Bryant: Brain is greater than brawn. A phrase saying that brute strength will always fall before the might of the mind.
Thea: And while some might say that that's not always true, it might as well be with these two ladies.
Bryant: Annabeth Chase, the Daughter of Athena.
Thea: And Hermoine Granger, the Gryffindor Prodigy.
Bryant: I'm Bryant Reese.
Thea: And I'm Thea Price.
Bryant: And we're here to analyse these two fighters and find out who would win, a WI Battle!
-Line Break-
Bryant: Seven Half-bloods shall answer the call. Through storm or fire, the earth shall fall. An oath to be kept with final breath, and foes bear arms to the Doors of Death.
Thea: I love poetry night.
Bryant: Perseus Jackson, son of Poseidon. Regarded as one of the most powerful demigods in history, his story is a legend in his world. He's fought for the lives of others and helped prevent the end of the world on multiple occasions.
Thea: But he wouldn't have gone half as far without his friends. Chiron, his wise mentor. Grover, his weird best friend. And the smartest of them all: Annabeth Chase.
Annabeth Chase:
-Age: 18
-Height: 5'9"
-Species: Demigod
-Hates Spiders
-Is the architect for Olympus
-Was born from her mother's head
Bryant: Like all demigods, Annabeth was given up by her godly mother, Athena, to be raised by her human father, Frederick Chase. Unfortunately, the life of being a demigod is the life of hardships.
Thea: I'd say. Her dad tried to give her back to her mom, basically saying that he didn't want her. When Athena said no, he got married to someone else and had two other kids. When monsters came for Annabeth, drawn to her by her godly blood, everyone blamed her. At night, spiders would attack her due to her being the daughter of Athena, but no one would listen or care. It was a classic case of, "You were born this way, so just deal with it." Something that kids aren't really big fans of. Especially when you're just seven years old.
Bryant: Annabeth believed her family hated her, and ran away, fighting off monsters to the best of her capabilities with just a hammer. Fortunately, she found a newer, better family in the form of Luke Castellan and Thalia Grace, who were also on the run.
Thea: These three travelled the world, fighting off monsters, until they were eventually found by Grover Underwood, who led them back to Camp Half-Blood.
Bryant: Basically a safe-haven, where the demigods inside could train and prepare themselves for the real world of a demigod.
Thea: But Annabeth wanted to go back into the real world, to prove that she's champ! Especially when she heard that her destiny was to help the child of prophecy. Which eventually led to her meeting Percy.
Bryant: And with the skills and abilities she had cultivated over the years, she made for a damn good ally.
Abilities/Arsenal:
-Superhuman abilities
-Martial Arts Training
-ADHD
-Dyslexia
-Telumkinesis
-Genius Intellect
-Celestial Bronze Knife
-Magic Baseball Cap
-Drakon Bone Sword
-Egyptian Spells
=Tyet
=Ha-Di
=Su Fah
Thea: She doesn't have the same crazy abilities as her friends, but she more than makes up for that with her crazy high intellect.
Bryant: Annabeth is a master architect, craftsman, technician, and weaver. She has a photographic memory, a silver tongue, and knowledge of just about every battle and foe in mythology. And she can utilize this knowledge in battle thanks to her strategic skill. Being not only the daughter of Athena, but also the leader of all of the Athena children, Annabeth is easily one of the smartest and wisest in Camp Half-Blood.
Thea: Her intelligence was even able to keep up with Athena, the literal goddess of wisdom and everything smart.
Bryant: Naturally, she relies on her brains far more than her brawn. Constantly taking the lead and coming up with game winning strategies while also adapting to the environment around her.
Thea: But that doesn't mean she doesn't have brawn. Being a demigod, she's got superhuman strength, speed, and durability. And she can use these abilities in martial arts.
Bryant: Throughout the series, Annabeth has proven herself to be a capable hand-to-hand fighter. It's likely that she learned Pankration, an ancient martial art practiced in Ancient Greece. Pankration is a martial art that mixes wrestling and boxing. A sort of, ancient MMA fighting-style.
