Chapter 45: Twisted Birth
One day, everyone in the Shane Gang was doing their usual daily routines. "Everyone, pack your bags! We're going on vacation!" Pronto called, bursting into the hideout. The gang was surprised to hear this. "Vacation?!" Vance asked in shock. "Are you serious?!" Aerona asked. "Yes. We are about to take our second vacation ever. Well, first vacation since most of you are still new to the Shane Gang after our last one." Pronto said. Vance, Mario, Lash, Shimei, Eliza, Watts, Dana, the Garcias and Rune muttered in agreement.
"Speaking of which, this isn't another scam you roped us into, is it?" Harley asked in suspicion. "Actually, this one's all me." Paulina said, coming into the picture. "Paulina? You're responsible?" Kala asked. "Yes. Paulina here has won an exclusive ticket to a free weekend at Sandstone Cavern!" Pronto revealed. "SANDSTONE CAVERN?!" Everyone except Eli, Harley, Eliza and the Garcias screamed. "Sandstone Cavern? What's that?" Eli asked. "Only the biggest resort location in all of Slugterra! It's the most luxurious cavern with lots of resorts. The perfect vacation spot to relax. But it's like nearly impossible to even rent a room there. They're always so pricey." Pronto said. "True. But with my ticket, we have exclusive access to the resort." Paulina said.
Eli seemed interested at first. "As fun as that sounds, we're not going on vacation." Trixie said, shocking everyone. "She's right. Remember last time we took a vacation, Pronto? We nearly wound up being scammed by Sergeant Slug." Harley said. "Oh, please! Please, please, please, please! We all need a break from all the slug slinging and duels we've been through in the past few months! Especially all the training!" Pronto begged. "And besides, the vacation is only for a week." Everyone started to think about it. After a few minutes of thinking, Eli came to a decision. "Okay, Pronto. It's time to get our vacation on." He said. Pronto was so happy. But as he cheered, he slipped and fell on his back.

By the time the clock hit noon, the gang had finished loading their luggage into their carrier, ready for their vacation. They got their pets ready too. For they heard that Sandstone Cavern had a place for pets too. "This is gonna be the vacation we really need." Kord said. "I can't wait to see how you people relax in these resorts." Rune said, as this is his first time going to a luxury resort like Sandstone Cavern. "But what about the hideout? We can't just leave it unguarded while we go on vacation." Eli said. "Not to worry, Eli. It's a good chance to try out a little something I've been working on." Fareeda said. She held up a button and pushed it. It activated an electric barrier surrounding the hideout. The gang was in awe. "Like it? It's a new security feature I came up with for the hideout." Fareeda said. Eli walked towards the barrier. Sensing his presence, the barrier opened an opening for him. "Wow." Eli said. "See, when it senses our presence, we're allowed entry. But when it senses the unknown presence of an intruder, they'll get a shock if they try to go through the barrier. That also includes slugs and ghouls." Fareeda explained. "The barrier is also immune to Tazerling and Amperling electric attacks from the outside, and if someone tries to hack it, it is completely hack-proof, even from professional hackers. It can also detect if someone is using a Thugglet slug or a Smugglet ghoul to disguise themselves." The gang, except Aerona, Kala and Paulina, were in total awe. "Now that is some high-quality security." Kord said with impression.
"Big brother Pronto!" 5 familiar voices called. "Uh-oh." Pronto said, knowing who that was before he suddenly got dogpiled. "What the?!" Eli asked in surprise. Pronto was brought into a cuddle attack by none other than his quintuplet siblings. "The Geronimo Quintuplets? What're they doing here?" Harley asked. "We heard you were going to Sandstone Cavern for a vacation, so we wanted to come along." Jaxson said. "But not just us." Michaela said, pointing out to the land bridge. Eli and the others looked to see Brodie and Katie on their mechas. "Brodie!" Trixie called. "Katie!" Mario called. "What're you guys doing here?" Harley asked. "Trixie and Mario called us and told us about your winning vacation in Sandstone Cavern. So, we picked up Pronto's quintuplets and came here." Katie said. "Yeah. Can't let you guys have all the vacation fun without the rest of the family." Brodie said. "Then welcome. The more the merrier." Eli said.
Without waiting another second, the gang hit the road, on their way to Sandstone Cavern. "Sandstone Cavern is said to be one of the richest caverns in all the 99 caverns. The cavern is said to be owned by the Jones family." Trixie explained. "I've heard of the Jones family. Mr. and Mrs. Jones had 6 children who were sextuplets. But suddenly, the sixth sextuplet, who was the youngest one, was kidnapped when he was just a baby. The sextuplets became the quintuplets because of that loss." Lash explained. The gang was upset to hear that, especially Pronto and his quintuplet siblings, knowing what it was like to lose a sibling.
Meanwhile, at Blakk's Citadel, Nacho called a few of Blakk's goons and the top elite slingers to Blakk's throne room. "Gentlemen, we've been on the brink of failure time and time again. So, I've decided to bring a new player to the table." Nacho said. The newest employee in Blakk Industries stepped entered and took place beside Nacho. "Meet our newest henchman, Dred." Nacho introduced. Dred was a dark-skinned man with dark-blue hair and a scar over his left eye, armed with silver armor and accessories with a blaster of Locke and Load's model. Everyone gasped in shock and fear knowing who Dred was. Dred was an assassin slinger and the deadliest man alive for he was known as a cold-blooded killer. He kills his opponents as soon as he defeats them and is not afraid to draw blood without hesitation or show any sign of regret.
"Uh, boss? Why exactly is Dred here?" Locke asked out of fear. "Dred is here because he'll be a handful in getting rid of the Shane Gang once and for all." Nacho calmly answered. "Now, if you'll excuse us, Dred and I have something to discuss privately. Wait here for the next mission." Nacho and Dred left the room.
