He was fighting to survive, in order for him to go back to her.
Organizing an huge takedown of a crime syndicate was a dangerous task at hand, and even for a brilliant high school detective like Kudo Shinichi, it was a difficult challenge. The Black Organization is a multinational crime organization, with multiple headquarters and branches worldwide, and because of that notion, they were hard to beat for 50 years. Now it is time to end all of their madness.
Because he was considered a minor, he was first forbidden to be involved, but because of his insistence and his parents' help, he and Haibara Ai, also known as Miyano Shiho, were allowed by the police and FBI to join in this dangerous mission. He was very grateful for that, for he wanted to be the one who defeat the crows who ruined his life.
The air smelled of death and destruction, as his trusted allies was fighting against the dark shadowswho had ruined not only his life, but the life of other people. Gunshots and dead bodies falling were heard in the background, as bullets were flying all over the place.
He sighed deeply, as he had wiped the stray sweat on his forehead using his free hand. His other hand was holding a gun tightly, a gun that was given to him by his police friends to protect himself from the enemy. As much as he doesn't want to admit it, he was nervous on how all of this will turn out.
His genius mind suddenly think of her. The apple of his eye, his beloved Watson. Her precious smiles, her warm laughs, and her crystaltears had filled his mind. The detective flashed a sad smile as he has closed his tired sapphire eyes.
He may have seen deaths because of her job as a high-school detective, but the truth is, he was afraid to die. He was scared he would die, but the reason was deeper than a childish fear of Grim Reaper claiming his soul. The truth is he was scared because he will be leaving Ran alone. His beloved orchid was waiting for him to come back and he don't want the situation where will find out that he may never ever come back.
He doesn't want that to happen. He will never let her cry because of him.
He will do anything to let her beautiful smile live. The world needs Ran's kind smile, the smile that brighten's anyone's day...and Shinichi's cold heart.
For that to happen, he may have to sacrifice his own life to preserve her own.
He opened his sapphire eyes, and with a newfound determination on his young face, he ran.
He ran and ran, shooting some low-ranked members, while trying to avoid those bullets flying around the area. He panted at the exertion as he was wiping the sweat falling from his forehead, his hands shaking in nervousness. He had hoped he will find the boss of this evil organization, Karasuma Renya, and bring him down, along with his crime organization. It's time to end this.
He went through corridors, avoiding the hostile members shooting at him. He smiled truimphantly. He was going to end this. He was so engrossed on his little victory, that he did not noticed that someone trying to shoot him until he was suddenly shot in the shoulder.
He gasped in pain, as he instinctively hold his injured shoulder. Shinichi looked behind him, with his own gun holding tightly in his hand. When his eyes made contact with the one who shot him, he gasped in shock and his sapphire eyes widened.
"Good to see you again, detective brat," the man who had shot him sneered, as he pointed his gun at the injured boy. He was wearing black, and he has a long silver hair that reaches his knee. His cold eyes though, are the eyes of a merciless murderer.
"YOU!" the young detective spat, his voice seething with rage, as he looked at the merciless man infront of him. He knew this man, he's the one who administered him the APTX-4869, the drug that made him into Edogawa Conan.
"I see. You can still remember me," the man grinned evilly, as the high-school detective glared at him, "How is life's treating you, brat? I can see that the poison never did its job."
The young Kudo just continued to glare at the man, teeth baring like a rabid dog.
"That little traitor. I know you know her." The silver-haired man seethed, as he pointed the gun on the injured youngster, "Sherry, I know she was shrunk into a brat. The hair, the face...I remember that face when the traitor was still a little child. She may have thought I could not recognize her, but I'm not an idiot. Well...traitors deserve to die. Along with the girl that had been with you in that day when I was supposed to kill you."
"DON'T YOU DARE INCLUDE HER IN THIS!"
The killer just smiled like a lunatic, as he spoke in a mocking tone, "Ha, I know you care about them a lot, you were willing to die for the sake of their lives. You could be a great asset to our organization with your intelligence and determination. Too bad, your 'lawful' principles doesn't agree with ours."
"After all, I was the one who ruined your life. I should have truly killed you that night," he continued speaking as he smirked, his left hand prepared to pull the trigger of the gun.
The young detective's eyes narrowed at the man with disdain. On the outside, he may look like he is brave enough to take the man down, but on the inside, he was worried. Scared even.
