Chapter 6

Lorelai POV

I couldn't believe this. It was the day of Rory's engagement party. I didn't know who Rory was anymore. She'd completely changed from the person that she was when she was at Yale. I mean I knew that she had to grow up but I didn't think that she'd change this much. After everything that she went through with Dean (sleeping with a married man) I definitely thought that she'd learned her lesson but then Logan always had some sort of power over her. I didn't like that fact that she and Colin were rushing into marriage or the fact that he'd adopted Ellie. Granted he and Rory had been together for almost 5 years, I still didn't know that much about him. Plus, I had suspicions that they'd been together off and on before that.

It didn't matter now though. Rory had made up her mind. She'd told me that I could either suck it up and at least pretend to be happy or that she'd keep Ellie from me. Guess I was going to be pretending for a long time.

Colin POV

Rory was struggling. She'd gotten into a fight with Lorelai. I wasn't sure what exactly had happened because she wouldn't tell me but I knew that it had been bad. The day of the fight, Rory came home and started slamming things around in the kitchen. Fortunately, I'd convinced Steph to keep Ellie for the night so that Rory and I could talk about a trip to London at the insistence of my father.

The day of our engagement party had finally come and Rory and I were getting ready. Rory had gotten Lane to watch Ellie for the night since both families would be at the party. I walked into the bedroom to see how much longer Rory would need when I saw her sitting on the edge of the bed putting her shoes on. I leaned against the wall. "You okay?" I asked her.

She looked up at me and smiled. "I'm fine. Why wouldn't I be?" She said.

I let out a sigh. "The fight with your mom. The trip to London. The fact that Logan is bringing Odette tonight. Do I need to keep going?" I said.

She stood up and walked over to me, straightening my tie. "Babe, I promise I'm fine. Would it be nice for my Mom to be happy that everything is finally on track? Yes, of course; but it is what it is. The trip to London…not a big deal. Steph agreed to keep Ellie while we are gone and your mom said that she'd help too. The Odette thing? Yeah, makes me a little nervous but it's not like we could exactly tell him he couldn't bring her, you know?" She said.

I nodded. "I know." I put my hands on her hips and pulled her close to me. "You know that I just have to make sure that your okay." I said.

She leaned up and kissed me gently. "I know and I love you for it. We should go." She said.

When we walked into the country club, I immediately bolted for the bar, knowing that Rory was going to need a drink. While I waited for our drinks, I scanned the room watching Rory. Her mom had cornered her. I stood there and watched in case I needed to rescue her. "She'll come around." I turned to the voice and saw that it was Chris, Rory's dad.

"I hope so. They got into a fight the other day." I told him.

"I know. Rory called me. She hates to disappoint Lorelai. It's always been that way. The two of them against the world. Just give it some time and just be there." He said, patting on my shoulder. I looked over at Chris and gave him a small smile.

When I looked back at Rory, she had her society smile on her face. I grabbed our drinks and headed over to her. I handed her, her drink. "Ror, Mom is looking for you. Said she needed to discuss something with you." I said trying to give her an out.

"Of course." Rory said, slightly cold. "Enjoy the party, Mother." She said before turning and walking off. I followed her.

When we were far enough away from Lorelai, I gently pulled Rory into a corner. "Are you okay?" I asked her.

She shrugged. "I don't know, honestly. She told me that I was making a mistake marrying you, letting you adopt Ellie." She said. I wrapped my arms around her shoulders and held her close. "She thinks that I'm just going to turn into some vapid trophy wife." I felt bad because all Rory wanted was her mother's support. "She hasn't even taken the time to get to know you. She hasn't seen how great you are with Ellie." She said, her voice cracking.

"I know, babe. Look at me." She looked up at me. "First of all, your not going to turn into some vapid trophy wife, because I'm not going to let you. Second of all, Hartford society was completely different when your mom was growing up than it is now. You're an independent woman that fits into society. She just needs time to understand that." I told her.