Nacho and Dred had entered a private room. "So, you know what to do. Should Twist fail this mission…kill him, and you shall stand by Dr. Blakk as his new replacement apprentice." Nacho said. "With pleasure. That boy will never see it coming." Dred said with a sinister smile.
Soon enough, Nacho and Dred came back to the throne room. "Alright, listen up! Prepare yourselves! For your next mission will be to take Sandstone Cavern!" Nacho said. 'Sandstone Cavern. Why does that name sound familiar for some reason?' Twist thought. "Twist, Locke, Load, Bull and Dred, you will be leading the guards for this mission." Nacho instructed. The guards were shocked to hear that Dred was coming with them, but decided to stay silent, not wanting to argue due to a cold glare Dred was giving them. But the glare was only focused on Twist as he was to kill him if he failed again. Twist noticed Dred's glare was on him. He felt a shiver run up his spine as he felt something bad was going to happen.
Meanwhile, the gang had just arrived at Sandstone Cavern. They were in awe at how luxurious the cavern is. "It is such an amazing sight." Watts said. "Where will we be staying?" Vance asked. Kala brings out her phone and opens up a map. "There's a hotel. And I know where it is." She said.
Kala led the gang towards the hotel. It was called Sandstone Hotel. When they arrived, it looked quite luxurious. "That hotel looks so expensive. You would not imagine the millions amount of gold it took to build and construct this." Trixie said.
The gang parked their mechas and went inside with some of their bags and the pets following close behind. As they entered the hotel, they approached the reception desk. "Welcome to Sandstone Hotel. How can we help you?" The woman at the desk asked politely. Paulina showed her ticket to the woman. "Ah. Congratulations on winning our contest. Your stay will be absolutely free. So, there will be no need for payment." The woman said. The gang was surprised to hear this. "Yes! Now we'll be able to do everything within one week!" Pronto cheered. "Oh, but I'm afraid that your pets aren't allowed in this hotel. Only your slugs are." The woman said. "Then where will the pets stay?" Harley asked as Bella rubbed against him. "I know where they can stay." A voice said.
The gang turned around to see who said that. Only to see an unexpectedly familiar face. "Twist!" Eli said. The gang prepared to draw their blasters, but Kala stopped them. "Don't! This isn't Twist." She said. The gang looked at him. His appearance was far different than Twist's. He had shoulder-length dirty blonde hair, a dark brown T-shirt with a black vest, black fingerless gloves, indigo jeans and black hiking boots. "Oh! Manners. I'm Thomas Jones, the eldest child of the Jones Quintuplets." Thomas introduced. "Eli Shane. And this is my gang. This is my brother Harley, my fiancé Trixie and her sister Brodie, Kord, Pronto and his quintuplet siblings, and Vance Volt, Mario Bravado and his girlfriend Katie, Lash and Shimei, my mother Eliza, Watts, Dana Por, Aerona, Fareeda, Kala and Paulina Garcia, and this is Rune, the Prince of the Shadows. And this is Bella, and Rath, Wormy, the bats are Kobi, Cole and Amra, Reolin and Dew, Kibble and Nipper, Marble, Hydrus, Crater, Buzzy and Musca." Eli introduced. "No kidding! The legit Shane Gang?! Such an honor it is." Thomas said, shaking Eli's hand.
Thomas led the gang out of the hotel, where his siblings were getting the rest of the gang's bags from their carrier. "Shane Gang, meet my other 4 siblings." Thomas introduced. "That up there's Steven, the second eldest." Steven had chin-length teal hair, a maroon V-neck shirt with a lime vest, jet black fingerless gloves, black jeans and dark green boots. "That's Linda by the one big bag." Linda had elbow-length brown hair, a white shirt with a grey jacket, dark grey gloves, blue denim mini-skirt and teal ballet slippers. "And those 2 are Barbara and Anneli." Barbara had blue hair in a short bob, a rose T-shirt with an exposed midsection, baby blue gloves, a black denim skirt and white sporty shoes. Anneli had green blue wavy long-length hair, a teal shirt, dark teal gloves, grey short denim jeans and chocolate brown cowboy boots. The 4 siblings waved to say hello. "Nice to meet you all." Eli said, waving back.
The Jones Quintuplets led the gang to a location known as the Pet Hotel. "This is where your pets will be staying." Barbara said. As the group entered, they were in awe to see many kinds of pets with their caretakers. Slug Hounds, Puffer Hawks, Cavern Fish, dozens of pets. "Just sign right here and your pets will be well taken care of." Barbara said. So, the gang signed their pets into the Pet Hotel. 3 assigned caretakers then came out. "Thank you for waiting. We will take care of your pets." The lead caretaker said. Bella came up and rubbed the caretaker's leg. "Seeing a Zesherian, it's very rare." The caretaker said, petting Bella's head. "Thank you for taking care of them. They're very special to us. Especially Bella." Eli said. "You have our word, Eli Shane." The caretaker said. Eli nodded and left with the gang and the Jones siblings as they head back to the hotel.
The gang was now relaxing at the hotel's pool area. "CANNONBALL!" Pronto yelled, hopping into the pool. Barbara, Dana, Mario and Katie, who were sitting near the side, got splashed from Pronto's cannonball. "Is that mole always so unaware of others around him?" Barbara asked. "Usually, but you get used to him." Mario said. "Yeah. Pronto's an okay member of this gang and a true friend." Dana said.
