3x22 – Part 2

He got up from his crouching position next to Elena, slowly backing away with a satisfied smirk on his face. Soon he would have all the doppelganger blood he would need to complete his army. Elena laid slumped back into the chair he tied her to. Her breathing labored but she would recover.

He had already collected four liters of blood. That would be sufficient for a time. At least a year or so. He needed to get out of this one-horse town as soon as possible. If he stayed here, he was in real danger of falling for a baby vampire who still had her humanity. Hell, from what Stefan had told him, she might place more value on humanity as a vampire than she ever did as a human. In his long life, he had never encountered a woman like her. Which made her dangerous. If he left now, there was a chance that the intrigue of pursuing her would pass and his feelings would fade away.

And maybe one day, she would be ready for him to show her the world.

In the meantime, he could not let her distract him from his plans. He knew what game she was playing with her little friends. The beauty distracting the beast. He couldn't help but play into the game. Because after awhile it stopped being a game. And he believed it was the same for her.

Like she forgot she was playing a part. Her authenticity couldn't be held back no matter how hard she tried. She was truly herself with him. It really started at his mother's ball. And every time he had seen her since her little act was dropped earlier and earlier as they spent time together.

She was fighting her attraction. If Klaus was being objective he knew why. Tyler, Elena, Jenna's death and probably every other life taken at his hands. He was a monster. Klaus was truly the villain in their fairytale.

And her loyalty to Tyler was something he desperately craved. Maybe 17-year-old human Caroline and Tyler would have been perfect in this small town. But he knew he was right; she would eventually need more. And Tyler wouldn't give it to her. He saw Caroline's devotion to Tyler but wondered if his hybrid would go to the same lengths.

He frequently had to remind himself just how young Caroline was. This was her first love. It would be fleeting but would be the hardest to shake. His thoughts briefly wandered to Tatia and his misguided feelings for the manipulative bitch. And just like Tatia had broken his young and inexperienced heart, Tyler would do the same to Caroline.

Klaus came to Mystic Falls for two reasons, to become a hybrid and create more of his kind. With the doppelganger blood he would be free of this place. He could continue his hunt for werewolf packs and break their curses for them, by making them hybrids. He would have his very own pack.

He checked his phone for his witch contact in Louisiana, she had been following a large pack outside New Orleans. Maybe that would be a good start. He shot off a text to her hoping that she would have a worth while update. He wandered to his office to check his latest tracking documents. Since getting back to Mystic Falls, he had not been as focused on tracking werewolf packs as he should have been.

Nearly 20 minutes later, he heard two voices in the other room. The Salvatores had come to save the Elena. How quaint. He casually strolled back in the room, sporting his trademark smirk. Stefan was slowly pulling Elena up from the chair and Damon turned to glare at Klaus.

"Gentlemen," Klaus sneered at the two.

"Hybrid Ken. Sorry to interrupt your moving party. We'll just be leaving," Damon snarked at Klaus. Damon crouched slightly in a defensive posture to defend Elena and Stefan.

Klaus rushed past Damon. Going straight for Stefan and Elena. He held Stefan in a choke hold against the wall. Elena was sent to the ground hitting her head with a resounding smack.

Suddenly Damon was behind him with his hand protruding into his back, going for Klaus' heart. Klaus let go of Stefan and turned to throw Damon off him. Then Stefan was able to secure a hold on Klaus. Damon slammed his fist into Klaus' chest and grabbed a hold of his heart.

Klaus could feel the life draining from his body. He lifted his hand to try and pull Damon away from him. But his body fought him. He was weak and his hand was turning gray.

They were desiccating him.

Caroline quickly pulled up to the Mikaelson Mansion. Parking in the middle of the driveway. She rushed into the house finding Rebekah and Elijah in the middle of an argument.

As she entered, the two siblings stopped yelling at each other long enough to turn to face her.

"Where's Klaus?" Caroline asked as she slowly approached them.

"Why don't you ask your wretched friends? Or have you come to play your little game on us. Pretty blonde distraction?" Rebekah retorted; her voice thick as if she had been crying.

"Seriously? Rebekah, you know your brother is obsessed with me. He would pick up my calls or respond to my texts. Where is he? Why is he not answering?" Caroline exclaimed.

"Rebekah" Elijah warned as he stopped his sister from approaching Caroline. "Ms. Forbes, it's nice to formally meet you. Even though I wish it was under better circumstances. I assume you haven't spoken to your friends today."

Caroline nodded. Something was wrong. What had she missed?

"Evil Alaric went to the council, and they know everything. They will be hunting me, and Alaric will use them to help bring down all the Originals. Where is Klaus? He is the only one strong enough to bring down Alaric. Where is he?"

"Your friends desiccated him!" Rebekah screamed at her.

"What? How?" Caroline answer shocked.

"Seems that your friend Bonnie was able to use the spell her mother used on my father. They have desiccated Niklaus and are in possession of his body" Elijah explained.

"We have to get him back," Caroline mumbled.

"I have made a deal with Elena. They will hand over his body and I will not revive him for at least two centuries. We must honor our agreement." Elijah stated with resignation. Rebekah turned her glare to her older brother.

"An agreement you made without my knowledge or approval. I am not beholden to your agreement or your self-righteous honor," Rebekah seethed at her brother.

"We can't!" Caroline emphasized. "We need him to take down Evil Alaric and to deal with the council. I'll deal with my friends. We need to go get him immediately. Alaric will not be far behind us. If he finds Klaus like that, he will kill him. Then Tyler is dead and there's a chance that I will be too. Screw your agreement. We go now."

Elijah began to pace obviously considering her argument. But unsure of the right course of action.

"Where is my brother?" Rebekah demanded.

"I don't know." Caroline said honestly. "But I can find out. First, I need you both to promise me, that my friends will come to no harm for desiccating Klaus. And to stop him from seeking revenge once he has been revived."

"Deal." Rebekah spat.

"How do you expect us to be able to control Klaus once he is revived?" Elijah asked.

"Just give me the chance to talk to him." Caroline said quietly. "I might be able to steer him away from revenge. If not, hide my friends from him. You ran from your brother for centuries, certainly you'll be able to help my friends do the same."

Elijah inclined his head at her words. Obviously interested in what sway this woman had over his brother.

"We have a deal." Elijah agreed.

She nodded her head slowly. She grabbed her phone out of her pocket and called Bonnie.

"Hi Care! I can't really talk right now," Bonnie answered.

"Bon! Don't you dare hang up! What the hell is going on? You all desiccated Klaus and no one told me" She exclaimed.

"Tell vampire barbie to relax, she wasn't relevant to this plan," Damon jeered in the background.

"Bon please tell me where you are. Evil Alaric told the council everything about all of us to the counsel to find Klaus. You are in danger. Please tell me exactly where you are. My mom can send some of her trusted deputies to protect you." Caroline pleaded.

Bonnie hesitated and she could hear Damon arguing against it in the background.

"Fine. I'll share my location with you and your mom. But Care stay out of this Alaric won't hesitate to kill you too." Bonnie agreed and hung up the phone.

Then a notification popped up on Caroline's phone.

"I have the location," she said aloud.

Caroline let out a breath. A plan had been forming in her mind. The one thing Alaric was afraid of was Elena dying and ending his own life. They needed Elena as leverage, but Caroline could not risk her friend. They would need all the original strength available and a distraction for Alaric. If the distraction routine worked on Klaus maybe it would on Evil Alaric.

"We're going to need help. Call your brother Kol." Caroline demanded.

She pulled out her phone and dialed the one person she hoped never to see again. Katherine.