She nodded. "Did your mom really need to talk to me?" She asked me.

I shook my head. "No. You just looked like you needed a break." I said.

She nodded. "I did. I wasn't sure how much longer I could have handled talking with her." Rory said.

A little while later, Rory and I were talking with our friends when I saw Logan and Odette approaching. I pulled Rory into my side as a comfort measure. "Hey guys." Logan said.

Rory looked up at the sound of his voice. "Logan, hi. Thank you for coming." Rory said in her society voice.

Logan smiled at her. "Rory, this is my wife Odette. Odette, this is Colin's fiance Rory. She went to Yale with all of us." Logan said.

Uh-oh. This was going to be bad. "Odette, it's a pleasure to finally meet you." Rory said, plastering her society smile on her face. "I'm so happy that you could join us tonight." This wasn't going to be pretty. "Excuse me. I need some air." She said, making her way outside.

I looked at Steph and she nodded, then she followed Rory outside. "Oh Logan, I see your mother. I'm going to say hi. It was lovely to see you all." Odette said before making her way to Shira.

Logan looked at me. "What?" He asked.

"Are you kidding me?" I asked.

"What did I say?" Logan asked.

"Dude, did you tell Odette anything about Rory?" Finn asked him.

Logan ran a hand over his face. "No. She knows nothing about mine and Rory's history." Logan said.

"How can you be so stupid? You realize that you just pissed off my fiance, who is already in a crappy mood when she should be happy?" I said.

Logan looked shocked. "Why is she in a crappy mood? It's your engagement party, she should be happy." Logan said.

"She should, yes. But she's not." I said. I couldn't tell him that she was fighting with Lorelai. Or the fact that Lorelai wasn't happy that we were getting married. Or that Lorelai hadn't wanted me to adopt Ellie.

Rory POV

I couldn't believe him. Logan had introduced me as just a girl that had gone to Yale with them. It was like the three years that I was his girlfriend meant nothing to him. It was as if we never lived together or that he'd proposed to me. Let alone our Vegas agreement. Or the fact that he was Ellie's biological father. Surely, if she'd talked to Shira about coming to the party, Shira would have told her about mine and Logan's history.

I was lost in my thoughts and enjoying the cool night air when I heard the sound of heels clicking behind me. "You okay?" I heard Steph ask.

I shrugged before I turned and faced her. "I don't know Steph. I mean, was it like nothing between us meant anything to him." I said.

"I honestly don't think that he meant for it to come across like that, Ror. I think that Logan is in a really tough spot." Steph said sincerely. "I mean, how exactly is he supposed to tell his wife everything that the two of you have been through. Not to mention the fact that his parents are here…do you really want to open that can of worms?"

I thought about what Steph was saying for a minute. She was right. I mean, sure…I could go in there and confront Odette and Logan's parents…tell them the truth, that Logan and I had been seeing each other majority of his relationship with Odette and that he was the biological father of my daughter, but in actuality what would that really accomplish? Nothing that's what! It was bad enough that my grandmothers and Holly had invited Mitchum and Shira but it would be really bad if I went in there and confronted them and aired my dirty laundry in front of half of Hartford. "Your right. Logan's been put in a tough spot but I mean, he could have introduced me as a friend, you know? We were friends before we ever dated." I said.

Steph hugged me. "Your right. He could have." She said. "Come on, let's get a drink. Holly and Andrew should be making their speech soon."

I nodded. Steph and I made our way back inside and headed straight to the bar. Right as we got to the bar, Steph said that she saw someone that she needed to talk to and said that she'd catch up with me in a bit. While I waited on my drink, I looked beside me and saw none other than Honor Huntzberger. "Honor." I said.

"Rory. Always a pleasure." Honor said.

I turned to face her. "What can I do for you?" I asked her, slightly cold.

"Hmm…I sense that my brother might possibly have something to do with your mood." Honor said.

