The Gathering of the Seven.
Chapter Three: The Mage.
The Abandoned Mine.
When he was a child, Ryu could remember every story his grandfather had told him about the world and how it used to be. He could remember the way his eyes had lit up as he told the young Anguirus stories about Spicae and how he and the other Guardian Beasts would come down to Pangea, allowing the kaiju to meet them firsthand. As far as Ryu could understand, Pangea had once been a world of wonders where anything could happen, at least until the continuous war had broken out, and the kaiju were divided instead of being united, meaning the Guardian Beasts never came back and the wonders seemed to disappear into legend. As Ryu stared up at the monstrous beetle, seeing Scarab's hateful red eyes looking at him and the Ronin…. he wished that it was still only a legend that creatures like Scarab existed at one point. The Megalon roared as red electricity surged around his body and then charged as he swung his blade arms wildly and his drills powered on. The Ronin looked at Ryu and charged too, clashing his blades against the blade arms while Ryu quickly blocked the drills with his axe, sparks flying in the air as the drills grinded against his starmetal blade. Ryu dug his feet into the ground as he felt the drills press down on his axe, and watched as the Ronin got an opening, and slashed the beetle in the stomach, causing him to roar in pain and step away. As he stepped away, Ryu and the Ronin charged at Scarab, only for the beetle to roar and fire crimson lightning from his horns, right at the both of them. Ryu quickly blocked the lightning with his axe, while the Ronin dodged quickly, several bolts hitting him as he groaned in pain, and his dorsal plates started to glow as he quickly raised his broadsword up, blocking the lightning alongside Ryu. "Damn it…. he's…. he's like a demon," Ryu grunted, feeling the lightning course through his axe and start to shock him. "I don't know what to do…"
"I'll show you," the Ronin grunted as his dorsal plates started to glow even brighter, and he continued to block the lightning. "NOW!" With a quick movement, the Ronin redirected the lightning back at Scarab, electrocuting the beetle as he then fired his atomic ray out and blew a hole in the beetle's shoulder, causing a spray of black to fly in the air as Ryu saw his chance, and ran full speed at the Megalon, holding his axe as he noticed him. The Megalon's drills started screeching as Ryu leapt over them, and quickly ran up the right arm of the Megalon and quickly swung his axe, burying it deep within the compound eye of the beetle. There was a squelching noise as the eye exploded and covered the axe in dark fluid, while Scarab began to freak out and screech in pain and anger. As Ryu held onto for dear life, feeling the beetle thrashing around and the back legs trying to stab him, the Ronin ran up with both his blades up and with one slash, cut off one of the beetle's lower arms causing him to turn his attention to him, and allowing Ryu to pull his axe free and fall back to the ground, landing right next to the Ronin who was now dodging drill strikes as the Megalon roared again. Ryu quickly recovered and blocked another drill blow with his axe, before he pushed back and sent the beetle staggering as the Ronin quickly blocked a blow from the back legs and then jumped up, slicing both of them off at the same time as he dug the tachi and broadsword into the Megalon's shell, dragging it down as Scarab roared and moved away from Ryu, who then raised his axe up and dug it into one of his legs. The Ronin came out from under the beetle and slashed against the other leg, causing him to fall over as the two moved away, only to watch as he rose back up, and stated to cough violently, thick black smoke coming out of his mouth.
"WATCH OUT!" Ryu pushed the Ronin out of the way as Scarab spat out a massive Napalm bomb, and it went sailing past the kaiju and hit a wall of the cavern, exploding as rocks and boulders rained out, and collapsing several tunnels as a fire spread on the far side, much like the smaller one that was still burning. The moth still sat inside of his cage, his green eyes slowly starting to glow as he continued to mutter under his breath, seeming to draw in energy from the Earth itself. As the Ronin and Ryu got up, Scarab charged again as the Ronin growled and slung the broadsword on his back, Ryu noticing a strange slot on the Ronin's harness that seemed to fit the shape of the broadsword, and as the beetle thrust his drills at the two again, two things happened. Ryu blocked both drills with his axe, and the Ronin ran up the beetle's left arm and quickly slashed the other eye causing Scarab to disengage his drills and roar louder as he started thrashing around blindly, his horn lightning going everywhere as he blindly started swinging his remaining limbs around in an attempt to kill the two kaiju. His golden exoskeleton was being stained with more black fluid, and even though his missing limbs had stopped bleeding, it seemed as if nothing would slow the beetle down, to the point where his exposed heart was beating rapidly. "Damn it… I don't know what to do now…. it's like everything we do is just slowing him down…" The beetle suddenly stopped firing, and started making a strange clicking noise, listening to the echoes throughout the chamber as his drills started to spin again, and more black smoke spewed out of his mandibles.
"If I could get him airborne for a minute, and go for the heart," the Ronin said, Ryu listening as the beetle started to approach them, "I could finish this quickly. Ryu, how strong are you?"
"What do you need me to do?" Ryu asked this as the Megalon continued to click, and more smoke spewed out of the mandibles.
"Get both of us airbone," the Ronin answered, causing Ryu's eyes to widen with shock.
"Both of you," a strange voice suddenly spoke, both the Ronin and Ryu listening as they noticed a bright light coming from the cage. "Shield your eyes….. and I will help you." Both Ryu and the Ronin then shut their eyes as the light got brighter, and the moth stood up, his entire body flowing as he held out one both his hands, and his wings unfurled. Had the Ronin and Ryu been looking, they would've seen a pair of segmented wings with jagged tips and with beautiful white orange and blue patterns, along with two massive blue orange and red eyespots that seemed to glow white as the moth channeled his power. "FEEL THE POWER OF THE SUN!" The light burst out, and the two kaiju heard Scarab roar in pain, and then the light die down and a single voice in their minds telling them something. "Now's your chance! Take it!" Ryu and the Ronin looked, and saw Scarab stumbling around as a strange light seemed to keep him from echolocating, and the two looked at each other, the Ronin sheathing his tachi and drawing out his broadsword and Ryu holding onto his axe as they rushed out. More smoke spewed out as Scarab heard their footsteps, and he fired his napalm bomb at them.
"Not this time!" Ryu swung his axe, and sent the bomb flying back at Scarab, watching as the massive explosion sent the beetle flying into the air, and at the same time leaving a small crater in the ground. Setting his axe down, he looked at the Ronin and grabbed his tail, and swung him around, before tossing him right at the descending beetle. "He's all yours!"