"Thomas, could you tell us about your sixth sibling who was kidnapped years ago?" Lash asked. Thomas sighed sadly. "We were really saddened when we lost our youngest brother. It was the day we were born that he was kidnapped." He explained. The gang felt pity for the quintuplets for they were sextuplets before they lost the 6th sibling. "But we've never given up on him. We've been searching for him for a long time." Thomas said. "We should know him when we find him. He'll probably look like me and Thomas since we're identical brothers." Steven said. "Eli, Twist does look identical to Thomas and Steven." Trixie whispered. "It might be possible that Twist could be the missing sibling. But we can't be sure unless there's proof for the possible connection between Twist and the Jones Quintuplets." Eli whispered back.
Just then, people started screaming. The gang turned as they saw the other guests running and dodging ghouls. "What's going on?" Thomas asked. "It's Blakk's forces." Harley said. "Blakk? You mean Dr. Blakk?" Anneli asked. "Yeah, the same. But his main enforcer, El Diablos Nacho took over command since Blakk's MIA at the moment." Trixie said. "I will not stand for them ruining our vacation!" Pronto exclaimed in annoyance. "But you are standing." Harley said. "Don't patronize me!" Pronto exclaimed. "Even so, Pronto's right. We gotta stop Nacho before he destroys this entire resort. Let's go!" Eli said. "Count us in." Thomas said as he and his siblings stood up. "You sure?" Eli asked. "This hotel, this resort, this entire cavern is our home." Thomas said. "Plus, we're pretty good slingers ourselves." Barbara said. "Then let's get going." Eli said.
Nacho's army continue slinging their ghouls, scaring off the guests. "Twist!" Eli called. The army turned to see the gang and the Jones' coming towards. "Figured we'd see you here." Twist said. Locke, Load and Bull took their position. Dred appeared and took place next to Twist. The Jones siblings and the gang, minus Eli, Harley, Eliza, the Garcias and Rune, gasped at Dred's appearance. "What's wrong with you guys?" Harley asked. "That man next to Twist. That's Dred!" Pronto said, cowering behind Kord. "Dred? Never heard of him." Eli said. "Neither have we." Aerona said. "Nor I." Eliza said. "Me either." Rune said. "Dred is the most deadliest assassin slinger in all of Slugterra." Vance said. "Most slingers are very afraid of the stuff Dred can do. For he's never afraid to draw blood during a duel. Literally." Kord said. "Even Captain Drake fears him throughout Undertow Cavern." Watts said.
Eli and Harley looked at Dred, who smiled at them very wickedly. Just then, their abilities triggered.
[Eli's Vision]
Nacho and Dred were talking about Twist in their private room. "So, you know what to do. Should Twist fail this mission…kill him, and you shall stand by Dr. Blakk as his new replacement apprentice." Nacho said. "With pleasure. That boy will never see it coming." Dred said with a sinister smile.
[Harley's Vision]
Dred was beating up Deagan. Deagan's face was covered in his own blood and tears were streaming down his eyes. "Help me! Please! Help me!" He cried. Dred drew his assassin knife from his belt and slit Deagan's throat.
[Visions End]
Eli and Harley panted heavily from the horror they had witnessed. Trixie and Eliza helped them. "What happened? Did you guys have visions?" Trixie asked. "Yeah. And it was horrible." Eli said. "What was horrible? What did you see?" Kord asked. "Believe me. What I saw, it's way too horrible for me to even explain." Harley said. Thomas and his siblings stared at Twist, shocked to see that he was identical to him and Steven. "Do you think that Twist guy is our long-lost sixth sibling?" Barbara asked in a whisper. "He might be. His face does look like me and Thomas." Steven whispered.
"SLUG 'EM!" Twist shouted. The army started slinging their ghouls. "Start slinging!" Eli called. The gang started slinging back. Trixie slung Balloon, spraying the ground under some guards with Foambaloo, making them slip and fall. Load came in with a Thrasher, spinning with Knawblade. But Watts slung Rush, intercepting with Rockstorm. The rocks hit the ghoul dead on, knocking it down.
Shimei and Rune got their blasters ready. "Now, remember what I taught you about using your blaster. It takes pure concentration to sling your slugs the way you want them to." Shimei instructed. "I remember. Got it." Rune said. "Then show them what you got, gakusei." Shimei said. Rune stepped forth. Locke and Load saw him coming and walked towards him to confront him. "So, you're the famous Prince of the Shadows we've heard so much about." Locke said. "He don't look so 'princey' to me." Load said. "Well, he's practically a savage due to being raised by the Shadow Clan." Locke said. "I'd be careful about what you say next. You will regret it." Rune warned. "I may not be smart, brother, but I believe he just threatened us." Load said. "Then let's return the favor." Locke said. The brothers both slung a couple of Hop Jacks. Rune split his blaster into 2 and prepared to sling. He waited as the 2 ghouls got closer and then, he first slung his Negashade, Uruz, and then his Thresher, Ansuz. Uruz shrouded the ghouls with Shadowblak, then Ansuz sawed them down with Throttlebite. Locke and Load were shocked by this movement. "Now that was some mystic stuff." Load said. Just then, they heard another slug being slung. Then an Armashelt came out of the Shadowblak and bashed into the brothers.
Twist and Kala came into confrontation. "Oh. I've got a little surprise for you, Garcia. Your little slug's golding trick wore off a couple days ago. Now Loki here's back to his good-looking self." Twist said as Loki, free from his gold prison, appeared on his shoulder. "That's no surprise to me. Even free from his golden prison, me and Lila are better than you." Kala said. Lila hopped on Kala's shoulder and blew Twist and Loki a raspberry. Twist and Loki got angry from that.
Dred watched them from afar, observing Twist's actions. He knew Twist would lose to Kala, and that will give him his chance.