Thea: And being the daughter of Athena, she's also got, uh, telumkinesis? The f*ck is telumkinesis?
Bryant: Telumkinesis is manipulation of weapons. Though it's important to note that Annabeth has a very limited form of telumkinesis. She can't use attacks like Unlimited Blade Works, but she does have incredible natural skill with literally any weapon she touches.
Thea: But she mostly prefers fighting with her Celestial Bronze Knife, a gift from her friend, Luke. Who turned out to be evil. Bummer. Hate it when that happens.
Bryant: As it is made of Celestial Bronze, the knife will only harm magical beings, such as monsters, gods, and other demigods. This is Annabeth's signature weapon, which showcases the kind of person she is. After all, due to its short range, the most skilled knife fighter is the smartest.
Thea: But if its range is too little for you, you might prefer her Drakon Bone Sword. Which is a sword, made from the skeleton of a giant lizard of death! Awesome!
Bryant: She utilizes these weapons in her signature Greek Fighting style. Unlike the Romans and their fighting styles, this fighting style is adaptive and aggressive. Relying on unorthodox, unpredictable slashes. This fighting style is rather athletic, as some Greek Warriors have utilized rolling, somersaults, and feints.
Thea: And not only did we already talk about her superhuman abilities, but she's also got ADHD! Sure that doesn't sound all that good at first, but ADHD in this world is actually battle instincts!
Bryant: Think of it as a sort of sixth-sense. With ADHD, the demigods have heightened senses, reflexes, and natural instinct for fighting. It makes them more aware of their surroundings, kinda like the Spider-Sense, just not as overpowered. This has led to some demigods dodging attacks that they haven't even seen yet.
Thea: And even if she can't handle what she's fighting, she can make up for it with her Yankees Baseball Cap. Which is actually magical and can make her invisible! Courtesy of her ma. Speaking of her magic, she also learned how to use some! Sure she didn't remember how to use it afterwards, but we're giving both fighters the biggest arsenal we can for now. She has spells like Ha-Di, which is just for blowing stuff up. And her Su Fah spell helps her loosen things. Oh… kay?
Bryant: While she may not have the raw destructive power of some of the other demigods in her world, she's been able to keep up with them all.
Achievements;
-Fought and killed multiple monsters without a weapon
-Survived a poisoned knife, explosions, Backbiter, and even Tartarus
-Resisted the effects of the River Cocytus
-Outsmarted Circe, Polyphemus, Octavian, Arachne, Akhlys, Nyx, etc
-Constantly comes up with game winning strategies
-Wrestled with the Furies
-Can match other demigods in combat
-Held up the Sky
Bryant: She's skilled enough to fight and kill monsters bare-handed, tough enough to survive being stabbed with a poisoned knife, and strong enough to match Furies, some of the most feared monsters in their world.
Thea: Ah come on, those are what you're focusing on?
Bryant: I was building up to bigger feats.
Thea: F*ck building up! Let's give it to them straight!
Bryant: You want me to give it to them straight? Fine. Annabeth is comparable to her boyfriend Percy, who we analyzed before.
Thea: Percy can match Jason Grace, who can catch lightning!
Bryant: Considering that Jason was close enough to stab the storm spirit who tried to hit him with lightning, it's likely that he was about 10 feet away. To catch a lightning bolt from that close, he would've had to have reacted within 0.00003 seconds, or just a bit slower than a microsecond. The fastest known reaction time was only 0.1 seconds in comparison. Meaning that demigods like Annabeth can react over 33 hundred times faster than a normal human.
Thea: And Percy also survived being exploded by a volcano!
Bryant: Which was calculated to be equal to about 24 megatons of TNT.
Thea: She also held up the sky! The friggin' sky!
Bryant: It was specified that the area around where she was holding said sky would've been flattened. Giving the minimum and saying that it would've only crushed one square mile's worth of land, and treating it like a cube, she would've had to have been holding 420 tons at bare minimum. And this is the lowest possible weight.
