Chapter 54: Epilogue.

Two years later.

Miroku stirred, rolling over in his bed as the smell of breakfast invaded his nostrils. Opening his eyes, he saw his bed empty, and groaned as he sat up. Rubbing the sleep from his eyes, he threw his legs over the bed and shuffled his way to the bathroom to dress himself.

Within a few minutes, he was walking downstairs, hand gripped onto the railing. He had already fallen down the stairs once in his life, and he didn't want to do it again. Moving to stand in the doorway of the kitchen, he stayed silent, watching Kagome cook as she sang and danced with their son on her hip.

Yasu gave a toothy laugh, clapping his hands together in excitement. This was what got Miroku up in the mornings, seeing his family happy and healthy. It had been exactly two years since that day that had changed their life for the better.

The cops had come in and assessed the situation. Miroku had been handcuffed and taken to the back of a police car, and there he was questioned on what happened. He told them everything, leaving nothing out. For a moment he had thought he was going to go to jail for killing Kouga.

However, the security system had recorded everything in the hallway, because it led to the front door. That, with Kouga's previous history that everyone knew of due to the publicity of the divorce, Miroku was released.

Ginta and Hakkaku were taken into custody and they sang a pretty little tune, admitting everything they had done for Kouga. They also confessed to what all Kouga did, though it didn't matter since Kouga was dead. They went to jail for fifteen years, but the family had no worry that they would ever bother them again. Without their ringleader, they were useless.

Touga had survived being shot, the bullet missing all vital organs. He never missed a chance to lift his shirt, show off his wound, and tell the chilly tale of how he saved his son from being shot and killed. They all now knew how he would say it word for word.

With Kouga dead and gone, things finally began to normalize for everyone. Touga healed, and then rebuilt the law firm for him and Sesshomaru. Naraku never did come back, still needing extensive therapy for his full body burns. He and Kagura married, and they keep in touch often. Kagura was able to finish her schooling and could now fly any plane she wanted.

Sesshomaru and Naomi married shortly after Kouga's death. Currently they were expecting their first child, only a month away from the expected arrival of their daughter. Sesshomaru was panicking, though he tried not to show it. He had learned to help with Yasu, but like Miroku, he had those new father fears. Izayoi was ecstatic about the number of grandchildren rising, and constantly pressured InuYasha and Sango to give her another one.

InuYasha and Sango were planning their wedding. As is everything with them, they did it slowly, the date still set for a year later. InuYasha had refused to ask, worried about getting rejected again. A year into their relationship, Sango finally broke down and asked him. He agreed immediately.

Souta had stepped into managing the bar as Sango planned her wedding. Aito had also taken a job at the bar. He had replaced Kagome as the bartender and was just as good as Kagome had ever been. They had a few new girls at Safe haven, one who had her eye on Kohaku. The shy younger male didn't know how to handle it, and kept running, taking after his sister. Souta had eventually started dating Yura, and they were still together. When she came of age, she decided she wanted to try her hand at stripping and was doing well.

Safe Haven was thriving. It continued to help save girls under Miroku's, Sango, and Souta's watchful eyes. It grew so large that Miroku actually opened a second location. This one was a little different. Kagome wanted to supply more options for the girls if they didn't want to strip, so the first floor was a restaurant. That opened many options for the girls. If they wished to strip for extra cash, they still could. Underneath the restaurant was the new strip club, Broken Chains. It was thriving just as well as Safe Haven was.

Kagome was still in school, though she was close to being finished. Another six months, and she would have her degree in counseling. She already used what she learned to help any girls that came to them. She mothered them all, helped them to get over their past, and she along with the others were a major asset to helping the girls get back onto their feet.

"How long are you going to keep staring, Miroku?" Kagome smiled at him from over her shoulder, and he gave a half smirk, eyes full of contentment and love.

"It is a fine sight. Seeing my wife dancing with my son. I could watch it all day." He pushed off the wall, walking up to his family, kissing them both on the head. Yasu laughed, wiping away the kiss, not liking the feeling.

Kagome set him down, watching as he ran off and dive bombed the many toys he had scattered around the house. Turning her attention to her husband, she reached into her pocket, pulling out a small card. "I felt like giving you something. To thank you for being such a wonderful husband and father."

"I have you and Yasu. That's all I need." Still, he took the envelope from her, curiosity getting the best of him. He opened it, pulling out a black and white photo. He looked at Kagome with excited eyes, recognizing exactly what it was. "You're pregnant!"

She nodded, leaning into him and then pointed at the ultrasound again. "Look closely."

He looked again, taking a second to figure out what she was pointing out. When he did, his eyes widened, and he looked at Kagome with wide and shocked eyes. She laughed, and he kissed her, spinning her around in both excitement and a tad bit of fear. The ultrasound showed his newest child, nestled right beside its sibling. "Twins. What are we going to do with twins?"

"We are going to love them and spoil them." Miroku smiled down at Kagome as she leaned up for a kiss, and he closed the space between them, sealing their fate as their family grew from three to five. He couldn't wait to tell everyone else. Their life was finally normal, everything that he had ever wanted. It was perfect.

THE END

Editor Notes:

I just wanted to say what an absolute pleasure it was to be included in the process of this story. I enjoyed every single moment reading it!

At times it had me on edge, trying to figure out what was going to happen next. Other times it had me sad, happy, laughing, and crying.