"I told you Scarab," the Ronin growled as he quickly swung the broadsword upon reaching the beetle, "this sword is my birthright, and it belongs to no one but me. NOW FACE THE WRATH OF THE HAZUKI CLAN!" Pieces of the beetle ran down as the Ronin kept slicing through him, and dark fluid streamed out as the Ronin cut through his heart, right before he did one final downward strike, separating the Megalon's head from his body. As the pieces fell to the ground, the Ronin did as well, landing in the crater as he groaned in pain, and watched as the dark fluid seemed to dissipate into the air. He looked and saw the head of Scarab locked into a forever scream over the edge of the crater, and saw it shrink back to its original size, along with the rest of the body parts. It was all over, and the Ronin breathed slowly, feeling a sharp pain in his abdomen as he heard the sound of running.
"Hey, are you okay? I'm here, I'm-" Ryu quickly ran over, allowing his spikes on his carapace to soften and go back down as he reached the crater, only to trip as he reached the edge and to fall on top of the Ronin. The first thing he noticed was that his hands were gripping the Ronin's muscular chest, and that his pectorals seemed to be really taut and soft at the same time. The next thing he noticed was that his lips were pressed against the Ronin's, and a warmness in his mouth as the Ronin looked at him in shock. Ryu could feel his heart beat rapidly as he felt the Ronin's chest and his warm tongue, and slowly but surely the two stared at each other, the Ronin's gaze never leaving his. His mind was aflutter, his thoughts were jumbled as he felt the warmness of the kiss spread to the rest of his body, time seeming to slow down as he kept his mouth pressed to the Ronin's, the latter doing the same. Then just as suddenly, the Ronin blinked, and so did Ryu, and the two looked at each other, both slowly pulling away as a thin trail of saliva emitted from their mouths, and feel away just as quickly. Ryu removed his hands from the Ronin's chest, and silently stood up, offering his hand as the Ronin took it and stood up. "Sorry…. I'm sorry….."
"Not my first time," the Ronin grunted, surprising Ryu as the two climbed out of the crater, the Ronin slipping the broadsword on his back. "You're a pretty good kisser Ryu, for your first time." At this Ryu brushed furiously as he looked at the Ronin, noticing a faint ghost of a smile on his face as he looked at his fellow kaiju.
"Well…. we did it. Scarab's gone now," Ryu sighed in relief after a few minutes. "That power he had…. I think he's with that third faction, especially considering what he said about his master."
"That's nice and all, can someone let me out of the cage now?" The Ronin and Ryu then turned around and saw the moth leaning against the bars of the cage, a tired look in his jade green eyes as he tapped his fingers against the bars. "I mean, I can wait if you two aren't done talking."
"Oh! Sorry…. Leo is it?" Ryu quickly ran over to the caged moth, grabbing his axe and motioned to him to stand back. "We came here to rescue you, Gojo told us everything." With quick motion, Ryu quickly sliced the chains apart before slinging the axe on his back again and the cage fell open, allowing the moth to step out, and stretch some as he looked at Scarab's remains and then at the Ronin, who walked over and looked at him.
"Yes that is my name…. and I'll have to thank Gojo when I get back to Reno City," Leo answered, his wings fluttering outwards as he noticed the wounds on both the Ronin and Ryu. "Didn't know if anyone would come for me, or if anyone could….. cause of this fucking asshole here." Leo walked over to Scarab's head and gave it a quick kick with his grey clawed feet, and watched it bounce away. "Anyway, what are your names? I'd heal you if I could but…. that last bit of magic drained me…. and I can't fly exactly either. Fucking asshole made sure of that." As he said this, Leo folded his wings against his body, the wings almost looking like a cape as he turned around. "Food and rest ought to help though."
"My name is Ryu, and don't worry, we'll get you back to Reno City safely," Ryu answered as he walked over to Leo, and handed him his Bota bag to get a drink. "You can trust the both of us." As he finished, he grabbed Scarab's head by the horn, and quickly stuffed it into a brown fabric bag that he tied to the side of his belt.
"I don't have a name, just something that was lost to me," the Ronin spoke next as he walked over to the both of them, feeling the broadsword on his back and making sure his tachi and wakizashi were safe. "Let's go back now, there's nothing left here." Both the Ronin and Ryu looked as the fires died down in the cave, and making sure Leo was safely between them, headed for the exit, and silently left the cavern together.
In the orange light of the cavern….. there was nothing but a shattered throne and an empty cage.
Reno City.
It seemed to almost be the late afternoon as the Ronin led Ryu and Leo across the light brown desert, looking behind as he saw the mine growing smaller and smaller, before he kept on moving, making sure that the moth and Anguirus could keep up with him. "So," Leo spoke for the first time in a while, looking at Ryu specifically, "you two been traveling together for long? What are you two doing anyway?" The Ronin heard the moth's question, and listened as Ryu began to speak to him.
"We just started traveling together a few days ago actually. Before that we were on our own, and as it turns out, we both were doing the same thing," Ryu replied, making sure to listen just in case there were any Megalon they missed. The Ronin looked down at his body, and could feel his wounds healing, along with his ribs cracking back into place as he groaned in pain. "How much do you know about the war Leo?"
"I know it's currently in a stalemate, and who's on each side," Leo answered, while he seemed to be lost in thought. "You said something about a third faction didn't you? Back in that cave?"
"Yes. I believe there is a third faction out there who are keeping the war going, and he and I are working together to hunt them down. He got quite a few of them already, and then Scarab here was the first one we took down together," Ryu continued as the Ronin listened, hearing how happy he seemed to be. The way Scarab's eyes had been similar to Marius's eyes from the forest was no coincidence, and the fact that the Megalon gang had similar weapons to him and the other two robed kaiju made the connection all the stronger.