Thea: It's probably way, way, way, way, way, way, way, way bigger and heavier, since it was specifically stated that it would destroy the mountain and everything around it! And she held it up! By herself! And survived!
Bryant: Specifically, she held it up for a long time. While we don't have a specific number, we can deduce that she was holding it for 10 hours at minimum, considering that this was shown to us through two dreams on separate nights.
Thea: She also survived being hit by Backbiter, a weapon that was described to sever a person's soul! That's pretty dangerous.
Bryant: In the depths of Tartarus, basically hell's hell, Annabeth and Percy were able to work together to survive this apocalyptic world. Even despite the fact that being there meant little to no food or water, the ground beneath them was broken glass, the air was poisonous, and blisters broke out on their skin. Annabeth was also able to shake off the effects of the River Cocytus, which fills your head with depressing thoughts until you allow yourself to drown.
Thea: She's pretty badass.
Bryant: Unfortunately, this can get to her head.
Weaknesses:
-Is vulnerable to both regular and magic weapons
-Hubris
-Arachnophobia
Bryant: All demigods, regardless of who they are, have a fatal flaw. In Annabeth's case, it's her hubris.
Thea: The weird paste you put on chips?
Bryant: That's hummus. Hubris is basically known as excessive pride. Annabeth has a belief that she can do just about anything, including building a world in a way that even the gods could not.
Thea: Well, she is rebuilding Olympus.
Bryant: This hubris has put her and her friends in danger several times. Despite having the knowledge to solve all the questions that a Sphinx was asking her and knowing that not playing its game would put her and her friends' lives at risk, she refused to continue answering them, as she saw the test as an "insult" to her intelligence.
Thea: That's, not good.
Bryant: And while she and Percy proved themselves to be tough enough to survive the depths of Tartarus, one of the reasons why they had to prove themselves in the first place is because of her hubris. Even so, Annabeth Chase is undoubtedly a child of destiny. She helped save her friends, her family, and even the world multiple times.
Thea: Don't you even think about underestimating her. A lot of people did before. And they're all dead.
(Annabeth) I'm nobody's sidekick.
-Line Break-
Bryant: The one with the power to vanquish the Dark Lord approaches. Born to those who have thrice defied him, born as the seventh month dies. And the Dark Lord will mark him as his equal, but he will have power the Dark Lord knows not. And either must die at the hand of the other for neither can live while the other survives. the one with the power to vanquish the Dark Lord will be born as the seventh month dies.
Thea: I thought prophecies would rhyme more.
Bryant: Harry James Potter, the Boy Who Lived. Regarded as one of the most powerful wizards in history, his story is a legend in his world. He's fought for the lives of others and helped prevent the end of the world on multiple occasions.
Thea: He's had a variety of different friends who have aided him on his journey. Dumbledore, his wise mentor. Ron, his weird best friend. And the smartest of them all: Hermione Granger. Hm, that sounds familiar.
Hermione Granger:
-Age: 17
-Height: 165.1 cm
-Species: Witch
-Hates the idea of failure
-Smartest witch in Gryffindor
-Was born to Muggle Parents
Bryant: Like all Muggle-Born Witches, Hermione was born as a regular Muggle, or non-magical beings, who was raised by her regular parents in the Muggle World. At the age of eleven, Hermione received news that she was actually a witch, and was invited to Hogwarts.
Thea: Who decided to name a school after a pig with acne?
Bryant: There, Hermione was placed in Gryffindor, the house of Courage, though she was considered to be a candidate for being in Ravenclaw.
Thea: Why? Cause if there's one word that can describe Hermione is, bossy. But another word is bookworm!
Bryant: Hermione, out of all the students of Hogwarts, possessed the biggest desire for knowledge. She loved learning and obtaining knowledge, and has utilized that knowledge for a variety of different ways. Though this wasn't always a good thing.
Thea: Yeah, people were kind of weirded out by her obsession over knowledge, and it didn't help that she was pretty bossy, a know-it-all, and a stickler for rules.
