19th page. 'Clash as the lightning, the Lightning Spirit is the embodiment of the thunderstorms. This spirit is hyperactive and has the power to summon thunderstorms. Beware of this spirit as mortals will not know when the spirit will strike down its targets with a lightning strike.'
Eli turned to the 20th page. It showed a picture of the Lightning Spirit. It bears the resemblance of a Tazerling. Only it had bigger lightning markings like a lion's mane. A title was written below the picture. 'The Electric Elemental.'
Eli then looked at the 21st page. It showed another picture of the Lightning Spirit with a little girl holding it in her hands as it smiles at her with glee.
Eli turned to the 22nd page. 'As bright as the light itself, the Light Spirit is the most beautiful and graceful among the spirits. The Light Spirit's beauty is a rare sight. Mortals that see this spirit is a sign of good luck and a blessing. Its tears are held with healing properties to heal any fatal injuries. The spirit also holds the magic of purification enable to cleansing all corruption and evil at once. However, for those who are too evil, shall be perished forever.'
Eli looked to the 23rd page. It showed a picture of the Light Spirit. It bears the resemblance of the mythical firebird as it flies across the air with grace. A title was written at the bottom. 'The Light Phoenix.'
Eli turned to the 24th page. It showed another picture of the Light Spirit. But with the same person who rode the Fire and Water Spirits as the Light Spirit sat on his left shoulder. 'I recognize these 3 spirits. I saw them in the vision from when I touched Grandma's scarf.' He thought.
Eli looked at the 25th page. 'As dark as the night itself, the Shadow Spirit is the embodiment of darkness and shadows. This spirit is the most dangerous among the spirits. It is said that it can make mortals' lives miserable by cursing them and bringing death upon them. It is also said that the Shadow Spirit is the true leader of the Shadow Clan. Beware of this dangerous spirit as it watches all mortals in the shadows.'
Eli turned to the 26th page. It showed a picture of the Shadow Spirit in the form of a black raven with cold violet eyes. A title was written below the picture. 'The Night Shadow.'
Eli then looked at the 27th page. It showed another picture of the Shadow Spirit. Behind it was the Shadow Clan.
Just then, Harley came in with a down look on his face. "Morning, Harley." Eli said. Harley didn't answer. He just sat down on the couch. Eli set the book down and scootched over to his brother. "Are you okay?" He asked. "I'm fine. It's just that I'm a little worried about my condition now that I'm a Darkbane hybrid now." Harley explained. "Worried how?" Eli asked. "Well, I'm just worried on how people will look at me now. If they will still recognize me as a Shane whenever I change into a Darkbane." Harley explained.
Eli was about to say something, but then an alert came onto their computer. Eli walked over and answered the call. It was from Jacques. "Eli! Harley! Blakk's forces are attacking us out here in Slag Rock Cavern! We need backup!" Jacques alerted before the screen went black. "Wake the others. We'll finish this chat later. I promise." Eli said. Harley nodded and hustled to wake the others.
The gang rode into Slag Rock Cavern on their mechas. There, they saw Jacques and his crew engaged in a duel with Blakk's soldiers. Twist and Deagan were leading the guards, along with Jon Bull, Shockwire, Frost and Flame. "I don't get why Nacho was put in charge! We're Blakk's apprentices for Floppers' sake!" Deagan cursed. "Actually, I'm his apprentice. You just signed your own allegiance by selling out your sister." Twist said, loading and slinging a Briardrill. "Do we need to have this conversation right now?! The Shane Gang just showed up!" Deagan called.
As Jacques group was getting bombarded by ghouls, Eli leapt over them and slung Rocky, sending a few guards flying. "Make way for Pronto the great!" Pronto hollered, slinging Molty and blasting a few ghouls with Dragonspyre. Shockwire slung an Amperling, followed by a Hop Jack and a Frostfang. Trixie countered by slinging Bluster, catching the ghouls and sending them back with a Slyphoon.