"Really? That's interesting….. makes me wonder if I could do anything," Leo muttered to himself, the Ronin drowning out the conversation as he thought about all of the connections between all that he had seen. There was nothing but silence now as the Ronin walked forward, and he touched the broadsword on his back, feeling the handle as a memory came to mind, one that had haunted him for years. It was always the same, a burning village as screams echoed throughout, his father holding his broadsword as he violently cut down any enemy kaiju that came near him or his mother, a fury burning in his eyes as he screamed at her to get him away from the village. Then, King Gaius himself would show up, and as the Ronin would find himself gripping onto a sheathed wakizashi , he would always see someone standing behind the King Ghidorah as he and his father dueled. Always the same, a Kaiju clad in black with glowing red eyes overlooking the devastation, and seemingly staring at the Ronin, a vision he would often see in his nightmares. And after seeing the red eyes of the Ghidorah and the Megalon, and the darkness flowing out of them, the memory seemed to becoming more and more vivid as time went on. The Ronin shut his eyes, and quickly pushed the memory out of his head, as sound returned to him, and he could hear the voices of his companions once again, along with the sounds of wind blowing through the desert. "I guess I'll talk with Gojo when I see him again…. hey is your friend okay?"
"Hey, you okay?" The Ronin heard Ryu's question and stopped, turning around to look at both of his companions, seeing Ryu's golden eyes wide in concern.
"I'm fine….. I'll talk about it later…. C'mon we're almost there." The Ronin turned around once again, and led the two over a sand dune, watching as several desert raptors ran by as they saw the telltale signs of a sandstone city in the distance, along with greenery right next to it as well. As the Ronin led them on, he heard Ryu and Leo speak once more, right as the buildings started to get larger.
"So you and Gojo….. what are you guys exactly to each other? He seemed really scared you'd be hurt." As the city kept on getting larger, the Ronin suddenly noticed a crowd gathering as kaiju suddenly started talking among themselves and a few pointed as the Ronin saw a familiar Gojirasaur moving his way to the front. The bandages were still visible underneath his dark blue shirt and his black pants, however his eyes were filled with relief and joy as he saw the group approaching.
"Well, I'll show you," Leo answered as he ran past both the Ronin and Ryu, and right into Gojo's arms as he embraced the Gojirasaur, the two wrapped into a tight hug. As the Ronin and Ryu stepped into town, everyone's voices suddenly became louder as a crowd surrounded the two, questions being bombarded upon them as the Ronin looked around, and Ryu did as well.
"Did you guys take down Scarab and his gang?!"
"What happened to you?!"
"How many of his gang did you slaughter?!"
"Is Scarab dead?! What did he do to Leo!?" It was this question where Ryu decided to act, especially considering it was a black shelled Megalon speaking, and quickly took Scarab's head out of the sack, and tossed it right in front of the crowd. As it landed with a dull thud, everyone suddenly gasped while Leo continued to hug Gojo, moving his hands close to his face as Gojo did the same, Leo's lower arms keeping the Gojirasaur in a hug as the two slowly drew in, and kissed gently. Ryu noticed this along with the Ronin, and the two walked up to the couple, noticing Rami moving his way through the crowd as well. "Oh thank Hercules!" The black shelled Megalon ran over and picked up the head, gesturing excitedly to another Megalon who had run up, and stared at the head of Scarab. "He called us traitors… attacked his own kid…. Now my husband and I can live peacefully… thank you so much you two." Ryu nodded happily at the Megalon while the Ronin suddenly heard another voice cry out, a very familiar one from earlier.
"Wait a minute?! How do we know you're not with them? How do we know you aren't some sort of cutthroat murderer who was paid to bump off Scarab? Huh!? Tell us right now Gojirasaur!" Everyone was looking at the Rodan as everything suddenly went silent, and the Ronin simply pulled out his tachi a little bit from its sheathe, and touched the blade with his index finger. A small drop of blood fell out, and everyone stayed quiet as they watched it fall to the ground, and the Rodan bowed down his head as he looked at the blood and then the dark stains on Scarab's neck, moving back into the crowd.
"Woah wait! You didn't have to do that," Ryu said as he ran up and looked at the Ronin in concern as the crowd talked quietly among themselves, a few kaiju whispering about the blade while the two Megalon picked up Scarab's head and looked at it.
"I had to make sure he would learn," the Ronin answered as he felt the cut already starting to heal. "Don't be surprised if we run into anyone else like this Ryu." The crowd started to dispense as he said this, quite a few kaiju still talking amongst themselves as they looked at the two with a sense of respect. Even Rami began to leave, tapping the Ronin's shoulder as he prepared to take flight.
"Hey look, don't worry about that cabrón back there, we all believe you," Rami reassured the Ronin, his beak curling into a smile as he looked at the duo. "Besides, you've got quite a blade there, use it well." Rami then took flight, heading to a far-off building as he glided in the sky and left only the Ronin, Ryu, Gojo, and Leo, the latter two now looking at the two warriors.
"Thank you so much," Gojo sniffled, his eyes moist with tears as he kept his right arm around Leo, the moth finishing the apple as he spread his wings out, and breathed in gently as he put his hand on Gojo's chest. "You saved him…. both of you…. and you saved all of us…"
"It's no problem," Ryu answered as he smiled, while the Ronin still stayed serious, looking at the tears in his shirt and feeling the rest of his wounds healing. The sun was starting to get lower, and all of Reno City was soon covered in orange light, lamps being lit within homes as several kaiju finished clearing out a partially collapsed building, and then lit several candles near it as a few of them knelt down. "All we need is some food and supplies and then we'll be out of here tomorrow." Leo looked at the two kaiju, his mind lost in thought as the Ronin looked up at the sky, saying nothing as Gojo suddenly looked at Leo and then at the two, before he spoke to them.
"Hey you can stay at our home tonight. There's an extra room and an extra bathroom in case you two need it," Gojo said, smiling as he held onto Leo and gestured over to where he was walking. "Also you can get some dinner too, and if you want, we can talk some more."
"Sounds good to me," Ryu beamed as he grabbed the Ronin's hand. "It's been a while since I've had a decent meal and a bed, so we'll take that offer Gojo. Thank you very much!"
"Come on you two, you saved my life, so take some time to rest okay? And you tell this big lug here everything that happened," Leo giggled, watching as the two followed him and Gojo, the sun getting lower and lower.
The Ronin and Ryu followed the strange couple, the former trying to remember the last time he had sat down to dinner with other kaiju and slept in a normal bed, while the latter looked at the happy couple in front of them, wondering what would've happened if he had stayed in Reno like the Ronin had told him to.
It was something he did not want to think about.
Gojo's House.