Bryant: Obviously hurt by the mockery and snide remarks, Hermione retreated into the girl's bathroom to cry.
Thea: And then two idiots accidentally locked a troll in there with her, saved her, and she saved their asses. And ever since then, she was friends with Ronald Weasley and Harry Potter. And she's saved their asses multiple times after that too.
Bryant: Thanks to the immense knowledge that she held.
Arsenal/Abilities:
-Encyclopedic memory and knowledge
-Wand
-Charms
=Expelliarmus
=Stupefy
=Bombarda
=Incendio
=Wingardium Leviosa
=Lacarnum Inflamari
=Immobulus
=Arresto Momentum
=Obliviate
=Confundus
=Accio
=Homenum Revelio
=Protego
=Avis
-Counter-Spells
=Finite Incantatem
-Jinxes
=Oppugno
-Curses
=Petrificus Totalus
=Reducto
=Confringo
-Apparition
=Teleportation
-Unforgivables
=Imperio
=Crucio
=Avada Kedavra
-Time Turner
Thea: She's got spells for days! With Expelliarmus, she can disarm opponents. Stupefy can knock them out if they're not tough like Hagrid, Bombarda and Reducto are basically explosion spells, Incendio is fire spells, Immobulus freezes targets in place, Arresto Momentum takes away their momentum, Accio summons targets to her, Homenum Revalio finds targets, Protego is a shield, and more!
Bryant: With Finite Incantatem, she can undo enchantments and make certain magical items explode. Avis and Oppugno are combo spells which allow her to summon and attack with canaries. Her Petrificus Totalus forces opponents to be immobile, and Confringo is a concussive fireball.
Thea: She can teleport with Apparition, without needing a wand. And while these are illegal, Hermione knows the theories behind the Three Unforgivable Curses, which is usually enough for her to use them. These curses are illegal for a reason! Imperio controls the mind, even though it can be shaken off. Crucio is the torture curse, even though it can also be shaken off. Uh… why are these such big deals again?
Bryant: Not everyone can shake these off so easily. To date, only Harry Potter was able to shake off the effects of Imperio on his first try, and not only is he a prodigy in many ways with unbelievable willpower, but he wasn't able to shake it off completely. And those two spells pale in comparison to the final spell, Avada Kedavra. A spell which targets its victim's soul and rips it from their body.
Thea: That, doesn't seem safe.
Bryant: Ya think?
Thea: She's also got Transfiguration, which lets her create and change things whenever and however she wants. Making them out of thin air, turning rocks to dogs, all that jazz.
Bryant: Hermione also has one extremely useful tool. The Time Turner. By flipping the Time Turner, she can go back in time one hour per turn. And this creates another her, though that her wouldn't be able to know that she was there.
Thea: What?
Bryant: Basically, she can create clones of herself by going back in time.
Thea: Oh… kay?
Bryant: Though seeing another you from the past is usually restricted, as there have been moments where the past version attacked the future version, thinking them to be an evil clone.
Thea: Yeah, the Time Turner got taken away by McGonagall by the end of her third year, but why not give it to her?
Bryant: Hermione has proven herself to be a useful teammate on multiple different occasions.
Achievements:
-Smartest student in Gryffindor, possibly Hogwarts
-Recognized different potions by smelling them
-Destroyed a brick wall
-Defeated groups of Death Eaters
-Threw Harry into a small hole while being thrown about by a tree
-Mastered non-verbal spells
-Could use many advanced spells before everyone else
Bryant: Hermione is regarded to be one of, if not the, smartest witch in Hogwarts. She passed each of her classes with flying colors, and her smarts showed themselves in combat.
Thea: She can cast non-verbal spells before her classmates, learned a bunch of advanced spells by herself in her first year, can recognize different kinds of potions by smelling them, could make a variety of different potions by herself, and being a Muggle-born human rather than a pure-blood wizard means she can use logic better than other people. You know, for a group of people that views themselves as better than others, they sure are missing something really important.
