In this world, there were a lot of monsters. Creatures of the night, demons, evil sorcerers, you name it. If that sounds frightening…well it's because it is. That's why Monster hunters exist. If there is something strange in your neighborhood, you call upon them to slay the dark deity that is responsible for them.

Adrien Agreste and Kagami Tsurugi were two of them. Partners in crime fighting and partners in the romantic sense though they were taking things slowly. Both from wealthy families whom felt their lives among the rich and elite were boring and became monster slayers, adventurers. So whenever someone or their village have a monster problem they call upon them, they slay it, get paid for their efforts, sometime get a celebration thrown at them and moved on.

Adrien was riding on top of his black panther steed, Plagg. A ferocious steed and ally in a fight…though it would be really lazy as well and sometimes needed to be motivated with cheese of all things (that was one weird cat). Longg, Kagami's dragon steed (which was really awesome in Adrien's opinion and maybe a little to his jealousy) was composed and well behaved, and lived of dragonfruits (Adrien chuckled at the pun).

"So…La Ville des Miracles?" Adrien said as he checked the scroll with the details they were given for their next mission. "A family of vampires? Must be Tuesday." Adrien quipped.

"Actually it is Thursday." Kagami said bluntly.

"I was making a joke." Adrien noted.

"I do not understand why mixing up the days of the week would be funny." Kagami noted. Adrien sighed as Kagami was very oblivious to humor. "Say, Adrien, did that client seem off to you?"

"You mean aside the sausage bangs? Every time I looked at her hair, I got hungry." Adrien asked.

"Also, her body language and the way she spoke, like she tried to way too hard to come off as meek and scared." Kagami noted.

"Well she was talking about vampires, most would be afraid of those." Adrien argued.

"It still felt off, like she was not entirely honest with us." Kagami said.

"Well…whatever she is sending us up against we can handle it. And if she is dishonest and tries to back out, out of paying us, I'll have a polite word with her." Adrien noted.

"Why are you always the one to have polite words with the customers and I never get to be involved with pressing the issues of payment?" Kagami asked.

"Well, you tend to pull out your sword on them." Adrien noted.

"It is efficient in letting them know my displeasure." Kagami said. "And make them think about double crossing us."

"You just love stabbing things way too much." Adrien scoffed. "Please keep the stabbing to the monsters."

"Spoilsport." Kagami said with a smile. She could be impish if she wanted to. "I think we are nearly at the village."

"Ok, nearly ready, now the people may be skittish and afraid and there is a lot of tension so we have to thread carefully not to scare them off." Adrien said as they approached the village…Only the atmosphere is not what they thought it was. It seemed…fairly normal? Everyone was just happily carrying on their daily lives. "Huh..." Adrien noted.

"Welcome to la Ville des…" a voice sounded as Kagami quickly pulled her sword and pointed it at the source of the voice. "Whoa, lady! Careful where you point that!" it was a young man around their age.

"Kagami, sword down!" Adrien noted. Kagami pulled it back. "I'm sorry about her, she is tense. I'm Adrien Agreste, this is Kagami Tsurugi! We are monster hunters on a mission."

"Monster hunters? That is remarkable." The young man said. "I'm Nino Lahiffe, musician. Welcome to la Ville des Miracles. What brings you to our humble village?"

"We are investigating rumors about a vampire family terrorizing this area, could you tell us something about it?" Adrien asked.

"Yes, so we can stab them?" Kagami said as she raised her sword again.

"We have vampires here but they do no terrorize people." Nino noted. "They make bread and clothes."

"What?" Adrien said as he and Kagami blinked. "You are saying that there is a family of vampire working as a baker and a tailor?"

"Indeed." Nino responded.

"Why would a vampire bake bread and sew clothes?" Kagami asked.

"Because everyone needs a livelihood?" Nino asked with a shrug. None of the hunters knew to respond to that.

"Er…can you take us to them?" Adrien asked.

"You are not going to stab them are you?" Nino asked raising an eyebrow. Kagami wanted to open her mouth but Adrien elbowed her, making her shut up.

"No, we're…in need of sustenance and a new wardrobe?" Kagami said.

"All right. Just follow me. Say, you want to listen to some of my music on the way?" Nino said as he pulled out a lyre.

