A group of poachers had recently moved in the outskirts of Amity Park.
The fame of the inhabitants of the area had spread as them being a mass of gullible simpletons, so if some livestock went missing, they would certainly attribute that to those so-called "ghosts" that "infested" the town and not suspect a thing.
And for the majority of their heists it had worked: they got in, stole a cow or two and some other beast and got out without even a suspect in the grapevine.
The ghosts had done it, so why bother searching for human poachers?
However, their luck ran out when they decided to steal from the Millers.
It had all started a hour before midnight, the sky was cloudy and perfect for not being seen under the moonlight, so the group of five sneaked in through the (not even electrified) fence of the property.
From their research, the Millers had won a prize for a pony and it would have paid them big money if they managed to sell the animal in another state.
Therefore, they converged to the stables to attain the mini-horse, from different directions in order to cover every hiding spot.
However, their "divide et impera" strategy, (un)fortunately backfired spectacularly.
In the darkness, one after another, in complete isolation from the others, they ended entangled with near invisible threads scattered around the stable, laid for a trap.
The more they moved and the more they got wrapped in the grey cobwebs that were as elastic as rubber, but as strong as steel.
Panicked and frenzied, they didn't care to be spotted anymore, they just wanted O U T.
They most had an heart attack when searchlights focused on them, making the spider-webs they were trapped in shine with a rainbow effect and the huge spiders that had made them cast a terrifying shadow upon the poachers.
(One even fainted in the terror.)
On the porch of the farm, a woman (Cynthia, i.e. the owner of the property) and a cyan haired, black-with-white-accents-jumpsuit-wearing floating girl watched severely the scene with crossed arms.
โ Well, Mrs. Miller, it seems that, as you suspected, the culprits of those missing livestock weren't ghosts after all. โ The spectral girl observed, whipping out a notebook and starting to write something on it.
โ Yeah, you, your brother and your friends would have caught them already, if that had been the case. You Phantoms take very seriously your haunt like I do with my land after all. โ Cynthia replied with a feral grin, as the spiders began to cocoon their preys inside their threads.
โ We like to be of help, that's all. โ The cyan haired teen slightly blushed green at the indirect compliment, but kept on writing. โ Andโฆ done. Ready to be shipped to jail. Do you think that this could count as private citizen arrest? โ She asked to the farmer.
โ Wordsmith, they were inside my property illegally and we have everything caught on tape. The only way the judge could protest would be if it's corrupted and we know very well how your EVP Hacker sniffs out the traces of bribes. โ The woman cracked her knuckles in satisfaction.
โ Yes, he's good in what he does. I'll still stay for the police statement, if you agree. If they send detective Taggart*, he'll help us out. He seems to have gained aโฆ linking to our team. โ The Wordsmith smiled, probably in recollection of a previous interaction.
Cynthia was curious about their shenanigans, but she had to call the police before thatโฆ Maybe she could request directly for this Taggart guy to smooth thing out. Yes, that would do.
โ Okay, I'll call them. โ The farmer made to turn and go inside the house, but then paused to pat the cyan haired on the head. โ You did good kid.
This time the rookie busted in a full green blush, but smiled brilliantly, whitish aura brightening. โ Thank you!
Amity Park would be in safe hands with the four new vigilantes, of that Cynthia was certain.
* Name picked from "Beverly Hill Cop", since Tucker's surname "Foley" was a reference to its protagonist (Axel Foley). John Taggart is one of the detectives that befriends Axel during the trilogy, so this had to be done. xD
A/N. The alias "Phantom Wordsmith" came from an extensive research on what I could have used for Jazz:
Some obscure pun with her (nick)name?("Jazz" didn't have anything I liked, so nope.)
Something linked to her powers and ink? (Inkmaster sounded good, but not enough.)
Something referencing her role as an Authoress? (โฆPhantom Authoress had been an option, before I realized it would have been a mouthful- not that "Wordsmith" isn't as well! I know! But thenโฆ)
So I searched the Wiki page on "Writer" and one of the disambiguations had been "Wordsmith".
Suddenly my Galaxy Brain lit up at the term, because a particular recurring nightmare Jazz has during her Origin Story featured her smashing things with a mallet, so, yeah, Wordsmith it was.
As for the rainbow effect on the spider-webs you can thank Kimera20's reblog for the image I described.
If you're wondering why I chose the 5 Halfa AU for this prompt, is because Jazz in the Origin Story starts using spiders since they have many practical "powers" (characteristics, really) that are quite handyโฆ Oh! I still haven't said what her power are by the way!
The Phantom Wordsmith (AKA Jazz Fenton) has "Manipulation + Lexiconicy + Narrative Essokinesis".
I had to look these up in the Superpowers Wikia because I didn't know their names, but basically she can manipulate Ink made by her Core Ectoplasm into "minions" and/or make them move by writhing it on a notebook.
If you have any question feel free to ask in the comments, it'll take a while for me to respond due to the writing frenzy, but I'll get into it! (เนโขฬใ โขฬ)ูโง
Hope you liked this, type ya tomorrow!
