The Apex Predator
Description and Historical Data: An ancient alpha predator species of highly-evolved synapsids from the Early Permian era; who've adapted to harnessing the unique properties of nuclear energy and material as a form of sustenance, and the source of their awesome power. But like all species on Earth whether it be past, present or even future. Their true origins come from deep beneath the primordial subterranean ecosystem known as the Hollow Earth. Periodically surfacing to the world above to gain new territory and find new sources of nuclear materials to feed upon. Those who've encountered a member of this species have called it many worthy titles over the eons.
The Hollow Earth Kingdoms of Lemuria and Shamballa worship them as Bringers of Storms and Floods. The Iwi of Skull Island fears them as Zo-Zla-Halawa, beasts who devour dying stars to empower themselves. The inter-dimensional Precursors of Mars respect them as enforcers of the natural balance on Earth, or Terra in Precursor dialect. And the superstitious fisherman of Odo Island believes them as demons from the sea who represent nature's furious wrath.
While the brave people here at Monarch Sciences, as well as the general public, refer to them by a more unique name: Gojirasaurus Progenitus.
However, their true name would send chills and etch into the hearts and minds of humanity forever ever since the first encounter in 1954.
After the chaotic rampage of a rage-fuelled thirty-five meter tall albino Megaprimatus Kong specimen, one of many apex predators on Skull Island, was showcased at Broadway to the public by filmmaker Carl Denham; went on the search for one beloved Ann Darrow somewhere on the streets of New York City in 1933. As well as its subsequent demise atop the Empire State Building from the rapid machine-gun fire of the US Air Force biplanes. Mankind decided that they would stop picking their noses into uncharted territories harboring prehistoric creatures, and continue their focus and efforts on the ever-looming threat of World War Two just on the horizon. With the memory of the infamous 1933 incident now shoved to the back of the minds of the people during the war. The existence of giant monsters became an afterthought, or so they foolishly assumed.
The year was 1954. World War Two concluded a decade prior with the death of Adolf Hitler and the United States dropping their two brand new atomic bombs on the Japanese cities of Hiroshima and Nagasaki which led to Japan's surrender. But while the nation of Japan started to pick up the pieces and start anew, they surely didn't expect a calamity far worse than the bombings to reveal itself from the shores of Odo Island with a purposeful grimace and a terrible sound…
It was November 3rd, 1954. After weeks of reports regarding the mysterious disappearances of several fishing vessels and their crew near the atomic bomb test sites located in the Bikini Atoll. Japan became silent witnesses to the cause, and the aberration of nature that shouldn't have existed but it did as it laid siege to an entire fishing village in broad daylight as people with film and photography equipment shot lasting images of the beast before it swam out to sea, leaving Odo Island devastated in its wake.
An eighty-eight meter tall and two-hundred and five meter long beast weighing in approximately 90,000 tons; covered in bulky scarred charcoal-black osteoderms and exposed flesh that emitted a crimson hue, with an upright bipedal bear-like posture and dinosaur-like in appearance with a robust-reptilian head with soulless shark-like eyes and gills on the sides of the beast's broad neck, steel-crushing jaws filled with rows of serrated teeth, a pair of powerful yet short arms equipped with three sharp claws and an opposable fourth sharp-clawed thumb, two massive and bulky sauropod-like legs with four defined yet sharp toe-claws that could crush anything under its colossal weight, and equipped with an elongated round-ended tail that it used to stabilize itself on land and to propel itself underwater faster than ships and submarines or swat away incoming aircraft like a flyswatter. Its most defining feature were the three rows of massive white-crystalline dorsal plates shaped like the sharp peaks of mountains that lined atop the creature's back to the tip of its tail.
Dr. Kohei Yamane, a palaeontology and zoology professor at the University of Tokyo, and one of the survivors of the Odo Island Attack, named this beast, Gojira, after the sea demon of Odo Island folklore to the United Nation representatives who were sent to gather intel of the attack from two days ago. While Dr. Yamane and the scientific community argued that Gojira should be seen as a product of natural selection and evolution on Earth accidentally awakened by mankind rather than some mindless monster. However, the council and the public disagreed as fear of the next attack happening soon and unfortunately, they were correct on that notion.
