How To Train Your Dragon: Freya's Watchful Eye: Chapter 20: The Storm and Back To The Past

It was several hours since Cadman was banished and Hiccup and Astrid was helped to their new home by Rebecca, Jason and their family. It was decided by the entire war council that it would be best for them to be home by themselves for the night to help their healing and to adjust to Cadman's banishment. Once Cadman was out to sea Stoick and Lavender approached Jason, Rebecca and Alexandria offering to stay with them at their homes and they gladly excepted so Hiccup and Astrid wouldn't be disturbed for the night. The storm that blew in was like nothing Berk had ever seen before as a massive storm raged over the island in the early hours of the morning. Freezing rain was pouring down on the tiny little village as massive waves were crashing on the shores of Borland the fishing dock where all the ships were at port. The storm was raging so bad that it caused some of the ships to become beached. Hiccup and Astrid were both huddled around the fire in their new watchtower home as Toothless and Blackhawk were resting opposite of Hiccup and Astrid, and their snore's the only sign that they were calm. Thunder and lightning were plentiful as the storm continued. Hiccup was looking into the warm fire holding onto Astrid. Cadman had left the island only hours earlier after being banished from the Clan. This caused Hiccup to actually get a little concerned about Cadman's safety because he was out at sea headed to "The Outcast Island" and he was in this nasty storm.

I wonder if Cadman is going to be okay in this storm. It is getting worse outside and I haven't seen anything like this before, even for Berk. We've had storms before, but this doesn't feel like a normal storm.

Hiccup said and Astrid looked over to the window that looked out to the sea. She was also concerned about her own father. Even though he had killed her dragon, Stormfly, and nearly killed her and Hiccup, he was still her father and if he died out at sea she would never know it. Astrid held onto her stomach with one hand as she replied feeling worried herself.

I know honey and as much as I hate to admit it, I am too.

Astrid said as Hiccup looked over to her and saw that the look on her face was one of concern.

I thought you didn't care what happened to him.

Hiccup said and Astrid nodded then walked over to the window. A large piece a Yak leather was stretched across it to keep the cold air out. Astrid pulled the Yak leather back to look out the window answering Hiccup.

I know my dad had sailed through tough storms but those were showers compared to this one. Like you said dear this don't feel like a normal storm.

Astrid said and Hiccup was actually surprised that Astrid, who had only a day earlier had wished death upon her father, was now concerned for his safety.

What's with the sudden change of heart?

Do you think Cadman will come around?

I'm sure if he sees the baby when he or she is born, or even after it has been born he'll come around. He'll show up at some point in their life but knowing my father now, I highly doubt it since he now has no family here on Berk.

Astrid said and Hiccup cracked a smile as Astrid leaned her head onto his shoulder. She then wrapped her arms around Hiccup and closed her eyes continuing to speak.

You know… It's feels strange with Alexandria, Rebecca and Jason on Berk. It feels like both Alex and Rebecca love us dearly and really want to be wives to you honey.

Astrid said and Hiccup looked over the portrait on the mantel. He knew that Astrid was still upset that she had lost Stormfly and the fact that the storm was now wreaking havoc on the tiny village of Berk. It was understandable that she was concerned about the dragons of Berk. Hiccup decided to put her mind at ease.

As soon as I felt the first rain drop I ran back to the Dragon Academy and put the dragons safely in their pens, they should be fine. Once there is a chance I'll go look in on them just for you love. I don't want you to worry.

Hiccup said to reassure Astrid and sighed, and then looked over at Blackhawk.

Toothless and Blackhawk also helped by lifting the cut lumber into place and keeping it there so Hiccup could nail it down. Meanwhile Astrid stayed downstairs placing buckets underneath each leak when they would show up. It was complete chaos down stairs. The stairs started to look like a waterfall coming down each step. After one leak would go away another would appear as Astrid was running around the bottom floor. She had to yell up the stairs to Hiccup as she was trying to stop the flood of water.

How much longer on that hole Hiccup? I need some help down here, it's a mad house with all this water coming in.

Astrid said as Hiccup was trying to go as fast as he could. The hole that the perch had made was a decent size hole and was a pain in the ass to fix. As the rain was coming down hitting Hiccup in the face making it hard to see he replied.

Hiccup gave both Toothless and Blackhawk a glance at them with a smirk before turning back to Astrid speaking.

It's all done, thanks to Toothless and Blackhawk's help. But we really didn't need another soaking, I mean we already are soaked as it is.

Hiccup said and Astrid looked at him and gave a frustrated sigh while both Toothless and let out deep grunts of dragon laughter. Astrid then went up the stairs to their bedroom and began to pick out new, dry clothes. She then grabbed a towel from the closet before heading back down stairs handing a towel to Hiccup.

