Ieyasu.. when did this all start?
the last time I saw him wasn't a very good memory
Ieyasu was running through the Forrest training as he usually did on days like these
"come on keep Up Tatsumi!" He yelled
Tatsumi didn't say anything as he just got a smile on his face and started to catch up to his black haired friend
"that's better I was starting to think you wouldn't be able to keep up."
The two where head and head they where pushing each other to there limits
"hey have you seen Sayo?" Tatsumi asked
"not since she sped past me"
"it wasn't like that of her to run ahead like that.. It just means she'll run out of gas before us" Tatsumi said with a competitive edge in his voice and a smirk
Me And Tatsumi always had a competitive way of going about things that being said Tatsumi had his limits.. Unlike me who stupidly never had enough.
"Ta-Tatsumi!….Ieyasu!...Help!" A voice was called from the Forrest
"hey! That sounds Like Sayo!" Tatsumi said as he looked over to the source of the voice
"what? She's probably fine Just Keep moving" he said
"Ieyasu this isn't a joke she could be seriously hurt"
"well then you can seriously help her I'll just be busy winning this race your to afraid to run."
"Ieyasu, Tatsumi! Please don't go!"
Tatsumi stopped and looked over at the source of the noise and ran off the path for his friend
"Sayo I'm on the way!"
"ha really? Guess I really am going to leave you in the dust then" Ieyasu said as he ran ahead
"Tatsumi are you there?"
"Im right here Sayo!"
Tatsumi ran through the Forrest following the sound of his friends distressful cries.
"what happened Sayo?" Tatsumi said has he found her Sitting down injured against a tree
"I fell tying to take this short cut and I cant feel my leg...I think it might be broken."
"don't worry I got you."
Meanwhile Ieyasu was almost at the finish line
He ran and ran and did it all with a smile on his face as he crossed the finish line and beat the course before his friends got there
"yes! I did it! All me the great Ieyasu!" he said
"Good job Kid" an old voice said
Ieyasu looked over to his teacher
Our Teacher Was an old man with an old way of looking at things at the age of 20 he Enlisted into the imperial army and at the age of 60 he retired and moved to our village there he took in three kids to train. He's seen things but whenever we would ask about it he just would be silent and never answer.
"But it looks like you didn't even learn the lesson of the course."
"lesson?.. what lesson?" Ieyasu asked in confusion
"look behind you kid"
Ieyasu looked behind him only to see Tatsumi walking out of the Forrest carrying an injured Sayo over his shoulder.
"hey...I guess we lost then didn't we?" Tatsumi said with a smile.
"you have to look out for your friends Ieyasu you might think they slow you down but without allies to rely on we are nothing"
"lemme take a look at that leg of yours Sayo"
"yes sir." Sayo said
"Tatsumi, Ieyasu stay here I'll talk to you both when I'm done fixing up Sayo"
The man said as he took her from Tatsumi's arms and went inside
Tatsumi and Ieyasu did as they where told and waited for there teacher to come back out never daring to move
Later
"You can go on and say it now" Ieyasu said as he took a hammer to a nail into a broken door
"say what Ieyasu?" Tatsumi said handing him another nail.
"that I was wrong for leaving Sayo" He said
"well of course you were but I cant tell you anything our teacher didn't already say and trust me It wasn't that big of a deal she's kind of a baby to be honest that was far from a broken leg. If you ask me she was just trying to get an excuse to get carried to the finish line"
"you know I bet she did that little...arg! I get That I was punished by having to repair his broken Door but why are you helping me Tatsumi?" Ieyasu asked
"oh come on you cant expect me to let you fix this all by yourself."
"well… Thank you for the help"
"don't mention it Ieyasu… so what do you think is gonna happen when we reach the capital?"
"your already talking about that? Who knows its a long time from now Tatsumi"
"I know its just… im optimistic about it that's all" Tatsumi said with an innocent smile
Tatsumi had this power to always have the most innocent smile and face... I envied it Everyone assumed the worst of me since I was an orphan who always got himself into trouble and plus I looked like a trouble maker didn't help that I was one. But they would take one look at Tatsumi giving that stupid dumb smile of his and well they all just melted there hearts for him… I might of hated it at the time but I miss it with what ever hell he's been through I doubt there's any remnant of it left.