Three days after Gojira attacked Odo Island. Gojira surfaced unexpectedly from Tokyo Bay and headed to the main city of Tokyo during Saturday evening. During this five hour rampage: conventional weaponry such as tanks, fighter planes, missiles and bullets proved to be ineffective of piercing through Gojira's dense hide as even the modified electric fence that used all available electricity from Tokyo's citywide power grid didn't even faze the monster!
In retaliation, Gojira demonstrated its ultimate weapon: The Atomic Breath.
As human weaponry continued to do so little against Gojira. A steady pulse of energy flashed a bright violet hue from the tip of its tail that rose up to the red vein-like markings on its white-crystalline dorsal plates; Gojira then took a deep breath and exhaled a purple-colored spiral-wrapped concentrated stream of pure superheated radiation that showed no mercy upon the infrastructure and civilians alike. The atomic breath scorched the entire prefecture ablaze for hours on end with even Tokyo Tower being cut in half with the top half sent crashing onto the ground below. The siege of Tokyo finally ended when Gojira headed back to sea to rest as midnight came. But as the debris settled and cleared. Tokyo was but a mere shadow of its former self and covered in deadly doses of radiation. As Tokyo became a war zone overnight, and a place void of life the morning after.
Those who lived didn't take this lightly, calling for the aid of the Japanese government to avenge their fallen family and friends by destroying the monster. Unfortunately, they simply didn't have enough manpower or resources any more to do such a Herculean task until a colleague of Dr. Yamane arrived. A veteran of World War Two, and now brilliant chemist named Dr. Daisuke Serizawa stepped forward to those present and revealed his ultimate weapon: The Oxygen Destroyer.
And the rest is history.
As of 2024, Monarch Sciences has discovered four other members of Gojirasaurus Progenitus over the last seventy years following the death of the re-named 1954 Gojirasaurus Progenitus aberrant: [HAKAI-SHIN]. Three of whom discovered are siblings who exhibit unique individual traits and characteristics from one another, are codenamed [TOHRU], [KRATOS], and [DAGON]; the surviving offspring and legacy of the 1954 aberration, who've matured enough since their discovery in 1999 to reach the sub-adult stage under the careful watch of Dr. Haruo Serizawa, great-grandson of Daisuke Serizawa who valiantly sacrificed himself to destroy the first aberrant. The fourth adult specimen, while similar in biology to the other specimens but doesn't possess aberrant physiological or psychological traits unlike his relatives, is codenamed: [GODZILLA]. Designated as a non-aberrant pure specimen and heavily monitored by Monarch Sciences via orbital satellites and sensor beacons everywhere on Earth ever since emerging in 2004 during the final months of the three-decades-long Pacific Rim Conflict, and eventual re-emergence during the 2014 Jinshin Mushi Attack of San Francisco, and the 2019 Godzilla Vs Kong Vs Mechagodzilla Rumble of Hong Kong.
While equally as violent and ferocious like the Hakai-Shin but more powerful and double in size than his predecessor. Godzilla does not truly care about humanity's presence and tolerates other TITANS unless provoked as he chooses to return to the sea and hibernate after defeating other ancient rivals. But with the emergence of Godzilla In the last two decades: an exponential increase in worldwide marine life and a significant decrease in man-made pollution of the planet's oceans followed soon afterward. Suggesting that Godzilla's presence creates a positive effect to the planet's natural ecosystem whenever he is active.
Abilities: Thanks to their unique evolutionary adaptation of absorbing nuclear energy and material as a source of food. Gojirasaurus Progenitus specimens with enough nuclear material, can outlive most organisms for hundreds of millions of years along with their most impressive bonus ability of near-instantaneous regeneration. The prime example being Godzilla himself and his already impressive lifespan of being approximately one hundred and fifty million years-old.
