The Fall Festival had been in full swing when Arianna was contacted by the security of the hay maze.

Apparently a calf had wandered inside and lost its way out, so, since she was the map planner of the thing, she knew better than everyone else how to get it out.
(The fact that there was a watchtower made just for situations like this, but with people in mind, was completely ignored by her coworkers in favor of involving her. All because of the joke.)

You see, ever since Arianna had become one of the organizer of the Fall Festival and it had been known that she was an architect, the whole council hell-bent on her role as maze planner. And she was capable! In fact her mazes had been the best in living memory, but it had all started due to The Joke of Theseus, the Labyrinth and Arianna's string.

So, since her coworkers were asses and saw the opportunity to take things a step further, Arianna was involved in the hunt of the calf codenamed "Minotaur".

The guy from the watchtower directed them to the last place it had been seen, then Arianna and a couple of security guards separated to start the chase.
For all the jokes purposely made by others, the architect did find the calf first… but what no one had either noticed or had deliberately left out was that the beastie was a ghost.

Its fur was fawn-reddish, making it near-indistinguishable from the hay bales. Moreover, the specter was shy, so it dived into the hay almost as soon as it saw her.

This was how Arianna passed her afternoon, directing the other two to herd the spirit out of the maze. There were many bloopers, such as visitors accidentally scaring off the calf, people being run over by either the guards or the target itself and getting jump-scared by whoever sudden appearances.

However, at last, Arianna managed to "corner" the specter. Since they hadn't been able to guide the calf out, maybe if she reassured the little cow, it would follow her outside. Thus, the woman calmly approached the youngling with soft words and a smile, talking to is as if it was a lost child (which… was pretty accurate from a certain point of view).

The strategy seemed to work, because it let her come near then pet it after a while. Slowly (after ordering to make way and keep the visitors away from the path they would use), Arianna coaxed the baby cow to follow her side-by-side, reassuring it whenever an unexpected noise would almost startle it.

Nearly three hours since the start of the chase, the ghostly calf finally exited from the maze, only for the four of them (Arianna, the specter and the two guards) to come face to face with a skyscraper of a ghost: the ectoplasmic entity stood tall over the hay bales (how didn't they notice her was a mystery), all four arms crossed and she was staring severely at them.

However the baby spirit wasn't intimidated at all and mooed enthusiastically at the other's appearance, running to her feet and hopping around her like a kid on a sugar rush.

β€’ Phantom! β€’ The titanic ghost called thunderously, summoning the protector of Amity Park in a flash, who floated beside her shoulder as if this was normal. (But maybe it was. Arianna vaguely recollected seeing her in the news once.) β€’ These humans were able to retrieve my golden calf. No need to search for him further. β€’ She leaned down to let the tiny spirit (in comparison to her) climb on her hand.

β€’ That's a relief! It would have been a pain to scavenge all the maze! Thank you! β€’ Phantom smiled brightly, prompting the architect to mirror him. It was infectious.

β€’ With everything you do for us, if we managed to help you, even if unknowingly, it's been a pleasure. β€’ Arianna meant it, since not even a month ago the ghost teen had saved her niece.
This was the least she could do.

β€’ You have my thanks humans, this little one has a passion for labyrinths. β€’ The gargantuan Greek-looking spirit smiled fondly at the little bull. β€’ He was looking for seeing Amity's maze, after Phantom sang praises of the past ones. After seeing the map from above, I concur: given the mortal tools at disposal, this installment is magnificent. Who designed it?

β€’ …That was me. My name is Arianna and I'm an architect. β€’ The woman answered, after a hesitation, but her fears were unnecessary: the four-armed warrior lit up in (controlled) glee and proceeded to review her techniques with her, adding a few tricks from her experience.

The women's chat was moved to a corner of the plaza that hosted the maze, to let the visitors and the security to continue the Fall Festival. As Arianna and Lady Pandora (as she later remember) bonded, the calf and Phantom were allowed to visit together (it was mandatory) the maze in order not to lose themselves.

All in all, this hasn't been a bad day after all. Arianna though later in the night, after everyone had departed and the Festival had closed for the day.
She hoped to see Pandora again next year, to show her the new maze she was going to design.

A/N. This had been hard to develop, I mean, I had this idea from the start, but the actual writing process had been a bit hard due to a bit of Writer Block and RL stuff.
I hope to get next prompt on time tomorrow because it has similar issues… Wish me luck!
