Volume I: The Incredible Hulk
Note: This will be the fourteenth chapter of Volume I, this will feature Bruce Banner AKA the Hulk first appearance in the story. The Hulk will cross paths with Spider-Man as the question remains, are they friends or foes. Characters like General Ross, Colonel Talbot, and Jennifer Walters will make their first appearance in this chapter.
Its January 20th, it's nighttime somewhere on the road a bus is in route to New York City, a man wearing a cap and sunglasses is staring at the road passing through. This man is Bruce Banner, a 38 year old man with brown hair and brown eyes, he wears a hoodie and blue pants.
The bus stopped at a truck stop for a break and refueling before proceeding to the city. A lot of passengers got off to stretch their legs and grabs some snacks before they hit the road again.
Bruce got off the bus as he found a pay phone to use, he pulled out some change as he dialed some digits and made a phone call to someone close to him.
"Law Offices of Jennifer Walters, who might be calling?"
"I need to talk to Jennifer Walters please, tell here that her cousin is calling her, she'll know what that means." Bruce says to the phone.
"One moment please."
(New York City)
At a small law firm run by Jennifer Walters, attorney at law and cousin to Bruce Banner, Jennifer is in her officer reviewing some cases she's preparing for court until her phone rang, she picked it up and listen.
"Yes?" Jennifer listening to the phone.
"Ms. Walters, some is calling you claiming to be your cousin, he said that you would know what that means."
"Put it through." Jennifer tells her secretary.
(Truck Stop)
Bruce is still waiting for his cousin to call back, he looks around to see a patrol car coming in and some cops entering the truck stop for some snacks. Bruce is feeling a bit paranoid since he's on the run from the Army that's still hunting him.
"Hello? Bruce, is that you?" Jennifer says over the phone.
"Yeah, it's good to hear your voice coz." Bruce smiled in relief.
"I never thought I'd hear from you again. It's been two years since..." Jennifer speaks to Bruce.
"I know. Listen I don't have much time, I have to be brief, I'm actually on my way to New York to stop by ESU for something that can help me with my condition. I might have some time to stop by to see you." Bruce says to Jennifer.
"I'd like that, there's so much we need to catch up on." Jennifer says to Bruce.
Bruce sees some cops leaving the truck stop as he doesn't have much time to go on.
"Listen I have to go. I promise to see you when I can." Bruce says to Jennifer.
"Okay, be careful Bruce." Jennifer says to Bruce.
"Will do." Bruce hangs up the phone.
Bruce slowly makes it back to the bus with the group as it's soon to be leaving, he hopes that he hasn't drawn some attention, because he knows that Ross will be looking for him.
At an Army Base in upstate New York, General Thaddeus Ross is in his office working until Colonel Glenn Talbot came by to speak with the General.
"General." Colonel Talbot salute to General Ross.
"Colonel, what do you have?" Ross awaiting answers from Talbot.
"It's him, Banner, we found him." Talbot gave Ross the news.
"Banner? Are you sure that it's him?" Ross wants a confirmation.
"Positive, we tapped the phones of anyone he's connected with, including the law office that his cousin owns. He just called her and said that he's on his way to New York City." Talbot gives the details.
"Excellent, then we shall be ready and this time he won't escape from us again. Send our people there immediately." Ross gave Talbot the order.
"Yes, General Ross." Talbot walks away to do his job.
Ross has been hunting down Bruce Banner for years because of who he is and what he's capable of, Banner carries something inside him, something big and powerful that Ross wants to exploit for the Army and he won't stop until he finally has it.
The next day as school ended, Peter, Gwen, Mary Jane, and Harry all walked out of school together.
"So shall we all go and grab a cup of coffee at the Coffee Bean?" Harry suggested to them.
"That sounds good." Mary Jane liked the idea.
"I'm in. Peter?" Gwen agrees too.
"Maybe another time." Peter skips out.
"Come on, Pete. We all hardly hang around together since you've started working for the Bugle." Harry says to Peter.
"Look Harry, some of us have real work to do, we're all not as fortunate as you." Peter gave an excuse.
"Come on, Tiger. It's only coffee, I'm sure that you can take a small break from your work just once in a while." Mary Jane encourages Peter to hang out.
"Come on Pete, I'm buying." Harry offers to buy for them.
"Please Peter, for me." Gwen looked at Peter.
Peter sighed and smiled. "Fine, as long as you're buying for all of us."
"Okay then, but don't get used to being cheapskates, all of you." Harry smiled at them.
Peter, Gwen, Mary Jane, and Harry all agreed to go out to the Coffee Bean in the city as Peter hasn't hang around his friends more often since he became Spider-Man. He could use a break from being Spider-Man and just be Peter Parker more often.
Sometime later in the city at the bus station, the bus finally made it as everyone got off, including Bruce Banner who is still wearing a cap and sunglasses as to not attract attention to himself.
He walks out of the bus station and looked at the city that his cousin settled in.
"You sure made it to the big city, coz." Bruce says to himself.
Someone bumped into him, someone who looked like a gangbanger, Bruce fell down as he felt some anger in him.
"Hey! Watch yourself, you just gotten in my way!"
Bruce watched his wrist cardiovascular monitor to check his heart rate as it's raising a bit.
"I've done nothing wrong to you. Just go." Bruce tried to avoid any problems for good reason.
"And what if I don't? What are you gonna do about, four eyes."