Get undressed and dry off, your soaked to the bone. I'm not going to have my husband sick because your soaked. If you're a good boy I'll let you fuck me again, but you have to wait and see.

Hiccup went to take a step but fell to one knee holding on to Toothless.

Hiccup was saying but Astrid put a finger to his lips stopping him from his train of thought knowing what he was trying to say. She smiled before she replied lovingly.

Yes, I ate and the babies are just fine, and no I didn't do anything to push myself or do anything stupid like you honey. Valka and mom wouldn't let me and they scolded me when I tried.

Astrid said as a booming laugh was heard and Stoick was walking up nodding with a smile before he spoke.

Aye, there lad, Valka and Lav wouldn't let the lass do nothin'. They had her sit and eat until she couldn't eat any more. Ya wife did to help around the village, but Lav and Valka wouldn't have none of it.

Stoick said and Hiccup looked for Toothless and Blackhawk speaking.

Toothless, Blackhawk…

Hiccup called out and Astrid smiled knowing he was worried about them since they were in Berk during the Dragon Wars. But she put his mind at ease speaking.

Hiccup honey, they are with the kids giving them rides around Berk with mom and Valka. It's a good thing that you showed me how to open Toothless's tail assembly. Come on let's get you up and walking around so they can use Mead Hall tonight.

Astrid said and then helped Hiccup to his feet. Stoick, Astrid and Hiccup walked out as Toothless came flying past with Valka riding on top holding onto what looked like a one year old Snotlout. Blackhawk came flying by with Lavender and Fishlegs but she turned around and then landed in front of Hiccup and Astrid.

You have some very special dragons lad, and the kids seem to like the ride.

Lavender said climbing off of Blackhawk and Hiccup shook his head walking up as he replied.

They are just as scared as we are and thank you, but Blackhawk and Toothless are in danger if they fly. I don't know what the range is that the Green death has to control the other dragons so no more flying unless it's myself or Astrid.

Hiccup said as Toothless landed with Valka and she climbed off of his back before she spoke.

Ah come on son, what can it hurt to have yur dragons do a bit of flyin with the kids?

Valka asked and Hiccup just pointed to his left leg replying.

This mom, this. I went up against that bitch and I was lucky that I just lost my left foot. I scared the shit out of Astrid and everyone because I almost died, and I'm not taking that chance again. Once is enough for me thank you, but I'm surprised that you and Lavender took to them so quickly.

Hiccup said making Lavender and Valka giggle while Stoick spoke.

I think it's just the opposite lad, they took to us. I guess because we're your mom's they know a mother's love better than any of us do.

Stoick said putting a massive hand on Hiccup's shoulder. Hiccup was confused because Stoick, Lavender, and Valka were acting like parents to Astrid and himself, which caused him to speak.

So you all now believe us that we're your kids?

Hiccup asked and Valka looked over at Lavender, Stoick and Astrid. it took Valka a few minutes before she spoke again.

Hiccup, Astrid told us about how Cadman challenged Stoick for leadership and that happened three months ago. She even spoke of how Cadman and Lavender got married while you were asleep. Most of the details no one knows but you two do. Only our families know that, so we have no choice but to think your my son and Astrid is Lavender's daughter. But the rest is a bit hard to swallow. These future events she told us about just seem too hard to understand. But for now yes, we believe you.

Valka told a surprised Hiccup. He looked over at Astrid and she was smiling brightly reaching out her hand to take his. Stoick and Lavender left to Mead Hall to help with something, but what Hiccup and Astrid were unsure of. Toothless and Blackhawk were trying to show the villagers that they were meaning no harm while the kids didn't understand that they were dragons and they could eat them. The kids were climbing all over Toothless to his annoyance but Blackhawk kept a watchful eye on them and when the children got to close to Toothless's face she would pick them up by the back of their tunics and set them away from him or hand them to their parents. The only two that Blackhawk watched closely more than the other children was a baby Hiccup and a baby Astrid as they lay by her belly and she had her tail laying just far enough to let them move a bit.

Valka was walking around the village with Hiccup and Astrid as they were telling her things that happened or in her case will happen, and she smiled and giggled hearing all the stories. Astrid looked over at Hiccup as she saw for the first time a few genuine smiles on his face. She was happy that he got a chance to spend time with his mother since their Valka disappeared when he was a baby. Night fell on the Berk of the past, and the whole village was in Mead Hall to celebrate the hero's that saved the village. Stoick stood up and took his son by the shoulders while Lavender did the same for Astrid. Valka smiled as she joined her husband and son while Gothi nodded. Hiccup looked at Astrid wondering what was going on and saw she was just as confused as he was. Gothi pulled a gold ribbon from off of a nearby table before placing Hiccup's left hand and Astrid's together. This shocked and surprised the entire village when they saw Gothi tie their hands together with the gold ribbon. Gothi smiled before she looked at the two of them and it was Stoick who spoke.