Bryant: Indeed. Hermione has also showcased different forms of destructive abilities. Her Bombarda could destroy a portion of a wall with ease, and she's shown to be able to use such a spell with great precision.
Thea: She was swinging around on the Whomping Willow, a tree that knows how to box, and managed to throw Harry into a three-foot wide hole! You know how hard that is?
Bryant: Harry himself is no slouch when it comes to speed. He's fast enough to perform a Wronski Feint, which involves flying on a broomstick straight towards the ground and pulling up at the last second. Harry has been able to perform this feat on numerous occasions, even when riding his Firebolt. A broomstick capable of flying at speeds around 150 miles per hour. And Harry once felt his toes graze grass. Assuming the bottom portion of his legs were around 1.5 feet, this meant that he had to have pulled up in less than 0.007 seconds.
Thea: That's 14 times faster than the fastest human reaction possible. And Hermione is capable of matching Harry!
Bryant: But Hermione isn't a perfect witch.
Weaknesses:
-Relies heavily on logic and reasoning
-Has a tendency to panic in actual panic
-Rather close-minded at time
-Magic needs concentration
Bryant: While Hermione is one of the more logical thinkers of the wizarding community, this results in her relying heavily on logic and reasoning. This causes her to be rather close-minded, and not really good at thinking outside of the box. And while she has proven herself to be rather inventive in combat, she relies on already existing spells and strategies, rather than her own cleverness.
Thea: She also has a habit of panicking. Like the time where she completely forgot that she was a witch and tried to look for sticks to make a fire despite having a spell that's literally made for using fire!
Bryant: And her habit of panicking also is a flaw due to the fact that magic needs concentration and a clear line of sight. Without these two factors, even the most useful of spells can be completely wasted.
Thea: Or backfires, like her Apparition. If she's not focused, then she can lose an entire limb when she teleports. Not very comfortable.
Bryant: Still, Hermione is undoubtedly one of the most reliable allies that Harry Potter has ever had. She's been able to aid her allies in protecting their friends, family, and even the world.
Thea: Don't try to enter a contest with this witch!
(Hermione) Fear of a name only increases fear of the thing itself.
-Line Break-
Bryant: Alright, the stage is set, time to start this dance.
Thea: Battle ready, set, GO!
-Line Break-
Annabeth sat at the edge of a dock, reading through a book written in Ancient Greek. It was a new book that Sally Jackson, her boyfriend's mother, had written after the birth of his baby sister, and even translated into Ancient Greek for Annabeth. And so far, she was enjoying it very, very much. She was nearing the end of a major conflict, and she was hooked.
"By the gods… Sally really outdid herself this time!" Annabeth murmured as she read through the book.
'What happens next?' Annabeth continued to read, frantically trying to see the next event. Her eyes began to widen, and she began to turn the page. A sudden crack in the air startled her, and her eyes widened further in horror as the book fell into the water with a splash.
"No…" Annabeth said weakly as she reached to where the book fell.
"Excuse me." Hermione said as she walked up to Annabeth. "But I was told that you have some magic items. I'm here to confiscate them."
"First, you make me drop my book. A book that my boyfriend's mom spent days translating just so I can read it. You made me drop it right when I was about to reach the climax." Annabeth said as she got up menacingly. Hermione took a step back as she blinked.
"And now you're trying to take my gear? I don't think so missy!" Annabeth snapped.
"Hey now! I'm just trying to do my job!" Hermione snapped.
"F*ck your job!" Annabeth snapped back.
"That's rude!"
"I'm in a bad mood now!"
"Look, just let me have your magic items, and we'll go our separate ways." Hermione said grumpily.
"Try and take it." Annabeth challenged as she got into a stance. Hermione took out her wand and prepared herself.
It All Depends On Your Skill!
Fight!
"Stupefy!" Hermione casted the magic spell, firing a bolt of red energy at Annabeth. The demigod quickly dodged the attack by rolling towards Hermione and delivered a sucker punch. Hermione yelped in pain as she staggered back. Annabeth dropped down and swept Hermione's feet out from under her before grabbing her and slamming her down in a piledriver. Hermione coughed as the wind was knocked out of her. Annabeth yelled as she seized Hermione by her ankles and spun her around and threw her into the lake.