Twist slung a Greneater. Kala stuck her staff blaster in the ground and twirled on it like a pole to dodge the ghoul. Then she slung Prick, but then Twist slung a Grimmstone to intercept. "Twist! You need to understand! You have no idea what your desire for revenge against Eli and Harley will lead you! Your revenge is meaningless!" Kala scolded. Twist just slung a Briardrill out of anger. Kala backflipped to dodge the ghoul. "I blame the Shanes for everything that ever happened to me! Even for not saving my father!" Twist shouted. Kala snapped and slung Sparkly, blinding Twist with Flashbang. Then she slung Gemini, wrapping around his legs with Wrapattak. Then she slung Aries, knocking him down with a single punch. "You are a fool! Your revenge will lead you to a fate worse if you continue on this path! Revenge can lead to your doom." Kala said coldly. Twist suddenly froze in place on what she said. Her words had gotten the better of him. Seeing her chance, Kala loaded Aurum and slung him, blowing Twist away with Golden Duststorm somewhere into the deeper parts of Sandstone Cavern.
The gang and Nacho's army continued to fight. Dana slung Sprite. But a goon slung a Harmashelt, knocking the poor Flaringo aside and heading towards Dana. But then, a Bubbaleone zipped in and swallowed the ghoul. Dana turned and saw Anneli with a smoking blaster. "You good?" Anneli asked. "I'm good. Nice shot." Dana said. "Thanks. We did a lot of practice together when we were kids." Anneli said.
3 goons pinned Vance and Mario down with Hop Jacks. The goons prepared to finish the job. But then Steven came in and slung a Slicksilver. The slug then crushed the goons' blasters with Cancrush. The goons looked at their blasters in shock. "Scared?" Steven asked as Thomas walked up beside him. "You should be." Thomas said. He raised his blaster and slung a Frightgeist, hitting the goons with Frightningrod. The goons then got scared from the approaching brothers and ran for their lives. "Nice going, bro." Steven said. "You too, bro." Thomas said, fist-bumping his brother.
Kord was dueling Bull. Kord got slugged in the face by a Jollyfist's Goo Bear, then bashed by a Grimmstone. He barely got the chance to recover when Bull loomed over him, blaster ready. "Well, isn't this a matter of déjà vu? Once again, troll, you fall by my hand." Bull gloated. "And this time, you will not be walking away." Kord closed his eyes and awaited the final blow. Just then, an Arachnet latched onto Bull's blaster and retracted itself on its web, pulling the blaster out Bull's hand. Bull looked on in shock as the blaster was caught by Linda, who stood next to Barbara. "Now is that anyway to treat our guests?" Linda asked. That made Bull very mad. "No. But this is how we treat uninvited guests." Babara said, slinging a Tazerling and zapping Bull with Tazerbolt.
"RETREAT! Let's get outta here!" Locke yelled. The remaining enemies ceased their firing and ran for the hills as the gang kept firing. "They're retreating! Nacho's army is retreating!" Brodie called. "We did it! We turned the tide!" Pronto said, firing another slug. Locke, Load and Bull led the army out of the resort, but Dred, seeing where Twist was blown to, rode down in a different direction. Kala noticed this. 'Where are you going, Dred?' She thought.
Twist woke up, finding himself in an open field. He then got angry at getting beaten by Kala again. "I can't believe she beat me again! I swear I'll get my revenge on her and the Shane brothers once and for all!" He cussed. "Oh, but you don't have to, Twist." Dred's voice came. Twist turned to see him slowly walking towards him. He was confused at what Dred said and why he said it. "Once again, you've failed to beat the Shane Gang and that Kala girl. Which I gotta admit is kinda hilarious that you got beaten by a girl." Dred said with a sinister chuckle. "But alas, there is something that I came here to do: Eliminate you!" He revealed.
He drew his blaster and fired a Grimmstone. Twist instantly dodged it. "Why are you doing this?! Why do you want to eliminate me?!" He asked in a panic. "Because I was ordered to." Dred said. "You see, Nacho and I had a little chat before this mission. He planned to get rid of you by hiring me to kill you because you have no right to be Dr. Blakk's apprentice due to your failures." He explained. Twist became so shocked that Nacho had betrayed him. "And now that you failed today's mission, I shall execute my mission. To draw out your death!"
Dred fired a Hop Jack towards Twist. But he slid out of the way and slung a Grimmstone. Dred just simply moved to the side, avoiding the ghoul and slinging a Harmashelt, bashing Twist. "Is that all you got, boy? I actually expected more." Dred said. "Well then, how about THIS?!" Twist yelled, slinging a Greneater at Dred's feet. The ghoul's tail started sizzling down to its body. But before it exploded, Dred slung another ghoul at his feet and disappeared. Twist was surprised by this familiar move. "How did you-" He started to ask. "Did you think you were the only one who has a Smugglet ghoul?" Dred asked, appearing behind him. Twist swung his fist at Dred, but he used his Smugglet to disappear again.
Just then, multiple illusions of Dred appeared and surrounded Twist. "Look at you. You once showed great potential to become Dr. Blakk's apprentice. But now you're just an everyday failure, failing to defeat the Shane Gang time after time again and again." Dred's illusions tormented. "You had every chance to do your job, but you just let your revenge get the better of you. And look where it got you. Your own brother betrayed you to help the Shanes. Your precious Loki was imprisoned into a golden statue for a few months. Kala Garcia was right. Your revenge is meaningless. Your father would be ashamed of you." Twist covered his ears and dropped to his knees. "Stop it! I'm not a failure! I'm not a failure!" He shouted, tears falling from his eyes.