Gothi is sayin' ya two are officially married son. Ya mother and I got married with that same ribbon and now it's yur's fur ya kids. We decided to surprise ya after Astrid told ya was married by Goddess Freya herself with a bit more detail.

Stoick explained and this caused both Astrid and Hiccup to smile before kissing each other. The entire hall erupted into cheers before they went and sat back down. Astrid, Hiccup, Lavender, Cadman, Valka and Stoick were sitting at the head table with Gothi while Toothless and Blackhawk were chowing down on two baskets of fish each on the side. Mead was poured for everyone, but Astrid refused do to her pregnancy and so did Hiccup. He explained that he would only once and that was for their wedding back in their time. Stoick let out a booming laugh slapping Hiccup on the back. Cadman was looking over at Astrid not overly happy that she bested him. Astrid knew that at some point he would be drunk just enough to say something and sure enough after three mugs of mead he did.

Lass, ya play dirty fur a Viking I challenge ya to a fight and I'd let ya choose how.

Cadman bellowed and this made the entire hall go silent. Astrid looked over to Hiccup and then to Stoick. She was going to say something but Hiccup stood up speaking in her stead.

No, absolutely not, I will not allow this do to her carrying my children. You want a rematch Cadman then I'll take her place, but I warn you now; when it comes to a fight there is no rules. It will be to first blood.

Hiccup told him and he just laughed which made Hiccup a bit irritated as he replied.

Ya think ya can best me runt, only a true Viking knows how to fight and fur the looks of ya yur no Viking ta me. Ya fly around on those big lizards and get rid of dragons, they ata be on my wall dead than alive. If ya want ta play with the big boys then fine I except ya terms boy, fight to first blood it is, but ya already wounded and this will be quick.

Cadman said as he was waving his mug of mead around making it fall out of his cup all over Lavender and Gothi. Hiccup stood up and nodded before he spoke.

As you wish Cadman, To first blood it is, and don't worry about me being wounded. My wife knows how to look after me when I am in need of healing.

Hiccup replied as Stoick looked over at Cadman.

The lad is right Cad…man yur too drunk ta fight. The lad would surely have the advantage and ya just making an ass out of ya self.

Stoick said as he too was a bit drunk but Cadman was insistent in fighting. Hiccup looked over at Astrid who was shaking her head not believing that even this younger Cadman was just as stupid as the one from their time. She just told Hiccup to not open his chest wound and to show him that he is a real Viking. Hiccup looked over at Cadman and knew what he was going to choose as he spoke walking to the center of Mead Hall.

Ok Cadman if you really want to fight that badly then let's do it like real Vikings. No weapons and it will be hand to hand, first one to bleed or is knocked out loses.

Hiccup said as Cadman smiled thinking that because Hiccup was well a hiccup, a runt, he will best him. Hiccup took off his tunic as per the custom of Berk to show he had no weapons and the only thing he had was his bandages around his chest. However it showed that he was very well built with a six pack ab's and lean. Cadman did the same and he may have been a mountain of muscle but his gut was showing that he was losing some of it. Stoick stood up as everyone stayed quiet.

This is Viking vs. Viking no one interfere, no weapons as it's hand to hand. First one ta bleed or is knocked out loses.

Stoick said as Hiccup was in the middle of Mead Hall waiting for Cadman. Cadman finally stood a good distance away with a smirk on his face speaking in a taunting manner.

If ya win laddie, I'll know ya a true Viking and give ya 100 gold pieces to show ya that I'm a good sport. But if I win ya have ta admit ya no Viking and leave the village and ya wife stay.

Cadman said and Hiccup rolled his eyes then looked over at Astrid, and he knew what she was going to say but he looked back at Cadman before she could protest speaking.

I won't leave without my wife Cadman, we're married by our laws and by goddess Freya herself. Ya can't separate us even if you wanted too. But if you win against me then we'll leave the village peacefully and not come back. I know this won't take long so I'll tell you what is exactly going to happen, first you'll find yourself flat on your back and then your head will bounce off the stone meeting my fist knocking you out in three minutes or less.

Hiccup said confidently and this got Cadman to laugh thinking Hiccup was just pulling his leg. He went charging at Hiccup and once Cadman was in arm's reach Hiccup dodged it grabbing Cadman by the wrist. Hiccup used Cadman's own momentum to flip him on to his back and his head bounced off the stone floor and met a hard punch from Hiccup's fist not once but three times before he was knocked out. Hiccup let go of Cadman and walked over to the table. Everyone was quiet because they have never seen Cadman be bested in a hand to hand fight by someone twice as small as he was. Astrid was checking if Hiccup opened his chest wound again. while she was putting new bandages on as Stoick let out a booming laugh slapping one of his massive hands on the table making everything bounce around and rattle while he spoke.

