Musashi sighed for the nth time that day, as she accompanied the curator of Amity Park Museum to the "Nescient Sun" Expo, where she had allowed her family heirloom to be exposed.
There was nothing wrong with the visit per se, on the contrary, it was going great! But she couldn't help to worry for her husband Kojiro and their "pets" (read: companions).
They didn't cope well when being left alone by themselves, so she had to see quickly how the golden coin had been shown off, in order to come back to them.
After an attentive fast look, the woman thanked the curator, took a picture of the ensemble, then practically fled at a leisurely pace (she had class, after all) to get back to their hotel room.
Her boys had assured her that they would only watch the TV, but Kaze¹* had had a mischievous glint in his eyes, so she couldn't really trust him. And Kojiro was a faint-hearted guy, if Sonans²* wasn't a doormat himself, the latter would have already walked over the former like the others did all the times.
So. Time to go and check them.
Musashi knew as soon as she stepped out of the building that there was something afoot. Wind had picked up and there were people talking worriedly to one another, looking around in apprehension.
Kazeeeeeeeeeeeee…!
Musashi marched straight to the nearest group and sweetly asked for info, pleasing them enough that they felt at ease to reveal her what was that all about: apparently one of the local superheroes was having trouble dealing with a newcomer, making people worried for both his wellbeing and the town property.
The Asian magenta long-haired woman kindly thanked them (after asking for which area of the town to "avoid"), then she sneaked away to run towards the very same area where the disaster was happening. She was so cutting Kaze's snack budget after this…!
As soon as she reached the market, Musashi briefly stopped, taking in the scene: a boy (not much older that the twerp she dealt with on daily basis back home as the high school nurse) was sprawled on the ground, as another person (as tall as the Asian woman's armpit, really, probably a girl given the physique) clad in white and cyan with the face hidden by a helmet, literally shielded him with a green wall against a whirlwind.
Both teens (if she considered the armored gal as one, anyway) were covered in slashes that oddly didn't bleed.
‒ Phantom, get up! The cuts are not that bad! ‒ The helmet wearing vigilante was definitely a girl, given her voice and bossiness (that kind of reminded Musashi of the twerp's girlfriend…). Maybe this lass could stop the twister before the woman effectively reached them, if she used the right words… ‒ And you, stop! What the heck are you doing?! What do you want?! ‒ The girl roared, making the mini-tornado jump and stop rotating abruptly, revealing a weasel-cat looking animal with long sharp talons that looked like scythes.
The creature was sweating bullets (as he should) and seemed ready to flee, but now Musashi was near enough to be heard without the wind noise. ‒ Kaze! If you know what's better for you, you'll stay right where you are!
The weasel-cat's soul seemed ready to ascend and cross to the Far End, but with Musashi stomping toward him, he appeared rooted to the ground.
The teenager on the pavement (wow, look at that pretty white hair!) sat up swiftly, looking attentive among Musashi, Kaze and the cyan-white clad girl. His hands rested on the knees of his crossed legs and he looked curious.
‒ Ma'm, is this entity yours? ‒ He asked, floating up to put his feet on the concrete. Musashi didn't bat an eye at the power display, she had seen worse.
‒ Considering that this kamaitachi is my ward, yes. ‒ The magenta haired woman reached them and scowled at her friend. ‒ You little shit, you promised to watch the TV along with Kojiro and the others! What the hell are you doing here, causing havoc? ‒ She put her dands on her hips.
‒ …I wa' hungry. ‒ Kaze grumbled. ‒ And Kojiro said I could get a snack! Da granny didn't want to giv' me da donuts! ‒ The kamaitachi pointed accusingly to a nearby stand full of sugary pastries and an old woman who was looking at the supernatural being with a "taking no BS" gaze.
‒ You didn't ask, you just tried to steal one box full of them. ‒ The granny retorted, severely. ‒ I don't have any issue in feeding anyone, as long as they don't shoplift my products.
‒ Nyarth… ‒ Musashi's nickname for the kamaitachi dripped with threat of body-violence, but she was stopped (luckily) by the white haired teenager.
‒ Woah, there! If this was just a misunderstanding, it can all be solved! ‒ He fished into one of his pockets (which hadn't been there before) getting a couple of scrunched up bills. The twerp-wannabe grimaced at the sight. ‒ I could get him two donuts?
‒ Phantom. ‒ The other superpowered teenager sighed exasperated, pushing down his hands to hide the notes, after dropping the green shield. ‒ You'll only reward his behavior like this! This is why you can't decently train Cujo!
‒ But maybe he's cranky just because he's hungry! ‒ Phantom protested, making Musashi groan in frustration.
