This current chapter is a Rewrite. The beginning is largely the same, but a good deal has been added to the middle, with the ending being 100% original.
When the Doctor was but a boy, there was a great war. A war across all of time and space. A war for the soul of the universe. A war he fought in... a war he ended...
I'm more interested in what happened after that. When the Doctor's last face, stepped beyond mortal flesh. That won't happen for a few more faces. But it will happen...
When the Doctor came to my dimension. We had been deemed unworthy, by the Q. And so were set for execution... more like genocide, but such semantics matter little to deities.
The Doctor... saved us. Not only saved us, but helped us, inspired us. Gave us the means to stand on our own. In return, we Yokai swore to protect all under the Doctor's domain.
And today... in gratitude for all the Doctor has done for my people... I slaughtered his kin.
• Earlier That Day.
Hashirama Senju stood before a god. Though the term "god" did not mean the same thing as the way their ancestors used it. Oh sure, Shinobi believed in higher beings, and cosmic deities, but those weren't their definitions of a "god". A Shinobi "god" was something much more mundane, though near impossible to achieve.
Nowadays "god" was just a power level. Someone capable of easily besting an S Rank Shinobi, or even the Rare Kage level.
A modern Shinobi's understanding of a "god", was a planet buster. Someone with enough raw Chakra, to destroy the planet, in a single attack. The ability to channel their Chakra into 10, to the 32nd power, joules of force.
There was no way to prove if that was the legitimate amount of force needed. Not unless one of these "gods" decided to destroy the planet. Which, Hashirama had his doubts, anyone was THAT stupid.
A "god of Shinobi" might be theoretically powerful enough to destroy the world. However, they had no hope of surviving such an attack. As not even a Shinobi god could survive the vacuum of space.
Hashirama was not threatened by this god, because he, too, held such raw power. As did his best friend, Madara. It was nothing more then a Chakra output. It didn't define skill or talent, two separate things.
Madara, was his best friend. In all, but blood, his brother. Hashirama couldn't understand.
"Why are you doing this?" Hashirama begged of his friend.
"You're still such a child," Madara shook his head. "Thinking you can save the world. So you gathered a few clans together. Managed to convince them to pause in the killing... and all that resulted in is OTHER villages popping up, to unite against us.
"It's human nature... I've seen the truth... the only way to truly save the world, is to burn it to the ground, and rebuild from what's left of the ashes... the only way to stop war... is to force everyone else, everyone across this entire planet, to bow before a singular god... and too become powerful enough to do that..."
Madara's sword jerked forward, too fast, and too unexpected, for Hashirama to stop. Moments before it plunged his body... it stopped. Two fingers, and a thumb, were now holding the sides of the blade... but they weren't Madara's. Not even Hashirama's...
"Hagoromo?" Madara's eyes widen.
The grey skinned demon merely looked at Madara. He made no movement, not even a twitch. Merely looked... and the Uchiha was thrown back by some invisible force.
The demon then looked at Hashirama.
The younger god gulped before the guardian of all Shinobi. "I thought you forbid the Uzumaki from joining us?"
"That was more my grandfather's decision," Informed the demon. "He believes the world isn't ready for all that my clan can offer... but that doesn't mean I am willing to stand by, and let this happen."
Madara jumped to his feet. "So the demon of the Uzumaki, chooses to show his face." The Uchiha smiled.
In return, Hagoromo gave a cocky grin. "I'm kinda the opposite of a demon. You'll find, my mind isn't so easily enslaved." A metal wand, materializing in his left hand, while an unholy blade appeared in the other. Each made out of a blood red metal.
"You aren't the only immortal to challenge me," Madara bit into his thumb, before making a series of hand seals.
The distance was to great to get to him in time. So Hagoromo attempted to freeze reality... only to be countered by the Eyes of a Master Uchiha.
Madara smirked, as he completed the seals. Before slamming his bloody hand on the ground.
Yokai, We are beings of pure Chakra. With our very blood being made of liquid Lyrium, the physical mineral of compressed magic.
While this gives us great magical power, and one hell of a temper, it also makes us especially vulnerable to blood magic. For as long as Yokai have visited the mortal verse, Blood Mages have corrupted our minds. Forcing us to act against our will...
I could only watch as that vile Uchiha, with eyes fueled by the darkest of blood magics, moved my body like a puppet.
My paws slashed, teeth crunched... and my mind screamed. Begging for it to stop, but unable to even speak the words... as I committed an unforgivable sin.
• Hours Later:
Kurama stood to the side, in the form of a beautiful human woman, as Hashirama was laid to the ground. The Uzumaki were on their way... to retrieve Susan's body.
"This is my fault..." The demon could not help but blame himself.
"You mustn't do that to yourself." Tobirama spoke to the S rank demon. Doing his best to comfort it... as his brother would have. Hashirama really was far too pure for this world...
It was far too tragic, the man's death was the catalist, that finally cemented the peace. Clans from all over the country, gathered for the funeral. Many of their leaders expressing their condolences... before pleading their fealty.
Hashirama's dream was finally coming true. He started this, gathered a few clans together, was in the middle of peace talks with others. A united home, for all clans of Fire Country. Not just a cease fire, but coming to live together in outright harmony and cooperation. A true village... the first of it's kind... and Hashirama wasn't around to see it.
It was up to Tobirama, to honor his brother, by leading Konoha into the future... and doing everything within his power to make sure it didn't fall.
But first, he had a demon to consul. "The fault lays solely with Madara."
Kurama turned her eyes at the albino. "The Doctor, whom you call, 'Lord Uzumaki' created this world... and his grandchild declared it their home... I... I killed him, slaughtered the child of god. It does not matter if my paws acted against my will. It was they that killed her... it was me."