"Hey guys over here!" A familiar female voice called out
"well if it isn't 'Miss I fake having a broken leg' I'm noticing your walking fine now what are you doing here?"
"first off I got patched up remember?"
"that's not how broken legs work" Ieyasu and Tatsumi huffed
"and secondly shut up. Look your times up for repairing his house the teacher said your free to go."
"Thank god" Ieyasu said putting his hammer down
"you guys want to do something? Like start a campfire again?" Ieyasu suggested
"you realize we only have a limited amount of of firewood for the winter right? Where gonna get in trouble again" Sayo said
"Oh don't worry I'll make it up to the village by going hunting tomorrow that will be enough to repay them what do ya say?" Ieyasu said
"I don't see why not" Tatsumi said
"its a plan then ill go get the firewood and we can have ourselves a bonfire in no time" Ieyasu said with a snarky grin
Ah yes the classic grin, I always bared it. It was the grin of a trouble maker and the look of someone who's ready to take on the world… well I faced the world and it kicked my ass… though If I where to go back in time and die with my friends instead of escaping from my village… I would… And I would do it with that exact grin on my face.
Later
The three of them all sat around a campfire the wood was burning faster then they could replace it but it was a warm cozy spot to talk.
"so Sayo have you heard? Tatsumi is already talking about our plans in the Imperial Capital"
"oh yea what are you guys talking about that includes the capital? How were going to be the richest and greatest captains the empires ever known?" Sayo asked
"man you two are both hopeful about this"
"well can you blame us?" Tatsumi asked
"hm? Yea I wanna know whats so special about this"
"well for one its the WHOLE capital, we've never even been more then 8 miles out of our village so this is the adventure of a lifetime for us" Sayo explained
"even still… its a little much isn't it?"
"well of course it is.. that's what this world is its a lot to handle but the best thing is to be optimistic….whats wrong Ieyasu your usually way more excited about this what happened? Your even usually talking about the woman your going to meet where your older… as crude as it is, its what you talk about...what changed?" Sayo asked
"Nothing much.. I'm just thinking… Maybe this capital thing isn't going to be the great grand thing where so ready for.. Maybe it would all be for nothing."
"maybe it will be but that wont stop us and it shouldn't stop us your never going to know it till you try it for sure.. it cant possibly be that bad" Tatsumi said
"even if it does end up not going the way we think… Who would we be if we just let our village suffer? We have to try" Sayo said
"Yea that's a good way to put it Sayo!" Tatsumi said
"you know we should make a promise that no mater what we'll always make it to the capitol and achieve our dreams!" Sayo said
Ieyasu was mesmerized by the way Sayo said that
And then there's Sayo….. There will never be anything as impactful in this world to me as Sayo. Sometimes when I have a terrible day I'll think back to her and it cheers me up but other times I can ruin a good day by thinking about her and what happened.. I liked her… I liked her quite a lot actually I would even go as far as to say that I really really liked her. Trilling archer amazing friend and downright amazing Liar never took no for an answer she was as stubborn as a dam mule but she was still the best thing about the village with my other best friend coming into a very close second
"so you in or not Ieyasu?" Tatsumi asked
Ieyasu grinned
"well of course I am I was just testing to see if you guys where as excited for this as I am!"`
"ha! I knew it I just Knew you where the same old Ieyasu" Tatsumi said
"Yea you sure are bad at faking."
"says the girl who faked a broken leg." Ieyasu said
"well of course I did" she said
"wait what? You actually did?"
"teacher told me to. He wanted to see how we would react to each other in peril and well you failed Ieyasu" Sayo said
Ieyasu looked down.. he didn't know how to respond to those words it had only just occurred to him that he left his friend alone in the woods…
"im… sorry." Ieyasu said
They kept quiet for a while around the campfire
"sayo… im sorry." he repeated the same apology he felt the need tt
"its fine Ieyasu you did what I think I would have done.. I forgive you"
End of Flashback
This whole team thing is nice and all but its pretty surprising that me Wave and Bols are the only ones That know how to cook
"Ieyasu don't put the fish in first it might ruin the recipe if it goes in before the other ingredient's"
"oh thanks For the advice Bol's" Ieyasu said
Never thought someone from the incineration Unit would be so Nice…
"you know I didn't expect you to be such a good person Bols" Wave said
That being said that doesn't make him a good person you idiot Ieyasu concluded in his head
"n-...no you don't understand I'm not a nice guy...I've… Done things..terrible Things"
"oh..Sorry.." Wave Said
"well if you guys are done bantering I think im done here." Ieyasu said as he left the Kitchen
"jeez whats his Deal" Wave Said
"Wave… do you remember when that boy attacked Esdeath?"