Deagan took careful aim as Harley came into the fight. "I got Harley in my sight." He said. "Let's hope Nacho's plan isn't a bust. Slug him!" Twist ordered. Deagan fired his ghoul, a Scariat. The ghoul hit Harley with Stickypalm. "Harley!" Eli called. The guards laughed at the look on Harley's face with all that goop and started throwing insults. Harley grew angry from all that. "First and last mistake, Deagan." He growled. His pupils went blood-red. His entire body began to mutate, transforming him into his Darkbane form. His slugs morphed into ghouls. Harley roared with anger, ready for battle.

Harley slung his ghouled Masher, knocking down a guard hard. "I got this kid!" Flame called, slinging a Pyringo. But Harley countered with Frostbite, freezing the Pyringo in a block of ice with Flizzard. "Stand aside, bro. This kid is iced." Frost said, taking aim. But Harley was quicker. He slung Frights, striking Frost and Flame with Paranoyd. Frost and Flame got scared from the effects. Harley roared, making the duo run off in fear.
"We gotta help Harley!" Eli called. "Why? Seems like he's doing a good job by himself." Kord said. "He's still outnumbered!" Eli said, running back into the fight. "Good point." Kord said, slinging Throttle. Watts slung his new Jellyish, Splatter, sliming a guard's face with Loogi. Mario slung Ricochet, bouncing off the walls and ground, knocking several blasters out of the guards' hands.
Kala and Paulina leapt off their mechas as they dodged a few fired ghouls. Kala slung Aries as she landed next to Paulina. They noticed they came face-to-face with Twist and Deagan. "Well, well. So, we meet again." Deagan said. "How unfortunate. For you." Paulina said. "You still owe me, Garcia! Change Loki back from his golden prison right now!" Twist demanded. "And I believe as I answered last time…no." Kala said, slinging Lila. The Thugglet performed Gremling, pulling down Twist's pants, revealing teal boxers with white stripes. As Blakk's guards started laughing, Twist did his best to hide his boxers. "Nice undies." Kala snickered, before slinging Aries and knocking Twist out.
As Harley continued to sling ghouls at Blakk's guards, Deagan marched towards him. "That Infurnus will be mine again, Shane!" He snarled. But then, Paulina stepped in his way. "You're not getting Hestia back, Deagan! If you continue this obsession, you'll pay the price with your life!" She said. "I'm so done listening to you!" Deagan shouted, slinging a Hop Jack. Paulina dodged the ghoul with a backflip. Deagan continued to sling ghoul after ghoul at the youngest Garcia. Paulina continued to dodge every ghoul with backflips.
"My turn!" Paulina called, slinging Virgo. Then, as Virgo transformed, she used her martial arts skills, commanding her Vinedrill to dive into the ground. "What're you doing?" Deagan asked in confusion. "This!" Paulina said as Vinelash sprouted from behind Deagan. Through Paulina's commands, one of the vines grabbed Deagan's underwear and yanked it up really hard, thus giving him a big wedgie. As Virgo returned to her slinger, Deagan struggled to get free. "Get me down this instant!" He shouted. "Why? You look like you're having fun from up there." Paulina teased, walking away. "Wait! Stop! GET BACK HERE!" Deagan screamed.
Nearby, the shadowy wizard slug was watching from behind a stalactite. Its eyes never left Harley. It could feel the anger coming from him, fueling his Darkbane form. Harley slung Bubbles, swallowing one of the guards. Bull ran over to Twist, who was trying to pull up his pants. "I'm all for taking these Shane losers down and all, but I think we should retreat." Bull said. Twist saw that the Shane Gang was really hammering their guards. Fareeda slung her new Hoverbug, Sagittarius, carrying off a guard. Kord slung his old Flatulorhinkus, Flats, creating Blorfball. Paulina followed with her new Tormato, Capricorn, blowing the Blorfball at the guards with Gaelstorm. The guards fainted from the smell. Kord and Paulina each other gave a fist-bump. "You're right. We got what we need for Nacho. Pull everyone back." Twist said. "Fall back! Fall back!" Bull called. The guards retreated on their mechas. Shockwire managed to get Deagan loose from his Vinelash wedgie and they joined the others.
