Mostly what you need to know is that I’m a sci-fi nerd and I’m the person writing “Nightfall” stories for the How to Train Your Dragon fandom. Everything else is detail.

…but here’s some:

NIGHTFALL

This is probably why you’re here.

“Nightfall” started out as Raberba girl commenting that Hiccup would be happier as a “crazy feral dragon boy”. What she meant was “someone with the freedom to wander around, study dragons, and come up with weird ideas”. What I heard was “crazy-feral dragon-boy”, as in, thinks he’s a dragon, and I could see him like a memory. Someone who had grown up wild, who wasn’t going to learn to talk overnight, who didn’t want anything to do with humans, who didn’t think or act like a human, who knew he was a dragon…

So I wrote that.

Or, really, it wrote itself. It turned into this…thing, about identity, and humanity, and loss, and love, and the choices we make and their consequences, and the way history corrects itself when you, say, move one baby. I made people cry, and I got screamed at, and I nearly failed my summer class, and I’m not remotely sorry. Best (and maddest) forty days and forty nights of my life, and I’m so proud of the resulting novel I have no words. (This is a lie. I'll talk about "Nightfall" no end.)

Stormfall: Sequel "Stormfall" tells how it happened when Drago Bludvist came to the Sanctuary Nest this time around, and what happened before that. It is substantially darker in tone than "Nightfall" and thus has a higher rating; where "Nightfall" is a coming-of-age story, "Stormfall" is more of an action movie. It's been recently revised to fix a couple of typos and odd turns of phrase. The story remains unchanged.

Nightfall prequel and companion stories: Ongoing. In chronological (in-world) order, they are “Fledglings”, "Valkyrie Eleison", “Night Terrors”, "Runt of the Litter", "Thursday's Children", “Fragile Things”, "In the Bleak Midwinter", “Firewalk”, "Things We Lost in the Fire", the post-"Stormfall" threeshots "Flashfreeze" and "The Affairs of Dragons", and "Shadowland".
