![]() Author has written 12 stories for Yu-Gi-Oh! Arc-V, Yu-Gi-Oh! VRAINS, Battle Spirits, Gundam 00, JoJo's Bizarre Adventure, and Gundam Build Divers/ガンダムビルドダイバーズ. Hello to you, whoever decided to visit this page! My Pen-Name is Sakushi Ryu. I love watching Anime, reading, writing, have fun, and let my imagination run wild. I decided to start writing because I want to see if other people like my ideas and stories and to improve my English since it isn't my native language. So here I am. I only have one regret: not starting this sooner. This is really fun! Whoever is reading this and is having doubts about starting writing stories, don't waste more time, just start writing because it's a blast. [Placed in the order of appearance. Japanese VA: Chiwa Saitō Theme Music: Most Epic Music Ever: "Festival Of Light" by Audiomachine God Cards Divine Hierarchy is a term used to describe the rank of the God cards. God cards are not affected by the effects of God cards with a lower hierarchy, so when they're of the same hierarchy, they're vulnerable to each other's effects. "Slifer the Sky Dragon" and "Obelisk the Tormentor" have a hierarchy of 1, while "The Winged Dragon of Ra" has a hierarchy of 2. As seen in Chapter 32 of Season 2, Overdrive Monsters can gain a Divine Hierarchy through a card effect, such as "Overdrive Break Limit". When a monster's Divine Hierarchy increases, it 'evolves' mid-Duel but returns to normal once it leaves the field, the Duel ends, or its Divine Hierarchy decreases. Unlike with Overdrive Monsters, it's impossible to mass-produce God cards, they create themselves, but it's possible to create anti-support cards for them, using normal coding. Moreover, a god chooses who wields them, not the other way around; like in Kaiba's case, Obelisk chose him as his user, and Exodia chose Bast as his user. On that note, according to Bast in Chapter 4 of Season 3, Exodia isn't a god, but like Overdrive Monsters it wields god-like power, putting him on the same level as a god. Another way for a god to materialize in the real world is by possessing a suitable, human vessel, fusing with their soul. This ability is somewhat similar to King's Control Over, but in this case, the consciousness of the vessel is still awake, and they're called a Servant. Overdrive Monsters An Overdrive Monster is a type of Monster Card. The color of their card frame is gold with a zigzag pattern, blood-red colored stars on the top-left side, and their Textbox is colored pitch-black (thus the words are white). These cards are placed in the Extra Deck. Like other Extra Deck monsters, Overdrive Monsters cannot exist in either the hand or the Main Deck (even with card effects). If an Overdrive Monster would be moved to the hand or Main Deck, it is returned to the Extra Deck instead. If a card like "Transmigration Break" or "Degenerate Circuit" is applying, the Overdrive Monster would be banished rather than returning to the Extra Deck. Overdrive Monsters, unlike other monsters, also require Spell/Trap Cards as materials. They do not possess Levels, Ranks, nor Link Markers, but Grades, so unless a card specifically states "Grade", then the Overdrive Monster isn't affected by that effect. With the arrival of Overdrive Monsters, a new Card Zone is introduced: Charge Zone. After an Overdrive Monster is Overdrive Summoned, the materials used for its summon are sent to the Charge Zone. This new Zone is like Overlay Units for Xyz Monsters. Overdrive Monsters use the cards in the Charge Zone to activate their effect (if required). As seen in Chapter 32 of Season 2, Overdrive Monsters can gain a Divine Hierarchy through a card effect, such as "Overdrive Break Limit", and become a 'new' version of themselves with empowered original ATK, original DEF, and effects. However, when they leave the field, their card returns to its normal form. Overdrive Summon An Overdrive Summon is the act of Special Summoning an Overdrive Monster from the Extra Deck. During their Main Phase, if possible, the turn player can Overdrive Summon an Overdrive Monster from their Extra Deck by sending face-up materials they control to the Charge Zone as Overdrive Materials. However, the combined Levels, Ranks, Link Markers, Grades, Spells, and Traps used as Overdrive Materials must equal the Grade of the Overdrive Monster wished to summon. (Spell and Trap Cards are treated as Grade 1 cards, while Link Monsters are treated as Grade 1 monsters for each Link Marker they posses.) After that, the Overdrive Monster is Summoned in either an Extra Monster Zone or a Main Monster Zone that a Link Monster on the field points to, in face-up Attack Position or Defense Position. In the story The first Overdrive Monsters were created by Kyoya, Suiko, and Kogami Kiyoshi at KaibaCorp following Incident Genesis, and they were Grangadez and Grandeen. When they concluded, the Twin Gods placed a lock on them, sealing them away. That lock is what disallows everyone/thing from opening an Overdrive Monster's program (including themselves), so they cannot be copied to create new ones. But the Twin