Afterwards, the Shane Gang was confused with this attack. Not a single slug was captured. "I just don't get it. Why would Nacho send them down here if not to capture any slugs?" Kord asked. "Whatever it was, they probably succeeded." Lash said. "Well, we're just lucky you all done showed up when you did." Jacques said. "We're always here to help, Jacques." Eli said. "But will your brother be okay there?" Jacques asked, pointing to a still transformed Harley. "Yeah, he'll be okay once he calms down." Eli assured.
Harley looked at his hand, taking in how he looks as a Darkbane. "You good there, Harley?" Eli asked as he and the others joined his brother. "Yeah. I'll be okay in a minute." Harley said. He took a deep breath and slowly changed back. His ghouls changed back into slugs too. "Great to know that you're doing okay. But we need to keep on our toes." Eli said. "He's right. With Blakk MIA, Nacho, Twist and Deagan are gonna get really aggressive to pick up the slack." Trixie said. "Eli? I think I need to leave for a while." Harley said. "What? Why?" Eli asked. "I just need to be alone. Just to soak all of this hybrid stuff in." Harley said. "Well, at least let me or Mom go with you." Eli said. "Please Harley." Eliza said. "No. I really wanna do this by myself." Harley said. Eli looked at his brother with sadness. "Don't worry. I'll be okay." Harley said. He then mounted Delta and rode off. "I hope you know what you're doing, Harley." Eli said. The shadowy slug watched him leave, then disappeared in a magenta flash.
Harley rode into Jungle Cavern. He dismounted Delta and walked into the jungle. He found a nice log and sat down. "What to do? How can I deal with being a hybrid? I can't put my family in harm's way." He said to himself. 'To deal with one's faults, he must first be willing to accept them.' A voice echoed in the air. Harley jolted up and drew his blaster. "Who's there?! Come out with your hands where I can see them!" He called. 'Be calm, young Shane. I mean you no harm.' The voice assured. Harley turned as a magenta flash appeared in front of him. In place of magenta smoke floated a strange slug bearing resemblance of a wizard.
"Who or what are you?" Harley asked. 'I am but a slug who wishes to help you learn to accept who you are now.' The slug said telepathically. Harley looked at the slug. "You don't look like any kind of slug I've ever seen." He said. 'I am of a rare type belonging to a group of slugs. We were the greatest of all slugs in Slugterra.' The slug said. Harley was amazed. 'But alas, that is a story for another time. Let us get back to the task at hand.' The slug said. "What task? There's no task." Harley said. 'But there is. I've seen how scared you are of your new abilities. How you became what you are now.' The slug said. "So, you know that the Darkbane infected me with their Dark Water and the Shadow Clan made me a hybrid with water from the Lightwell." Harley guessed. 'Yes. And I am here to help you control your transformation.' The slug said. Harley raised his eyebrow with confusion and interest.
Meanwhile, back at Blakk's citadel, Twist and Deagan reported to Nacho. "Well? How did it go?" Nacho asked tauntingly. "I'll tell you how it went, demon man." Deagan said threateningly. "Shut up, Deagan. I'll tell him." Twist said, holding Deagan back. Deagan backed off. "Did the Shane boy turn out as I expected him to?" Nacho asked. "Well…yes and no. Harley did transform into one of you guys. But I saw that he could transform back too." Twist explained. Nacho put all this to thought. "He must not learn to control his transformation. I put too much work into this plan." He muttered. He then turned to leave. "And where are you going?" Twist asked. "I'm going to seek out the Shane boy. Alone." Nacho said as the door closed. Twist and Deagan looked at each other and shrugged.
At the hideout, the gang sat down around the place, thinking about Harley. The slugs chirped and chittered with thought. The pets sit close by Bella lay her head on Eli's lap as Eli rubbed her head. "You think Harley's okay out there on his own?" Fareeda asked. "Who knows? We all know Harley can handle himself. But due to his condition, I don't know what to think." Kord said. "We mustn't worry about Harley. For he is like the lone wolf looking to find his path." Shimei said. "I'm with Shimei. We must believe that he still be the same Harley we know and love when he comes back." Paulina said. "If he comes back." Pronto said. Everyone glared at the molenoid. "What? I'm just saying that him coming back is a possibility!" Pronto assured. "Not that he wouldn't want to come back-" Rath placed his big hand over Pronto's head, muffling him.
