Percy was kind of enjoying herself- only slightly but she was. She'd been able to shower and wash her clothes and she'd gotten to eat- that put her in a good mood- and she was getting to play with her powers.

She and Hazel had stationed themselves on the roof and whenever the giants sent up a cannonball Percy would summon up a high powered blast of water to detonate the sphere midair. Hazel was laughing as Percy cackled slightly, which, admittedly did make her sound a little bit crazy but she didn't even care. It was fun.

When she heard the ladder being pulled down she turned her head, giving a little wave, "Morning Frank, beautiful day isn't it." her voice was very upbeat and Frank rolled his eyes.

"You really love blowing stuff up don't you?"

"Oh yeah." Percy nodded. "It's therapeutic- my therapist often told me that it was good to find a way to channel all of my emotions." she paused, "That was one of his wiser comments- usually he just says stuff along the lines of 'Stop being an idiot Penny Johnson, or I'll turn you into a dolphin-"

"You-" Hazel blinked, "Your therapist threatened to turn you into a dolphin? And he didn't even use your name?"

"Oh that's just how he is." Percy waved a hand dismissively, "I told him I thought being a dolphin might be quite nice. Peaceful." she saw Hazel and Frank exchanging bewildered looks and she let out a laugh. "What can I say? I've had a weird life. Which I'm actually starting to remember."

"That's great." Frank smiled at her, "Really great. You look a lot happier."

"I am. I didn't even have nightmares last night- nothing major anyway."

"No screaming." Hazel confirmed- and Percy watched as Frank's gaze fully focused on Hazel and his face flushed and he started to smile- and gods but that was so cute. And Hazel looked almost concerned.

"Are you okay?" she asked. "Why are you smiling?"

"Oh, uh, nothing," he managed. "Thanks for breakfast. And the clothes. And…not hating me."

Hazel looked baffled. "Why would I hate you?"

"It's just…last night," he stammered. "When I summoned the skeleton. I thought…I thought that you thought…I was repulsive ... or something."

Hazel raised her eyebrows. She shook her head in dismay. "Frank, maybe I was surprised. Maybe I was scared of that thing. But repulsed? The way you commanded it, so confident and everything—like, Oh, by the way, guys, I have this all-powerful spartoi we can use. I couldn't believe it. I wasn't repulsed, Frank. I was impressed."

"You were…impressed... by me?"

Percy started to snicker, "Dude, it was very impressive- though it pales in comparison to this I mean- you two are so bad. At last I'll be able to tell Will and Nico I've found a couple worse than them."

"I- have no clue what she's talking about." Hazel said after a moment, "Do you?"

"No." Frank shook his head, "I don't think I want to ask either."

"Probably better if you don't." Percy snickered. Maybe she'd have to do some matchmaking- and her memories were still fuzzy but she got the feeling that she'd always enjoyed meddling and matchmaking. It was fun.

She had vague memories of wanting to bang Nico and Will's heads together for their obliviousness.

She was pulled away from those thoughts by Hazel's voice. "As confusing and kind of amusing as you are we should probably focus." she pointed down towards the army of ogres, who were getting bolder- and that just couldn't be allowed. They were getting closer and closer to the house.

Percy shifted her grip on the hose, eyes narrowing, "We can only hold them back for so long." she pointed out, "I mean, your lawn has a sprinkler system and I could blow it up and cause some confusion down there but that'd be a last ditch effort sort of thing 'cause it would destroy your water pressure. No pressure means no hose and once they've gotten over the confusion the cannonballs are going to plow right into the house." she explained, watching Frank force himself to focus, she could see the thoughts flicking through his mind- it reminded her of watching Annabeth during Capture the Flag- most of the time she came to Percy's cabin to draw up her plans, Percy was sure about that, even if a lot of other stuff wasn't clear yet. It was all getting clearer as more time passed.

