*Chapter 5: Bane*

"Your precious Police Commissioner is just through the glass. Take a look!" Joker spoke from the tv screen. Batman and Mia turned to the right and see a room where Harley holding a gun while Jim is tied to a chair. Harley was under orders to kill the commissioner if she or the henchmen spotted Batman. Mia was getting annoyed by this game.

"Stay here. And don't let Harley see you." Batman said as he pulls on the vent silently. Mia nodded and stood by the wall away from the window. Batman crawled through the vent to get to the room where Joker's men are. The Dark Knight silently took them down one by one while Harley speaks to Jim and the goons. She goes off about marrying Joker and hum to herself.
Mia crawled out of the vent and made it to the room. Before she could follow Batman, she noticed a conjoining room with many screens and computers. It is foggy inside. The nurse walked inside and squint her eyes, trying to see what is in front of her.

"Oooh, looks like someone has found a surprise before the bat." Joker snickered from the screen. Mia turned with a sneer. "Not sure if you met him, Nurse Harlow, but maybe a good look at him may jog your memory."

"Mia? Are you alright?" Jim asked as he and Batman walked in. Batman stood by Mia's side as Jim approached the computer. "It wants Dr. Young's log-in." He said. Mia was about to ask why Jim wanted to go on the computer for, but Batman grabbed her arm gently to pull her behind him.

"Never mind that. Get behind me. Now!" He said. Jim looked up and took a few steps back as the fog clears up. Mia let out a gasp.

"Bane." She whispered. She had heard stories about him. Bane had once broke Batman's back a few years ago. It made Mia cringe when she heard that story from Nightwing. Bane was one of the most brutal enemies of Batman, and now she is seeing him in person, but something is different about Bane. He isn't big. Bane is hanging in the air by the red tubes that seemed to be sucking something out of him.

"I thought he broke out of Blackgate!" Jim cried as he stood behind Batman and Mia.

"Cut me down!" Bane gasped as he brought his head up to face Batman.

"Who did this to you?" Batman asked.

"Dr. Young." Bane replied. "The 'bruja'. She drained the Venom from my blood. Must...stop...her..." Mia wasn't sure if she should feel bad for him. She can't show how bad she feels in front of any other villain. They are criminals.

"Sorry, Has-Bane. The good doctor won't be a problem much longer." Joker said on the tv screen. "How do you like my puppet? What say we cut him down?" Joker press a button. An alarm went off and the red lights flash, making Mia jump and held onto Batman's arm. Green liquid began to pump through the tubes and into Bane's body. The man let out a cry as his body is pumped up. His eyes turn green.

"Oh god..." Mia said, taking a step back.

"Gordan, Mia, run!" Batman told them. Jim grabbed Mia and dragged her out behind him, far enough to watch Bane run out of the room. There are green veins on his body. Like they are glowing. He let out a roar as he ran towards Batman, trying to punch him, but the Dark Knight dodged him. He gave the big man a punch in the face, but it didn't hurt him. Bane let out a growl and pick up Batman with two hands. He threw Batman through the wall and into the Boiler Room.

"Batman!" Mia cried out.

"There's nothing we could do, Mia! We aren't up against Bane." Jim said, pulling her back. "C'mon, we gotta get out of here! Batman can handle this."

"I hope so." Mia said. The two left the scene. Mia knew Batman could survive this fight. She hoped that Bane won't break his back again. She couldn't imagine the pain.

Batman jumped on Bane's back and ripped one of the tubes off. And that pissed off Bane. Joker's men jumped down to help Bane fight Batman, but the Dark Knight fought them all off while jumping out of the way each time Bane charges at him.

"I will crush you!" Bane cried out. He picked up a piece of a brick wall and throw it. But Batman dodged it. He threw a batarang at Bane as the big man charges at him again. Bane hits a wall and Batman climbed on his back and rip the second tube out. Bane tried to grab him from his shoulders. "I will break you this time, Batman!" He growled. Batman moved away from the hands and attempted to pull the third tube. Bane let out a cry and the Dark Knight jumped down. The ceiling began to fall on Bane. Batman brought a batclaw and yank himself out of the Boiler Room.
Pulling himself out of the manhole, Batman winces as the pain on his left arm throbbed. He ignored it as he climbs out of the manhole.

