A/N: Sorry for the delayed update. It's been rough with school, but will hopefully get better soon. Apologies in advance if there's any mistakes. It's 4am here and insomnia is a bitch. Fair warning, time jump in this chapter. I realized I couldn't go ahead with my plans for this story with them at their currents ages. It's not time travel though. Hope you like it.
Chapter Five
Kylie's heart had not stopped racing from the moment they were taken, and it showed no sign of slowing down. Harry buzzed with anxious energy, but he thought the threat was over. It most certainly wasn't.
Remus was talking with Professor Snape looking upset when they entered.
"You! Out now." Kylie said pointing at him. Remus groaned. "Kylie you can't-
"Remus." Kylie whispered and he looked at her more clearly.
"Severus we'll discuss this later. I'll reach out."
Snape closed his eyes. "There isn't much time, Remus. Remember that."
He walked past them, and Harry caught a whiff of a strange cologne. Kylie ran up to Remus and hugged him.
"I was taken by some man that lives in the forest. Hermione and I were running, and he grabbed us like he knew we would be there. Hermione broke her leg horribly and he did something to me. Something's not right, but I don't know what."
Remus pushed her back and looked her over. "Does anything hurt?"
"Not really, I'm still having a lot of adrenaline."
Remus tilted her neck and saw a puncture would like a snake might make.
He waved his hand showing a rendering of her magical energy.
"How did you do that?" Harry demanded eyes narrowing.
"You aren't the only ones learning new things."
"It all looks fine, Kylie. Is there anything specific that feels wrong?"
"My hips are hurting now."
Kylie lowered her skirt on one side slightly and saw an enormous bruise. The other side was the same a worrying deep purple. She looked down at her arms and legs. Bruises on her wrists and ankles as well.
"Remus? I don't understand. I don't remember getting these."
Kylie told them both exactly what she remembered which amounted to not much. The entire experience was a blank until Harry came.
"Kylie let's have Poppy look you over. Come on." Remus said neutrally. There was a furious glint in his eye, but Kylie was trying to force herself to remember.
Harry was confused when Remus forbid him from going to her side for the exam. Remus explained what was being checked for with thin lips and Harry blinked.
"I don't understand. You think someone did what?"
"Do you know what sex is Harry?"
Harry frowned. "I suppose. I heard Vernon and Petunia enough. She cried and he grunted. That's about it."
Remus turned a little green. "It is more involved in that."
Harry listened sort of intrigued by it.
"So what does this have to do with Kylie?"
"Some one may have done that to her against her will. That is why you couldn't be in there. As close as you are I don't think it would be a good idea for either of you."
It still didn't click for Harry. "How would they do it against her will?"
Remus cocked his head. "You saw the bruises. By force Harry. But we don't know for sure yet."
"How will we know? She doesn't remember."
"Harry are you being intentionally slow? Poppy is checking her private parts to see if someone has hurt her there."
It made sense then.
"Well if it's true that person will die. Horribly. Nothing could stop me, Remus. They might die anyway."
Poppy came back with a relieved but sad look.
"No assault of that nature. I am worried of the puncture wounds though. I sent off bloodwork to St. Mungos because I don't have the ability to analyze here. We'll know if they took blood or if they gave her something."
"I am not Hermione's guardian, but they were together, and she was hurt more." Remus said as if suggesting something."
Poppy nodded. "They both escaped it. I am not sure how she broke her leg. It isn't something that could have happened in a simple fall. It's broken in multiple places, almost shattered. Remus, do these potters have secrets? They kind Kylie might give away if someone was hurting Hermione?"
Harry knew the answer instantly.
"Remus."
"Harry, what have you guys done?"
"DO NOT accuse me of things. There could be any number of secrets as you call them. Majority of them you know Remus. There are things only I know, and so on for Kylie and Duds I'm sure." Harry turned to Poppy. "What reasons could they want her blood for?"
"Blood magic for one. To control her and those related to her. On another level they could use it for rituals if they suspect it has some unique property."
Harry's mind whirred for a moment.
"Can you get me an exact age for Kylie. Day month and year?"
Poppy frowned. "I have her birthday as February 12th of 1980."
"We just put that because we knew it was 1980." Harry urged her to go check, his impatience eliminating his manners.
"July 31st 1980." Poppy said giving him what he supposed was meant to be chastising.
"That is my birthday. Time?"
"5:36 am. Harry what is-
"Elf!"
The new elf beamed at being called. "I will have to name you hastily. How do you like Bree?"
"That is wonderful, Master Harry."
"You don't need to use master, Bree. I need you to retrieve my birth certificate from my vaults."