Dred saw his chance as his illusion clones disappeared. He loaded a Thrasher ghoul and fired it at Twist from behind. Twist turned around and saw the Thrasher. But it was too late. The Thrasher cut off his right arm with Knawblade. Twist screamed in pain as he looked at his freshly cut arm in horror as blood oozed from the wound, staining his clothes. Loki and the other ghouls were horrified by this. They couldn't believe that a man would do this.
Twist then started to feel dizzy. He fell to the ground due to blood loss. Before losing consciousness, he saw Dred walking towards him. Dred stared down at him coldly. "You're completely useless now. And I will take your place as Blakk's apprentice." He said. He loaded his blaster and aimed at Twist's head. "Goodbye, Twist. Have a good life with your father…in the afterlife." He said coldly. "I don't want to die. Not this way. Someone please, help me. I admit my actions were meaningless." Twist said silently.
Then a miracle happened. A blaster was shot. Dred looked up and saw a Rammstone, knocking him away from Twist. "Twist!" Someone called. Twist barely glanced over his shoulder. Kala was running towards him with the Shane Gang and the Jones Quintuplets behind her. "You help Twist. We'll handle Dred." Eli said. Kala nodded and knelt down next to Twist with the Jones siblings as the others engaged Dred.
Kala held Twist's head in her hands. "Come on, Twist. Say something if you're still conscious." She begged. Twist looked up at her. He reached with other arm and touched her beautiful face. "You…saved…my life." He managed to whisper before he finally lost consciousness.
Dred managed to hold his own against the Shane Gang, who were slinging an entire barrage of their slugs out of anger. "You are a sick man, Dred! Doing this to Twist!" Lash yelled, slinging Ice. Dred got pounded with every slug they slung. He couldn't even get a single shot in. "It's over, Dred." Eli snarled. "Oh, it's far from over, Eli Shane. You'll be seeing me again." Dred assured. He tossed a smoke bomb at the ground and disappeared. "He's gone." Kord said. "But he'll be back." Harley said.
The gang and the Jones Quintuplets quickly rushed Twist to the Sandstone Hospital. As the doctors treated Twist in the operating room, Lash was traumatized to what Dred had done to his brother. "I don't understand why Dred would want to kill Twist." Kord said. "It's because Nacho planned it." Eli revealed. The gang looked at Eli in surprise along with the Jones siblings. "I saw it in my vision. I saw Nacho and Dred planning to kill Twist for his failures if he'd failed here too." Eli explained. The gang and the Jones siblings were shocked from hearing this. Nacho had ultimately betrayed Twist and Dred attempted to kill Twist for his failures, under Nacho's orders.
Just then, one of the doctors came out of the operation room. "Give it to us straight, doc. Is Twist okay?" Lash asked. "He's fine, but there's a problem. Since he lost his arm, it will need to be replaced, especially since he lost a lot of blood. Unfortunately, the operation that can save his life costs more gold than you can buy this whole resort with." The doctor explained. "That's more gold than what we have between the 5 of us." Linda said. Then Kala stood up. "My sisters and I can pay for the operation." She said. Aerona, Fareeda and Paulina nodded as they joined their sister. "And do you have any trolls working in this hospital?" Kala asked. "Of course. We have a Dr. Kurtus Zoller, works in cybernetics." The doctor said. "Then I'll request this doctor in to create a cybernetic arm for Twist to replace his right arm." Kala said. "Very well. I'll get hold of him at once." The doctor said.
Just then, another doctor came out. "Pardon the interruption, but I've analyzed Twist's blood after I ran a blood test. The blood is a direct match to the bloodline of the Jones family." The doctor revealed. Everyone was shocked to hear this. Especially the Jones Quintuplets. Lash started to think about this. 'Does this mean that Twist and I weren't related from the start? But I've known Twist my whole life. Was our father hiding Twist's true heritage from us all this time?' He thought. "I think we need to find some evidence about Twist's true heritage, so that Twist knows while he's in his coma." Aerona suggested. "Right. We should check out Twist and Lash's old home in Quisingly Cavern." Eli said. "I think we should go in a team of 7 while the rest of you stay here and watch over Twist." Kala said. "Right. Harley, the Garcias and I will go Quisingly Cavern. Lash, we'll need you too since you know where the house is." Eli said. Lash nodded. So, the 7 rode off on their mechas to Quisingly Cavern while the others stayed behind to watch over Twist with the Jones Quintuplets.
Meanwhile, at Blakk's Citadel, Dred returned. "I'm sorry, Nacho. I was unable to finish off Twist. The Shane Gang interfered." Dred said. "It doesn't matter. Twist will know never to come back here now that he knows that I betrayed him." Nacho said.
Soon enough, the 7 arrived at Quisingly Cavern. "Okay, Lash. You know the way back to your old home. You lead on." Kala said. Lash nodded and led his friends to his old house. Once they arrived, they entered the house. "Okay, spread out and look for anything that can give us a clue about Twist's true heritage." Fareeda said. The gang spread out and started searching. As they searched, Lash went over to a corner and found his father's old bedroom. He remembered that his father told him and Twist to never come inside his room when he was doing something important. But he knew much has changed since his father died. "Hey, guys? I found my father's old room!" He called. Eli, Harley and the Garcias came to the room. "Have you ever been inside that room, Lash?" Kala asked. "No. Father never let me or Twist go inside there when he was busy with something." Lash said. "I have no doubt that your father was hiding something from you and Twist." Kala said. That made Lash unease, thinking his father really did hide something from him and Twist.