Eli looked out the window. "You think Harley's really gonna be alright out there, babe?" Trixie asked. "I know Harley's going to be alright. Somehow, I just know." Eli said.
Meanwhile, Harley sat down, ready for whatever lesson this slug had planned for him. However, the slug just floated there with his eyes closed like he was meditating. "Uh, not to be rude, but aren't you supposed to be helping me?" Harley asked. 'That's what I'm doing.' The slug said. Harley was confused. 'One of my many abilities is looking inside the minds of people. When I meditate, I can see the things you think about. I'm using this ability to see what angers you.' The slug explained. Harley understood and relaxed himself, allowing the slug to look through his mind. The slug's eyes opened with a magenta light as he entered Harley's thoughts.

Thoughts of Happiness and Love:
Eli and Harley's childhood. The 2 boys playing with Burpy and little Bella as Will and Eliza watched.
The day Eli and Harley left their mother and their home on the surface for Slugterra. Saying goodbye to Eliza and heading down the Drop.
When they met Trixie, Kord and Pronto. How they became the Shane Gang. Recruiting Vance, Mario, Lash, Shimei, Watts, Dana and the Garcia Quadruplets. Reuniting with their mother. Playing with their pets at the hideout.
Thoughts of Hate and Anger:
Dueling the man responsible for their father's disappearance. Dr. Blakk.
When Twist betrayed them. Deagan betraying Dana for his own threatening obsession with obtaining the Infurnus slug for his own.
Battling the Darkbane forces. Brimstone. El Diablos Nacho.
And of course, Pronto's annoying boasts.
[Outside Harley's Mind]
'Ah, I see. Your anger is fueled by the forces of evil for their misdeeds.' The slug deduced. 'Dr. Blakk, the man responsible for your father's disappearance. Twist, a boy you trusted who betrayed you with deception. Deagan Por, a boy who betrayed his own sister for an obsession with your brother's Infurnus. And the Darkbane, the one known as El Diablos Nacho, the one who cursed you.' Harley felt his blood boil upon recapping his memories of his enemies. 'But of course, your molenoid friend, he is also the cause of this anger issue, yes?' The slug asked. "Unfortunately, yes. Pronto's always boasting about his so-called 'special talents' 24-7! He always seems to forget that he's just a common molenoid like everyone else in Molemound. Despite him being the king, of course." Harley said.
'But your other thoughts give you control of your transformation.' The slug said. Harley was confused. 'Your thoughts of love. Love given to you by your brother, your mother, your friends, and even your father. It is that very love which allows you to control your transformation. For as long as there is the feeling of love in you, you will never truly change who you are.' The slug explained. Harley smiled at that thought.
"Well, well, well. And here I thought I'd never find you." A familiar voice said. Harley glared and turned to whom the voice belonged to. "El Diablos Nacho." He growled. Nacho just smiled with a sneer as he dismounted his mecha. 'So, this is the Darkbane who infected you?' The slug asked. "Yep." Harley said. 'Hmm. He is more hideous in person than in your memories.' The slug joked. Harley laughed at that.
Nacho however kept his focus on Harley. "Young Shane, it is time to embrace your destiny." He said. "Destiny? What destiny?" Harley asked. "Your destiny to fight alongside the Darkbane." Nacho said. Harley was shocked to hear this. "So, come. You no longer need to fight alongside your brother. He'll never accept you for who you are now." Nacho said. 'Do not listen to him, Harley. Remember your lesson. It is your brother's love that will lead you to your true answer.' The slug said. Harley thought back to everything he went through with his brother. How far they came since first coming to Slugterra. Finally, he took a few small steps towards Nacho. "You're dead, Darkbane." He said, making his choice.