"Certainly, Harry."
The certificate had a nearly identical time with only a two minute difference printed in black and white.
The next two hours a series of diagnostic charms were cast on each of the Potters.
Remus waited with bated breath; something fleeting on the back of his mind.
Vernon Dursley was not Duds father, nor Kylie's. The three Potter's looked at their mentor with something akin to helplessness. Poppy cast a charm to display the biological parents of each of them.
James Potter…..Lily Evans…..Petunia Evans…..
"I'm very sure that you cannot physically have three parents!" Kylie hissed at Poppy. Remus was too lost to chastise her. Not that it would have been headed.
"I…don't understand. You aren't wrong, Kylie." Poppy waved her wand again and again but the results displayed the same way.
"Some one needs to make this make sense." Harry muttered with heat.
Duds spoke up. "Harry, we found Kylie in the crawl space. Her birthday is the same as yours. Maybe Mum had trouble conceiving and used magical help from your mum. Is it reading her magical signature?"
Poppy's lips parted just a smidge. "Well, that might be so. I…must outsource this. I just don't have the necessary experience and it will be someone I trust as it is forbidden to help muggles with the matter of conception."
Remus had a flash of admiration for Poppy. It took a wise woman to admit to being out of depth. The potters had objections in an instant.
"That will not be happening. You can get the experience."
Kylie and Duds nodded their agreement with Harry.
Poppy looked at them bemused. "You do realize that learning healing takes years of work?"
"Do it faster then." Kylie said waving her hand.
"Miss Potter! Do not-
"Don't what? Advocate for myself? I don't want some snooty healer digging into my past and asking tons of questions. I don't want them trying to force me into things I don't want. None of us do."
Poppy pursed her lips struggling to find a way around her logic.
"You didn't know you could trust Poppy until you did, though. Why would this be different?" Remus tested the waters with his suggestion.
Kylie glared at him. "She is around kids. She works in a fucking school! No one that isn't around kids all the time will listen to us. Adults think they walk on water because they've not been unalive as long."
Remus did not know what to say to that. Not been unalive…?
"Kylie, it will be someone I trust very much. She has kids herself and primarily heals children."
"No."
"Why am I always arguing with you three!" Poppy through up her hands.
"I don't know. Why do you?"
Poppy whipped around to look at Harry with a glare.
"I refuse. Find your own healer." She bluffed.
The three Potters smirked.
"Seriously? That's rather juvenile. We all know you are a better woman and healer than that. Three poor orphans all alone and hurting…" Kylie said and pouted her lips.
"I'm going to my office." Poppy said mustering some patience.
"No more than two glasses of Gin, Poppy. Can't have shaky hands working on my best friend." Kylie said with an edge.
Poppy slammed her office door shut.
A few minutes later a cat Patronus soared into the room, shrieking for help.
Remus could barely make out the location and when the Patronus faded away he was unsure.
The potters were gone.
"DAMNIT!" He swore and walked out of the wing. He wished he had that knack of knowing where they were at any time.
Harry felt a sense of déjà vu settle over him. That made sense because we were back in the cave, he found Kylie in. Duds was lying next to him…bleeding.
"Dud?! Are you okay?" Harry knelt to his level and saw his forehead split open. The amount of blood was horrifying. He put as much strength as he dared into healing it, but he knew to get out of there he would need an enormous amount of reserve.
Kylie groaned from over in the corner holding her wrist out. Broken.
"Minerva?!" Harry called.
"Mr. Potter! I did not give you permission to use my name." A sleep voice came from the grate.
"Bree!"
"Harry, why do you keep getting yourself in trouble? Honestly." Bree chastised and apparated Minerva up to the level of the Potters.
"Oh dear, is he alright?"
"I think so. Head wounds bleed more than others." Harry said absentmindedly. He hadn't noticed it before but there was a glamour on the cave wall.
"Can you do any wandless magic?" Harry whispered to her.
"Not much."
"Examples?"
"Lumos, accio, simple things Harry. I'm no sorceress."
"You are going to focus on your happiest memory and try and conjure your Patronus again."
"Again? I never sent a Patronus."
An enormous blast caused debris to cave onto them and Duds shielded Kylie whilst Harry covered his Professor. The air was suddenly too warm and his eyes drifted closed.
Remus was haggard with fear and exhaustion. He couldn't find them. Minerva and the three Potter's were gone. He hadn't realized how much they had become a part of his life until they were gone. Why the fuck hadn't he asked where Kylie was taken?
