Chapter 4: To Train A Phoenix

"Lara, are you sure about this?" Phoenix asked as she and Lara entered the gun range

"Absolutely." Lara replied

Phoenix has played video games before, but she is a little apprehensive about firing a gun in real life. Lara had insisted upon it, considering the fact that trouble tends to follow her everywhere she went and there was the possibility that Phoenix's father, stepmother, and Ross might find her and try to take her back. For these reasons Lara did not want to take any chances. She had brought her semi-auto pistol and the revolver she obtained in Siberia and spent the first few minutes teaching Phoenix how to load and unload both of them. Phoenix stood in the booth with the goggles and earmuffs on, arms extended in front of her with the revolver gripped in her hands. Lara moved right behind Phoenix to correct her posture. Phoenix blushed, feeling the archaeologist pressed up against her back.

Oh man, am I starting to have a crush on her? Phoenix thought to herself

Phoenix never really had a crush on anyone in her life. While seeking out a crush might seem like a big deal for some people, Phoenix never thought much of it. At least until now. She thought her first crush would be a boy like any other girl, now this is not the case. It had been a few days since she met Lara and she was already starting to admire the older girl. Lara had saved her life and offered to help her.

"Phoenix? Are you listening?" Lara's voice near her ear interrupted her thoughts

"Uh, yeah."

Damn, that accent is enough to catch my attention. Phoenix thought to herself and blushed even harder at that thought

After Lara corrected Phoenix's posture, she moved to give Phoenix some space. Phoenix concentrates on the target and fires her first shot. The bullet struck the center of the target, but Phoenix stumbled back from the force of firing. Lara goes to catch her.

"Hitting the center of the target on the first try, not bad." Lara complimented her.

"I stumbled a little," said Phoenix

"I stumbled during my first few tries too. You'll get it Phoenix, it just takes time."

Over the course of several days with Lara's help, Phoenix started getting better at firing handguns. Then they started moving onto shotguns and rifles. Lara is surprised at how quickly Phoenix took to using firearms. After two weeks of teaching her how to fire guns Lara moved onto teaching Phoenix hand-to-hand combat. Phoenix revealed to Lara that her mother used to take her to Tae Kwon Do classes when she was a kid, but hadn't been back since her mother died. She and Lara started to spar with each other in the woods for two hours a day and some of the old moves Phoenix learned during her Tae Kwon Do classes started to come back. During those times Phoenix often got distracted by how good Lara looks in a crop top and gym shorts. Though Lara did bring Phoenix to the floor a few times. When Phoenix first took Lara down she was proud of her. After an entire month of training Phoenix was ready to join Lara and Jonah.