Eli tried to open the door, but it was locked from the inside. "Locked. Now what?" Eli asked. "I got an idea." Kala said, bringing up Annabelle. "Annabelle, can you unlock the door for us, please?" She asked. Annabelle chirped. Kala loaded her into her blaster and slung her, passing through the door with Mysteria. Eli, Harley and Lash were impressed by that move. "Whoa! You gotta teach Spooker how to do that." Eli said. "Sure. I'll show you later." Kala said. Then there was a clink from the doorknob. The door opened with Annabelle hanging from the doorknob from the inside. "Thank you, Annabelle." Kala said, taking her slug back in her hand. Annabelle chittered, saying 'you're welcome.'
The 7 entered the bedroom of Twist and Lash's father. Aerona turned on the light. The whole bedroom was a mess. The floor was full of payment papers scattered and stacked up. And there was other stuff that was used for smuggling. "Looks like Lash's father wasn't a type for cleaning." Eli said, making the others laugh a bit. "Alright, spread out and find anything that links to Twist's true heritage." Kala said. The gang looked around the bedroom. Eli looked at the desk, picking up a few papers. Then he found a journal under the papers. He picked it up and it triggered his ability.
[Eli's Vision]
Lash's father was in Sandstone Hospital, disguised as a nurse. He had just entered the nursery, where the newborns are kept. He then spotted 6 babies, seeing that they were sextuplets. Each of them had names. Thomas, Steven, Linda, Barbara, Anneli and Joshwa, the Jones Sextuplets. Lash's father took Joshwa, the youngest sextuplet and fled the hospital without being spotted with Joshwa in his arms.
[Vision End]
When the vision ended, Eli was shocked at what he saw. "Hey, you find anything?" Harley asked. "Well, I found this." Eli said, showing Harley the journal. "I also had another vision in the past. Lash's father kidnapped a baby boy named Joshwa, the lost sixth child from the Jones family." He revealed. Harley gasped in shock. Just then, Lash and the Garcia Quadruplets came over. "What's up, guys? You find anything?" Lash asked. Eli showed them the journal. Kala took the journal, opened it and read it. She suddenly gasped in shock. "What is it, sis? What does the journal say?" Aerona asked. "It says that Lash's father was the kidnapper of the lost sixth child of the Jones family." Kala revealed. The 3 sisters gasped at that and Lash was shocked by this. He couldn't believe that his own father had kidnapped the sixth child of the Jones family. "We better head back to Sandstone Cavern and tell the others about this. That we have found evidence about Twist's true heritage." Kala said. The 7 headed back to Sandstone Cavern.
Back at the hospital, Twist started to wake up. He saw that he was in a hospital bed and there were flowers on the side. He groaned and put his hand on his forehead, but something was off. He felt something cold and metal against his forehead. He looked and saw that his right arm was a cybernetic. "My arm!" He exclaimed in shock. But then he recalled what happened. "Dred. Nacho." He lost his arm to Dred. The assassin slinger cut off his arm under Nacho's orders. Nacho had betrayed him. He was so scared that Dred tried to kill him for his failures. But then he remembered that the Shane Gang rescued him before Dred could finish him. He also remembered the beautiful face of his savior. He knew it was one of the Garcias, but he couldn't tell which one it was due to their identical faces.
Just then, the door opened. He looked and saw Kala enter. "Hey. Glad to see you're awake." Kala said. "How long was I out?" Twist asked. "3 days." Kala answered. That shocked Twist, but he brushed it off. "What about my arm?" He asked. "A cave troll doctor, who works here, made it. I was the who requested it." Kala explained. Twist looked at his cybernetic arm in silence for a while. "Why did you guys help me despite that we're enemies?" He finally asked. "It's true that we're enemies, but if you had died out there, you wouldn't be able to meet your birth family." Kala said. Twist was confused at what she said. 'I have a birth family?' He thought Kala walked over and handed him the journal. "This journal belonged to your father, a.k.a. your kidnapper." She said. "What're you talking about? How is my father a kidnapper?" Twist asked. "That journal holds the answers. Don't breakdown yet until you learn the truth of what your father had been hiding from you." Kala calmly warned.
Looking at the journal, Twist opened it and started reading.
-May 20, 2006-
My wife was in deep depression due to a miscarriage; thus, she was unable to have a child. She always wanted a child in her life, but now this happened after the doctor told my wife that she just lost her pregnancy. I tried to cheer her up, but nothing seemed to work. She had been like this for a few days now. I need to do something and make her happy again. I don't want to see her in depression for the rest of her life.
Twist felt sad that his mother had been through and he remembered her passing away after she gave birth to Lash. He turned to the second page.
-May 27, 2006-
A week ago, I heard news from Sandstone Cavern about the Jones family, a wealthy family who owns that cavern. I discovered that the wife had just given birth to 6 babies known as the Jones Sextuplets. This brought me an idea and this was also the most horrible choice I ever made in my life…I have to kidnap one of those sextuplets. Just so to make my wife happy again.
Twist was shocked that his father planned in kidnapping one of the Jones Sextuplets to make his mother happy from her depression. He turned to the third page.
-May 30, 2006-
Once I arrived in Sandstone Cavern, I headed for Sandstone Hospital and disguised myself as a nurse. I snuck in and looked around until I spotted the nursery where they kept all the newborn babies. Once I entered, I saw a few newborn babies in their cradles. Just then, I spotted the Jones Sextuplets. I went over and took a good look at them. After a while, I ended up taking the youngest sextuplet. I quickly fled out of the hospital before anyone saw me as I took the sixth child away from his birth family. How cruel of me taking this baby away from his birth family, but I had no choice…This was for my wife.
Twist couldn't believe that his father kidnapped the sixth child. His reason was to make his wife happy. That was why he kidnapped the sixth child. Twist stared to feel unease about this. So, he turned to the fourth page.