Remus searched the grounds day and night for three weeks. Even in his Animagus form he could not scent any of them. He resigned from his position as D.A.D.A professor. He couldn't focus or sleep knowing they were missing…maybe even dead. He paid a small fortune to try and track the cores of their wands as every underage witch and wizard had the trace. It turned up with nothing.
He was desperate. Worse than that, Hermione fell into a coma and would not wake. Kylie's blood test came back shortly, and they had injected her with an unknown toxin. Hermione as well which everyone suspected was the cause for her coma.
Remus stayed in the wing with her often, the last link he had to them. Draco came most of the time, taking some time off to adjust. Remus knew he and Harry were close and he remembered young love. Remus thought he was holding it together better than he was. Minvera was missed terribly, and Albus even showed signs of distress at their absence.
Three weeks turned into eight and slowly Remus lost hope.
Christmas came and went. He couldn't bear to leave Hogwarts incase they miraculously returned. Every morning he scoured the grounds until forcing a sleeping potion down his throat. His tiger form was restless, so he often didn't transform.
Draco stayed over for the hols and Remus made more of an effort to talk with him.
Spring came and went.
Then summer burned hot, and Remus had no hope left. No purpose either.
He tried to track down Harry's elf multiple times, but he suspected she was dead or with them unable to answer.
Eventually he spent some time back at Harry's inherited house. He didn't enter their room for weeks, unable to bear it.
A small part of him thought they abandoned him. How foolish was that? A grown man feeling abandoned by orphans.
Whilst he knew it would amount to nothing, he studied every aspect of magical tracking. Every written or oral report of animagus bonding found its way into his possession.
Albus moved on. He had too and he was a much stronger man than Remus could ever be.
"Harry, Kylie, Duds….I wish I had made this clear before. I love you three as my own. I should have been better. Done more for you. I love you and miss you."
He was nearly to the end of a bottle of whiskey at this point.
It did the trick mixed with a sleeping potion. That night he slept in their bed like a baby.
Harry and Kylies birthday 15th approached. As midnight approached Remus realized the reality that they were never coming back. If they were dead their bodies were rotting somewhere. Who knows the pain they might have gone through. He couldn't think about it.
Midnight struck the clock. Maybe it was foolish but he made a cake from scratch and placed a candle for Kylie and Harry, and then added one for Duds too. They were four years older.
He lit the candles and his eyes watered realizing he would need to blow them out. He closed his eyes and wished with his entire being that they would come home.
He blew out the candle.
And nothing happened. The wax dropped onto the cake and anger overtook him. He threw the glass pan cake and all, across the room. It smashed into the tv from the strength of his throw. He couldn't stop once the dam broke. He destroyed everything in sight, screaming.
"Come back! Please, come back." He knelt into the broken glass.
How was he supposed to forget them?
Harry gasped in a breath; his lungs pained. He shot upright, looking for Kylie and Duds.
They were in beds beside his. They looked older! He looked down at himself touching his body.
He was in a scrub uniform used by nurses with bare feet.
The room they were in was pristine, like a doctor's office. There was what looked like medical equipment in various parts of the room.
There was a mirror on the opposite wall and he walked over on shaky legs.
Holy shit. He looked like a fully grown teenager. He cast the age detection spell and it read 15 years old.
He shook Kylie who sucked in a ragged breath.
"Kylie!"
Duds woke beside them and for a while they huddled close and held each other.
"We've aged. Magically or it's been a long time we've been gone."
"I remember the cave collapsing. Oh my god what if we have been gone years! Remus and Hermione….Draco Harry!"
Harry felt his eyes sting thinking of them all. The room they were in had no obvious door.
"Kylie do you remember the spell to find out the date?"
July 31st 12:09 am 1995 A.C.E
None of them could even begin to accept that.
"Does everyone feel okay physically?" Harry whispered. His own voice was unrecognizable. Deeper and cracking.
"Yes. I'm starving though." Duds said with a trembling voice.
"Start feeling the walls and see where the door is." Harry instructed and they began. Kylie found the door first and it opened to some sort of muggle ship. Harry couldn't say how he knew, but maybe from movies. It looked like they were on a space ship. Like in Star Trek.
Duds came to the same conclusion though Kylie had yet to watched them.
They soon found an observatory and Kylie began hyperventilating. They were in space. Space.
"Can we apparate through space, Kylie?" Harry whispered.
"There must be a way. Can you feel Remus?"
Harry closed his eyes trying to find his familiar thread of magic.
"I can. He's in our house. What if the lack of connection to the earth stops us from apparating midway and we suffocate in space? It's been four years; we could be so far from earth."
"Then we need to find who brought us here and watch them."