The Ronin looked at the room he was in, feeling the cool tile underneath his feet as he looked at the plain white walls with hooks drilled into them, seeing his harness and other pieces of armor hanging off of two of them. He was now just simply clad in his shirt and pants, the shirt itself not in the best condition, and his wounds fully healed as he looked around more at the room. The window was rectangle shaped and from it he could see the faint orange glow of the sun along with the buildings in the city and the desert wildlands. The Ronin then turned away from the window, and looked at the rest of the room. The tiles were black, and the bed itself was carved out of stone, with the exception of the mattress, sheets, and pillows, and across from the bed was a simple wooden table with a chair, where the rest of Ryu and the Ronin's gear was. Ryu's axe was also hanging on a hook, but from what the Ronin could see, he had not removed his armor yet, instead simply sitting on the side of the bed as the distinct smell of roasted meat hung in the air, along with scents of other cooked food as well. "So…. if you want, I can sleep on the floor, and you can have the bed," Ryu spoke, causing the Ronin to look at him, seeing how his tail drooped over the foot of the bed while the Anguirus kept his hands on his knees, looking up at the Gojirasaur.
"No, you don't have to do that Ryu," the Ronin answered, noticing the other kaiju's surprise as he said this. "I could share the bed with you, if that's okay." At this Ryu blushed, and the Ronin looked at him in surprise, watching the kaiju twiddle his thumbs together.
"That's uh…. fine with me," Ryu gulped as he looked down at his hands, the warm feeling still present on his lips and within his chest. "So…. uh….. that sword, Cain's sword, you want to talk about it?" The Ronin looked at Ryu, breathing in and out, but before he could answer, the simple wooden door suddenly slid open.
"Hey you two," Leo said, his voice sounding a bit happier than before as he leaned against the doorframe. "Dinner's ready, so come on now. Or if you still need some time Gojo and I could wait." Ryu got up, and the Ronin moved too, both of them following the moth as he led them through the hallway, which ended in a large room with a stone table and several chairs in the middle of it, and a kitchen right next to it, along with another two sliding doors that led to the bathrooms, along with a central den with several chairs and couches and a smaller table, and finally a door to the outside where everyone had entered from. The entire house was lit with glowstones, ones that would stop glowing as soon as they were touched, something that was often rare in most kaiju's dwellings. The Ronin and Ryu watched as Leo went behind a chair and pulled it out, and then to another one, the both of them following his lead and sitting down. Leo then walked into the kitchen, while the Ronin and Ryu looked down at their plates, which were square shaped and black and the shiny metal forks, knives and spoons, the both of them then looking at their cups, and seeing the cool clear water within. Then suddenly right in front of them, a whole roasted desert raptor was dropped down on a massive platter, still sizzling as juices leaked down the crisply skin which was covered in various spices, and a pleasant smell wafted from it. Gojo and Leo then set down bowls and plates of side dishes, ranging from plain steaming white rice to roasted mixed vegetables along with a few slices of watermelon, and noodles that were brown in color, no doubt mixed with brown sauce of some kind. Finally, there was a small bowl of chili sauce, and from the eager look on Leo's face, something that he had prepared himself. "Do the honors you big lug?"
"Sure thing darling, so what would you two like? Breast? Thighs and Legs?" Ryu and Gojo were sitting at the ends of the table while Leo was sat next to Gojo's left and the Ronin to Ryu's left.
"Breast please," the Ronin stammered, watching as Gojo cut into the raptor, and then reached out to serve himself with a little of everything, holding out his plate as the breast of the raptor plopped down on it. "Thank you."
"I'll take a thigh and leg," Ryu chirped, his plate piled high with sides, eagerly accepting the thigh and leg as Leo took the other thigh and leg for himself and Gojo took the other breast, the group now eating as the Ronin sprinkled some chili sauce on his meat, while Ryu combined his noodles and veggies into a mix as he ate the leg.
"You seem to be doing better Gojo," the Ronin observed, seeing that the bandages were gone. "How'd you get your regeneration to speed up?"
"Oh that was all Leo," Gojo answered as he slurped up some noodles, watching the moth daintily take a bite of his melon. "He's very skilled in magic, although I think you two saw that in the cavern from what he said."
"It's true," Ryu nearly spat excitedly. "So he can heal others? He said something like that in the cavern. How do you do it Leo?!"
"Well, it's quite simple," Leo answered as he slurped up some noodles and dipped his raptor into some chili sauce, his wings folded once again to sit comfortably in the chair. "What I usually do, if I have enough mana, is that I channel the energy into my hands, and I place it over the wounds on one's body and then I have the mana flow into the body of the wounded one, which in turn lets them heal from most wounds. To be honest, I still think I need to learn more, because there is so much more that I could do." Leo sighed at this, and Gojo grabbed his hand as the Ronin ate more of his food, and Ryu did as well, the latter thinking of another topic to bring up.
"So, how did you two meet?" Ryu's question got both the other Gojirasaur and Leo's attention, while the Ronin listened in, wondering what their story would be.
"Well, since you asked, we'll tell you," Gojo answered as he looked at Leo, who nodded back at him while he finished off his thigh, the Ronin in the meantime slurping up the rest of his noodles. "To start at the beginning…. I once was a member of the Grand Alliance, or rather my parents were…. After they passed away, it was expected of me to take their place, but….. Living up to their legacy was something that I found impossible to do…. and then with the stalemate going on…. I couldn't handle it anymore, so I declared neutrality and came down here. I don't think this war is worth it anymore honestly….."
"Me neither," the Ronin muttered, finishing up his meal as he looked at Gojo again, wondering how old he was when he lost his parents.
"At first it was odd, seeing all sorts of kaiju living together peacefully…. But it honestly started to feel like a home, and so, I stayed here….. doing my best to help keep Reno up and running, and to make sure the oasis was taken care of. I defended the town when it came to it, but other than that, it was peaceful here," Gojo reminisced, right as Ryu finished the rest of his meal along with Leo, the latter now holding hands with Gojo. "One day….. he flew into town…. And well…. it's his turn to tell you."
"I'm curious Leo…. What did you do before all of this?" Leo looked at Ryu, and then stayed silent for a few seconds before he started to speak.