"Batman!" Mia's voice said from his right. "Thank god. Are you okay?" She touches his shoulder.

"I'm fine." Batman lied.

"Good thing you made it out." Jim said, approaching him. "I knew you would."

"Where's Quinn?" Batman asked, standing on his feet.

"Gone! Must have gotten loose while Bane was throwing you around." Jim replied. Batman turned to Mia, then to Jim.

"We need to get you two off the island." He said.

"I'm not a rookie. I can handle myself." Jim said.

"And my boss is somewhere. I need to find him still." Mia said. Batman was about to reply to her until Bane burst out of the wall, knocking all three of them off their feet. Mia looked back up at Bane in surprise as she rolls on her back, crawling backwards. Bane let out a roar and picked up Batman.

"I will break you, Batman! Then the 'bruja'!"

"No, Bane." Batman spoke. "This time I break you!" At the sound behind them, a Batmobile zoomed forward, running into Bane after Batman kicked himself away. The car slammed into Bane, driving him into the water. Batman helped Mia up and walk over to the edge of the cliff with Jim to see where the Batmobile and Bane drove into the water. Bubbles were seen. No sign of Bane. Mia wasn't sure if Bane somehow escaped. Batman wouldn't kill him. "Are you hurt?" Batman asked.

"No. Just...startled." Mia replied. "Shame about your car." Batman gave her a smirk.

The trio walked to the docks to see a boat. Batman told Jim and Mia to go back to Gotham where it is safe. Jim really didn't want to leave Batman at the island, yet he was told that Joker planted bombs all over Gotham. The city itself will panic, and Jim couldn't say no to the request Batman is giving him since the Dark Knight himself will be busy on the island.

"You're going with Gordan, Mia. It's too dangerous for you to be here." Batman said turning to the nurse. "I'll find Dr. Raymond. I'll let you know when I find him."

"After Bane burst through a wall like that, I changed my mind." Mia said. She climbed on the boat with a help of Jim. "I'm not doing this shit again. If my boss is alive, he will pay me double as promised and I will not come back here ever again."

"Noted." Jim said. "Glad you decided to join me back home. Your son must be worried right about now."

"Oh, I'm sure he is." Mia said. She looked up at Batman. "You be careful." She gave him a wink. Batman gave her a small smile before turning away.

"Bane called Dr. Young 'bruja'. What does it mean?" Jim asked.

"It's Spanish. For witch." Batman replied as he walked away from the boat. The boat moved away from the docks as Mia sat down. She is glad she made a right choice. She is no match for these dangerous villains. So much that she hates leaving her hero at the island alone, but she believes that he can stop Joker and will come back home safe and sound. Mia checked on her phone and see the time and a missed call from Axel.

"Well, someone was awake while I was at the asylum." Mia said as she brought her phone up to her ear. Jim let out a chuckle. Sounds of ringing is heard. After three rings, she hears her son's voice on the line.

"Mom?"

"Axel, you okay?" Mia asked.

"Yeah, but you aren't home. Where are you?" Axel asked, almost in a worried tone.

"Relax. I'm with Commissioner Gordan. We're coming back to Gotham. I'll be home soon." Mia replied.

"What was going on there? I was listening to the radio and-" Mia then felt a gun pressed against the back of her head. Her eyes went wide. Jim cursed and got his gun out, but a security guard knocks him out with a bat. Mia let out a cry of shock. "Mom? Mom, what's wrong?" Axel asked on the line.

"Hang up the phone, lady." A male voice said from behind. "Hand it over." Mia hangs up her phone and the man took it from her. Mia turned around and see the man remove the helmet and see clown makeup on him. These weren't security guards of the island. These are Joker's men. The man threw Mia's phone in the water. "The boss didn't want ya to leave. Or call for help." The man said.

"What do you want from us?" Mia asked.

"You and the commissioner are a part of this. Now, back to the asylum!" The man said. The other man turned the boat around. Mia is trapped. She and Jim are held hostage. But, if Mia had a chance, she could contact Oracle or Batman through the earbud she still has. Axel must be very worried and scared by now. He won't be able to sleep until his mother returns home alive.