"Wrong answer!" Nacho snarled, drawing his blaster and slinging a Grimmstone. Harley dodged to the right and the slug disappeared with a magenta light. Harley drew his blaster and slung Sizzle. Nacho ducked to dodge the incoming Grenuke. Sizzle landed behind him and his tail started sizzling down. He exploded, sending Nacho flying. Nacho quickly recovered and slung another ghoul. Harley ran to dodge the incoming ghouls and slung another slug, taking cover behind a rock.
"Hiding behind a rock now? And here I thought you were as challenging as your brother." Nacho mocked. Harley panted, trying to get another barrel ready. "Do you really think your brother will want you to stay now that you're basically a monster? He'll just send you away. Convince the Shadow Clan to lock you in the Deep Caverns with the rest of my Darkbane brothers. Your so-called friends will turn on you. Your pets will see you as a threat. Even your own mother won't even see you as her son anymore." Harley gritted his teeth, trying to block out everything Nacho was saying. "Face it, Shane. This is your fate now. You're now meant to side with my master. To join me and the Darkbane. To become our new brother."
Harley dropped his blaster and his barrel and grabbed onto his head. He could feel the anger of his Darkbane half surging into his brain. He screamed in pain. 'No! No! This isn't my fate! It can't be my fate! I'm not one of them! I'm a Shane! Not a Darkbane! A Shane!' He thought as the power caused him great pain. 'Do not fear your anger. Do not let it control you.' The slug's voice spoke to him from the air. Harley looked around, wondering where the slug was. 'Remember the lesson. The love of your brother, your mother, your friends, it will always remind you of who you really are.' The slug said. Harley took a deep breath and relaxed himself. His changes ceased as he did. 'Good. Now show that inhuman beast who you really are.' The slug said.
Harley stood up and readied his blaster. Nacho readied his too, but Harley was faster. He slung Hestia. She transformed and blew her Flashfire, knocking Nacho's blaster out of his hand. Nacho growled as he watched his blaster burn before turning back to Harley. "You infected me with Dark Water in the Deep Caverns. And made me what I am." Harley said. "Yeah. Yeah, I can see that was wrong." Nacho admitted.
Just then, the slug appeared beside Harley. 'May I have a shot in?' He asked. "You may. I've been wondering what else you can do." Harley said. He held up a barrel and the slug descended into it. Harley then loaded the barrel and took aim at Nacho. He then slung the slug. It transformed and fired a magenta ring beam from its magical eye from its forehead. The beam hit Nacho and sent him flying into the foliage behind him. The slug transformed back and floated back to Harley. 'Well, he won't be bothering you for quite some time.' The slug said. "I certainly hope so." Harley said. He walked to Delta and mounted him. But then something came up to him. "Say, slug? What exactly is your name?" He asked. 'Slugs of my kind don't have a name.' The slug said regretfully. "Then how about I call you…Wizard?" Harley suggested. 'I'd like that.' The slug said with a smile.
Just as Harley rode away, Nacho slowly recovered. He groaned as he sat up and rubbed his head. "What's going on here?" He asked. He finally opened his eyes and looked around. "What am I doing here? Was I doing something?" He asked himself.
As Harley rode back, Wizard gave a warning to him about his anger. 'Remember, you must keep watch on your anger. If you get too angry, you will never be the same again.' The slug said. "Don't worry. I promise I won't let my anger get the better of me." Harley said. Just then, Harley thought about his vision of Deagan. "Wizard, I need to tell you something. I had a vision about my enemy Deagan. He was being strangled to death." He explained. 'Ah. You have the ability known as Precognition, the power to see into the future.' Wizard explained. Harley was shocked upon hearing this. "But how did I get this power?" He asked. 'It is a power passed down from ancient generations of the unkowns. In fact, not only do you have the power to see into the future. Eli has one as well. He has the ability to see into the past, that power is called Retrocognition.' Wizard revealed. Harley was in awe about learning this. "That explains why Eli and I blanked out when we touched Hestia, Bella and Grandma's scarf." He said. Then he started to wonder. "Wizard, which of our relatives had these abilities and passed them down to me and Eli?" He asked. 'That's a question that will have to wait. For it is too soon to tell.' Wizard said.