"Sure…" Adrien said with a shrug as they followed. They had to admit, Nino's tunes are pretty great.

"All right, we're here!" Nino said. It was a small building, or two buildings next to each other rather. One said 'Dupain-Cheng bakery', and the other said 'MDC, Tailor and Fashion'. "I'm telling you the croissants are to die for and Mari really knows her way around a thread and needle."

"Mari?" both Adrien and Kagami asked.

"The daughter of the family. Just put your steeds next to her." Nino said, pointing at a ladybug beetle large enough to ride, parked with several other exotic steed creatures, picking cookies from a basket and happily munching on them. "Hi Tikki!" Nino said as he petted the oversized beetle, whom stroked and tickled with his antenna affectionately. "She's the family's, she's a sweetheart."

"All right? Now, you know where I get cheese for my steed and some dragonfruits for hers?" Adrien asked.

"I can get you some, my family owns a grocery store. I'll get some for you." Nino said.

"Er, thank you?" Adrien noted. He and Kagami parked their steeds and went inside the building. "Well, here goes nothing." Adrien said as he moved in, holding his hand to his own sword holster.

As they stepped in, they found the bakery to be very ordinary looking. It has a cozy atmosphere though and the smell of bread and pastries filled the air. People were happily talking to a couple behind the counter. A large man (and he means large, Adrien thought only his bodyguard had that body type) with a mustache and a short Chinese woman with dark hair were treating the customers. The visible fangs didn't even seem to bother the people if they noticed at all. "Is everyone in this village hypnotized or something?" Adrien asked confused.

"They act normally, if they were they'd be off." Kagami noted.

"And what can we do for you dearies?" the vampire baker woman asked them when it was their turn.

"Er, a croissant please?" Adrien blurted out.

"Adrien, you think that's wise, there could be something wrong with the food." Kagami whispered until a loud growling sound was heard and filled the bakery. Kagami grabbed her stomach. "Er…I would like a pain au chocolat?"

"I think you two could use more than one, you look like you have travelled a long way." The large mustached vampire man said. "You two must be new in town, because I don't recognize you. I'll throw one of each for free, to welcome you to our humble little village."

"Oh, that's not necessary, Mr. Dupain…" Kagami said.

"But Kagami, free pastry!" Adrien whispered.

"Call me Tom." The man insisted.

"And call me Sabine. Besides you look like you had a tiring journey, it's the least we can do." The woman chimed in.

Kagami felt a growl in her stomach again and her hunger won out from her pride. "Then I'd love a second pain…" she noted.

"Oh, this just cannot pass!" another voice said. They turned their head to the side…from the door that connected the two buildings, from the tailor shop next door walked in. She was physically their age (chronologically harder to tell due to the agelessness of vampires). She had bluebell eyes and black hair with a dark blue sheen in pigtails. One of her fangs stuck out in a kitty fang type of way.

'Oh my god, she's cute!' Both Kagami and Adrien thought. Wait, they did remember she was a vampire right?

"Those clothes are on their last legs…I see you must have traveled far and wide, it shows. They are in need of a repair…no, I think you need a new outfit. You need to come with me, I need to take your measurements." She said. "Oh, I'm Marinette by the way. Nice to meet you. I think so because I don't recognize you so you must be new, unless you were around and I didn't notice because I may be scatter-brained a bit and oh my gosh I am rambling…" the vampire girl said as she dragged them both in her shop, and then promptly tripped. "I'm okay!" she said as she picked herself up.

This is the vampire they were hired to destroy? She is not dangerous, she is adorable in a dorky way. Adrien and Kagami was sure that client of theirs had been pulling their legs. The girl immediately started taking their measurements, and starting to note a few things down one some parchment. "Oh…er, you two really work out…You look fine. I mean, you're fine, I mean it's fine!" she stammered and blushed. "Er…I'll get your new outfit ready in a jiffy!" she said as she scrambled to the back where her workshop was.

Both of the hunters blinked. "So, what do we do about her?" Adrien asked. He grabbed one of the croissants they were given and munched on it. "And this is the best croissant I ever ate.

"I don't know, she is either very good at acting or we have been duped." Kagami noted. She took a bite out of the bun. "And this pain au chocolat is just delightful."