"Well, that was easy." Annabeth said as she slapped the dust off her hands and walked away. A loud crack made her flinch, and Hermione punched as she teleported back in. Annabeth gritted her teeth and pushed through the punch before delivering her own back. Hermione gasped for air as Annabeth's punch sank into her gut before she Apparated away. Annabeth whirled around and spotted Hermione coughing at the side.
"Who are you? A daughter of Hecate? Or maybe a member of the House of Life." Annabeth theorized as she pulled out her knife. Hermione grimaced at the sight of it.
'I have to stay away from her! She's too strong.' Hermione thought. Annabeth shifted her weight and charged towards the bushy haired witch.
"Stupefy!" Hermione casted, shooting another red bolt. Annabeth brought her knife up and planted her feet as she was knocked slightly back from blocking the spell. Hermione quickly fired several colorful spells towards Annabeth. The blonde charged, using her knife to knock away some spells and dodging the others. Annabeth swung her knife at Hermione, only for the witch to dodge and Apparate away again.
"Expelliarmus!" Hermione casted the Disarming Charm. Annabeth raised her knife to block it again, only to grunt as she was sent flying and her knife flew to the side. Hermione took this chance to fire multiple spells towards Annabeth. The blonde dodged under the attacks and grunted as she rolled behind a tree.
"Bombarda Maxima!" Hermione casted, firing a spell towards the tree and causing it to explode. Annabeth yelled as she was sent flying. She dodged under another spell.
'Stupefy? Expelliarmus? Bombarda Maxima? The spells she's using… They're not Greek or Egyptian. They're Latin words! Is she a Roman Demigod?' Annabeth grunted as she ducked under another spell and pulled out her Drakon Bone Sword.
'She has another weapon? She's not a witch, and she's not a regular Muggle either. Who and what is she?' Hermione thought as she dodged a sword swing from Annabeth and tried to counter with another Disarming Charm. Annabeth dodged this time and swung upwards. Hermione yelped as the sword swing cut the corner of her scarf.
'I have to try something else!' she thought.
"Immobulus!" Hermione casted as she managed to hit Annabeth with the point-blank spell. Annabeth gasped as she was suddenly frozen in place. Hermione fired a Stunning Spell into Annabeth's face, causing her to collapse. Hermione sighed as she walked past Annabeth and picked up her Drakon Bone Sword.
"That was scary…" Hermione said as she walked towards the knife.
"Where are you going?" Hermione whirled around, but suddenly found herself being hoisted up and slammed down. Annabeth hoisted Hermione up again and spun her around before tossing her away.
"How?!" Hermione gasped.
'Is she half-giant?!'
'I almost passed out there. I have to be more careful.' Annabeth sighed mentally before she charged towards Hermione. The bushy haired witch fired a spell to try to slow her down, only for Annabeth to dodge to the side and counter with a punch. The Drakon Bone Sword was dropped to the ground and was scooped up by Annabeth who swung it towards Hermione. Hermione dodged the sword swing, but tripped on a rock and fell down on her butt.
"Protego!" Hermione casted the Shield Spell, blocking another swing. Annabeth kicked off the invisible shield and somersaulted backwards.
'If she can use spells with Latin roots, maybe I can predict what her spells can do next.' Annabeth thought as she landed.
'I have to find a spell I can use. I might have to use some of the Unforgivables if this keeps going.' Hermione thought.
"Avis! Oppugno!" a swarm of canaries appeared and shot towards Annabeth. The half-blood swung her sword, killing several of the canaries before charging towards Hermione with her sword positioned for a thrust.
"Protego!" the shield popped up between them, and the point of the sword slammed into it. Annabeth jumped back as Hermione dropped the shield and shot another Expelliarmus. Annabeth dodged the spell and tried to slash Hermione again, only to get blocked by another shield. Hermione fired more spells, causing Annabeth to dash to the side. She darted towards Hermione and swung at her, only for Hermione to Apparate away. Annabeth's eyes shot to the side, and she ducked under another spell before throwing her sword. Hermione cried out in pain as the sword cut into her side. She pointed her wand at Annabeth again.