He seemed to have a trouble with pronouns. Tobirama didn't bat an eye at that. Gender had always been optional, for demons.
"I killed her... after everything the Doctor did to save my creatures... I repay that with the death of his kin..." Kurama suddenly stood tall, "I intend to repay that debt.
"This system will no doubt suffer without Hagoromo's guidance... so I will take her place. This System, this entire Mega System, is now under MY protection... I swear this on my soul. I shall protect the Doctor's chosen... and perhaps, in the process, I will find atonement."
Kurama looked at the sky, and with a mere thought, broke all ties to demon world. Binding his destiny to this reality. Let the fates of this world, do with him what they will. The humans would never understand this sacrifice, and he would never see his home again. His body could no longer survive there. He was now a part of the mortal realm... this could not be undone, nor replaced with another realm.
He could feel, the light of his immortality, leave him. Oh he was still a being of living Chakra. Still had his endless lifespan... but he could now be killed, like any mortal creature.
This was his penance... he would just have to hope the Doctor took it to heart.
• Present Day:
Kushina sat before her ancestral god... gobsmacked by his stupidity. "You mean to tell me, you have been living on our planet for over 10,000 years, and you have no idea what a 'God of Shinobi' is!?"
The old man, with a face no older then her own, blushed as he scratched his cheek. He was currently enjoying a lovely dinner she had prepared, while Minato drank his tea... as he hid all the booze in the house, in case Kushina became tempted.
She might like her sake, but she wasn't going to drink well pregnant. Honestly!!! Did he think she had no self control!?
Regardless of that, she had more pressing matters on her mind... mostly the fact that her ancestral god was, apparently, an idiot.
"Actually, I've only been on this planet for a little less then a year." Lord Uzumaki shrugged. "Well, A galactic standard year, which is about 3.6 of your Solar Cycles." He rambled, before refocusing himself. "Regardless, I've just been popping about history. Fulfilling Paradoxes whenever one is brought to my attention. Been living with the Uzumaki, as much as I can."
Kushina sighed, "So your epic battle with Madera, the duel that left him crippled for near two hundred years."
The Doctor smiled, guiltily. "It hasn't actually happened yet, from my perspective... and for Paradoxes sake, I have to leave him alive. Otherwise..." he trailed off.
"Yes yes," Kushina waved off. "Catastrophic time rupture. Which will destroy our whole planet, and likely a 4th of our galaxy with it. I'm an Uzumaki, Doctor, I know the dangers of paradoxes. Which is why my people have been focusing our resources on the present. Instead of time travel. We simply don't want that responsibility."
Lord Uzumaki... blinked. Then, slowly, a smile formed. "Then you might be smarter then my own people." He began to beam with pride.
Kushina sighed. "Whatever, what you need to understand, is Gods of Shinobi, aren't literally gods. They are planet Busters. Shinobi, born with such levels of Chakra, they could potentially destroy the world. It's extremely rare. With that power going even beyond the kage level. Only one is born, every few generations.
"Madera achieved his 'god' status, artificially. Through stealing his brother's eyes, and grafting them to his own power. Rumor has it he is working on ascending into a demon."
The Doctor blinked again. "What? Does he plan on hiding in Demon world for a few centuries? I doubt the Yokai could resist eating him."
Minato snickered, while Kushina pulled her hair. Though her husband took pity on her, by explaining. "There are forbidden rituals, to cause a shinobi to abandon their mortal flesh, and live as a Chakra construct.
"However, these individuals aren't Yokai... more like a category of leech demon. They require a host to survive, whom they slowly absorb their essence."
Kushina butt-in, "It's fairly obvious why this technique is forbidden."
Minato nodded, "Our intelligence suggests Madara has been attempting to modify the Technique, so he won't need a host. Though we don't know how close he is."
"The Yokai, themselves, are largely peaceful. Sometimes one's instincts get the better of it, and we are forced to seal it. However, that is rare. They claim to be here to protect us. Often giving us summoning contracts, to aid worthy shinobi. But mostly just patrolling the Mega System... on your orders."
The Doctor groaned, rubbing his head. "Great, now I got to worry about that!"
Minato shrugged, taking a drink from his tea, before answering. "From what I understand. You don't have to worry about 'uplifting' the Yokai, for a few more faces."
The Doctor blinked, then frowned. "You know... I didn't think I'd actually spend the rest of my days on this world..." it was a comforting thought.
"You don't," Minato casually crushed the Doctor's dreams.
Kushina suddenly whacked her husband upside the head. The Man yelped, but managed not to spill his tea.
"Why would you tell him that!" She didn't really ask. "Now he has to leave!!!"
Minato gaped at her, " What do you mean?"
"Time Paradoxes you nit-wit!" Kushina snapped."He literally can't 'spend all his days with family', because YOU told him he won't."
Minato's eyes widened, as he remembered that tid bit, from the Doctor's head.
"It's fine," The Doctor assured. "At least I'm allowed an interest in the planet. Even if I can't stay here."
Minato tried to make it better. "To my understanding, you don't have to leave until you regenerate. Which shouldn't be for-"
Kushina whacked him again, and this time, he did spill his tea. "Who the hell would want to know when they die!!!" Again, she didn't really ask.
The Doctor frowned, "But you know... meaning it will be on one of my trips to the past."
"Or we heard legends from the yokai." She waved off. "Who can say. Either way, it's hearsay, not fact. For all we know, you choose to stay with the Uzumaki clan, under a lower profile. Known only to the clan." She tried to due damage control... and indeed. The added possibilties fogged his future... and gave him a new hope of staying with his descendants, until the world died. Hopefully of natural causes.
