Foreword
This fanfiction was requested by a reddit user, u/copenhagen_bram, so I'm giving him the credits. I also want to say that JK Rowling owns Harry Potter, and this FanFic is just meant to be for fun. I'm not very good at English, it's my second language. I hope you'll forgive me for any spelling or grammar mistakes.
I hope you enjoy reading this fanfiction as much as I enjoyed writing it!
A Toad Kidnapped
"Have you got her, Lucius?" said the high pitched voice of Lord Voldemort.
"Yes my lord. But m-may I ask you why do you want her?" said Mr. Malfoy with caution.
"You'll get the answer soon." Voldemort said, his lips curling into a dark smile. He looked down at the woman who was bound in tight green ropes against her dirty pink robes and gagged in some strange black fabric. She was struggling against the ropes, as thought they would break open like this.
"Miss. Umbridge has so kindly joined us tonight." Voldemort said softly to all the other Death Eaters around them. "We are probably going to serve you with all our heart, aren't we, my lady?" he added softly to Umbridge, who made a short noise, unable to speak. Voldemort raised his wand and flicked it at her. The black cloth fell down her toad like mouth, she started breathing in harsh gasps.
"We're going to have so much fun, my lady. You don't need to worry." he said as he pointed his wand at his own throat.
"I have already placed protection around the castle." Professor McGonagall was saying, "but it is unlikely to hold on for very long unless we reinforce it. I must ask you, therefore, to move quickly and calmly and do as your prefects-"
But her final words were drowned as a different voice echoed around throughout the Hall. It was high, cold and clear: there was no telling from where it came; it seemed to issue from the walls themselves. Like the monster it had once commanded, it might have lain dominant there for years.
"I know that you are preparing to fight." There were screams amongst the students, some of whom clutched each other, looking around in terror for the source of the sound. "But there is something that I can do to stop you. I have kidnapped a lady," there were more screams, "a lady whom none of you like. A lady whom everyone seems to hate."
There was silence in the Hall now, the kind of silence that presses against the eardrums, that seems too huge to be contained by walls.
"Give me Harry Potter," said Voldemort's voice, "and I'll kill Umbridge. Give me Harry Potter, and I'll make her suffer. Give me Harry Potter, and I shall leave the school untouched.
"You have until midnight."
The silence swallowed them all again. Every head turned, every eyes in the place seemed to have found Harry, to hold him frozen in the glare of thousands of invisible beams. Then a figure rose from the Ravenclaw table and he saw the face of a girl he didn't knew as she raised a shaking hand and screamed, "But he's there! Potter's there! Someone grab him!"
Everyone hesitated for a moment, then stood up and rushed to him. But before they could reach him, they were blocked by members from the DA and some Hufflepuffs. Harry looked at the professors, but most of them were looking at him with guilty faces.
"We can't let that Umbridge live!" One of the student said. There were loud, indistinct noises of approval, some of them even coming from the staff table.
"Silence!" Professor McGonagall snapped, her voice echoed round the Hall and it made the students and the staff quiet. "I know you want her dead, we all do." she said after a long moment of silence, "But we can't let Potter die for i-"
"But that toad deserves to be tortured!" A student screamed. The DA members opened their mouth to argue, but a Hufflepuff girl screamed back first.
"We can't kill Harry for her, she isn't worth it!"
There was another silence, then a murmur of agreement from most of the students. Everyone went down to resume their seats, except the people who had stood out for Harry.
"Well that settles it," said Professor McGonagall after yet another silence, "you all will leave the Hall with your head of houses."
Slowly, the four tables emptied once again. The Slytherin table was completely deserted, but a number of older Ravenclaws remained seated while their fellows filed out; each of the Hufflepuffs over the fifth year stayed behind and half of the Griffindors remained in their seats, necessitating Professor McGonagall's descent from the teacher's platform to chivvy the underage on their way.
"Potter," she said to Harry sharply, "aren't you supposed to be looking for something?"
"What? Oh," said Harry, "oh yeah."
He had almost forgotten about the Horcrux, almost forgotten that the battle was being fought so that he could search for it: the possibility that he could make Umbridge suffer, that he could make her pay for all those crimes she had committed had momentarily driven every other thought from his mind.
"Then go, Potter, go!"
"Right- yeah-"
~Fast forward finding Ron and Hermione, finding and destroying the diadem & Fred's death (*sob*)~
And Voldemort swiped the air with the Elder wand. It did nothing to Snape, who for a split second seemed to think that he had been reprieved: but then Voldemort's intentions became clear. The snake's cage was rolling through the air, and before Snape could do anything more than yell, it had encased him, head and shoulders, and Voldemort spoke in Parseltongue.
"Kill."
There was a terrible scream. Harry saw Snape's face losing the little colour it had left, it whitened as his black eye widened, as the snake's fang pierced his neck, as he failed to push the enchanted cage off himself, as his knees gave way and he fell to the floor. Umbridge screamed and started kicking on the ground, trying to push herself away. It was probably a difficult task: her hands and legs were bound tightly.
Voldemort turned away; there was no sadness in his face, no remorse. It was time to leave the shack and take charge, with a wand that would now do his full biding. He pointed it at the starry cage holding the snake, but only to find that it was gone.
There was another ear piercing scream. The snake was now upon Umbridge and was baring it's pointed fangs, hissing loudly. Voldemort hissed "leave her!", but the snake ignored it. Umbridge started kicking madly, but her legs would not reach the snake. And suddenly, the snake jabbed.
Umbridge gasped loudly and started to cough. Voldemort pointed the Elder Wand at the snake's cage, which drifted upwards, off Umbridge, who fell sideways in the floor with a loud thump, blood gushing from the wound in her chest.
"No problem," Voldemort said, "nobody will know about it." He swept from the room without a backwards glance, and the great serpent floated after him in its huge protective sphere.
Harry looked at the pink-robed lady. Her eyes were wide open with shock. Despite of the shock and the grief of his friends' death, he could not help but grin: the toad was dead.
So here I end this fanfic. If it feels rushed, it's because it actually is. I don't usually write dark fanfictions, so I was having trouble with it. I hope you still enjoyed it, although it doesn't seems to have Exceeded you Expectations -_-
Thanks for reading anyways!
