Chapter 8.
Drago's thoughts were on his reward. This was all going to be so easy. He could not help but feel overjoyed.
"Drago, Drago,... Drago!" Lupe called out to him.
"Huh?" Drago looked up at his leader.
"This is no time to daydream." she snapped at him "This mission is of grave importance."
"Yes ma'am, sorry ma'am." Drago answered.
He smiled to himself, as far as she was concerned, this mission was important. Or rather, his was. The wolf was looking forward to this.
"That foolish girlfriend of mine, she would believe anything." He thought to himself.
Lupe used her binoculars to look ahead. The wolf queen had a lot of faith in her knothole allies. She would trust them with her life. They were a courageous group who have never failed to step up.
"If all goes as planned, Robotnik won't even know what hit him!" as she used her visor to look ahead.
"I'd agree if only the Pack were handling this!" Drago complained.
Lupe heard this, she put down her visor in frustration as she looked to Drago, his complaints were not helpful to her right now. In her opinion, things were tense enough. She knew that the Pack could not do this on their own.
"We're not free agents, Drago!" she glared at him "You'd do well to remember this! Now signal the others!"
Drago glared at her, but he did what was told. He was getting annoyed with being bossed around like this. He had to remind himself that this was all worth it.
Elsewhere, in another sector of the city, Dr. Quack was with Antoine, Bunnie, Rotor and Tails. He managed to sneak his way to where they would be earlier. However, he had no idea why he was here.
He complained "I don't understand! I'm a doctor not a commando!"
Bunnie and Antoine looked to the doctor. Rotor was using his visor to get a good view. Tails still looked forward.
"You are here doctaire because you were ordered to be!" Antoine sounded frustrated.
Bunnie picked up on his frustration, but did not comment on it. She understood that he was on edge, so was she. She was keeping her cool though.
"In ze event of an emergency, we may need-" Ant's communicating cut his explanation off, as it rang "Zut Alors! My communicator!"
"We reached the pinnacle! We're ready to move in!" the voice over the radio spoke.
"We move in, when we get ze signal—Not a second sooner!" Antoine argued "Is zat understood?"
This outburst got Rotor and Tails' attention on Antoine. Dr. Quack look concerned too. The voice soon spoke.
"Crystal. Over and out." the voice replied.
"Ease up Antoine!" Bunnie told him.
"Yeah! Lupe's Pack knows what to do!" Tails argued to the Mobian Coyote.
"I can't blame Antoine for being edgy, though waiting around can be such a killer." Rotor said to Tails.
Everyone was on edge, Snively and Hershey especially. Snively watched the disguised Hershey, feeling butterflies in his stomach. He had to make sure this all went off well. Hershey took deep breathes.
Below Sally was having similar doubts, remembering her father's words about Sonic being a possible traitor. She shook her head, refusing to believe the idea of such a thing. Not Sonic, a person who she felt so strongly for.
"Even now—" she thought to herself "I know Sonic would never betray us!"
"Sal? Give the word!" Sonic looked to the princess.
She snapped out of her thoughts, smiling as she got out some rope "Lets do it, to it, partner!"
Sonic removed a vent grate, and as he replied to her, he did not know they were being watched. The person watching them was his heinous, Dr. Robotnik.
"Ah, there she is!" He said to himself, "The apple of her father's eye!"
He smirks enjoying what he's about to do "And so predictable as well! Exactly on time!"
"If I were a nice guy, I wouldn't do what I'm about to do." He pressed a red button as Sally was hanging.
Some turrets activated behind her, ready to fire. Sally was surprised, not expecting this. The squirrel princess wondered how she would get out of this.
Hershey soon made her move, holding a knife. She was told by Drago that Snively would soon be here. She would kill him, and mission accomplished. She held a knife.
"After he dies, Robotnik will be meet his end later." She thought to herself "Then all this will be over."
Rotor fired his big gun, firing lasers that destroyed the turrets. The knothole group was still worried though for Sally. Snively stayed in hiding as he saw Hershey go near where Sally was still climbing.
Even Antoine felt relieved when "Sonic" came, but it soon turned to terror when "he" took out a knife. From Hershey's end she smiled within her mask. She saw Snively on the rope, or so she thought,
"Die you monster..." she spat under her mask.
She prepared to cut when a voice called "Stop!"
But she had already cut part of the rope. The source of the voice stopped the cut part of the rope from falling, as he grabbed it. The sight shocked everyone.
It was Snively, he held on to the rope. Tying the cut parts together as best he could. He held onto it. Everyone was stunned speechless by this, was Snively Robotnik, trying to save Sally?
"Just climb, I swear I won't let you fall." Snively told her "Hurry!"
Sally climbed up, what choice did she really have. Every fiber of Sally's being called her a fool but she climbed up. She did the last thing she ever thought she would, trusting a Robotnik.
"I... I, what am I looking at?" Antoine was just speechless.
"Are we all dreaming or what?" Bunnie asked in disbelief.
Where he was, Ivo banged his roboticized fist seething with rage. He wanted to throttle his nephew, the traitor. His eyes glowed red.
"That filthy rat! That dirty piece of filth!" Robotnik seethed "How dare he betray me!"
Hershey stood there, looking confused, there were two Snivelys? She soon removed her mask, Snively did not notice as he held the rope for Sally to climb.
What Hershey saw next, left her stunned, Sally climbed up. The Mobian cat felt so horrified by what she had almost down. She almost murdered the princess, but how could she have? Drago gave her the costume.
"I don't believe this.." Lupe remarked, looking through the binoculars.
She was referring to what Snively had done, not registering "Sonic" taking off the mask yet. Drago noticed and felt somewhat nervous now. He wondered how could this have happened.
Robotnik glared at the monitor, then he pressed a button "Drones get that traitor and the princess... Now!"
His voice was in a low snarl.