So she wasn't surprised when Frank straightened up slightly, a determined look on his face, "Guys, I've got an escape plan." his voice was firm, "My grandmother has an old family friend waiting for us at an airfield not far from here. She has a note for me to give him, he'll fly us north, he's a legion veteran. He'll help us."

"But Arion's not back," Hazel spoke up. "And what about your grandmother? We can't just leave her."

Frank choked back a sob. "Maybe—maybe Arion will find us. As for my grandmother…she was pretty clear. She said she'd be okay." and Percy met Frank's gaze- feeling a rush of sympathy for the other teen. It was painfully clear that Frank didn't believe that for a second.

"Frank-" Percy shook her head- there was no point in pressing the matter. Even if she wanted to. "Listen there is another problem, the lord of the Skies doesn't exactly like his brothers kids flying if you get what I mean- I mean I have done it before once or twice but that's usually on Pegasi or chariots and things- or Festus but again, different."

"You'll have to risk it.…and so will I," Frank said. "By the way, we're related."

Percy whirled around, her eyes wide, "What now?"

"Periclymenus, he was a grandson of Poseidon, he's an ancestor on my moms side. An Argonaut."

Hazel gaped at Frank at that, her eyes wide, "You're a—a descendant of Neptune? Frank, that's—" "Crazy? Yeah. And there's this ability my family has, supposedly. But I don't know how to use it. If I can't figure it out—"

Another massive cheer went up from the Laistrygonians, cutting Frank off mid sentence and Percy whirled around, glowering down at them, "Oi! Fuck off assholes!"

They were staring up- waving and laughing as they pointed at- at Frank. Oh wonderful. "Zhang!" they yelled. "Zhang!"

Hazel stepped closer to Frank at that, clearly protective. "They keep doing that. Why are they yelling your name?"

"Never mind," Frank said. "Listen, we've got to protect Ella, take her with us."

"Of course," Hazel said. "The poor thing needs our help. Besides she loves Percy too much to stay behind."

"No," Frank said. "I mean yes, but it's not just that. She recited a prophecy downstairs. I think…I think it was about this quest."

"She did?" Percy asked quickly, "What did she say?"

"To the north, beyond the gods, lies the legion's crown. Falling from ice, the daughter of Neptune shall drown." Frank's expression was grim as he looked at Percy, who pressed her lips together in a thin line.

"Prophecies rarely make sense." she said after a moment. "Usually they only make sense after the fact. I've heard a fair few. I think- some of it's still fuzzy. And earlier she recited parts of the Great Prophecy?"

"What?" Hazel frowned, "What's that?"

And Percy winced, she wondered how her friends would react- it was still coming back in bits and pieces but- she could remember the Great Prophecy, even if she couldn't fully remember how it had been fulfilled- she was still missing some things- she wondered if her brain was trying to protect her from the worst of it, she'd get vague flashes of some of it but nothing solid. There were still huge chunks missing that she longed to get back, no matter how bad they were. "I- am still figuring some of that back. But I think- and don't quote me on this, that it was- it was one of the most important prophecies ever made. I think."

"And you know about it?" Hazel's brows furrowed, "How?"

"I think- I think part of it included me." Percy admitted. "It's still blurry and I- I want to understand it before I explain things." she was saved from having to explain further by a cannon ball coming flying towards them- she turned the hose on it, using her powers to detonate it midair.

It exploded in an orange fireball. The ogres clapped with appreciation and yelled, "Pretty! Pretty!" "The thing is," Frank said, clearly trying to get them back on track, "Ella remembers everything she reads. She said something about the page being burned, like she'd read a damaged text of prophecies."
Hazel's eyes widened. "Burned books of prophecy? You don't think—but that's impossible!"

"The books Octavian wanted, back at camp?" Percy guessed, a sinking feeling in the pit of her stomach.