-June 3, 2006-
It's been a few days since I kidnapped the sixth child from the Jones family. Though, few days ago, my wife was so happy to have a child at long last after I showed her the sixth child. She immediately took the baby boy off my arms as she brought him into her arms. She asked me where I found him, to which I hesitated. If I told her the truth, that I kidnapped him from the Jones family, she'll be very furious for abducting him from his birth family. So, I lied to her and said that he was abandoned by his parents. That they don't want to keep him. And it worked. Seeing my wife happy again as she held the baby boy in her arms and never wanted to put him down. But I felt so much regret for abducting him from his birth family. As for his name…his real name was Joshwa Jones, but I renamed him Twist so that no one will know that he was the lost sixth child.
Twist got so shocked by this. His father was not his real father, but his kidnapper and his real name was Joshwa Jones, but renamed Twist. Now Twist started feeling more unease on what was happening. So, he turned to the fifth page.
-March 5, 2009-
3 years have passed since I abducted Twist. I was completely in depression…Several months ago, my wife passed away after she gave birth to Lash and I had trouble with payments that I was unable to pay for. I became a smuggler in order to gain money and take care of my sons. Though Twist had been taking care of Lash ever since my wife passed away. They became so close, it was like they were actual brothers, but not blood related. As Twist grew up, I can see a strong resemblance of his real father. I wanted to tell him the truth, but I can't cause conflict between me and Twist if I tell him the truth. I also wanted to return him to his birth family, but if I did…they will judge me for kidnapping him and I would be thrown in jail for the rest of my life…
Overwhelmed by the truth, Twist began to breakdown. But he holds onto it as he goes to the last page.
-September 29, 2018-
It's been 12 years…It's been a very long time since I wrote in this journal and I knew this day would come. A few days ago, I had a dream about the day I kidnapped Twist from his birth family in the past, and then I saw the future of Twist taking revenge on the Shanes for not saving my life from my death. That was when I realized that my life was coming to an end. The Night Shadow had cursed me for everything I've done as it watched me everywhere in the shadows. This meant that I won't be able to tell Twist the truth about his birth family, the Jones family…It's all over for me now…I accept my fate and I'm ready to face my punishment at the wings of the Night Shadow.
Twist was now speechless. His kidnapper knew his death was coming for him through his dream because he was cursed by the Night Shadow for everything he had done in the past and he was unable to tell him the truth about his birth family. Just then, Twist noticed a note at the bottom of the last page. He started to read it.
Twist, if you're reading this, it means you finally found the truth about your true heritage. I want you to go find your birth family. Once you find them, adopt Lash to be part of your birth family. And also…give up your revenge on the Shanes. I am to blame for all of this…I should have told you the truth, but it was too late. I twisted you into a criminal. So, please join the Shanes and start over again, to fight alongside them. No holding a grudge against the Shanes…because I am not your father. But I felt like I was your real father, but not by blood. Take care, Twist…no. Joshwa Jones. That is your real name. And please, take care of Lash and forgive me for everything I've done. Goodbye…son.
After reading it, Twist finally broke down and started crying in regret. His whole life, his father, his kidnapper took him away from his birth family just to make his wife happy. Him and Lash were not related from the very start and he found the truth about his true heritage as the long-lost sixth child of the Jones family, part of the Jones Sextuplets and his real name was Joshwa Jones.
Kala sat close to Twist and brought him into a hug. "I'm sorry… for everything I've done in the past." Twist whispered as he hugged back. "I want to make up for everything." He said, deciding to let go his revenge and start down the road to redemption.
Later, Kala headed down to meet with her sisters and the rest of the gang. Twist, having been officially discharged, followed close behind her. "Are you sure you're ready to face the gang, Twist?" Kala asked. "I'm sure. I've decided that it's time to make up for my betrayal. Especially, to Lash." Twist said. He then looked at Kala. "It was you, wasn't it?" He asked. "What?" Kala asked, confused. "Were you the one that rescued me from Dred?" Twist asked. "Yes. It was me. I saved you from being killed by Dred." Kala said. And then surprisingly, Twist brought Kala into a hug. "Thank you." He whispered. Kala smiled and hugged him back. Little did they know, there were people watching them, thinking they were a cute couple. A bit embarrassed, Kala broke the hug. "You're welcome." She said with a smile. Twist felt his face burn up and realized he was blushing. Seeing Kala smile made her look beautiful. He smiled back and they continued their way to meet up with the gang.
They met up with the gang and Twist began his apology. "I am so, so, so sorry for everything I've done in the past. Even for my betrayal." He apologized. "We already know about your true heritage, Twist." Vance said. "We learned about it from the baby records here." Dana said. "Also, we forgive you. We always have." Harley said. Twist looked at Shimei. "And Shimei, I'm sorry about what happened to your grandmother. I distracted her long enough for Blakk to take the shot that killed her." He said with regret. "Do not blame yourself, Twist. It is Dr. Blakk who rightfully to blame. For he was the one who took the shot." Shimei said. Twist smiled, knowing he was forgiven.
The gang and Twist then headed for the home of the Jones family. Twist decided it was finally time to meet his birth family. Soon, they arrived at the Jones family home. The place was a huge luxurious mansion, almost like a castle. And there, waiting at the entrance, were the Jones Quintuplets and their parents, Mr. and Mrs. Jones. Twist felt nervous. This is moment he would meet his true family. Eli put a comforting hand on his shoulder. "Hey. It'll be alright. We're all right behind you." He assured with a smile. The gang all smiled too. Twist smiled back. Then he took a deep breath and walked to the entrance.