I let out a sigh. "Just a little. He introduced me to Odette as a girl that went to Yale with them." I told her quietly.

"Seriously?" Honor asked surprised.

"Yeah. Surprised me too." I said.

"Huh." She said as the bartender handed us a couple of martinis. "Where's Ellie?" She asked. I raised my eyebrow at her. "Yeah. I know. He called me the day you found out you were pregnant. I was going to reach out, but then I thought that if you wanted me to know, that you'd pick up the phone and call me."

I nodded, understanding what she was saying. She was hurt that I had confided in her. "Do they know?" I asked.

Honor shook her head. "Nope. He said that he wouldn't be a part of her life because of the circumstances, which he knows was his own doing, by the way, but he said that he wouldn't say anything unless you wanted to." Honor told me. I should have known that he'd tell Honor about Ellie. "I'd love to meet her. You can introduce whatever way that you want to. I just would like to meet her."

I nodded. "Can I think about it?" I asked.

"Of course." She said before walking away.

About an hour later, I was standing with Colin next to his parents when his Dad got everyone's attention. "I want to thank everyone for coming tonight. Holly and I, couldn't be happier for Colin and Rory. I remember when Colin called me and told me that he and Rory were dating. At first I thought that he was joking with me, I mean I couldn't wrap my head around it…but then he brought her home for dinner and everything that I'd always heard about her was true. She's witty and smart, and just like Colin and Richard had always told me she could debate with the best of them." Andrew said. "The more that Holly and I got to know Rory, the more that I realized that Rory and Colin were perfect for each other." Andrew smiled. "Rory, Colin, I hope that the two of you will be as happy as Holly and I have been. Congratulations!"

There was a cheer of Congratulations through the room.

After Andrew finished his speech, Colin and I made the rounds around the room again. I'd ended up at the bar and ordered another drink. When the bartender handed me my drink, I turned and saw Odette standing there. "I found pictures of you once." She said. I took a sip of my drink. "I know that there's more to what he's told me, but I know better than to push him. But one thing I will say… is that you and Colin look perfect together." Odette said.

I put on my society smile. "Are you trying to intimidate me? Because you don't know me. The only reason that you are even standing in this room right now, is because Logan is Colin's best friend. Despite things that you have probably heard about me…I am not one to underestimate." I said.

Colin POV

I'd been standing with Finn and Robert talking to them while I waited for Rory to come back from the bar. Logan walked over to us and he didn't look happy. "Hey man, you okay?" I asked him.

He shook his head and then ran a hand over his face. "No. Apparently, my lovely wife has been talking to my mother." He said. "Where's Rory?" He asked, finally noticing that she wasn't beside me.

"She went to the bar." I said. I turned and looked in the direction of the bar. "Oh shit." I said.

Finn, Robert and Logan looked in the direction of the bar. "That's not good." Finn said, when we saw Rory and Odette at the bar in what looked to be a heated discussion.

The three of us headed to the bar to try and diffuse the situation. Logan was the first to speak. "What's going on here?" He asked.

Rory had a slight smirk on her face. "I was just getting to know you wife." She said calmly. That wasn't good.

I looked at her. "Are you about ready to head out?" I asked her.

She looked over at me and smiled. "Yeah. I just need to say our goodbyes to our families." She said.

I nodded. She glared at Logan before took my arm and I led her to where our families were standing so we could say our goodbyes.

When we walked into the house, Rory headed straight to the bedroom so that she could change. "Interesting night." I said, leaning against the doorframe to our bedroom.

"Yep. You could definitely say that." She said.

"Do you wanna talk about it?" I asked her.

"Not tonight. Right now, I just want to change out of this dress and climb into bed to cuddle." She said.

"Sure."

"Will you unzip me?" She asked.

A/N: Okay that's chapter 6. In case I haven't said this before, this story is going to be short. It's just a short little story that I came up with so obviously there are quite a few time jumps. Hope that you guys enjoyed this chapter.