When on the offensive or the defensive, Gojirasaurus Progenitus specimens can harness their internal surplus of nuclear energy to unleash their primary weapon, a destructive beam of pure superheated radiation affectionately labeled: The Atomic Breath. One of the deadliest natural defenses on the planet, the standard atomic breath has an energy yield output of 7.15 times ten to the power of twelve tera-joules and a high temperature of 570,000 degrees celsius with an observeral range of 2000 miles, able to easily melt through any non-organic solid material and vaporize any non-protected organic material in a flash at point-blank range. During combat: the standard blue-white variant of atomic breath used by Godzilla is activated by drawing stored energy from the Gojirasaurus' jagged bony-white maple-leaf shaped dorsal plates that emit a bright blue glow which triggers a bio-electrical neutron flux from a specialized organ in the animal's nucleosynthetic throat chambers where it then spews out into a concentrated beam of ionizing radiation from the animal's gaping maw. However, further studies suggests that Godzilla's atomic breath may even be more powerful than realized as testimonies from members of the 2019 Kong Hollow Earth Relocation Initiative which include Dr. Aaron Brooks, Dr. Ilene Andrews and their adopted Iwi daughter Jia; all of whom witnessed Godzilla's atomic breath piercing through thousands of miles of solid bedrock, molten rock, and hardened Yggdrasil bio-matter that made up the Hollow Earth's protective shell until it impacted one of many Seeds of Yggdrasil from within the ancient Megaprimatus Kong Fortress, and thus creating an anomalous gravitational slipstream to the neon-lit cityscape of Hong Kong above where Godzilla and Kong would soon fight. As such, recent studies currently estimates the energy yield output and temperature of this supercharged variant of atomic breath to be approximately twenty-five terawatts and 5,000,000 degrees celsius; that is enough power to obliterate continental plates or even slice the moon in half!
However, the cost of using this powerful atomic breath was that Godzilla was nearly depleted of nuclear energy, unable to fully regenerate, and only able to fire short rapid consecutive bursts for most of his three hour night-time battle against an axe-wielding Kong until their fight against Mechagodzilla, the morning after.
When overwhelmed by numerous threats. A Gojirasaurus can deploy a short-ranged Nuclear Pulse from all over its body as a defensive measure against surrounding TITANS or any vehicular anti-TITANS craft within the pulse's scorching 78,000 degrees celsius and five mile blast radius. Activation of this nuclear pulse is characterized by blinding flashes of the Gojirasaurus' dorsal plates and jaw followed by a high-pitched sound reminiscent of electrical sparks and industrial grinding of metal combined with the sound of thunder. This natural defence was first observed during Godzilla's involvement in the final months of the Pacific Rim Conflict, and most recently during his fight and tag-team match against Mechagodzilla with Kong, respectively in Hong Kong.
Another evolutionary advantage that this species has developed are silvery protective nictictating membranes reminiscent of those found in reptile and shark biology, deployed to protect a Gojirasaurus' eyes from the blinding light and intense heat generated when firing their atomic breath or from stray small arms fire and anti-TITANS artillery. It also glows the different individual's respective atomic breath color when in use.
Gojirasaurus Progenitus may be lumbering city-destroying creatures with a top speed of 205 miles per hour on land. But when located in an aquatic environment: they are incredible swimmers able to outrun most seaworthy vessels due to their top speed of 125 nautical knots and excellent maneuvering skills all thanks to their lengthy powerful tails and dorsal plates which act a means of steering, lift and propulsion.
At 181 decibels and a maximum range of fifteen miles. The alpha roar of an adult Gojirasaurus Progenitus is one of the loudest sounds recorded on the planet. if this roar is to be heard at a minimal range of three miles: windows shatter instantly, car alarms activate, shake buildings, rippling of any liquid, disorientation, permanent deafness, or even possible death from ruptured organs and blood vessels through a phenomenon known as an air embolism because of the the intense air pressure generated from the roar's sound waves.