Harley sighed, knowing he was right. 'Young Shane, one day you and your brother must forgive Twist and Deagan. For I have seen a vision of them during their attack in Slag Rock Cavern when you lost control.' Wizard said. "A vision?" Harley asked. 'They will redeem themselves and side with you, your brother and your friends for a better future for Slugterra.' Wizard revealed. "What exactly did you see in this vision? How will Twist and Deagan redeem themselves?" Harley asked. 'You will find out yourself soon in the future.' Wizard said. "Okay, now you're just teasing." Harley said. Wizard chuckled.
'And one more thing. You must be patient with Pronto. Remember that Pronto lost his dear twin brother, Pinto. And you felt pity for him and his younger siblings.' Wizard said. Harley hadn't thought of that since Molemound. How the guard explained to him about Pinto. "Alright. I'll do my best to be patient with Pronto. For the sake of his quintuplet siblings." He said.
By then, they were almost back to the hideout. 'Well, this is as far as I will go. I must leave you now.' Wizard said. "Wait. I have one more question. How is it you knew about my problem with my Darkbane powers?" Harley asked. 'Someone requested me to help you in accepting who you are now. And that someone who was very close to you and your brother before she passed away.' Wizard explained. Harley was about to ask, but Wizard stopped him. 'Don't worry about who it is now. You will get your answers very soon when the time arrives.' He said. Harley watched as Wizard floated high into the air. 'Goodbye, Harley Shane. We will meet again. Someday.' Wizard said, disappearing with a flash of magenta light. Harley stared at the spot in which he disappeared. "You know, somehow I believe that we will." He said.
As Harley returned to the hideout, he told everyone about what happened. "And then Nacho attacked me. But I managed to stop him with Wizard." He explained. Everyone was in awe at his explanation. "So, this Wizard slug taught you how to control your transformation?" Kord asked. "Well, yes. You see, it was all in my thoughts." Harley said. "Your thoughts?" Lash asked. "My thoughts on love and friendship. My memories of everything we've been through. They help me control my powers now." Harley explained. Eliza started to tear up, thinking of the same memories. "So, if I should thank anyone other than Wizard, it's you guys. Thank you all for always sticking by me. For giving such memories I can rely on. Especially you, Pronto." Harley said. Pronto teared up and lunged at Harley, hugging him tightly. Harley chuckled and hugged him back. Eli, Eliza and the others soon joined in the hug too.
Later, Eli and Harley met in their room. "So, what Wizard said is that we have the power to see in the past and the future?" Eli guessed. "Yes. That's what happened when I touched Hestia and when you touched Bella and Grandma's scarf. Wizard said it was a power passed down from an ancient generation." Harley said. "But from who did it pass down to us from?" Eli asked. "Who knows, Eli? Who knows?" Harley said, looking out the window.
Meanwhile, Nacho returned to Blakk's citadel. Twist and Deagan marched up to him, getting in his face. "Nacho! Where have you been?!" Deagan asked. "What happened out there?! What happened with the Shane?!" Twist asked. Nacho just snarled at them. "Just get back to work." He said before leaving. Twist and Deagan looked at each other in confusion.
Wizard reappeared in a different cavern. "I see you accomplished your mission." A woman's voice said in the shadows. 'I have. Your grandson will not have anymore trouble with his transformation.' Wizard said. "Good. Because my grandsons are going to need all the help they can get for the future. I hope they'll be prepared for the dangers that are coming." The woman said. She came out from the shadows, revealing herself to be a spirit. The spirit of Eliza's late mother and Eli and Harley's late grandmother, Xantara Wilson.
Well, that was surprising. Harley starts losing control of his new hybrid powers and a mysterious wizard slug appears and helps him control them. But what secrets is he hiding for the future? And what dangers could Grandma Xantara be speaking about? My suggestion: Pray that Eli, Harley and their friends can stop whatever's to come. Leave a review if you want.
