Charlie was prepared to move Heaven and Earth to get me to Forks. Renee had balked at first, but Phil mentioned that drafts were coming up soon, and he wanted to be ready to go wherever he was needed. I rolled my eyes, like he'd really get signed, I thought to myself bitterly. Renee, however, thought the world of him, and as soon as he mentioned his career, she was ready to drop everything for him.

To say they had a short engagement was an understatement. They were engaged Tuesday night, I called Charlie on Wednesday, spoke to mom and Phil Thursday when she got home from her Tai Chi class. By Friday they had visited the courthouse and I was packing my bags. I was flying out this afternoon and would start school on Monday, along with the rest of the Forks Highschool. Hopefully being the new kid at the start of the year I could avoid the introduction phase and blend in.

I had three bags - an old suitcase of mom's that had my winter clothes, a duffle bag Phil loaned me, practically bursting at the seams with my books, and a backpack of my toiletries, laptop, and other necessities. I had assured Charlie there was no need to bring more than this; looking around my room there wasn't much more. I wasn't like other kids my age - there were no gaming systems to haul across the country, the only pair of sneakers I owned were on my feet, and my grandmother's ring was securely on my finger - there was no makeup, jewelry, or accessories to pack. I kept telling Charlie I liked the simple things in life; maybe once he picked me up from the airport he'd understand.

Phil was going to drive me to the airport. Renee was busy packing the rest of the house, having just placed the "for sale" sign in the yard. I guess I wouldn't be able to come back if things didn't work out. Tears blurred my vision as we drove away; my mother didn't even say goodbye.

EPOV

It's been forty-eight hours since Alice had seen our lives turned upside down by an insignificant human girl who wasn't even in the state yet. Why this girl, this Bella Swan had to come to Forks and invade our peaceful life was the only thought on my mind. I had to know all I could about her, figure her out, and determine why she was so fully entrenched in our lives.

It had been a normal Wednesday night, well, as normal as it can be when you are a vampire. I was out hunting, and just finished off a lynx that was slinking around near the Canadian border, when Rosalie interrupted my thoughts.

Esme called. She said it's important we get back soon.

I could tell you with certainty just how many times we were asked to come home from a hunting trip before we were ready. None. Zilch. Nada. Even when Alice and Jasper joined our family and Emmett and I were out we hadn't been called back. I didn't bother meeting up with Rosalie and Emmett, I knew we would all make it home just fine, but I knew my family was in danger, and I was needed quickly.

How shocked I was when I was a few miles out and could hear my family's thoughts, a mad cacophony in my head.

Bella Swan. Bella Swan. Bella Swan.

I wish Alice would speak to me. She's never kept me out like this. What is she waiting for?

I do hope they will be home soon; I've never seen Alice in a panic like this before.

Physically there's nothing wrong, I can't determine just what is wrong since she won't tell me. I do hope Edward is home soon, he'll be able to find out what's going on in her head.

Ah, so I had been fetched to spy on my sister's inner workings. I slowed to a more human pace, jogging through the forest like an olympic sprinter, instead of a blur of a vampire as I tried to tune her out; I usually tried to ignore my family's inner voices, and found it almost sickening that I was expected to listen in. If she wanted to keep her thoughts to herself, who was I to force them out?

Despite this, I couldn't tune her out.

Bella Swan. Bella Swan. Bella Swan.

Who the hell was Bella Swan?!

I knew they had heard me when Jasper, Esme, and Carlisle started speaking to me directly.

Please, Edward. You have to find out what's going on.

I just nodded as I entered the house and made my way to my sister, kneeling down next to Jasper and reaching a hand out towards Alice. I didn't have to speak, she knew I was there; her thoughts were still a constant stream of Bella Swan over and over though. "Alice, who is Bella Swan?" Suddenly my brain was flooded with picture upon picture. Beautiful brown eyes bored into mine as I watched a girl I'd never seen before make her way towards me in Chemistry. The same girl, now by my side in my meadow, my arm above her shoulder, pinning her between a tree and my body, as I leaned in and pressed a kiss to her lips. The girl's eyes, no longer brown but a deep bright red, as she sat up from a makeshift bed in Carlisle's study. Then there she was, eyes back to brown, shining with unshed tears as Alice curled her eyelashes and Rosalie pinned her hair, an antique looking white dress hung up behind her.

"Bella," I whispered, entranced as I watched her dance through Alice's mind. It felt like I knew her, loved her, despite knowing nothing past her name and the exact shade of brown her eyes were.

A/N: Just as a general heads up, warning, and apology - I'm not planning this fic out as I write. I didn't intend to write Renee like this, but once I started, I felt it fit. We're all riding this crazy train together, no destination in mind; thanks for joining me on this adventure! I'm also not going to pick specific days to update, let's all be surprised together!