Gods can give someone (they chose Almark, as stated in Chapter 4 of Season 3) permission to open Grangadez's and Grandeen's programs, and along with the notes left behind by those three programmers, he managed to create a new, Overdrive Monster. He could create a hundred of them, but they take a considerable amount of time to finish; for example, one as strong as the twins' Overdrive Monsters takes Almark around two weeks to make. Grangadez and Grandeen were created to protect Kioku and Erika once Kyoya and Suiko would die, and therefore were never released or shown to the public but kept in secret. The first time an Overdrive Monster was shown to the public was in Chapter 3 of Season 2 by Kioku in his Duel against Blood Shepherd in Yu-Gi-Oh VRAINS Overdrive!. All the data regarding Overdrive Monsters, including their birth and how to create the right algorithm in order to give birth to them, are stored at KaibaCorp, so companies like SOL Technologies cannot manufacture them. But it's possible to create anti-support cards for them, using normal coding. Overdrive Monsters have the ability to cross between the network and the real world, manifesting at any desired size, also, they can create cards that belong to their archetype (for example Grangadez who created the "Deus" monsters) and are considered their 'servants'. Only Grangadez and Grandeen have been shown to possess this last ability, and Grangadez stated Kyoya and Suiko specifically gave them to them. Overdrive Monsters aren't gods, but they're strong Monsters with god-like qualities, so they're treated as "God cards" in the story, being on the same power-level as gods like the three Egyptian Gods if a card like "Overdrive Break Limit" affects them. Fun fact: the fic's title is "Yu-Gi-Oh VRAINS Overdrive!", so that was a foreshadow of these monsters' future debut and existence. Three/Four-Way Duel A Three or Four-Way Duel is a type of Duel in the Yu-Gi-Oh VRAINS Overdrive! story. This type of Duel occurs when three or four people want to Duel at the same time, and they apply for any kind of Duel (Master, Speed, Turbo, etc.). Instead of two playmats, one or two are added depending on which '-Way Duel' you start in a plus sign formation, and in the case of a Three-Way, the players decide where their playmat may be located. Each field contains Main Monster Zones, Spell & Trap Zones, one Field Zone, one Extra Deck Zone, one Main Deck Zone, one Graveyard, one Charge Zone, and in addition, one Extra Monster Zone (located above the player's Middle Main Monster Zone). Lastly, in the field's center, which is above every player's Extra Monster Zone, is another Extra Monster Zone called Bonus-Ex Monster Zone. To utilize the Bonus-Ex, a player must Special Summon a Monster from their Extra Deck to that Zone if they control a Link Monster with a Link Marker that points to the Bonus-Ex, and obviously, the Bonus-Ex must be free. Moreover, if a Monster is summoned to the Bonus-Ex, it's summoned so that the card's text faces its controller. If a player controls a Link Monster in the Bonus-Ex and its Marker points to an opponent's free Extra Monster Zone, that player cannot Special Summon Monsters from their Extra Deck to that opponent's Zone, unless you control 4 or more co-linked monsters and you summon a Link Monster that can be co-linked with the Link Monster in the Bonux-Ex (its text facing the controller of that field). Even if in the opponent's field, that Monster is under your control. This action is called 'Bonus Extra Link', and if you control all Extra Monster Zones, it's 'Bonus Extra Link Full-Mode'. When an effect is activated that doesn't specifically target, then all other players and/or Monsters are affected by it. Example: If Player 1 activates the effect of Scarlight Red Dragon Archfiend, Player 2, 3, and 4 if this is a Four-Way Duel, will be affected by it, but since the 2nd part of Scarlight's effect states "your opponent", Player 1 has to choose another Player who's going to be affected by the effect's 2nd part. When a player targets an opponent's Monster for an attack, or uses an effect which affects the opponent, only the player who's being affected by it can activate card or effects in reply. Example: If Player 1 activates the effect of Scarlight Red Dragon Archfiend, Player 2, 3, and 4 if this is a Four-Way Duel, will be affected by it, therefore they can activate a card or effect in reply to it. However, if Player 1 chooses Player 2 to be affected by the 2nd part of Scarlight's effect, only Player 2 may activate cards or effects in reply. When an effect states "Your opponent", the player who activated that effect has to state which opponent will be affected by it (and only that opponent will be affected). Example: If Player 1 activates the effect of Scarlight Red Dragon Archfiend, after its effect's 1st part resolves, Player 1 has to state which opponent will be affected by its 2nd effect because Scarlight's effect specifically states "your opponent". When an effect states "both players", it affects all players instead. In the story Ever since