Dorothy had lived in Amity Park since birth and even with all the town oddities, she had never desired to leave the place. She was old, all her friends and family resided either in the local cemetery or in the outskirts of the town, so she had no reason to move from her comfy house and the occasional visitors that came to keep her company.
Never mind that most of those visitors were either wild or abandoned animals, since she fed them and they had a trust rapport with her.
Every Fall for almost three decades without missing a year, a porcupine would show up for Dorothy's (sugar free) pumpkin pie. The beastie was so adorable and they were so used to each other, that the woman would have a fresh batch ready everyday just for its arrival.
But when one day it failed to show up, Dorothy worried.
"Pine" had been getting old and slow, so maybe it had been delayed somewhere?
However, when a whole week passed with still no sign of the porcupine, Dorothy resigned herself: old age must have claimed another of her friends.
She just wished that her friend was now in a better place full of pumpkins.
β¦Or at least, that was what she had been thinking before the doorbell rang.
Surprised, since she hadn't been waiting for human guests, Dorothy looked through the peephole and came upon the face of one of the newbie ghost defenders of the town (the one clad in toxic green jumpsuit with black gloves, boots and utility belt), waiting patiently for her with⦠something dark green in her arms.
What was her name again? She had to ask, but what did she need from her?
She was a nice girl, always ready to help the weak and defenseless, above all if they were animals and plants, so Dorothy felt safe to open the door. β Good afternoon dear. How can I help you?
β Good afternoon to you madam, I'm here just to accompany this little guy. β She raised the dark green mass of what the elderly woman recognized as ghostly fur. β He got lost in the woods after he formed. The first days are always the most disorienting, so he couldn't have found his way here. β The mass shifted and an adorable familiar face peeked from among the fur.
β Pine! You silly beastie, where did you go? I was waiting for you! You made me worry! β She gently and playfully scolded, sinking her fingers in the ghost's thick belly fur. He chattered in response, making the woman smile. β Ah, yes yes, you're always on time, since you always show up exactly when you desire.
The ghost porcupine protested, making Dorothy laugh. β That was not how that saying went? Silly me, then! β She then looked up at the rookie-hero's green eyes, just a shade darker than her jumpsuit. β Thank you for your help, dear. Would you mind a pumpkin pie as thanks?
The spectral girl hesitated, but the rodent in her hold chittered something at her and she must have understood, because she nodded. β Alright. Since he's recommending it as the best food he has ever tasted, I'll gladly accept. My name is Antheia, by the way. β She greeted.
β I'm Dorothy, nice to meet you. Now, com'on dears, I took the pie out of the oven few minutes ago. β She invited the ghosts, who followed her inside her modest house.
Antheia was a nice spirit and complimented her receipt, while the three of them sat on the patio to enjoy the Fall crispy air. The spectral girl stayed with them for about a quarter of hour, just to be sure that they were okay with the new setting and because she had patrol afterwards, so unfortunately she couldn't remain longer.
Before departing, though, the newbie used her powers to give more strength to the plants in Dorothy's garden, so they would survive the upcoming winter nicely.
The elderly woman and her porcupine friend watched as Antheia flew away, grateful of her help. Amity had gained a nice set of new protectors and Phantom deserved a bit of a break.
After a beat, Dorothy turned to the spirit.
β Now Pine, what do you say about another pumpkin pie slice?
Gneoat-tagnnniuh!
β That's what I thought. β Dorothy laughed. β Here it comes!
A/N. This was way shorter than my usual standards (I usually tend to ramble and so elongate the story), but I didn't have anything more to say about this, so I guess this flash fiction was Halfa!Sam debut on Ao3!
(If you readers on FFnet are curious about this AU, I have the Origin Story on "Haunted Drabbles" starting from Chapter 26. Hope you'll enjoy!)
Just for you to know: the Tiny at the beginning was supposed to be a squirrel, but then I saw this post on Tumblr so I switched to a porcupine because reasons. (Please watch it, it's worth it!)
If you are following me on Tumblr, almost two months ago (after Ectoberhaunt List had been published) I was looking for tips for Sam's Hero Name and came upon the hidden floral theme inside her full name, so I went gung-ho with both the pun and the reference to her plant-related Core because: YES, it had to be done.
NOW! Only Jazz is left: what will her Hero Name be?
Hope you liked this, type ya tomorrow!
Will Day 27 be Burial or Cobwebs? Check in "Domestic Phantoms" and you'll find out!