‒ While that is true, he also knows better than attack people in broad daylight, above all overpowered twerps! He should have known better after the "normal" ones we have at home. ‒ Musashi pointed out, now a bit less incensed. The duo spluttered in the background at being called "twerps", but went ignored.
‒ But people her' are fine with ghosts! ‒ The kamaitachi pointed to the teenagers, who were, as a matter of fact, glowing and slightly floating.
‒ Still! You attacked them! ‒ The woman countered.
Before things could escalate further, a shout rang through the market and a man with lilac hair busted in, stopping beside Musashi and breathing hard.
On his right shoulder hang a spirit linked to a funerary mask that held on for dear afterlife and on the left there was a possessed fūrin³* that chimed worriedly, while tied on his back like a rucksack a dog-sized Okiagari-koboshi doll⁴* that looked a little green with motion-sickness.
‒ Musashi! Thank Kami you found him! I was taking a toilet break and when I got out, Kaze wasn't there anymore! ‒ The man seemed to calm down now that they were all reunited.
‒ Where's Habunake? ‒ The magenta haired woman looked around wearily. Her pet venomous snake wasn't ideal in a populated area since Kojiro had brought every other one of their companions.
‒ She seemed content to stay in her heated glass-case, so I left her there. ‒ He reassured his partner. ‒ Nyarth, why did you run off? I was going to get you a donut after the break! ‒ He whined. (See? Faint-hearted.)
‒ Ya were takin' too long! ‒ The yōkai huffed, crossing his arms while minding the talons.
The couple sighed in resignation. Being the miko⁵* in charge of these walking disasters was a tough duty. What had Musashi done in her previous life to deserve this?!
After this exchange, to atone with the granny, the duo bought the infamous donut box and offered two to the vigilantes, who accepted the peace offering.
The Cyan Huntress (that was the masked teen's title) warned the kamaitachi that she would set him on fire if he tried to do the same scam again during their stay.
(Sufficiently cowed, Kaze had agreed.)
Satisfied by the reaction, Musashi marched her boys (and girl) to the hotel room to properly scold them in privacy.
They didn't have to collect twerps whenever they went, after all!
¹* "Wind" in Japanese.
²* "Sonans" is homophonous with the interjection "そうなんす sō na-n-su", which roughly means, "That's the way it is." [-cit. Bulbapedia]
³* It's a Japanese glass wind bell, said to predict disasters and ward off evil spirits. It's usually hanged out Shinto Shrines.
⁴* Okiagari-koboshi doll are a Japanese traditional doll with squinted eyes that stands back upright when pushed over. [-cit. Bulbapedia.]
⁵* Shrine maiden in charge of Shinto Shrines.
A/N. I was totally stumped on what to do with this day prompts for a while.
I started with researching on "Tarots", but none of them gave me the satisfaction I was seeking, so I turned to the "Scythe".
It took a bit, but then the wind scythes of the kamaitachi (who is a yōkai that sometimes is depicted as a weasel with long talons) came to my mind.
There are many depiction of in various shows, so I left the idea in my WIP notebook blank until two days ago, when I re-read the Wiki Page on the Kamaitachi and it mentioned that in the Musashi region these yōkai are called "Kamakaze" ("sickle wind", thus giving him the "real name" as Kaze).
But you can already guess why and where it had spiraled from there…
In just a night I wrote the whole script (on paper) with one idea in mind: "Who would the TRio be in the DP world? And What would their Pokémon look like?"
So, here's the recap:
Musashi (Jessie)_ Full-time High school nurse, part-time miko.
Kojiro (James)_ Full-time miko (while Musashi is busy at school), part-time High school janitor.
Kaze/Nyarth (Meowth)_ Kamaitachi under the ward of the duo's shrine.
Okiagari-koboshi doll (Wobbuffet)_ Doll under the protection of the duo's shrine.
Desumasu (Yamask)_ Spirit tied to a funerary mask under the protection of the duo's shrine.
Fūrin (Chimecho)_ Possessed glass wind chime under the protection of the duo's shrine.
Habunake (Seviper)_ Venomous snake, Musashi's vicious pet.
I couldn't fit the other TRio's Pokémon as well, so these are all of them.
As for the 5 Halfa AU, it was a spur of the moment!
As you may have guessed, the Cyan Huntress is the Halfa-alias of Valerie Gray (imagine her latest armor but with inverted colors: black is white and red is cyan).
She has an Amber Fire Core and every trick she already had thanks to her upgraded armor.
Danny was just messing around to see how Val would deal with the situation, otherwise he would just have trapped Kaze in a spherical ectoplasmic/ice shield and let him tire out.
Hope you liked this and had fun, type ya tomorrow!
Will Day 13 be Void or Candlelight? Check in "Domestic Phantoms" and you'll find out!
