So I have What If Battles, which is basically my version of Death Battle. Autistic-Grizzly has What If Exhibitions, which is basically his version of DBX. Here's the One Minute Melee. But not really. This series will focus exclusively on same series fights, and will return to the roots of what What If Battles was supposed to be. Random via coin toss. So don't blame me, blame the coin. But this won't be updating regularly like What If Battles and my other fics are supposed to be. This is mostly for me to see the fights that I kinda wished happened in canon. I don't think that there will be too many, but you're welcome to leave suggestions. Remember, same series matchups. And there is another What If collection that's going to be released.
Disclaimer: I don't own Danganronpa. Danganronpa is owned by Kazutaka Kodaka and Spike Chunsoft.
MAKI HARUKAWA
VS
PEKO PEKOYAMA
Maki walked on the sidewalk in a city. There was a construction site nearby. She studied it as she crossed her arms. She looked up to see a figure holding a katana above her.
"What do you want?" she asked dismissively.
"Maki Harukawa. The Ultimate Assassin. The Kuzuryuu Clan wishes to employ you." Pekoyama said as she landed next to her.
"If I refuse?"
"Then they will see a clash between the Ultimate Assassin and the Ultimate Swordmaster." Pekoyama said as she drew her blade. Maki pulled out a pistol.
"Do you want to die?" she growled.
"Do you wish to try?" Pekoyama challenged.
Nobody blink!
Go for it!
Maki fired several shots from her pistol. Pekoyama's blade flashed in the dim light as it sliced the bullets in half. The swordmaster charged at Maki and slashed at her stomach. Maki jumped back to dodge the attack, letting the sword slice through the air. Pekoyama tried again, slashing rapidly. Maki grunted as she continued to jump back, dodging the slashes. Pekoyama suddenly stabbed towards the assassin, forcing her to duck to the side. Pekoyama's foot shot up and caught Maki by the chin, knocking her down. Pekoyama swung downwards, only for Maki to throw herself behind Pekoyama.
The swordmaster whirled around and brought her blade down again, only for it to only hit the ground as her opponent jumped over it. Her head snapped back as Maki kicked her face from the air. Maki landed and spun-kicked Pekoyama's stomach, sending her flying back. Pekoyama landed and flipped to her feet. Maki dashed to the side, heading to the construction site. Pekoyama saw this and gave chase.
The assassin knocked an oil drum over as she ran past it, Pekoyama jumping over it easily. Maki kicked off a metal beam and grabbed onto another above her, flipping over it to land on top. Pekoyama leapt onto the beam as well. Maki growled as she pulled out a pair of knives. The two clashed, their blades glinting in the dim moonlight. Maki's knives were clanging against Pekoyama's katanas.
They began to climb higher on the construction site as they fought. They flipped over each other, trying to keep the high ground as they slashed at each other at rapid speeds. Maki flipped to her back to dodge another slash and countered by slamming her feet into Pekoyama and using her to jump higher. The swordmaster cursed as she nearly fell to the ground, but caught a spare chain. She swung onto the support rails of the building and looked up to see Maki continuing to climb to the top of the construction. She looked around before running.
Maki flipped on top of one last I-beam, sighing. She looked around, trying to see where her opponent went. Suddenly Pekoyama shot up in front of Maki, the assassin just barely dodging the slash. It sliced the ends of the ribbon on her chest. Maki flipped backwards multiple times as Pekoyama continued to slash at her. She flipped off the I-beam and fell down, landing on another. She leapt off it as Pekoyama fell down with a slash. She grabbed onto a chain and used it to swing to the other side. Pekoyama caught the chain as it was returning and used it to swing over as well. To her shock, Maki suddenly pulled out a crossbow and aimed.
"Guh!" Pekoyama grunted as she clumsily blocked the bolt with her katana, nearly losing her grip. Maki reloaded and fired again. Pekoyama let go of the chain and fell down to avoid it. Her legs wrapped the chain around themselves and used it to slow her to a stop. Pekoyama grunted as she swung back and forth. She finally landed on a solid I-beam, but flipped over sideways as Maki landed near her.