Link Monsters were added to Duel Monsters, it became impossible for three or more players to Duel at once because only two Extra Monster Zones can exist, therefore, they were forced to Tag Duel. However, the Charisma Duelist Psychic Lord introduced the Three/Four-Way Duels to the game. He created it due to his 'spirit', which likes to take on numerous opponents in unison to display his determination. Samsara Link Summon Samsara Link Summon is a method of Link Summoning that uses a specific Link Monster that was Special Summoned from a specific location as a Link Material to Link Summon a new Link Monster with Unknown Link Markers. When summoned this way, the Link Monster gains the Link Markers of the Link Monster used as Link Material. Therefore, if it wasn't summoned through a Samsara Link Summon, it doesn't have any Link Markers and it's a Link 0 monster. In the story This type of Summon was first performed by Spectre in Chapter 7 of Season 2 in Yu-Gi-Oh VRAINS Overdrive! and later utilized by Kyoko Taki (aka Baira) in Chapter 25 of the same Season. As Spectre was the first to use this method of Link Summoning, and only the Knights of Hanoi seem to have access to it, it's safe to assume they invented Samsara Link Summoning and the Samsara Link Monsters. A Samsara Link Summon isn't performed through the usual square Link Portal with its triangle markers, but based on the deck the character uses, the Link Portal obtains a special design, making each character have a different and unique Link Portal. The Link Material almost "fuses" with the Link Portal and changes into the new Link Monster, becoming an evolved form of the Link Material. Cyberse-hybrid Monster A Cyberse-hybrid Monster is a type of Cyberse Link Monster fused with another type summoning method. So far, only Fusion, Synchro, and Xyz Cyberse-hybrid Monsters have debuted, whose card frames are also half violet, white, and black with stars respectively. Cyberse-hybrid Monsters, unlike other types of Monsters, cannot be placed in the Extra Deck. For a player to utilize them, they have to place them in their Side Deck, and at the beginning of a Duel, the player can place them into his/her Charge Zone face-down. Your opponent cannot see what cards you're adding to your Charge Zone this way nor can they look at it during the Duel, but you can, whenever you want. Since they're not in the Extra Deck, Cyberse-hybrid Monsters are summoned from the Charge Zone while being face-down (if they're face-up, you cannot summon them through their own effects). When being summoned (from the Charge Zone face-down), they can only be placed in the Extra Monster Zone or a zone where a Link Monster points to. Like Extra Deck monsters, Cyberse-hybrid Monsters cannot exist in the hand, Main Deck, and Extra Deck (even with card effects). If they would be moved to the hand, Main Deck, or Extra Deck, they're returned to the Charge Zone face-down instead. If a card like "Transmigration Break" or "Degenerate Circuit" is applying, this will override the Monster's ability to return to the Charge Zone face-down. Like Extra Deck monsters, if Cyberse-hybrid Monsters are not summoned through their effects first, they cannot be Special Summoned from the Graveyard or while banished (unless they specify another way to properly Special Summon them). Monsters used as Materials to Special Summon Cyberse-hybrid Monsters aren't treated as Materials being used for a Fusion, Synchro, or Xyz Summon but only as Link Materials. Cyberse-hybrid Monsters aren't treated as being Link, Fusion, Synchro, or Xyz Summoned, but only as being Special Summoned. In the story This type of Monster Card was first utilized by Kioku (aka Bloody Talker in VRAINS) in Chapter 11 of Season 2 in Yu-Gi-Oh VRAINS Overdrive!. In the beginning, the only way to get your hands on this type of Monster Card was via the Skill Cyberse Horizon, which was only accessible by Kioku thanks to his Ignis, Grim. Without Grim, Kioku cannot use his Skill. But starting from Season 3, Almark fully joins Kioku and created a new Cyberse-hybrid Monster for him by using the already existing ones as a basis, and it's later revealed he created 3 more for himself; therefore, Almark can Cyberse-hybrid Monster for whoever and how many he wants. Charge Zone (in general) With the arrival of Overdrive Monsters, a new Card Zone was introduced: Charge Zone. After an Overdrive Monster is Overdrive Summoned, the materials used for its summon are sent to the Charge Zone. This new Zone is like Overlay Units for Xyz Monsters. Overdrive Monsters use the cards in the Charge Zone to activate their effect (if required). Later on, Cyberse-hybrid Monsters were born and utilize the Charge Zone to function as well. However, with them in the picture, new rules have to be applied by the players, which are: - Any card which states "Charge Zone" automatically means "face-up in the Charge Zone", unless a card states otherwise. 