Wordlessly they fell into silence. Their footsteps lightened and they moved throughout the ship until a voice was heard.
"It's nearly time to wake them, My lord. You will have your body soon."
The voice was male but unfamiliar.
"Yes, Quirrell, I am aware of the date. Peter, fetch me some water."
"Yes my lord." A meek frightened voice said.
"Do you think he will really sacrifice his arm for you?" Quirrell asked curiously.
"Yes. He is too frightened to do otherwise. He annoys me anyhow."
"He's untrustworthy. Betrayed his only friends. I suspect there is a reason his animagus is a rat, my lord."
"Of course, there is. It's why I sought him out and threatened him. He is weak and pathetic. But useful for now."
"We've been circling the earth for four years now, my lord. We have no idea how earth has faired in our absence. You feel confident your father's grave is untouched?"
"Four years is not even a life time. He is there. And the potters are nearly matured. Kylie already is, but I need them all. With their blood I will have and indestructible body and then consume their powers. Then the world will become mine and we will rule as our kind should have always done. I can see it within my grasp, Quirrell."
"As can I my lord."
"We are almost out of rations though. May I have permission beam onto earth for a restock?"
"Very well. No more than 24 hours. I cannot risk you not returning. You are invaluable to me, Quirrell."
"You honor me, My lord."
Harry wrinkled his nose as the blush in his voice. Kylie was still the smallest so she peered around the corner to look. Her mouth dropped open and she twisted back around. Harry dared next and nearly vomited. Whatever that thing was it was clear why it needed a body.
"I will return." Quirrell left as Peter returned with water.
The Potters held their breath as he turned down the hall. Their surveillance of the ship so far made them aware they couldn't meet him around the other direction, so they had to follow directly. He didn't go far, the meeting room was in the center of the ship. He went down twenty feet or so and pressed his hand on a door. A contraption with a stage was the only thing in the room and he apparated from there but it had lights.
Once he was gone they entered the room.
"Can we go at once, or…"
"We need to go one at a time. We know that much is safe. Our meeting place will be home if we are separated. I love you guys." Duds said tearing up.
They embraced and Kylie went first. The moment she stood as Quirrell had she lit up and was gone. Duds hurried after her and Harry as well.
They exhaled with relief at appearing with each other.
"Point me Remus." Harry whispered, looking around the park they arrived in. It wasn't familiar and it looked muggle based on the clothes people were wearing.
The point me said 200 miles west.
"Let's just try finding him as we always did." Harry suggested.
They huddled together and apparated.
Their house brought back a huge rush of nostalgia and they house was destroyed. A birthday cake was splattered all over the living room and kitchen. And there was their mentor in a black among the glass.
"He got so gray!" Kylie exclaimed. It was now three am, so they cleaned up the house and got Remus into bed. Like they were just kids they curled around him in their Animagus forms and slept.
Remus woke warm and shot up from his slumber.
He was hallucinating. He had to be.
"Harry? Kylie? Duds?" He whispered.
They woke and he sobbed.
"Wolfman calm down. We've not been abducted for that long."
He ripped Kylie into his arms.
After hours of sobbing and explanation they deduced the thing that took them was Voldemort.
They journeyed to Hogwarts and endured more sobbing from Poppy.
The hospital wing door opened and Draco Malfoy entered.
"H…Harry?" He whispered.
Harry turned around with a clenching heart. Oh lord he was beautiful. How could a person be so beautiful?
Harry ran to him and wrapped him in a tight hug.
"I'm so sorry. I was taken and put into a coma. I'm sorry."
Kylie asked Poppy about Hermione who explained somberly that she'd been in a coma as well and was moved to St. Mungos for long term treatment.
She turned around to see Harry embracing Draco and then they were kissing.
She heard Draco whisper. "I could never see anyone like I did you. I've missed you so much Harry."
It was too much for her heart to bear and she used the direct floo to go see Hermione.
The receptionist was helpful with directions. There was no one in the room when she entered. Hermione had truly grown into her beauty.
At one point Kylie knew even if they wouldn't fall in love, she would still never find someone. They were too close for that.
She touched Hermione silky hair and kissed her forehead.
"Come back to me."
And then she waited.
A/N: The space was a tough decision, but my mind simply could not come up with another explanation for the failing of magical tracing on minors. Or nothing seemed right. Magical tracing to me only exists within the earth, and uses the magical energy of all magical folk to work. So in space was somewhere the trace could not detect. And I may or may not have just binged the star trek movies with Chris Pine. They are wonderful. As of now it will not be a vital aspect...unless that sounds cool? More updates soon- Mayajane.
