A/N: I'm terribly for this entry being very short and later than I posted the previsions entries. Yesterday wasn't exactly a fox day.
Day 5: Firsts
Kagome sat working on her yarn. A few pieces needed wrapping on a new bit of wood and she was finishing her work as she sat in the bed, the yarn basket next to the futon.
She glanced sideways to see that her husband was already asleep. He was probably tired from the day;s work, so she didn't mind him falling asleep. At least he didn't snore - after decades living in the wild rarely do that, and even then it was really quiet. She prided herself that he felt safe enough to fall asleep around her so easily, it showed his trust for her.
She wasn't the first woman he loved. She wasn't the one who had his first kiss.
She wasn't the first one he told he loved her. She wasn't the first one he embraced and let comb his hair. She wasn't the first one that cried for him.
He wasn't the first man to compliment her or give her gifts. He wasn't the first one sheent on a date with. He wasn't the first one who proposed to her.
And, Kagome smiled as she put her winded yarn back in the basket and went to join her husband laying under the blanket, it was fine.
First attempts at romantic relationship often went sideways, which didn't take away the weight and emotions they carried. There were lessons one only learned by trying. People changed and matured, expressed themselves and worked together - it not always worked out as a lasting relationship at the first time. Moving on and learning to love again after a loss of someone dear to one's heart, that was hard. Even now, after years spent together with her, Inuyasha sometimes got this sad look on his face when he remembered his past - but he also smiled at the memories of those he'd loved and had lost.
Kagome always made a point to hug him more afterwards to cheer him up. She wasn't his first, but she loved him as much as he loved her and she was there to support him, just like he supported her when she was overtaken by memories of her past. They both relied on each other and gave strength to each other.
Inuyasha rolled to the side and pulled her against his chest, his warm breath fanning against her ear and the side of her neck.
"...A wizard's staff has a knob on the end," he murmured in his sleep. Kagome patted the arm that was now draped over her stomach.
"It sure does," she giggled and closed her eyes, not even trying to guess from where he knew this song.