That's my son, hahahaha…. Cadman got beat fair and square, let it be known to all Vikings that a boy beat a man in honorable combat like a Viking should.

Stoick boomed as Lavender looked over at Hiccup as she replied.

Aye he did. Son what was that you used? I have never seen a Viking move like what you did.

Lavender asked curiously and Hiccup was going to explain bit Astrid spoke while wrapping new bandages on her husband.

Mother, it's a secret just for me and Hiccup. Oh since we don't know how long we'll be here, I better warn you now that Hiccup and I go for a run naked every day and practice what we know. Beside that we're very sexually active, so don't mind us if ya see a few things ya shouldn't.

Astrid said not looking at Lavender as she was almost finished wrapping new bandages around Hiccup's chest. Valka looked over at Lavender and knew what she was thinking which caused her to speak.

Astrid are you sure that that's wise dearie, I mean after all your with child.

Valka asked and this made Astrid roll her eyes then turn to Valka and Lavender.

I know your concerns for Hiccup and our children Valka, but we have not missed a day of our run or practice. It's good to do some exercise before I can't. At least that's what the healer said in our time, and having sex while pregnant is a good way for me to stay relaxed as much as possible.

Astrid said then Lavender slumped down in her chair while Valka did the same. The celebration lasted late into the night; Astrid and Hiccup was invited to stay with Stoick and Valka while they were so far from home. The next morning it was the usual for Astrid, Morning Sickness which she hoped would end soon. Hiccup was a great help to her in that department holding her hair away from her face so nothing got in it. Then it was the running which they enjoyed together. They walked out of Stoick and Valka's home naked and the villagers were shocked but they didn't pay any attention to how they looked. Valka and Lavender came walking up in nothing but a towel, before Astrid or Hiccup could ask Valka looked at them in a motherly way before speaking.

If you think you're going to run naked by ya selves, then we're doing this together and I am not going to hear a no from either of you.

Valka told them as Lavender had to ask a question.

How far do you run every day?

Lavender asked and Astrid looked over at Hiccup and then back to her giggling before she replied honestly.

60 miles and that's twice around all of Berk, hope you two can keep up.

Astrid said as Valka dropped her towel as she spoke shocking the village.

Hey I'm not that old, let's see what you got Astrid.

Valka said as Lavender dropped hers as well, then they started their run with Toothless and Blackhawk running with the four of them. They all made it back into the village and Astrid and Hiccup ran past Stoick, Gobber and Gothi. Lavender and Valka had to stop at her home to pick up their towels. Once they did and wrapped themselves they walked over to Stoick, Gobber and Gothi a bit out of breath and sweating as Valka spoke.

Man those kids can run, they ran through the forest, up and down the cliffs and all over the place. We're exhausted and those kids still have the energy to keep running at that pace.

Valka said as Gobber, Gothi and Stoick nodded, and Stoick looked at Valka shaking his head as he replied.

Aye, they do Val, I'm not approvin' of you running like them though.

Stoick said and Valka smirked looking at Stoick placing a hand on his cheek as she spoke.

Oh come on love, you know we ran around the forest naked then made sweet love. How do you think Hiccup was made? Or is it you want baby number two and you just don't want to say it?

Valka told him playfully and teased him in an adult way, however Stoick didn't take the bait. Astrid and Hiccup came running into the village and stopped at the house as Valka was cleaned and dressed waiting for them. She walked them inside and let them get cleaned up. Hiccup and Astrid decided not to practice what they knew while they were in the past since they didn't have their training room. Astrid went to go spend time with Lavender and Hiccup went to do the same with Valka. Astrid and Hiccup were having some mother daughter time and mother son time, for both of them it was just what a goddess ordered so to speak.

Astrid and Hiccup were walking in the forest on their second day with Stoick and Valka just talking. They walked to the same spot that they met Valka and Stoick. Someone was waiting for them leaning up against the tree and Astrid and Hiccup knew who it was. Hiccup looked over at his mother and father feeling a bit upset but Astrid took ahold of his hand knowing it was time to go home. Astrid felt bad for Hiccup because this was going to be the last time he would see his mother as Freya walked up to the four of them. Hiccup and Astrid was looking that both Stoick and Valka who were looking at Freya. They both were curious about who she was, but they didn't want to mention it to them because it may scare them.

Mom… dad…

Hiccup said as Valka knew that Hiccup and Astrid was going to leave them.

I know son, I know. Listen you take care of Astrid and those babies, and try to not get yourself into too much trouble. I love you very much son and that goes for Astrid too.

Valka said, and they disappeared not being able to say anything or get another hug.