Is this the end of his story?
To be honest, he did not wish this accursed life. When he was young, he had dreamed being a famous detective, solving impossible mysteries just like his hero, Sherlock Holmes. He was supposed to be a great detective someday, owning his own detective agency or joining the police force. He was supposed to have a future, to be married with Ran and had a family someday.
Not like this, alone with the man who had ruined his young life, while being hopeless, waiting for the darkness to embrace him truly.
But for Ran, he had to end this bullshit, inorder for the world to see her precious smile.
Without hesitation, he had shot the silver-haired man on the leg, making his would-be murderer groan in pain and fell down to the floor. The detective smirked as he stood up, wincing as he felt the numbing pain on his injured shoulder. He should get out here now and find Karasuma.
But before he could go away, he was shot again, but this time on a fatal part of him, on where his heart was located. He gasped painfully, as he staggered, struggling to stand for too long.
Crimson blood was rushing profusely from the wound, as his legs give way, making him kneel and fell on his face flat. He groaned painfully, looking helpless, as he had finally realized what is going to happen.
He will never going to make it.
"You think you could ever kill me with just a measly shot, detective brat?" The silver-haired assasin spat, as he approached the fallen hero, "You have to remember the phrase, Meitantei, You can't easily kill a demon". He raised his gun and point it on the detective's head, ready to pull the trigger.
The detective tried to face his would-be murderer, but he couldn't because of his injury. He groaned in pain. He was bathed in his own crimson blood, waiting for the darkness to claim him. Dizziness came over him, as the dark spots starts to dance in his eyes. The silver-haired man grinned like a manial, as he was a predator and the poor detective as his prey.
"Look at you, a famous high-school detective, who had been solving a lot of cases, is now at my mercy. Too bad, I can't let you live," the man sneered, as he turned the safety pin of his gun off.
The young detective closed his sapphire eyes, waiting for his flame to put out. He was too busy trying to stop the pain racking his body, he had never noticed that a tear has fallen out from his left eye.
Memories came flashing through his eyes. Memories of his past life , the mysteries he had solved through the years, his present life , the memories he had with his family, friends, the police...and her.
Her beloved Ran. Oh how he will be going to miss her smile.
Her smile... Shinichi suddenly realized how they'd never be able to see Ran's beloved warm smile again. He will die in the arms of his murderer, and he will never see her warm smile once again.
If only he could change the past, if only he never followed Gin and Vodka that night, all of this would never happen. He smiled with regret, as tears were now flowing in his sapphire eyes.
The young high-school detective, Kudo Shinichi, also known to some as the wide-eyed brilliant child named Edogawa Conan, is now embracing his unlucky fate.
"Goodbye...Meitantei."
Then the gun went off, as his allies, who had heard the gunshot, shivered and looked around in shock, dread filled their hearts as they felt something terrible. Akai found Gin shooting Kudo's head, and out of anger, shot Kudo's killer with a fatal shot in the head and heart.
A few hours later, the Karasuma Group was taken down officially, with now revealed-to-be-alive Karasuma Renya and the top operatives were detained. Vermouth, also known as Chris Vineyard, was never found. The whole Japan had mourned for the untimely death of the young Reiwa Holmes, as his family and friends were mourning for the loss of their son, friend and confidant.
Mouri Ran just stood on the new patch of grave in front of her as tears had started to fall from her amethyst eyes, her parents and family left her alone to grieve for a few minutes. As her eyes were looking at the grave, a cold breeze blew on the place, as a soft voice had whispered to Ran's ear.
"Smile for me."
Prompt: Imagine Person A in a situation where they have to die so that Person B can live. A is only able to overcome their fear of dying by thinking of B's smile, and how they'd be protecting it with their sacrifice. A dies peacefully - that is, they would have, if they didn't suddenly realize how they'd never be able to see B's smile again.
A/N: Two fanfiction oneshots in one day, that's a record.
As you can see, I will make a bunch of oneshot stories in Detective Conan, based on the prompts I found on the internet. Majority of the fics will be based on ShinRan, but I may possibly do some fics regarding other relationships in the fandom. And yes, it was angst.
This was actually an improved and rewritten version of the first chapter in my old Detective Conan x Danny Phantom crossover, Chiisana Fantomu Meitantei, rewritten to fit the prompt that the fic was based on.