Hazel whistled under her breath. "The lost Sibylline books that outlined the entire destiny of Rome. If Ella actually read a copy somehow, and memorized it—"

"Then she's the most valuable harpy in the world," Frank said. "No wonder Phineas wanted to capture her."

"Frank Zhang!" an ogre shouted from below. He was bigger than the rest, wearing a lion's cape like a Roman standard bearer and a plastic bib with a lobster on it. "Come down, son of Mars! We've been waiting for you. Come, be our honored guest!"

Hazel gripped Frank's arm. "Why do I get the feeling that 'honored guest' means the same thing as 'dinner'?"

"Because it probably does." Percy glared downwards, her eyes narrowed at the monsters as she called., "Go eat yourselves you losers!"

She straightened up and focused on Frank, who took a deep breath, "Percy, please tell me you can drive?"

"Yeah." Percy nodded, "I don't have my license but I know how to drive."

"Grandmother's car is in the garage. It's an old Cadillac. The thing is like a tank. If you can get it started—"

"We'll still have to break through a line of ogres," Hazel said.

"The sprinkler system," Percy said, grinning evilly. "Use it as a distraction? Please say yes. I do so love causing chaos and destruction."

"You get far too much enjoyment from that-" Frank's lips twitched, "You're just pure chaos you are Percy. Listen I'll but you all as much time as I can. You two need to get Ella and get in the car. I'll try to meet you in the garage but don't wait for me-"

"Frank." Percy's eyes narrowed, "We're not leaving you behind-"

"If I'm right you won't have to." Frank looked pale but determined- and Percy felt a rush of affection for her new friend. He was a good person, better than many he'd met. He had very little confidence but he was brave, smart and loyal, and protective too. He might not be the fiercest warrior she'd ever met but he was strong in different ways.

And Hazel looked almost as upset as Percy felt, her eyes filling with tears. "Frank-" she was cut off before she could finish what she wanted to say.

"Give us your answer, Frank Zhang!" the ogre yelled up. "Come down, and we will spare the others—your friends, your poor old granny. We only want you!"

"You know they're lying right?" Percy's face was pale as she stared at her friend.

"Yeah, I got that," Frank agreed. "Go!"

Percy gave a short nod, grabbing Hazel's hand and dragging the other girl down off the roof- and she saw Hazel's eyes filling with tears but Percy forced herself to keep moving. "Hazel he'll be fine I promise you."

"I-" Hazel caught her breath, "You really believe that."

"We have to trust him." Percy stated firmly, grabbing Ella's hand as they raced down to the garage- Percy was relieved to find that the keys and the garage door remote were kept hanging up in the garage, and she quickly loaded up Hazel into the back seat and Ella in the passenger seat before leaping into the front herself. For a few moments she was worried that it wouldn't start but soon enough the engine roared to life, and Percy swallowed hard, glancing at the door into the garage- Frank had told them to go, he'd told them to go- and she could hear explosions- but there was no way Percy was leaving without him. Not a chance- but if they got out of the garage- Percy gritted her teeth, as she clicked on the button on the garage door remote- and as they started opening Frank came bursting through the doors to the garage- and Percy let out a relieved gasp, "Get in-" and Hazel shifted, flinging the door open- as soon as Frank had dove inside Percy was driving, bursting outside before the garage door was even fully open, leaving a Cadillac-shaped hole of splintered wood.

The ogres ran to intercept, but Percy shouted at the top of her lungs, focusing and ignoring the pulling sensation in her stomach, and the irrigation system exploded. A hundred geysers shot into the air along with clods of dirt, pieces of pipe, and very heavy sprinkler heads.

The Cadillac was going about forty when they hit the first ogre, who disintegrated on impact. By the time the other monsters overcame their confusion, the Cadillac was half a mile down the road. Flaming cannonballs burst behind them.

Percy kept her foot down, she didn't look back as she sped onwards- though in the mirror she saw Frank looking back at his home and, and she heard his soft, hopeful and almost relieved whisper of "Grandmother?"