"Ta-da!" Marinette came back, having whipped up an outfit with her great vampire speed. "Now let's see how good you look in these…not that you don't look good now because you both look fine and…" Marinette rambled before she blushed and held the clothes in front of her so that they wouldn't see her turn redder. "Please try?"

A few moments later the two wore their new outfits and checked themselves out. "Whoa, this is a really good outfit." Adrien noted. "My father couldn't have done it better and he is a fashion mogul."

"It is both aesthetically pleasant and comfortable." Kagami noted.

"Thanks." Marinette said sheepishly. "Oh…did I forget to ask your names?"

"You did." Adrien chuckled. Marinette looked embarrassed so he stopped chuckling and aid. "Adrien Agreste."

"Kagami Tsurugi." Kagami added. "And we are grateful for these outfits but…we have been on the road and we may not be able to pay them. We were about to go on a monster hunting mission for some income."

"It's ok. Consider it a gift. We always love to treat new people, make them feel welcome." Marinette said with a smile.

"So…er, sorry if I ask, but…isn't it unusual for a vampire family to run a bakery or tailor shop. Most vampires we encounter are…" Adrien wanted to be careful.

"Sociopathic monsters whom drain the vascular system of townspeople dry." Kagami added in her usual bluntness.

"Yeah, there are those type of idiots among us. You know, the type that's among every type of people, have to just try to bully or push around others or worse. Gives the rest of us a bad name. Most of us just want to make a honest living." Marinette noted.

Oh, so they have been fighting criminals among the vampire race before? Ok, can make sense. "So, what do you do to get sustenance?"

"Oh, friends donate a bit what we need to survive. The people here are so thoughtful. And that's what I don't get about the other vampires sometimes. Hunting and killing people only puts targets on your back. You sometimes have to be nice and ask. It is like they relish the act of violence and just use sustenance as an exuse." Marinette explained.

"Oh…one more thing, it is daytime and you are fine?" Kagami asked.

"We are an Elder line. We are kind of more powerful then the standard vampire and have few of the normal weaknesses." Marinette explained.

"An Elder…aren't they supposed to be part of the leading body of vampire populations?" Adrien asked.

"My part of the family doesn't bother with politics. It gets boring real quick." Marinette said. "So…" she clapped her hands. "How long are you staying?"

"Er…" neither Adrien or Kagami wanted to say they were here because they were hired to kill vampires, certainly when these vampires were so friendly.

"Er…long enough to just investigate a rumor about a possible dark force and slay it, and if not leave?" Adrien said.

"We're not sure if we find anything. We'll look around and move on." Kagami added.

"Oh…you'll need a place to stay in the mean time right? Why don't you stay over in the meantime?" Marinette suggested.

"Oh, but we couldn't intrude…" Adrien said nervously. "We don't want to be freeloaders…"

"No problem, you can just help around the bakery or the shop in the meantime, I think that seems fair. We could use the extra help and even if the hunt is a bust you can earn a bit of money on the side that way." Marinette noted.

"That's…a very generous offer, we accept and thank you." Kagami noted. She whispered to Adrien: "We just stay a while, say the rumor is invalid and move on, leaving them in peace."

"Yeah, these people are too nice to be a threat." Adrien whispered back.

"You are taking a bit, does anyone want another snack?" Sabine asked as she came in with a tray of pastries. Adrien nearly drooled. Kagami was like 'screw it, give me the damn pastry!'

They were supposed to stay a few days. But it became a few weeks because the Dupain Chengs made them feel welcome. Then there was this festival going on…and then there was this demonstration by the town inventor Max Kanté about his newest automaton…then there was this athletic competition between the sporty townspeople Alix and Kim…and they always found more reasons and excuses to stay.

But the biggest reason was now fast asleep, cuddled in between Adrien and Kagami in their bed. Those whom thought Vampires had cold bodies. She had a cute smile on her face and seemed comfortable. Neither Adrien and Kagami, whom were wide awake (while Marinette would have slept through having an anvil dropped on her) budged too much.

"How long have we stayed?" Adrien asked.

"Far longer then we anticipated. But life here is…pleasant." Kagami noted.