Because of their amphibious lifestyle and physiology which have allowed this species to hibernate inside their preferred dwelling of deep underwater trenches or ancient Hollow Earth ruins which leak geothermal radioactive material from the planet's molten core. Their unique tungsten-reinforced bone structure has accommodated this behaviour by millions of years of adaptation, as a means to survive the crushing pressure of the deep oceans, and also allow for fluid and fast movement in both land and sea while keeping structural integrity intact. Along with a thick and durable exterior hide layered in rough osteoderms, and an interior fatty yet muscular tissue that can resist intense water pressure, molten volcanic magma, and withstand the freezing temperatures of the North and South Pole regions on Earth.
Thanks to the constantly updated findings on the sub-adults conducted by Dr. Haruo Serizawa and his research team at Monarch Outpost 54. These animals possess above-average intelligence on the level of dolphins and primates with the ability to understand emotion, strategize, solve puzzles, and even understand language to a certain extent. Because of this invaluable research: modern civilization is one step closer to achieving co-existence with the TITANS.
Weaknesses: Observed during the 2014 Jinshin-Mushi Attack of San Francisco: an atomic breath can simply be weakened or absolutely negated by a powerful well-timed electromagnetic pulse. This fascinating discovery was made when five adult specimens from a species of Late Permian parasitic organisms evolved to become the natural predators of Gojirasaurus Progenitus, Jinshin-Mushi Shinomurae, proceeded to use their combined biological EMPs to completely halt the firing of Godzilla's atomic breath as the alpha predator was about to shoot down the last airborne Jinshin-Mushi male soaring above San Francisco's city skyline. Luckily, the EMPs weren't powerful enough to severely affect the nuclear pulse which Godzilla used to his advantage.
Although it is the source of their awesome power and existence. Gojirasaurus Progenitus specimens can be artificially starved of their life-sustaining nuclear energy through specialized chemical substances developed by Monarch Science through our partnership with APEX Manufactures and Bio-Major. One such substance is the Anti-Nuclear-Energy-Bacteria or ANEB for short. At first: ANEB's original purpose was to eat away the presence of lethal ionized radiation within a highly contaminated area, such as ANEB's first successful test in 1994 of turning the former Chernobyl Exclusion Zone into a newly habitable area free of mutations and radiation, it then later became a vital asset in stopping an adrenaline-rushed and rage-fuelled Godzilla from further attacking several damaged Jaegers after killing several alien MUTOs atop of Mt. Fuji in 2004. Around 3700 gallons of ANEB were dumped on top of the Big G that day, as the bacteria slowly ate away the cells that metabolized nuclear energy necessary for his survival. And after several minutes of constant exposure, Godzilla was forced to retreat back into the sea to restore his rapidly depleting nuclear energy reserves. Although not as potent as the decades-gone Oxygen Destroyer, ANEB has proven itself to be an effective deterrent in stopping TITANS-related attacks on sources of nuclear material following its 2004 demonstration on Godzilla.
Another weakness of this species are the amphibious gills located on the sides of their broad necks. These exposed gills are highly sensitive and when attacked: causes a Gojirasaurus to reel back in visible and audible pain. This was documented from archival records of the 1954 Hakai-Shin's siege on Tokyo, and hours of compiled internet footage from Godzilla's 2014 re-emergence such as archived livestreams and videos witnessing stray artillery rounds from tanks, ships and jets accidentally hit the animal's gills which indirectly forced Godzilla to suddenly ram through the Golden Gate Bridge, filled with evacuees and military personnel alike, in sheer pain and panic. And even TITANS such as Jinshin-Mushi Shinomurae have even exploited this fatal weakness by purposely targeting the gills to briefly incapacitate Godzilla.
Afterword: While an incredible and fascinating super-species. There are reasons as to why some have called them "forces of nature" on Earth like an earthquake or a typhoon. But like all other TITANS, benevolent or not. Godzilla and his kind are still to be feared and respectfully admired at a safe distance far away from the colossal battles they get pulled into; especially Godzilla himself. And as per usual and protocol: Monarch Sciences will continue their efforts to research, understand and monitor their activity for the foreseeable future like with any other super-species in our ever-growing catalogue.