"Lacarnum Inflamari!" a stream of blue fire shot from the end of her wand towards Annabeth. The demigod threw herself backwards as the flames rolled over her. When the flames disappeared, Annabeth was gone.
"Where did she go?" Hermione looked around. Her face distorted as she was punched by the now invisible Annabeth. She flung another spell where the punch came from, only to have a kick slammed into her stomach. Hermione groaned and rolled away.
"Homenum Revelio!" Hermione casted another spell. Annabeth suddenly was surrounded by a cloud of silver mist.
"A revealing spell?!"
"Accio!" Annabeth's cap suddenly shot off her head, causing her to lunge for it. She seized the cap, managing to stop it.
"Finite Incantatem!" Hermione casted. The cap began to glow.
"Uh oh!" Annabeth said before tossing the cap towards Hermione. It exploded in between them, creating a cloud of dust.
"Confundo!" Hermione said from inside the cloud. Annabeth groaned as a sense of vertigo covered her mind.
'I… can't… Come on! Rely on your instincts!' Annabeth groaned in her mind.
"Petrificus Totalus!" Hermione said. Annabeth dropped to the ground, dodging the spell. She managed to shake off the spell and seized a rock, hurling it towards Hermione. A Shield Charm blocked the projectile, but Annabeth managed to grab the top of the invisible shield and hurl herself over it. She slammed her feet into Hermione's face, slamming her against the shield. Hermione tried to blink the spots out of her sight, but Annabeth punched her against the shield again.
"Give up!" Annabeth said as she kicked Hermione in the chin. The witch managed to regain enough of her thoughts to Apparate away. Annabeth spotted her knife nearby and lunged for it, only for Hermione to Apparate nearby and send her flying with a Reducto. Annabeth landed on the ground with a grunt.
"Come on, don't lose! You're the daughter of Athena dammit!" Annabeth grunted as she pushed herself up.
"Imperio!" Hermione casted. The spell hit Annabeth, filling her with a strange sense of warmth.
"Surrender quietly." Hermione's voice filled her mind. Annabeth felt her muscles begin to relax.
'No… no… NO!' Annabeth's own voice roared, and she broke free.
"How?!" Hermione panicked. Annabeth seized another rock and hurled it towards Hermione, who blocked it with another Shield. The half-blood took this chance to lunge for her knife again and grabbed it successfully. She rolled to her feet and charged towards the witch. Hermione gritted her teeth and turned her wand to Annabeth again. A green light began to glow at the end.
"Avada-!" the knife flashed in the light as it flew towards Hermione. Hermione yelped as she ducked under the blade. Annabeth closed the distance and tackled Hermione. The two rolled across the ground and landed with Annabeth holding Hermione in a headlock from behind. Hermione gasped as she tried to Apparate away. The two teleported around the battlefield with loud cracks, but Annabeth held on.
"Enough!" she yelled as she grabbed Hermione by the face and snapped her neck. The two fell onto the ground, Annabeth rolling away from the dead witch. She panted as she pushed herself up.
"That, was not worth it."
KO!
Thea: That's the end of that!
Bryant: This was a closer fight than one would think. Hermione's wide variety of spells not only meant that she had the edge in range, but also versatility. With spells such as Obliviate, Petrificus Totalus, and maybe even Avada Kedavra, she possessed multiple ways to end this fight. And she could counter much of what Annabeth had.
Thea: Like how Protego could block what Annabeth threw at her and Apparition could keep that range advantage. And with Accio and Homenum Revelio, she could counter Annabeth's invisibility cap and even undo its magic with Finite Incantatem. If we ignored numbers, Annabeth would've lost. If we ignored numbers. Which we don't.
Bryant: Hermione may have had the edge in long-ranged combat, but Annabeth had her beat when it came to close-ranged combat.