"I thought we'd be wanderers and adventurers forever." Adrien noted. "But maybe we just did it to stick it to our sucky parentals. Maybe because we were good fighters and we just used that to survive."

"But it was not a planned career. All I wanted was…a home. With warmth that was never given to me. When Mari and her parents came into our lives…" she ran her fingers through the sleeping vampire girl's hair.

"It is not a glamourous life with constant awe-inspiring events, but…it feels right." Adried stroked Marinette's cheek, whom twitched in her sleep and gave a playful and harmless nibble on his finger. "I guess we're ready to settle down."

"Marinette, the Dupain-Chengs, they are our family now, they are our life…and I'm actually for the first time in my life, truly happy."

"Me too." Adrien said. "I don't think we have to get up early today. Let's stay like this for a bit."

"Agreed." Kagami said, as they cuddled closer to their shared girlfriend. "You have the feeling we are forgetting something?"

"Eh. Probably not important." Adrien noted.

"You idiots! You had one job! One job! You were supposed to slay the vampire, not lay it!" Lila Rossi, the one whom initially set them on the path to the Dupain Chengs had finally caught up to them.

"Well, the Dupain Chengs aren't bad people and I am kind of miffed that you thought they needed exterminating. They are good people." Adrien said.

"Not to mention that you so blatantly lied to our faces thinking that we wouldn't have figured it out. We don't want your payment (which I doubt you would do anyhow), so you better leave." Kagami threatened.

"No! I want them dead! Those monsters need to die, they are just biding their time, using their so called shops as a front, to fatten up the people and dress them up nicely for a buffet. They should be exterminated." Lila said as she threw a tantrum.

"Funny how that goes because you hired a vampire mercenary once to sabotage a rival until he met his unfortunate demise in the garlic patch?" Marinette jumped in. "You just couldn't help it no one bought your lies and gave you attention. You are a con and a hypocrite, you are just going on about a petty vendetta. You have done enough Lila. You are wasting time and effort, move on."

"No! It's not fair, you are a vampire and people like you more then me. I am astounding, I am glamourous and not only you draw attention of the people, you don't even seem to care." Lila growled.

"Yeah, I had honestly forgotten about you until now." Marinette said. "It would be a waste of time and resources to humor this self-proclaimed rivalry. I just want to live my life and chase my dreams. You should do that instead of just focusing on a petty vendetta that takes over your life. You will forget to live." Marinette said.

"I will not be lectured by you, you leech!" Lila noted, the irony that she is a bigger leech due to her con antics didn't cross her mind.

"You better leave. Everyone loves the Dupain Chengs because they are good people. While you are a despicable and quite honestly petty person." Adrien noted.

"And the people in this town don't take kindly of you slandering this beloved family and trying to trick them. Leave or I'll take my trusted sword out of retirement especially for you." Kagami threatened.

"Fine, but you'll not have seen the last of me! I'll ruin you all. I know whom you two really are. You are a few runaway rich bitches. I could tell your parents where the missing son and daughter are, and that they enter debauchery with a vampire. They would raze this village to the ground to get you back and set you straight."

"Let them come!" Adrien said. "We have been running for too long. We will confront our past head on and we will protect this village, because it is our new home."

"We finally have found happiness. We have fallen in love not only with Marinette but with this place. The only thing about the Tsurugi family values I kept is that I do not bow to anyone. I will stand defiant."

"And our family may be pacifists but we are ready to defend what we hold dear. And we are still of an Elder line, so we are not to be trifled with. You have nothing to scare us with Lila." Marinette added.

Lila gritted her teeth and looked mad that her threat didn't work. Maybe they were just too stupid to realize they were being threatened. "You haven't heard the last of me." She said as she turned around.

"You think she's serious though, about your parents? Gabriel Agreste and Tomoe Tsurugi are not known to be easy." Marinette asked. "Can we handle them?"

"They would have caught up eventually." Adrien said. "I was always afraid, but no more. We can't keep running from our past."

"We have to face it head on…so that we can live for a better future." Kagami said as she took one of Marinette's hands. "You are our treasure Mari, we will not let anyone take us away from you."

"Together forever, right?" Adrien said as he took Mari's other hand.

"Together." Marinette replied.
