Chapter One: Escape
Alaskan Wilderness, One week later
A week had passed since that mess on her birthday and now she was forced to be with Ross and his team and it was the longest week of her life. In planning her escape she stashed a t-shirt, hoodie, jeans, and even withdrew her money in cash which she kept in a bag, the amount enough for her to escape and start somewhere else. During that time Ross spoke of how he was going to turn her into a traditional wife and have her cook, clean, as well as get her barefoot and pregnant. He even began to touch and grope her in places that are supposed to be private. The creep even went as far as watching her take a shower! She was disgusted at this and tried to avoid him as much as possible. Two days ago there was a Lara Croft sighting near the wood mill that Trinity is using as a base. Phoenix waited for Croft to show up and give her the opportunity to escape.
"Have you eaten anything today?" Ross asked
Phoenix turned over in her bunk, her back facing Ross
"Oh, come now, I can't have my future bride starve herself." Ross still tries to get her to budge
"Leave me alone," Phoenix murmured
"There's no escaping your fate Phoenix. You're going to be my wife and mother of my children, you're going to follow Trinity's ways and you're going to like it!" Ross declared
Before Phoenix could fire back, the sounds of gunshots ringing out interrupted her train of thought. A Trinity soldier with an arrow stuck in his shoulder ran in. As soon as Ross saw the arrow he knew it. Croft is here.
"Boss, Croft is here!" the wounded man yelled
"I know I saw the arrow!"
"Let's get you to a medic, see what he could do about that arrow and Phoenix, stay here, Croft is dangerous!" Ross helped the wounded man out to the door, once he was an earshot away, now she has to figure out how to get past the guards outside.
The sound of arrows striking and two pained screams, as well as a thud solved that problem. Phoenix quickly changed into her t-shirt, hoodie, and jeans, and grabbed her bag. She slowly opened the door and saw the two guards dead with arrows in their hearts. Once she was sure that the coast was clear, she took off, running as fast as her legs would allow it. She tripped on a tree root and rolled down a hill. Unfortunately a surviving Trinity soldier spotted her.
"Hey! Where are you going? Guys Phoenix is escaping!" The man shouted. He and two others gave chase until they cornered Phoenix at the edge of a cliff with a river below.
Phoenix took a deep breath and jumped into the river. Phoenix was barely keeping her head above water. The last thing she saw before passing out was a hand reaching into the water and grabbing her arm.
When she woke up, she was in a tent with a towel wrapped around her. Her bag was in the tent with her as well miraculously undamaged. She opened the tent and there was someone tending to the fire. Phoenix's eyes widened when she caught a glimpse of the red climbing axe she only heard about in stories.
Oh no. It better not be what I think it is. Phoenix thought to herself
Author's Note: Oh yeah it is what I think it is. Next chapter the moment we've been waiting for Lara Croft herself makes an appearance. This story takes place from 2016 to 2017