Thea: Annabeth was strong enough to hold up the sky and was trained in weapons and martial arts since she was seven. If Annabeth managed to get within range of Hermione, she could easily take Hermione out just as easily as Hermione could her, if not easier.
Bryant: But the question to be answered here, is could she close the gap between them fast enough?
Thea: Hell yeah! Hermione scaling to Harry means she can react in 0.007 seconds, or 14 times faster than a human being at their peak. But Annabeth could scale to Percy! Who can react in 0.00003 seconds!
Bryant: That's 3,333 times faster than a peak human's reaction speed, and almost 240 times faster than Hermione. So even with Hermione's wide variety of spells, Annabeth could easily avoid the spells and close the gap.
Thea: Even if Hermione managed to pull off a successful Booster Gold on Annabeth with her Time Turner, Annabeth would've been fast enough to keep up with all of her clones at once. And that's assuming that Hermione can survive long enough to use the Time Turner in the first place!
Bryant: And with Annabeth's incredible training and speed, it should be easy for her to pressure Hermione, making it harder for her to keep her focus. Which is detrimental as magic requires concentration. And Hermione has been noted to often struggle with keeping her cool in intense fights.
Thea: And Annabeth wasn't completely defenseless against Hermione's magic. Based on the journeys taken in both of their stories, and Annabeth's biology, she could just go through the Imperio. And while the Stupefy might be able to affect her a little bit, it's been powered through before, like with Hagrid. I think that one of the major Greek gods gives better DNA than a giant that's not even a deity.
Bryant: And Annabeth's immense strength and durability meant that Hermione's more offensive and destructive spells wouldn't be able to do anything either.
Thea: Even Avada Kedavra isn't a sure-fire win move.
Bryant: Recall how Annabeth could withstand the effects of Backbiter. A weapon which targets the target's soul. The same way that Avada Kedavra does. While this doesn't mean that Annabeth is immune to effects, she would still be able to withstand it long enough to realize what it does.
Thea: And that's assuming she doesn't figure it out with the incantations. She is smart enough to know Latin after all. Speaking of which, time to answer the question everyone wants to know. Who had the better mind?
Bryant: This is definitely a question that's difficult to answer. It ultimately comes down to seeing how they think. Hermione relies on her vast knowledge obtained from her studies, using that to apply specific solutions to specific problems. Having the right spell for the right situation at the right time. However, Annabeth has proven herself capable of using what she has at hand. Utilizing her mind to turn the tides of a disadvantageous situation.
Thea: Think of it like this. Hermione's whole shtick is having the right tool for the job, while Annabeth's whole shtick is using any tool the right way.
Bryant: This means that Annabeth had a more flexible way of thinking compared to Hermione, meaning that she could adapt to just about anything that Hermione could throw at her.
Thea: Annabeth just had the speed, strength, DNA, and mind needed to take Hermione down. She's no Granger to victory. Which means that the winner of this WI Battle is Annabeth Chase!
Ima be honest. Percy vs Harry is definitely a more popular matchup, and has more connections. But I felt that this matchup was a little closer and even than with Percy vs Harry. Plus, I prefer Percy vs Noelle a little more for the same reason. And I wanted to try my hand at figuring out which of these two girls are smarter. And no, I didn't just say that Annabeth was smarter just because she's the daughter of Athena. That's the loser's way out. Anyways, as per the usual, leave a review. Azure out!
"Oh man! The Sinnoh Remakes are in just a couple of months! I'm so excited!" Thea cheered as she looked at the trailers again.
"We won't be able to enjoy them right away, but it's still exciting." Bryant said as he watched them next to Thea.
"Hey, let's celebrate this!"
"Sure. We can do something for when they come out."
"Nah, that's too long."
"What?"
"Let's start right now!"
"Okay? What do you want to do?"
"Oh come on. We reached the tenth chapter of this set. You should know what I'm thinking of." Thea said as she pulled out a pokeball.
"Right. Let's do it." Bryant said as he looked at the trailer, which showed the three starters.