"I don't feel comfortable talking about my past, but I will tell you what I did. I spent years wandering Pangea, trying to find out more about myself and Pangea as well." As Leo said this, he reached into his loincloth, and took out a rose from within the folds of it, looking at it as he continued to talk. "I spent those years trying to further my magic, trying to understand our connection to the planet and the Guardian Beasts, and in doing so taught myself some basic spells and abilities, along with learning how to defend myself if it came to that. It was all thanks to this." At this he gestured to the rose, causing the Ronin and Ryu to stare at it in confusion. "I felt as if this rose was speaking to me, and if anything, it guided me throughout my time wandering, helping me learn about my inner magic."
"So wait, the rose can talk?" Ryu asked this as he looked at the rose, seeing its bright red petals and wondering how it could stay alive for so long. "Or what? Sorry I'm a bit confused."
"It's hard to explain, but yes, you could say the rose talked to me. Anyway…. I wandered for a long time, and then one day I got into a really bad fight with several kaiju. The way they fought…. I barely survived…. and I was able to wander here before I collapsed. I would've died…. If Gojo hadn't seen me…. He saved my life…. nursed me back to health… and helped me recover fully. And over time….. we fell in love…. And since then I've lived here with Gojo, still training to improve my skills…. And then Scarab and his goons got me, and now here we are." As Leo finished talking, Gojo finished his meal, and continued to hold his hand as the two of them looked at Ryu and the Ronin, both looking intently at the two of them.
"Thank you so much you two," Gojo beamed, causing Ryu to feel warm inside as he saw how happy both Gojo and Leo looked. The Ronin looked at the couple as well, and nodded at them, a similar warm feeling in his chest forming as well. "Well, if you're done eating now, second bathroom's right over there, so you two can go and wash up. Don't worry about the plates, Leo and I will handle that." As Gojo said that, the Ronin and Ryu had already taken their plates to the kitchen, and then the two looked at the couple, who were gathering the rest of the plates and any leftover food.
"Oh hey," Leo addressed the Ronin as he and Ryu started to head for the bathroom. "I can fix your shirt tonight. It'll be as good as new tomorrow morning. You want me to do that?" The Ronin looked at Leo and Gojo, and then back at Ryu, and with one quick motion, took off his shirt, and handed it to Leo. The Ronin was very well built, his huge chest, muscular arms, and chubby six pack making Ryu blush furiously as he looked at him, and causing the Anguirus to quickly excuse himself to the bathroom.
"He's so big…. That chest, those muscles," Ryu thought to himself, as he looked at the bathroom, and quietly began to strip off his armor, setting it on a bench next to the door. The bathroom was a 4x4 room with dark tiles on the floor and plain white walls, these ones having decorations of flowers on them. There were two windows, rectangle shaped like the rest of the windows in the house, and they were covered by curtains, no doubt to stop any voyeurs from staring in to the private room. The bathroom was illuminated by a faint blue glow from several glowstones in the ground, along with the first of the moonlight breaking through the cracks in the windows. The water closet was in the top right corner, hidden by a wooden sliding door, and right in the middle of the room was a basin made out of smoothly carved rock and metal, big enough for two kaiju to go into and bathe. Ryu removed his shirt next, followed by his simple pair of shorts and stepped down into the tub, noticing a small pipe and two knobs, one red, one blue, and turned them on at the same time. As water from the oasis flowed into the basin and heated rocks warmed the water, Ryu sighed in happiness as he let the warm water flow in, and as soon as it filled up, shut off the pipe, and let it soak into his scales, closing his eyes as he thought about the day that had just occurred. "I'm doing it, I'm actually doing it…. I'm gonna end this war…." As he lay there, Ryu heard the door slide open and then slide shut, and someone walk into the bathroom. Opening his eyes, Ryu watched as the Ronin removed his pants, and put them on another bench, before stepping into the basin, and start picking up water with his hands and clean himself. Ryu blushed again as he stared at the Ronin's naked body, noticing his shapely muscular thighs and his posterior, and then looked at his own body, noticing how slightly more muscular the Ronin was compared to him. The Ronin looked at Ryu as he glanced at his body, saying nothing but letting him stare at it, as the two silently bathed. After a while, Ryu was cleaned and excused himself from the basin, and quickly got dressed once again, taking his armor with him as he left the Ronin in the bathroom to finish washing up. As Ryu entered back in the bedroom, making sure to hang up his armor as well, he sat on the bed and laid down, closing his eyes as he waited for the Ronin to come in.
"I'm here Ryu," the Ronin whispered softly as he slid the door open, and saw Ryu lying on the bed, causing the Anguirus to suddenly wake up and look at the shirtless Gojirasaur, who slid the door shut and gently sat next to the other kaiju, and briefly groaned in pain as he rubbed his shoulder, and then his foot, before moving fully onto the bed and sitting across from Ryu. "You want to talk with me?" Ryu looked at the Ronin, and nodded gently, causing the fellow warrior to gently shut off the glowstones, and let the moonlight illuminate the room. "I'm sorry about earlier today… I just want to say thank you for coming…."
"Oh. It's no problem," Ryu answered, breathing in and out as he looked at the Ronin's tired expression. "We're companions right? We always watch each other's backs. That's how it always goes."
"I… guess…." Ryu could see the Ronin rubbing parts of his body, and his face contorted in pain as he kept rubbing. "I'm still a bit sore from the battle…. And from walking all this time…. so I'm sorry if this disturbs you."
"I could massage you if you want," Ryu answered, blushing a bit as he saw the shirtless Gojirasaur look at him with interest, while the Anguirus crawled closer to him his breathing becoming a bit heavier as he looked up at the Ronin. "If that's okay with you."
"Sure. Go ahead Ryu," the Ronin answered, noticing the Anguirus blushing a bit more as he said this. "In the meantime we can keep talking. Anything you want to know?" Ryu placed his hands on one of the Ronin's feet and began to rub gently, making the Ronin sigh and feel the pain start to go away while the Anguirus rubbed him.
"Is it okay if I ask you this? Are you…. part of the Hazuki clan?" The Ronin looked at Ryu, seeing the innocent pleading look in his eyes as he continued to rub his foot, and closed his eyes and sighed. Ryu looked away, until he suddenly heard the Ronin clear his throat and look down at him, a look of trust in his eyes.