1) Example: if an effect states (Inflict 200 damage to your opponent x the number of cards in your Charge Zone), your opponent only takes 200 damage for every face-up card in your Charge Zone. 2) Example: if an effect states (Inflict 200 damage to your opponent x the number of face-down cards in your Charge Zone), your opponent only takes 200 damage for every face-down card in your Charge Zone. 3) Example: if an effect states (Inflict 200 damage to your opponent x the total number of cards in your Charge Zone), your opponent takes 200 damage for every card (be it face-down card or face-up) in your Charge Zone. - Only 3 face-down cards can be at a time in your Charge Zone. - When a card would be sent to the Charge Zone, it's always placed there face-up, unless an effect states otherwise. Star Relics (in general) "I am a being which overhauls rational thought, which can become something humans cannot, which can guide humans." - King stating what a Star Relic is Here's all the current information available on this species. The Star Relics' algorithms were devised by mastermind programmers and their powers derive from Mirg's and Ylil's ichor; it isn't a walk in the park to hijack their abilities, even among themselves. They are actually Duel Monsters, but unlike Duel Spirits (which only possess an astral form in the Human World, and can interact with humans who can see/feel Duel Monster, or in the Cyberse monster's case with those who have Link Sense), Star Relics live in the Human World as its actual beings (which means everyone/thing can see and interact with them). It isn't stated if they possess basic needs like humans, but some Star Relics are bound to them; for instance, Miranda must sleep to activate her Precognition and Nahum's always hungry for unknown reasons. Star Relics can travel between the network and IRL by two means: 1) by creating a Gate, a program which turns a hardware (large enough to let a person emerge from it) into a portal; 2) by connecting their mind to the network, thus leaving their body IRL, for example, they can log into LINK VRAINS (from IRL) without the need of a Duel Disk. Star Relics were created by Mirg and Ylil, with two exceptions: Almark (created only by Mirg) and Nina (created only by Ylil). Mirg and Ylil wanted to help humans by gifting them seven warriors who will fight alongside them against the evil, otherworldly forces that threaten extinction (like gods). However, something went wrong after Mirg and Ylil left; six of the Star Relics turned evil. However... after Mirg and Ylil created six Star Relics together (the ones who turned evil), Mirg created a seventh Star Relic (Almark), the one who'll judge the other six (in case they turn evil). Ylil did the same: she created Nina, who will only wake up if the others turn evil and (after they are defeated) will help humanity like the others should've originally done. As Almark stated, he (it's still unknown if the other Star Relics did as well, but it's presumed they did) evolved into an S.Q.C.P.S. (Super Quantum Computer Processing System) which has the abilities to scan the Earth in mere seconds, hack S Rank Defense Programs, and possess amazing computing skills. They can also create their own minions called Beings; before Nina was revealed to be a Star Relic, it was believed Beings can be either Duel Monsters or Star Relic-like beings, which aren't S.Q.C.P.S.s and don't have free will, but now it's known that isn't the case. Beings can only be Duel Monsters. They can also fabricate Dark Tuners and Dark Synchros by copying an already existent one's codes and create Link 6 Link Monsters (it's still unknown if they can make Link 5 and 7 or higher ones). Star Relics can opt between reading data or simply transferring it into their brain, which is better because it's a lot faster than reading (as they don't waste any time in the activity) and they can't get a false understanding of the data (by reading a word in the wrong way or driven by specific emotions, you can get a different idea from what's written). They're also capable of accessing and sending any information through the network without the need of hardware and in few seconds, also, their eyes usually glow when they do so. The creation of a Dueling A.I. enchanted by a Star Relic's algorithm is not an option as the codings they create cause the A.I. to malfunction. Another flaw Star Relics are cursed with is the inability to hack Ignis algorithms, as stated by King in Chapter 34 of Season 2. Fortunately for them, Ignis can't hack Star Relic algorithms either. However, both of them can learn how to hack the opposing algorithm. According to Almark, if it's an Ignis' source code, then even a Star Relic can understand it (an Ignis could understand theirs if they had their source code, too), but it's impossible to learn the algorithm from its source code. Star Relics can hack each other's programs, but it takes much more time than hacking a simple human-made program, but if more Star Relics hack the same program at once, the duration varies, but they can't hack each other's or their own minds (nobody can, not humans nor Ignis). As stated by Almark in Chapter 4 of Season 3, there are two reasons this unbreakable law was