Maki pulled out her knives again and attacked rapidly. Pekoyama's sword blurred to block a barrage of stabbing knives before she managed to force Maki back with a wild slash. Maki cartwheeled away before firing a bolt from her crossbow mid-air. Pekoyama slashed the bolt in half before charging. Maki grunted as she used the crossbow to block a slash, only for it to be knocked out of her hand. Pekoyama tried to slash Maki, but the assassin redirected the attack. She began to push Pekoyama back with a barrage of quick stabs, slashes, and even kicks. The swordmaster blocked the blades and used her legs to counter the kicks.
The two separated before charging at each other again. The two clashed blades as they weaved around each other on the narrow I-beam. Maki fell off the side but grabbed the side to flip up on the other side. Pekoyama held her blade behind her to block a slash before spinning to bring the sword down over her head. Maki blocked it with her knives, but one was knocked from her hand. Maki grunted as she blocked another slash which pushed her backwards.
The Ultimate Assassin jumped off to land near a bundle of chains on a wooden platform, which she noticed. Pekoyama landed on the same platform only to duck under a flying end of a chain. Maki swung the chain rapidly before swinging it at Pekoyama again. The swordmaster dodged the attack and jumped away. Maki pulled the chain back to swing it again before launching it. Pekoyama brought up her sword, and the chain wrapped around both it and her hands. The two struggled against each other before Maki suddenly let herself be pulled towards Pekoyama. She was caught off guard by the assassin's move and kicked in the face. She grunted as she caught herself and slashed back. Maki yanked on the chain to pull on Pekoyama's hands, causing the slash to go wild. Maki kicked Pekoyama away and charged with a knife, only to cough as Pekoyama slammed the end of her sheath into her stomach. She spun and kicked Maki across the face, causing her to spin in the air. The assassin landed before rolling away to dodge a stab to the ground, which pierced the platform. Pekoyama pulled her sword out and took a stance.
The two clashed again, knife against sword. Maki, with one hand now free, landed several punches against Pekoyama, only for the swordmaster to push her back with her shoulder. Maki rolled around on the platform, kicking at the swordmaster's legs. Pekoyama growled as she felt her legs ache as Maki repeatedly kicked them while rolling to dodge her sword swings. Pekoyama slashed downwards, forcing Maki to block with her knife. The wooden platform groaned under them. Pekoyama looked down briefly before jumping high above Maki. The assassin pulled out a pistol, but the katana smashed into it and into the platform. The impact caused a crack to sound out before the wood gave out from under them. The two landed on another I-beam underneath.
Maki and Peko took a moment to breathe heavily, the battle taking a toll on both of them before they leapt at each other again. Their blades clashed several times before they landed on the I-beam below them. Peko held her katana at the ready, pointing the tip towards Maki. Maki held her knife in a reverse grip as she lowered her stance. The two held a breath, before charging. Their feet pounded the ground as they charged before leaping up once more. As they approached, time seemed to slow, before they slashed at blinding speeds. A second passed before the two landed on the I-beam again.
A single drop of blood rolled down the side of Maki's face, falling off her chin and dropping onto the I-beam at her feet. Behind her, Peko staggered from her stance, falling onto a knee as blood spurted out of her wound. She steadied herself with her katana as she did her best to stand.
'No… don't fall…' she cursed in her head. She stood straight as Maki's stance changed behind her.
'Don't… waste this chance…' Peko turned around and held her katana at the ready. Maki screamed bloody murder as she dropped her knife and held her face, clawing at eyes that were no longer there. Peko held her sword with two hands. She took a breath before dashing forwards. Her katana flashed as she passed Maki, who fell silent.
'You fought well. Now rest.' Peko thought as she flicked her sword and slid her katana back into its sheath. When it clicked into place, there was a wet crunch, and Maki split into two from the head down. The two halves fell off the I-beam and fell down to the ground below. Peko bowed respectively to where Maki was standing just a few seconds before, before walking away.