"….. I am Ryu…. Or…. I was…." The Ronin could feel a small weight lifted off his chest as he said this, and saw Ryu's small shock at this. The Anguirus finished rubbing his foot, and then moved onto the other one, while the Ronin continued on. "When I said that sword was my birthright….. I meant it….. it's one of the only things left I have of my entire clan…. And my parents." Ryu rubbed the other foot, and then stopped, letting the Ronin sigh as he sat back, and looked up at the ceiling of the bedroom.
"… I was 12 years old when I heard about the massacre," Ryu replied, moving up closer to the Ronin as the latter looked at him, "I wondered who could be so cruel and evil to do that…. and my grandfather told me it was King Gaius…."
"It wasn't just him," the Ronin sighed, looking at Ryu as he moved his hand to the Angurius's shoulder, and touched his shirt. "There was someone else there….. a kaiju in black….. watching over everything….. Since that day….. I've done nothing but think about them…. wondering who they were…. And why they killed my…. Killed my….."
"Your parents….. they were Cain and Lilith Hazuki weren't they?" Ryu could see how distressed the Ronin looked, and grabbed his hand, holding it in his own. "I won't tell anyone, I swear to you I won't tell anyone."
"Thank you…. Ryu…. Since that day…. I've wanted to find the kaiju in the black…. And for years…. I wandered Pangea… cutting myself off from my past to try and find them, and avenge my parents and my clan… but I've not grown closer to finding the kaiju in the black…. Not until I started finding the cult members." Ryu listened intently, still holding onto the Ronin's hand, as the image of a kaiju in a black robe came into his mind, with glowing red eyes. "Then I met you…. and I think…. I think it's safe to say that we have the same goal…. But for different reasons….. there's something I want to tell you Ryu."
"Go right ahead," Ryu answered as he let the Ronin's hand go, seeing how nervous the Ronin seemed to be. "You can trust me."
"My name is….." The Ronin stopped for a few seconds, and collected his emotions as he looked deep within his memories, trying to remember his name. "I am…. Akira….. Hazuki….. my name is… Akira Hazuki."
"Akira….. it means bright doesn't it? It's a nice name," Ryu said, while the Ronin…. Akira…. looked at him, the shock of telling his name to someone else still present in his face. "Your parents loved you so much….. I wish I could've met mine…." Akira saw the Anguirus grow sad just a little as he said this, and he placed both of his hands on his shoulders, and had him look up at him.
"….. Thank you again Ryu….. From now on, we're gonna stick together…. And you can call me Akira when it's just you and me….. any other time call me Hazuki… unless we somehow get new allies. Is that okay with you?"
"It's fine with me…. Akira. I…. Thank you for trusting me," Ryu answered as he looked into Akira's eyes, a few tears in his own eyes. "You don't have to tell me anymore tonight…. And thank you for believing me…. Tomorrow…. let's go and continue our mission…. And maybe one day I'll tell you more about myself."
"You're welcome. Sure thing…. partner….. Goodnight Ryu…." As Akira said this, he laid on his side, and watched as Ryu did as well, the two facing each other as he felt his eyelids grow heavy.
"Goodnight Akira….. see you tomorrow." Ryu too felt his eyelids grow heavy, and soon the two has fallen fast asleep, the two kaiju close to each other in the moonlight.
Outside of their room, Leo stood there, a candle in his hand as he realized the two had fallen asleep, and then walked down quietly to his and Gojo's bedroom, sliding the door open as he thought about what he had heard. As he walked into the bedroom, he blew out the candle and detached his small blade, putting both on table as he walked over to a closet, and opened it, removing his loincloth and hanging it next to a set of black, purple and gold armor, which was neatly put away. As he turned back to his bed, he could see Gojo there, waiting for him as he sat there. "Hey there you big lug. You ready yet?"
"Not yet Leo," Gojo answered as Leo walked over and got into bed with him, moving the sheets over their naked bodies, "I think there's something on your mind, you wanna talk about it?"
"Oh. Sure honey," Leo responded as he took Gojo's hand in his own, and looked at him. "Gojo…. You know what I'm thinking about don't you?"
"I do my love," Gojo responded, smiling sadly as he looked at Leo, "You want to join them don't you? Join them in their mission?"
"…. I want to join them Gojo," Leo answered, rubbing his lover's hand as Gojo looked at him in understanding. "While I was in that cage…. I sensed something dark lurking within Scarab and the other Megalon…. the same darkness I sensed in those kaiju right before we met. Gojo….. I think I have to do this…. because this darkness might consume us all of it continues to go unchecked. And…. I can't lose you either Gojo…." Leo sighed, looking down at his lower arms as they seemed to cross in sadness.
"…. I understand honey," Gojo answered, kissing Leo on his cheek, "They saved your life…. so I think you'll be okay with them."
"What about you Gojo? What are you gonna do?" Leo's antennae drooped as he hugged his lover, and felt the Gojirasaur's heartbeat. "Are you gonna stay here?"
"I will Leo. Someone has to stay here and defend this city," Gojo reassured the moth, touching his face as he looked at him. "And…. I have something for you…. and a question I'd like to ask you…." Leo's heart began to beat and his wings flared up as Gojo reached over to a small table next to their bed and grabbed a small wooden box, and opened it up. Inside the box were two necklaces, both being made up of big silver circle with a sigil on them, and two smaller ones on the circle. Leo picked up the necklace with the smaller band, and looked at it, touching the symbol gently. "I know… I know how much this means to you… even though they may have treated you so terribly, but I hope it can be a way for us to stay connected no matter where we are on Pangea. When this is all over Leo….. will you marry me?" Leo blushed and looked at the necklace, feeling the symbol some more as he looked up at his lover.
"Yes…. I will Gojo! I promise you… when this is all over I will marry you….. Thank you for everything my love," Leo replied happily, leaning in as he hugged Gojo and kissed him on the lips, the Gojirasaur doing the same with Leo's mouth as the moth got on top of him. "I promise you… I'm going to return home Gojo, and I will have fully mastered everything that I can about myself…. I'm going to prove them wrong…. I'm not cursed…." Gojo hugged his lover, and let him slip further under the covers as they kissed once again.
"I love you Leo….."
"I love you too Gojo…."
Reno City was finally peaceful that night.
Reno City: Departure.