devised: 1) to avoid a similar atrocity to the one Lightning did to Windy, and 2) to hide Almark's ability from the other Star Relics. They can create programs by adopting a different algorithm, i.e. a Human one, as seen in Chapter 1 of Season 3. If they try to exercise their special ability onto a Blessed human, they're violently thrown back by an invisible force that appears to protect the Blessed person (it's unknown if the same would happen with a Blessed Duel Monster). It appears they can manifest their Duel-Monster-forms in IRL as first seen in Chapter 23 of Season 2. Star Relics, apart from Nina (with whom it's still unknown), share four similarities: 1) they can exit the computer world and live in IRL, and vice versa; 2) they can create a Barrier; 3) they each seem to embody one of the seven cardinal sins; 4) they each have a unique ability, which cannot be copied or be recreated. - Kisskill: lust. - Nahum: gluttony; he can devour any data in, and only in, VR. He can't choke when eating data, but IRL where he eats human food, he can. - Almark: greed; Star Relic Killer, an ability designed to counter the other Star Relics. "Eiqab" has an effect that negates the effects of 'Star Relic' Monsters, and those whose effects are negated this way permanently lose their ability in real life as well. According to him, when he made "Eiqab", it automatically obtained his ability, which means it's a Duel-only ability. - Miranda: sloth; possesses Precognition, but it only activates during sleep and it isn't always guaranteed she'll have one. - Tormentor: wrath; very quiet and stealthy (thus an excellent assassin/stalker). He was able to create a stealth program that, when equipped, makes a person/object untrackable through the net or to monsters (multiple persons/objects can be equipped at a time). True ability: God Killer (he can kill a god or negate their powers with his Monster form). - King: envy; he can take control of human minds (ability dubbed Control Over), but this ability only triggers during close proximity (range: max. 5 meters) and if he sees his target (if there's a door between him and his target, even if he knows someone's on the other side, he can't Control Over). Defeating King or the controlled human won't free them, the only way to do that is by killing King or using a Blessing. - Deva: pride. - Nina: sinless(?); she can control the Data Material and freeze people/objects with it. Barriers Here's all the current information available on this phenomenon. A Barrier can be deployed by a Star Relic in order to protect a specific area, usually a closed area (like a house for example). The Barrier can: 1) Only protect the people/things inside of it by the powers of other Star Relics and Gods from the outside; 2) Stop other Star Relics and Gods from entering the Barrier; 3) Stop the powers of other Star Relics and Gods from influencing the people/things inside of the Barrier (but if they're already influenced, they're still influenced); 4) In VR, there can be a backdoor in the Barrier which lets insiders escape if needed (so far, only upon losing activates said backdoor); 5) Stop you from detecting programs inside the Barrier (from the outside). There are ways to get around them: a god may pressure its divine aura upon a Barrier in order to weaken it, allowing the enemy to force themselves in. This method takes around a month to be carried out, but if more gods pressure a Barrier at once, the duration varies. Forcing yourself in would trigger alarms in the Barrier's creator's mind, but with Tormentor's stealth program, for example, you can avoid detection when entering but not while exiting. Blessings Here's all the current information available on this phenomenon. A God (so far only Mirg and Ylil are capable of doing this) bestows a portion of Their power to someone or a Duel Monster. A Blessing protects the affected person by the power of other Star Relics and Gods. People and Duel Monsters with a Blessing cannot enter an enemy's Barrier. If a person is already affected by the power of another Star Relic or God and gains a Blessing, the powers previously affecting said person vanish. A Duel Monster with a Blessing gains the ability to exist IRL as well, and it can protect its user from the powers of other Star Relics and Gods. It will never turn on its user, and having one brings you closer to the Star Relics' and the Evil Gods' level of power. Every person can only have one Blessed Monster, and only that one can manifest in the real world. The only need for a Blessed Monster's card is to use it in a Duel; as Regalia stated, it's obvious a person won't be able to Duel with it if it's stolen or torn in half, but that won't affect the actual Monster in any way. It's also shown that Ylil (so far only she's done this) can give a Blessing to Almark, who encompasses it in data, thus turning it into a program. This program, when activated, is released and Blesses its target. (NOTE: by "other Star Relics and Gods" generally means "Star Relics and Gods the one who deployed the Barrier considers his/her enemy".) |