Mrs. Jones was the first to step forth. She cupped Twist's cheek, taking a good long look at his face. Then she started to tear up with happiness, seeing her lost sixth child had finally returned after all these years. Twist teared up too, happy to see his birth mother at long last. The 2 then embraced each other in a big, long, tight, emotional hug. Twist looked up from the hug, seeing Mr. Jones staring at him. His eyes teared with happiness too as he joined in the embrace. The quintuplets were all very happy by this sight. Twist looked at them and motioned them to join in. Linda, Barbara and Anneli ran into the hug first. Thomas and Steven walked over and joined in. The whole family dropped to their knees, happy to be reunited at last. "We're really happy for you, Twist." Eli said as he and the others looked on with happiness. "No. My name isn't Twist anymore. My real name is Joshwa Jones. But you can call me Josh for short if you want." Twist, now named as Joshwa said.
4 days later, it was time for the gang to leave. They packed up their luggage and were picking up their pets from the Pet Hotel. But then Eli and Harley noticed Bella looking hesitant. "What's wrong, Bella? Don't you wanna go home?" Eli asked. Bella lifted her paw, revealing a little Slug Hound puppy. "Is th-th-that…a-a-a Slug Hound?" Harley asked, feeling his cynophobia kicking in. "Relax, Harley. It's only a puppy." Eli said. "A disowned puppy at that, unfortunately." Bella's caretaker said. "Disowned?" Eli asked. "Yes. You see, this little pup is actually a newborn. But his mother rejected him for the rest of the litter." The caretaker explained. Eli felt his heart break for the little pup. Bella nuzzled him as if she had just asked a question. Eli smiled and petted her head. "Of course, he can come with us. I'm not one to separate a mother from her child." He said. The puppy yipped with happiness, hopped into Eli's lap and licked him and his new mother. "Welcome to the family, Boötes." Eli said.
Just as they were about to leave, Joshwa and his 5 siblings came up to them. "Hey, guys." Joshwa said. "What's up, Josh?" Trixie asked. "Well, I have a couple requests to make for you guys." Joshwa said. "What's the first request?" Dana asked. "I want to rejoin the Shane Gang. Help make up for everything." Joshwa said. "And we welcome you back, Josh." Eli said, almost immediately. "Yeah, you were always welcome back in the gang, dude." Harley added. The others agreed. That made Joshwa happy. "Thanks guys. But it's too soon for me to rejoin you." He said suddenly. "I'm gonna stay here for a bit longer and know a bit more about my birth family since I've only known them for only 4 days." Joshwa explained. The gang understood this. "We'll be sure to call you if we need you. And your siblings too." Eli said, holding out his hand. Joshwa immediately accepted it as they shared a friendly hand shake. The gang smiled, seeing that the man they once knew as Twist was on his way to redemption.
Harley thought about what Wizard told him. He was right. Twist had redeemed himself, and began to go by his real name, Joshwa Jones. But then his thoughts went to Deagan. His vision of Deagan being beaten up in a bloody way and his throat being slit by Dred. That vision made him shiver, knowing that they had to do something to change that future. But then he thought about the last vision he had about Deagan. About how he was being strangled to death. He started to think that that vision was false because the future was changing already with Joshwa's redemption.
"What's the second request?" Kala asked, interrupting Harley's thoughts. "I want to adopt Lash to be part of my birth family." Joshwa said. The gang was shocked to hear this, especially Lash. "But why?" Lash asked. "I found a note left by your father, my kidnapper, at the end of his journal. He requested that I adopt you as part of my birth family once I found them because he didn't want you to be all alone without a family." Joshwa explained. His siblings walked up to join him. "We accept your request, Joshwa." Thomas said. "We would be honored to have you as part of our family, Lash." Steven said. "You're gonna be a great little brother." Linda said. "And we know we can make you happy." Barbara said. "What do you say, Lash?" Anneli asked. Lash was very touched by this. He ran up to the sextuplets and embraced them in a big group hug as Lash becomes part of the Jones family as the new family member.
And with that, the gang said goodbye to their new allies and friends as the gang left Sandstone Cavern.
Meanwhile, at Blakk's Citadel, Nacho was handing out assignments and missions to his troops. Dred stood next to him. Once the assignments and missions were handed out, everyone turned to leave. Except for Deagan. "Uh, Nacho? Where's Twist? I haven't seen him for a week since the Sandstone Cavern invasion ended in failure with the Shane Gang." He asked. "Twist has been fired due to his recent failure today. Dred will be replacing him as Blakk's new apprentice." Nacho lied. Deagan was shocked to hear this. He was about to ask another question. "That's enough questions, Por, or I'll slit your throat." Dred said, cold and threateningly. Deagan's spine shivered up in fear and went quiet. "Now leave, Deagan. I need to speak with Dred privately." Nacho said. With no other words to say, and not wanting to be threatened by Dred, Deagan turned and walked out.
"Alright. Who's my next eliminate?" Dred asked. "Deagan's your next eliminate." Nacho replied darkly. "I've grown sick and tired of his obsession with those wretched Infurnuses. So, I want you to kill Deagan and draw his blood. I want you to stalk Deagan during his next mission. Once he fails…kill him." "With pleasure. And this time, I'll make sure he stays dead." Dred said.
Little did they know, Deagan was actually listening in on their conversation. He was shocked from what he heard. Dred was going to hunt him like an Ice Ogre after an injured Flaringo. He had to be careful from now on.
Boy. That was the longest chapter I've ever written for this story. Well, how was that? Did that surprise everyone? The Shane Gang go on vacation in Sandstone Cavern and meet the Jones Quintuplets. Nacho hires an assassin named Dred to kill Twist for his past failures. And Twist learns about his true heritage and retakes his true name, Joshwa Jones. Bella also adopted a Slug Hound puppy named Boötes. What else will await the Shane Gang in the future? What will Dred have planned for Deagan's death? Leave a review if you want.
