Day 2: Warmth
Kagome grit her teeth, cursing herself in her mind. It was so cold in the small meadow they were staying in, despite it being tucked away in a nice spot next to a tall hill.
The miko curled tighter on herself in her sleeping bag, trying to will herself to sleep/ They hadn't expected the sudden cold - well, Inuyasha had warned them, but they hadn't listened. And to think that Sango, Miroku and Shippou were probably fast asleep in the village they had protected from a youkai this afternoon. Kagome and Inuyasha should be with them, in the warm indoors, but Kagome had sensed a shard and had demanded they go after it because the next she wanted to go home for a while.
Well, it wasn't her fault the youkai with the shard had fled them as soon as it had sensed them approaching. Hunting it down had taken the duo deep within the wilderness and they hadn't have a chance to return to the village before nightfall.
And it wasn't her fault Inuyasha had sprained his ankle like a princess during his final attack on the youkai. Now they couldn't go back until dawn.
Which meant that they had to spend the night in the woods.
Damn, it was cold.
Kagome peeked through her breathing hole in the zipper to see Inuyasha sitting in his resting, but alert pose, Tessaiga held in his arms. He appeared perfectly warm and asleep, but from the twitch of his ears and occasional shift in how they stood she was sure he was awake. Kagome's eyes narrowed as an idea came to her mind.
He was warm.
Inuyasha blinked his eyes open when he felt a sudden cool breeze hit his back.
"Huh?" he turned his head, peering in bewilderment at Kagome, swaddled in her sleeping bag, resting against his back and adjusting his hair to fall around and over her. "What the hell?"
"Cold" she informed him as if he wasn't aware of that. He raised an eyebrow. "You just sit here and don't mind me, okay?"
Inuyasha opened his mouth to tell her that she could just sit in his lap, he'd wrap his arms around her, but before any word left him, he closed his mouth and faced forward, so she wouldn't see the blush that this thought brought to his face.
"Feh."
With a contented sigh Kagome sank back in the surprisingly soft hair, resting against his perfectly warm back. She pulled her legs closer to herself and drifted off to the land of cozy sleep, knowing she would be safe, no matter if the enemy was cold weather or random youkai. After all Inuyasha was just behinds her.
Inuyasha smiled, relaxing a bit as he tilted one ear to listen to her breath evening out as she slept.
His miko. Hidden from the world in his fur. Soaking in his scent. Pity Kouga couldn't see this.