"yea… his attacks where massive.. how could I forget."
"he attacked with such anger and force...He was holding a grudge"
"hmm… why would he have a grudge against Esdeath?"
"who knows with a reputation like hers it could be anything.."
"I guess he's just not nice like us" Wave said
"again wave...I'm not a nice person…"

Ieyasu walked to where the rest of the team was dining he saw Seryu Talking with Esdeath, and Kurome was playing with Koro making him jump for food. While Run Just sat quietly reading a book.
Ieyasu sat down and poured himself a glass of wine.
"hey Ieyasu!" Seryu said warmly
Ieyasu smiled Seryu always could make him cheer up
"hey Seryu."
"I was just talking with our new team members."
"oh yea like what."
"Kurome seems to want to know a lot about what our duties in the Imperial guard"
"is that so?"
"It seems interesting." Kurome said in a monotone voice not even looking away from Koro
"well its a pain constant paper work and a lot of asshole higher ups that annoy the hell out of me." Ieyasu said
"sounds like my job" Esdeath said
"so General Esdeath What are your interests?" Seryu asked
"well as of right now… I wanted to try my hand in falling in love."
"whaaaat!" Ieyasu, and Seryu said at the same time
Esdeath smiled a bit. "yes believe it or not I don't know where this feeling came from I just know it has to happen."
"but you do know how to find someone right?" Ieyasu said while taking a sip of wine
"Unfortunately not much more then any of you do." she said with a sigh
"I'm sure you'll find someone!" Seryu Said cheerfully.
"hopefully… but so far its been a troublesome experience to say the least."
"well what do you want in a guy?" Ieyasu asked
"hmm the list gets really long I don't feel like I should bore you with details."
"well what about you Kurome… what do you want in a man?" Seryu asked
"I've never really thought about it… I guess that love isint really my thing...well there was one guy..." she said
The rest waited for her to continue
"but it didint really work out you should realize that with our profession nothing really lasts." She said coldly before taking another cookie from her bag.
"now how about you there fire boy?" Kurome asked
"Me? I just like a girl that's kind" He said with a smile on his face
"how dull. You cant tell me thats all the taste you have." Esdeath said
"Wait now hold on that can go a lot of ways being kind can go a long way. And I don't mean that fake mask a lot of ladies like to have on these days I mean actual genuine random kindness."
"That actually does seem pretty nice" Kurome said
"and loyalty… I want someone that would never leave my side ever even against the world" he looked up saying
"that's good taste Ieyasu very respectable." Run said without even looking up from his book.
"Thanks Run." he said taking a sip of some wine
"and then there's you Seryu.. what kind of person do you want in your life?" Ieyasu just had to ask
"someone I can always rely on to get me out of a bad situation… that doesn't seem so bad to me I think that's all I need."
"you didint strike me as the romance type."Ieyasu said in response to Seryu making eye contact with her brown orbs.
"neither did I but I guess that preference kind of came out of no where." she said
"so any way! Are you exited for that tournament tomorrow General?"
"not particularly… if I am being honest I'm debating even showing up."
"why's that?" Ieyasu asked
"well it's just that I know no one there is going to impress me like you all do, its just gonna be watching amateurs swing there swords wildly and declare them selves the best warriors of the land it all just seems so pointless."
"well I cant go since I have to train for our first assignment but I'm sure there will be a lot of surprises you'll never know for sure." Seryu said
"well im not going I need to train to stay on top" Kurome said
"I don't mind overseeing the event but its a little embarrassing that me and Run are your body guards considering who you are."
"on the contrary you should see that as an honor Ieyasu." She said
"I guess there are two ways to look at it." Ieyasu said
"Foods done!" Bols announced coming into the dining hall
Kurome instantly got her attention away from Koro and looked at the full fish dinner that was currently being served.
"someone go pry the Good Doctor from his lab." Esdeath said.