The stars were twinkling in the dark blue night sky, something Akira noticed as he and his father sat under them, right next to the shimmering waters of Lake Tanaka. The young Gojirasaur was clad in his plain black shirt and his black pants, while his father was wearing a black shirt with gold trim and black pants, and in Akira's view, looked like an older version of himself, aside from the scar that ran over his right eye. Finally, after what seemed like a while, his father turned to him and gently placed his hand on the left of Akira's chest, causing the young Gojirasaur to look at him in surprise. "My son…. my only one…. is there something troubling you?"
"Oto-san…. What's gonna happen when I am grown up? I can't stop thinking about it," the young Gojirasaur sniffled… rubbing his eyes with his fist as his father listened. "I'm scared… no one likes me other than you and Oka-san and Rin…."
"Son… Akira… I want you to listen to me," his father spoke gently as he moved his other arm to the young Gojirasaur's back, and pulled him into a small hug. "I know you're scared my son, but don't worry. One day, you'll find more friends, one day, you'll be happier, and one day, your mother and I will be proud to see you grow into the fine young kaiju we know you can be." Akira was starting to cry now as his father hugged him tighter, and he continued to listen. "You… when you were born…. Your mother and I were so happy…. I only wish you could've met your brothers and sister…. I know they would've taken care of you." Akira pulled in closer to his father, listening to his heartbeat as the older Gojirasaur hugged his son. "Our miracle child…. there's something I want to teach you my son…. a phrase that my father taught me and his father taught him. It will help you my boy….. because while it is okay to be scared….. you must always remember to think while you are scared. Repeat after me Akira….. I must not fear, fear is the mind killer."
"I must not fear, fear is the mind killer," Akira said, his sniffles starting to dissipate as he listened to his father say it once again. "I must not fear, fear is the mind killer. I must not fear, fear is the mind killer. Oto-san….. I love you….."
"I love you too my son," his father said, pointing right at the young kaiju's chest as they broke away from the hug. "No matter what happens, your mother and I will always be with you…. within your heart…"
Akira woke up, feeling the hand on his chest, and for a brief moment, his mind raced wildly as he looked at the kaiju doing so. Ryu was still asleep, snoring gently as he kept his arm on Akira's chest, the latter then fully waking up as he looked at the hand, and then thought of the memory he had seen. "…. It was just… a dream….." He then became aware that liquid was running down his face, and he moved his hand up, feeling the tears falling as he heard Ryu stirring, and realized something. "….. First time in years…" As a few more tears fell, Ryu woke up, yawning as he then noticed Akira's face, and the morning sun shining down on him.
"Hey… you just woke up? What's wrong? Are you okay?" Ryu looked at Akira, pulling his hand away from his chest as he moved up, and sat up, watching as the Gojirasaur got up to, and moved over to sit on the edge of the bed, his tears still falling as he sat there.
"… I'm fine… I'm fine Ryu…." Akira felt the rest of his tears fall to the ground, and turned around, rubbing his eyes as he dried off the rest of his tears. "We should get going now." Ryu nodded, and Akira got out of the bed, sliding open the door as he found something lying on the other side of it. It was his shirt, neatly folded and looking brand new, something that filled his heart with warmness as he picked it up, and put it back on, feeling the areas where Leo had repaired it. Behind him, Ryu too had gotten up and was in the process of putting his armor back on, before slinging his axe on his back, and looking at Akira.
"Hey… Akira. I'll leave you alone if you need time to get your stuff," Ryu said, putting his hand on the Gojirasaur's shoulder. "Then we get some breakfast, and then we take off?"
"Thanks Ryu. Yes… we need to eat and then we'll go once we get our supplies," Akira answered, staying behind in the bedroom as Ryu left it. "Thanks…. For listening last night…."
"You're welcome," Ryu grinned. Akira nodded in acknowledgment, and watched Ryu walk down the hallway, before he slid the door shut and began to gather up his belongings. As soon he had them, along with his swords and armor, Akira made the bed as nicely as he could and walked out of the room, sliding the door shut as he left. The Gojirasaur walked down the hallway touching the walls as he went into the dining room and saw Ryu there, who handed him two apples, the Anguirus finishing off his as Akira took them and started to eat, biting into their juicy flesh as he noticed Gojo and Leo waiting for them at the door. Ryu and Akira, the latter quickly finishing off his apples, walked to the door as Gojo and Leo opened it up for them, all four kaiju leaving the house as the morning sun shone down on Reno city, and several citizens walked up to the kaiju, thanking them profusely once again and giving them supplies, along with plenty of water. "Oh! Thank you all….."
"No, thank you," a Zilla said, making sure that Akira's Bota Bag was full of water. "We're all going to be fine now…. you two need to be properly stocked for your journey after all. Consider all of this a gift."
"Hey, you two have a minute?" Gojo's question got both Akira and Ryu's attention as they walked through the city, Akira pointing north when Ryu looked at him and asked where he was planning on heading next. "Leo wants to talk with you." As Gojo said this, Leo walked up to the two of the, both Ryu and Akira noticing he had a pack slung on his shoulder, along with his blade being holstered on his left hip.
"I want to join you two on your journey," Leo spoke, calmly thinking about each word as he could see the two kaiju looking at him. "You saved my life back in the cavern, and you reunited me with Gojo. For that, I can't thank you two enough, and there's no better way to repay you than to help you in your quest. I also hope to increase my skills, both magical and physical, with you two, and support you with them….. I'll understand if you two don't want me to join you…. so I'll leave it up to you." Ryu and Akira looked at each other, the Gojirasaur looking back at the other Gojirasaur and the moth, and weighed his options, thinking about the fight with Scarab and how Ryu had saved him…. and how Leo saved the both of them after.
"….. I am fine with you….. joining us," Akira quietly addressed Leo, looking at Ryu as he said this. "But you know if you do…. that it will be dangerous? That creatures like Scarab are still out there…. along with this third faction? Are you okay with this Leo?"
"Leo…. I think that you will help us greatly," Ryu spoke after Akira, "But like my friend said…. Are you prepared for anything?"
"I am," Leo answered, standing tall before the two kaiju as his wings flared out fully. "I promise you two…. I will help end this war…." With that, both Akira and Ryu nodded, and stepped away as Gojo and Leo hugged once more, the two kissing as they whispered something to each other, and Leo parted from him.
"Have a safe journey everyone," Gojo said as everyone in Reno City waved goodbye to the trio, a small tear falling from his eye. "And be careful….. my love….." As the trio got to the outskirts of Reno City, Akira looked at Leo and then at Ryu, the Anguirus looking at the Gojirasaur with the utmost trust, and a bright smile on his face.
