Halloween night was near, so every citizen (and hunter) was ready for the upcoming ghost activity increase.
Though, Sarah hadn't be ready to host this kind of dinner date between two spectral entities on Halloween's Eve.
(Phantom had acted as guarantor for them and also promised to cover all the expenses of the dinner as soon as he was free from the spooky season frenzy.
Considering that the superhero teen had been a frequent client of the takeaway and had always paid, Lisa trusted him.)
In the VIP corner of the restaurant, a pale burly man was laughing a static chortle, while a crimson haired woman, clad in a vermillion Renaissance dress smiled in return.
At their "feet", under the table a sentient spectral carved turnip (with a lit ember inside) was playing around with an ectoplasmic human skull. Since the reserved spot was sheltered from the rest of the restaurant, the cashier (and manager) was confident that the other clients wouldn't have any ground to complain.
β Psss, Sarah. β The waitress whispered, flanking her sister. β Did Phantom mention who our guests were?
β Not really, but given the carved turnip he came with, I think that the man could be "Jack O' Lantern". β The manager whispered back. β Com'on Lisa, Phantom always comes for the takeaway, they won't be that different from him, since he guaranteed for them.
β But he's a regular and a teenager! He's intimidating like a wet kitten! β Lisa retorted quietly.
β β¦Point. Okay, I'll accompany you. Com'on. β The sisters of the family restaurant reached the couple, fixing on the professional smile. β Good evening! Is the VIP section of your liking?
β It is delightful, dear, thank you. β The crimson haired woman smiled pleased. β That Phantom lad has a good taste in restaurants, I commend you.
β We're glad to hear that. Are you ready for your order? β Lisa requested, as she readied the block notes.
β Of course. We request the Dish of the Day, accompanied by a rich red wine for my fiancΓ©e and a Bloody Mary for me. β That made "Jack O'" cackle, prompting his companion to shush him fondly. β Do not mind him, he can be visible only in this timeframe, thus he is not used to other people anymore.
β Don't worry Miss, this is Amity Park. We're used to any kind of people. β Sarah nodded her head. Her statement was true: if they didn't harass the other clients, anyone was welcome in their restaurant. β Anything else you needed?
β We need very little to eat, but thank you, this will be sufficient. β The woman gave Lisa the menus.
β Very well, I'll be back shortly. β The waitress replied, walking back towards the kitchens along with her sister.
β See? It wasn't that bad. β Sarah nudged the other woman, getting a sigh in response.
β Yeah, yeah, I'll take the orders to the kitchens. See you later. β Lisa departed, letting the cashier go back to manning the incoming other clients.
During the whole evening, the group of ghosts was incredibly peaceful, not counting the flickering lights when the man laughed too hard, but that was a standard for Amity. Maybe it was due to the upbringing of their original historic period?
Once the meal had ended and the restaurant was about to close, the couple and their companions reached the cash register to speak with the manager.
β Darling, thank you for hosting us. This is the most enjoyable time I have ever spent both in life and death. Even if Phantom has offered to pay in our stead, let us give you and your sister a tip. β The lady smiled, offering two expertly designed hand mirrors (they had a brass frame ornate with fern and berries). β With this you can call me whenever you need, either for a chat among ladies or a favor. β Sarah accepted the objects with curiosity. β These are from my fiancΓ©e. He will be able to come to you if you light them up, tell a daunting tale and then snuff them off. β The other two objects that she handed her were two pumpkin-shaped candles. At the living woman bewildered expression, the crimson haired one chuckled. β I acknowledge that the ritual is uncomfortably long, however we are working on it. As soon as the plot we were planning tonight for tomorrow is successful and my fiancΓ©e is established as the rightful King of Halloween, he will have the power to reshape his summoning rite.
β If I mayβ¦ β The manager began, getting a nod in encouragement. β Does this "plot" involve the Fright Knight? I heard that he claimed to be the lord of Halloweenβ¦ β She trailed off, seeing the duo's pleased expression.
β He is. He will not be for long. After all, my dear Jack has been whispered about fair longer in this Realm than that Zone-native knight. β She caressed the pale man's cheek, leaving a trail of blood from her fingernails, as if they had been imbued with red paint.
Slowly her crimson dress started dripping her tint, revealing that it had been white once, before being drenched by blood, which had stayed solid for the entire dinner.
β I am incredibly sorry for the floor, dear, but it is time for us to depart. β The skull hopped in the ghost's awaiting hands, delivering her a sealed glass vial filled with bright red flower petals. β These Blood Blossoms will not work after all, if we will not drench a certain sword in it!
The ghost quartet cackled and melted away (or did they just drop inside?) in the puddle of blood.
The restaurant personnel stared at the display, creped out and spooked a little, while Lisa reached the still stunned Sarah.
β I think I know now why Jack cackled when she ordered her drink. β The manager whispered. β She was Bloody Mary. β¦And she gave us their numbers.
A/N. I swear, the ending came out like that out of nowhere, it was as if I had been οΌ°πππΌπ’πΌβπ’β by Mary's spirit!
β¦She hadn't had her rightful pint of blood, after allβ¦
In all seriousness, I had the idea of the duo plotting Fright Knight's demise since editing the "Halloween Special", then the bit happening behind the scene of Ectoberhaunt dropped and my defiance skyrocketed HARD, so probably Mary took advantage of itβ¦ (γ»βγ»;)γ
Oh, I have the headcanon (or was it canon?) that Fight Knight is a Ghost Zone native spirit, so while his powers are strong and nearly unaffected by changing Realm, other Earth-native ghosts could see him as an invading foreign and so try to fight him back.
β¦If having Jack O' Lantern and Bloody Mary as the new sovereigns of Halloween and the spooky season is a good thing or not, it's only for you to decideβ¦
(β¦At least they are Phantom's friends? (ΰΉ; β’οΉβ’))
Hope you liked this, type ya tomorrow!