"already on it boss!" seyru said getting up and going towards the door
Ieyasu really didin't like Dr Stylish out of everyone on the team he had to be the one he had the most distrustful.
"well I just hope that we can enjoy this meal as a proper team." Esdeath said
The Imperial Capital
"hmm I wonder Should make for dinner tonight?"
"man that girl is hot I wonder if she's thinking about me right now?"
"That Bastard I know he's cheating on me"
"I hope this Tournament Esdeath Is putting together is worth the ticket price!"
"A tournament huh?"
Tatsumi let out a sigh as his eyes went from a dim bright green his usual color. He was leaning against a wall in the heart of the capital.
"It seems no one as anything interesting to think about… as per usual...but that tournament does sound pretty interesting.. I guess this really is it then... didn't think it would be so soon ….Kurome...Akame whenever you two meet I wont be there to stop what happens I just hope you two stay safe please stay alive."
He said has he pulled out a small dagger only a bit as he didn't want to cause attention to himself. But he looked at it and let out a sigh
"lets at least go out with a bang.." He said with a smile.
Tatsumi walked over to where he was supposed to meet up with his fellow member.
"hey Lubbock"
"yo"
"so this is the place huh?" Tatsumi said as they entered the book store
"yea its my pride and joy all nice and secretive its also nice distraction from Night Raid" lubb said as he pushed a book into the book shelf making a nice click sound as the shelf was moved and a hidden passage way was revealed.
"heyo!" Leone called out as the two entered the hidden downstairs area of the book store
"finally I thought you guys would never show up" Mine said
"well were here now" Lubb replied
Tatsumi laid his eyes on his fellow members
Sheele, Mine And Leone the gang was almost all here though it was missing Akame… And Bulat
"so you just gonna stand there and look at us strangely or are ya gonna sit down and relax?' Leone said
"hmm.. oh sorry guess my minds been wondering."
"jeez Tatsumi your usually hyperactive to everything around you.. you must really be out of it." Mine said strangely warmly
"hey Sheele if it isn't to much of a problem I would like to speak to you in private?"
"huh? Oh sure Tatsumi."
The two walked over back to the upstairs area.
"what the hell was that about.." Mine asked
"who knows its like whenever Tatsumi talks now he just wants to talk to a single person. Not even trying talk anymore its like after Bulat went, he just …. kinda stopped talking" Lubbock said
"yea im also pretty sure he made Akame cry after training she really has been distant herself." Leone said
"I'm sure he'll come around he has to. Tatsumi has been through a lot more than this"
"well as of right now that's only what he's told us." Mine said
"what do you mean? Do you not trust him?" Leone said
"well im not as open as you Leone" Mines said crossing her arms
"sounds like someones jealous" Leone said giggling
"wait what… Leone have you been… no...no...no way" lubb said
"man your slow, I thought everybody knew" Leone said
"That lucky bastard…." he said to himself
"Sheele how have you been?" He asked
"fine and you?"
"I've been better I wont lie to you"

"as you've noticed I've been pretty distant with the team lately"
"ive noticed Tatsumi.. are you ok?"
"yea I've just had a lot on my conscious"
"is it Bulat?...Is death wasn't your fault Tatsumi you put him out of a bad situation."
"he was a hell of a solider...but...no"
He kept looking down while talking very few times did his eyes meet hers like he was scared to report to her or something.
"ever since I've joined Night Raid Sheel I've never really felt trusted"
"well can you blame them?"
Tatsumi raised a brow at that
"as of today we still don't really get what your fighting for"
"I guess my reasons where a little off"
"I have a theory you just want to kill Esdeath but not everyone believes that you do."
Tatsumi did want to kill Esdeath or at the very least fight her so shel wasn't completely off the mark
"honestly some say after your mission with Bulat your objective is just to die."
Tatsumi's eyes opened a bit as she said that.
"and on top of that where giving you a lot of power by letting you absorb Imperial Arms"
"well yes… but I just wanted to say I think I've done a good job so far"
"and I agree your quite the killer Tatsumi...but I sense there's a but at the end of your sentence"
"But...I need to do my objective shel."
"and what would that be..."