"So," Leo spoke, taking flight as he did and making sure to hover right above the two kaiju as Akira looked around the desert, trying to get a good sense of where he wanted to go. "Where are we heading?"
"North," Akira answered as he gestured to both Leo and Ryu. "Something tells me there's something up there. Are you two ready? This will take some time."
"Lead the way Hazuki," Ryu exclaimed, smiling at his two companions still. Akira nodded as Leo did too, and the trio went off north, walking or flying across the sand as they left Reno City behind.
On top of a tower, Rami sat there, looking at the trio all the way across the desert with his far-seeing eyes, and muttered under his breath. "Hmmmm….. you two took out a mutant Megalon huh? And now you have a moth joining you? Maybe you are worth tailing after all." With that, Rami put on the rest of his gear, and took flight high into the sky, making sure to tail the trio from above.
Reno City would never be attacked again.
The Cave of the Ancients.
Pangea was a continent of many mysteries and strange landmarks, such as a particularly tall mountain where it was said that Methuselah, who was as old as the Earth itself, lived and dwelled. Another would be a skull shaped rock that was near the end of the continent and the known world, and beneath the rock a cave which was said to be a place where one could enter the past, learning about the history of their world. Of course, there was no way to prove this was real, as not many kaiju had gone down there, and those who did would often return with no memory of what they saw, as if something had wiped their memories to prevent them from finding something they shouldn't have. Regardless, it was not the only cave in Pangea said to have a strange presence in the world, for there was one more cave, one that most said could not be found through normal means. It was called the Cave of the Ancients, and rumors persisted of a strange cult which dwelled in it, but there was never enough evidence to find the cave. It was something which Lord Hedorah made sure would never happen, unless of course it would be a potential recruit. The cave itself was large and voluminous, almost like the maw of some ancient creature with stalactites high above on the roof, and a simple dirt covered floor where many kaiju in dark robes were knelt in prayer in front of an altar. Further in the cave, there was a raised rock platform with a small pathway that led up to it from the back, and on top of it, six pillars with torches burning with black flames, surrounding a circular pit that seemed to go deep into the earth, the bottom filled with bubbling black and purple liquid. Hedorah stood near the edge of the pit, clutching his head with his free hand as he nearly fell back. "Scarab…. There's no way he could've fallen…."
Hedorah. Do you remember what I told you when Marius fell in battle against the ronin? With Scarab's death he has proven to be a bigger threat to all we have built up.
"He takes priority," grunted Hedorah, his head pulsing with pain as the voice of the Anti-God echoed throughout. "But how could one Ronin…. It doesn't make sense…. Unless…."
Perhaps you have forgotten who it was who gave you the power you sought Hedorah, if your hesitance prevents you from doing what needs to be done. Shall I remind you?
Hedorah suddenly could feel something within his body pulling at him, like a hand reaching out and trying to tear him apart from the inside, and the kaiju writhed on the ground as he felt his breath leave, his red eyes glowing as he tried to gurgle out words. "No…. Master….. I understand …" Hedorah was suddenly released, and he coughed just a bit as he used his staff to help himself stand again, and the Anti-God spoke again.
Very well. You know what to do Hedorah….
"Yes…. my master," Hedorah replied, leaning against his staff as he felt the Anti-God leave him once again, and he started down into the pit as the sounds of shuffling footsteps came behind him.
"Lord Hedorah," slobbered a strange looking Gojirasaur, who limped towards the robed kaiju. The Gojirasaur had strange discolored grey scales, and with it, a slightly thin figure that made it seem as if he was emaciated. His claws were dirty almost, and out of his mouth, which had a large overbite with jagged crooked fangs, dribbled a black thick fluid as the Gojirasaur stood there. His eyes were slightly off to the sides, making him appeared wall-eyed, and he was clad in rusted Gojirasaur armor, with various weapons holstered to armor, making him appear like a strange madman or perhaps a revenant from long ago. "Are you….. okay?" His voice almost echoed unnaturally, and as Hedorah continued to stare into the pit, the Gojirasaur came closer and closer. "What is…. wrong?"
"Nothing Charade," Hedorah grunted, not even looking at the Gojirasaur as he regained his stamina, and looked deeper into the pit. "Only that I need to deal with a pest… so don't bother me right now."
"Oh yes master! I'll…. leave," Charade drooled, moving back as Hedorah stood tall, and the dark flames started to flare as he held his staff across the pit, and it started to glow brightly. The kaiju in robes stood up, all staring up at the platform silently. The flames grew bigger and then shot up to the roof, before coming back down and flowing into his staff, which glowed with a purple light as Hedorah spoke again, his voice booming throughout the cave. Across Pangea, other followers stopped what they were doing, hearing his voice in their minds.
"Hear me one and all! Our time of glory is coming soon, but there is a threat to us, a threat to which we stand for! Two of our brothers have fallen in battle at the hands of a ronin, a Gojirasaur ronin clad in black and gold! He and anyone associated with him have proven to be the threat that our lord and savior has feared would rise up in opposition to us! Should you spot him and his allies, whether you be a normal brother or sister or an Acolyte, destroy him on sight! Prove your loyalty to our lord, and allow his glory to rise up once again in Pangea! THIS IS MY COMMAND!" As Hedorah's voice died down, he could hear the excited shouts in the cave, along with Charade waving two of his weapons up in the air, something which he ignored as he pointed his staff at the pit, firing the dark flames into the bubbling liquid, closing his eyes as he poured his dark energy into it. "…Rise my sons… Rise from my pollution… Rise my strong ones…" Several shapes then shot up from the liquid and landed right in front of Hedorah as he pulled his staff away, and soon formed into what appeared to be skeletons of kaiju, made out of the liquid from the pit as the gaps around the bones suddenly were filled with a red glow and the dark liquid formed around them, transforming them into strange humanoid blobs with Hedorah's eyes and glowing bones, silently bowing before the being who had created them. "My sons…. My beautiful Pollution Monsters….. find the ronin….. and find me subjects…." The creatures then slithered off, climbing down the platform as the other robed kaiju parted and let them leave the cave, while Hedorah spoke to himself once again, the events of the day making him think of something.
"So…. the last Hazuki…. Let's see how strong you really are."