Sheele started to piece together what he meant and when she did the look of her face looked as if one of fear and not for her…
"w-why… why would you want that?" Sheele asked out of desperation for an answer
"Look Sheele you have to tell Akame that im upholding the promise I made to her when I first got separated"
"Tatsumi what are you planning to do?" she said as a tear started to fall down her face she was acting as if it was to late to save him
"you remind me of a girl I was supposed to watch over.. Her name was Remus she was an airhead to…" he said as he gently felt her hair
"I've watched so many people die Sheele… so much pain.. I just want it to go away… But this imperial arms is a curse… I can't let it go into enemy hands.. I have a plan for that don't worry."
Sheele stood still now contempt with these words
"please just don't tell anyone else...let this happen."
"let what happen?.. Tatsumi I'm so confused…"
"when we get back down those stairs... Lubbock will suggest I enter a tournament in honor of Esdeath's return to the capital as shit as in idea as that is I accept … from there I think its pretty obvious the next step.."
"Tatsumi… please.. don't do this…"
"this needs to happen.. Sheele… She needs to die. And it needs to be me… even at my own life."
"ok… i wont tell anyone… I'm so sorry" she said pulling him into a hug… a hug he lovingly returned
"stay safe Sheele."
The Imperial Arena.
"you know there's nothing more boring then watching to idiots who barley know how to fight try there best to impress you… its so pitiful and pathetic" Esdeath said as she watched the match unfold in front of her.
"I'm gonna have to agree with you on this one Mr 'I'm defending my honor' over there his technique is all wrong." Ieyasu said has he watched the warriors fight
"its not even that there just bland...each and everyone of them I can tell who they are just by there mere pathetic existence." Esdeath said with a yawn.
"huh what do you mean by that?" he asked
"their personality everything about them, what there goals are, who they want to be, what they want most in life I could tell it all in a single glance."
"how could you possibly-"
"Lets just say I can see certain things in certain people"
"like me?"
"Oh I know more then enough on you Ieyasu." She said with a smile still watching the fight.
He kept quiet at that not really brave enough to ask her to elaborate
Ieyasu looked at Esdeath in curiosity He had never met someone who had stumped him as much as Esdeath except maybe Tatsumi. She was just so different then what he expected given her reputation He expected her to be nothing but heartless but she was only heartless when she needed to be it seemed regardless it didn't change his Mind.
Things needed to change in the capital but Ieyasu didn't know what to do when it came to Esdeath he may need to kill her but he doesn't even know if he could on his best day. She beat him in a single hit to the throat and that was a hit he is still recovering from this wasn't easy for him Esdeath will always be the biggest challenge.
"Ieyasu its probably best for us not to question The good generals intuition She has an eye for this" Run said
"look at Wave down there he seems to be doing a good job at being a commentator" Ieyasu said
"he does seem to be enjoying himself" Run Said looking down at the match
"The winner is Nobunaga, the dry goods merchant!" Wave said to the crowd as they cheered.
"well at least this Tournament is coming to an end" Esdeath Said as one of the last matches started.
"just a few matches left this next guy coming in doesn't seem like a joke." Run Said as a big half bull half man hybrid came out of the right side entrance to the arena as the crowd went wild for him.
And to the left side entrance a big intake of breath...before a big exhale...he was ready for this.
And so he took his first step into the arena.
As soon as he took the first few steps onto the sand Ieyasu recognized him.
His eyes went wide as he looked upon the challenger who entered the ring.
what his he doing here? Ieyasu thought as the person he was eyeing marched his way to the center of the arena
It was then he remembered the words he last left him
"Please we might not see each other again!"
"Oh we will Ieyasu and not to long from now we will see each other and when we do I promise I'll tell you everything that happened to me."
Well Ieyasu looked forward to the latter part. But he clenched his fist a little bit, this was certainly not what he had in mind.
The warrior had almost reached his destination to the center
I guess you weren't lying when you said we would see each other soon Tatsumi..
He nervously glanced over and looked at Esdeaths not amused face
The warrior reached his destination.
"To my right Kali the Butcher!"
"and to my left Tatsumi The blacksmith!" Wave announced to the crowed
But even still why are you here Tatsumi. This new unit is hunting people like you your in extreme danger just by being in this area.
"what does your intuition say about this one general?" Run said
Esdeath leaned in to her seat something about this boy seemed familiar
"As of now a blank Canvas." She said
up in the crowd the few members of Night Raid watched the warrior.
"you know you could have thought of something better then a blacksmith" Mine said while hiding under a hood concealing her real identity.
"can he even blacksmith?" Leone asked
"he's not half bad but not nearly as blessed as me." Lubb said
"so this is little runt is my challenge? HA they might as well just give me the prize money now I've already won." Kali said
This guys big he's not playing around Wave thought to himself.
"your in my way." The warrior said.
"Ha I cant believe they would even insult my honor by even putting me against you you wont even live past a minute."
"you should get out of the way." Tatsumi said turning towards wave.
"I have to clean out some trash."
"Y-yea whatever you say" Wave said taking a step back.
Well This kid seems intimidating despite his young age. Wave made note.
"come on boy, Lets Get This Show On The Road." Kali said to Wave
"yea.. you got it." Wave said
He threw one hand into the hair to signal a start
"and Begin!" Wave said
But before he could even finish the last word The Warrior had seemed to dissapear from his starting spot.
"what where did.." Kali began to say before a cut was made….
The half bull half man bull didn't even have time to react or even move his face…
The Crowd went dead silent no one said a word.
It was only when Wave looked up did he understand.
His head was off… and as his body hit the floor Tatsumi was revealed behind him with a bloody arm
he made the cut with his hand?! Wave thought in disbelief
The shock from Wave was shared between every single person in the crowd by Leone, Lubbock, Mine, Sheele and even the likes of Esdeath, Run and the most of all Ieyasu.
"what the hell is he doing!" Lubbock shouted over the voices of others in the crowd
"I don't know but I don't like where this is going." Leone said
"I think I got a good understanding" Mine said with wide eyes
"but your not going to like it."
"enlighten us." Leone said
"The way Tatsumi killed him it was quick and effective yet brutal and blatant its almost as if this death is all just one big message." Mine said
"a message why a message?" Lubb asked
"well think about this he's basically given himself away. In one swift action he has not only proven he's an imperial arms user but an extremely skilled assassin. And what team of assassins is currently famous for being imperial arms users?" Mine Said
"hes trying to get Esdeath's attention and I think it worked but anyone in this arena can tell he's definitely the enemy." Mine concluded
Leone and Lubbock looked at her in disbelief
Sheele was hiding the fact that she knew this was all going to happen.
"yo-you cant be serious. He's not actually going to fight her is he?"
"why would you do that…" Ieyasu said. But then he realized something.
"And at that exact moment as the life of the poor soul who was randomly selected to face the warrior was turned into a message, I understood that Tatsumi wasn't doing this for pride, or power no… The only thing he wanted…was Esdeath."
Ieyasu put the pieces together extremely quickly and turned to Esdeath's stunned face only to see her going back to a more reserved look she sure knew how to keep her composure. He turned back to Tatsumi and watched for his next move has he just stood there. But something was wrong he could feel it she actually seemed..pretty worried.
"Bingo Ieyasu." Tatsumi said just lightly enough that Wave couldn't hear, he looked up to where Esdeath was seated.
"H-he killed him in seconds… who could possibly move that fast?" Run said
Tatsumi looked up to Esdeath and met her eyes. She knew what he wanted.
Wave took one look into Tatsumi's eyes and something clicked for him he could tell this
"why… why would you do that.. so brutal.. you son of bitch… why" Wave said has he slowly approached Tatsumi
"WAVE GET OUT OF THERE NOW!" Esdeath Said holding out her hand
Ieyasu was stunned by that it was extremely out of character for her to be that concerned for her subordinates. She must be confidant in Tatsumi's power level.
she felt fear for him.. Tatsumi wasn't nearly this strong when I fought him… or was he just holding back? Ieyasu thought
Just as Wave heard Esdeath's warning from above Tatsumi suddenly looked over to him and gave him a death glare.
"I told you to get out of the way." he said
Wave looked in momentary fear as he was jabbed straight in the chest.
Wave gasped as the color left his eyes with this hit and he flew threw the arena. He managed to hold onto his sword though something Tatsumi let happen. Whether he survived or not wasn't exactly clear not even to Esdeath who bowed her head down as shadows covered her eyes."
"oh god wave…" Ieyasu said
"who is this.." Run asked
Again all the arena and crowd felt was shock in despair no one really knew what was going on. Honestly that hit Wave took it looked like it almost could have killed him but No one not even Esdeath could tell for sure.