"You're making me angry. Trust me pal, you do not want me to be angry." Bruce is feeling a bit pissed, he got some green in his eyes.
An officer came by as he notice something going on.
"Is there a problem here?"
"No, no problem at all officer, just a simple misunderstanding."
The gangbanger walked away as Bruce is starting to calm down and his eyes returned back to their normal eye color. He was lucky that he avoid being fully angry as that won't end well for anyone. The officer walked away as the altercation has been suspended.
Bruce then decided to walk away after what could've happened, he could've attracted the attention of Ross and the Army, he found a cab and quickly took it.
"Where to pal?"
"Downtown please." Bruce says to the cabbie.
"You got it."
The cab drives off from the scene as Bruce remained calm but paranoid. He looked out the window at the city that his cousin settled in and made a career for herself.
At the Coffee Bean, Peter is hanging out with his closest friends while staying alert in case trouble is nearby and Spider-Man is needed. Peter could see that Gwen is still remained normal as neither of them talked about that night on Christmas Eve. Harry and Mary Jane's relationship has evolved in the past month.
"Gotta say Pete, it's been awhile since we all got together." Harry says to Peter.
"Yeah, thank you for that drink." Peter is still waiting on his coffee.
"Anytime Bro, I'm glad that you finally made time for your friends. By the way, what's going on between you and Gwen?" Harry noticed something between Peter and Gwen.
"What do you mean?" Peter is getting nervous.
"You guys haven't talked much since last months, did something happened between you two that I should know about?" Harry is getting curious about them.
"Ah..." Peter is clueless as to what to say.
"No, nothing happened at all. Right Peter?" Gwen gave Peter the look.
"Ah... yeah, nothing at all." Peter plays along with Gwen.
"Really? I could've sworn that you two had something going on that neither of you want to talk about." Harry sensed something between them.
"Because nothing happened, not that it's any of your business." Gwen tries to deny it.
"Fine, I won't pry too much. Hey Pete, I was wondering if you got some time tonight?" Harry says to Peter.
"Maybe, why?" Peter says to Harry.
"I was wondering if you can help me out with some studies for the quiz tomorrow?" Harry asking Peter for help.
"I might make some time tonight provided there's no trouble. Yeah, I'll try to stop by your place and help you on your studies." Peter agreed to help Harry.
"Thanks Pete." Harry is glad that Peter agreed to help.
"Peter Parker! One caramel latte!"
"That's me." Peter got up off the seat.
Peter walked over to pick up his latte and walks back until he bumps into a stranger, his sunglasses fell down.
"Sorry about that." Peter tries to apologize as he picks up the sunglasses.
Bruce got a little rattled as he's starting to turn green around the eyes, he tries to calm him down as the cardiovascular monitor starts beeping. Peter's spider sense starts to tingle a bit for some strange reason, as danger is nearby.
Bruce managed to calm himself down with some breathing techniques he learned during his time in hiding, the monitor stopped beeping as he's calmed down. Peter's spider sense suddenly stopped as the danger is suddenly over. Peter could see that the man is calming down and his eyes is returning to normal. Peter hands back the glasses as Bruce puts them back on quickly.
"Are you okay?" Peter is concerned for the man.
"I'm fine, thank you for picking up the glasses. I should go." Bruce then leaves the Coffee Bean.
Peter is confused as to what happened back there, his spider sense was tingling for a time as it sensed danger nearby but suddenly didn't, he couldn't figure out what the danger was.
"Hey Pete! Everything alright?!" Harry calling out to Peter who looked distracted.
"Yeah, it's all good." Peter walks back to his friends.
A couple of Blackhawk helicopters are entering Manhattan airspace as Ross and Talbot are personally overseeing this operation as they brought two teams of special ops soldiers armed with tranq darts with live ordinance for backup. They got the pictures of their target, Bruce Banner.
"All right listen up, our target is a fugitive named Bruce Banner. I need him captured alive if possible, use tranq darts to neutralize the target, live ordinance is for backup only in case things get messy. He's been on the run for two years, it is imperative that we make sure that he doesn't leave this island by any means necessary. Understood?" General Ross instructs his men.
"Sir, yes sir!" All his soldiers understood.
"Alright then, let's get to work. Colonel Talbot, what is the status of the bridges and tunnels?" General Ross asking Colonel Talbot.
"It's already taken care of, our men has secured the checkpoints on all the bridges and tunnels, all subways and trains has been suspended for the time being, he's won't be leaving Manhattan anytime soon." Colonel Talbot explained the situation.
"Good, just make sure that none of this gets leaked out to the press, we don't want to alert Banner that we're coming." General Ross says to Colonel Talbot.
The helicopters landed on the ground as the teams got into the vehicles and drive into the city in search of Bruce Banner.
Sometime later as the sun is starting to set, Bruce Banner is hiding nearby watching the law office that his cousin Jen works at. He remains cautious as it's kept him alive and under the radar for these past two years.
Jen is walking to her car that is parked outside the office as Bruce slowly approaches her and managed to get close to her.
"Jen." Bruce uses her nickname.
Jennifer recognize that voice as she became shocked to hear it, she turns around to see her cousin Bruce Banner after two years.
"Bruce." Jennifer smiled as she sees her cousin again for a long time.
Jennifer and Bruce hugged each other as they're happy to see one another.
"I'd miss you." Jennifer smiled as she hugged Bruce.
"I miss you too, Jen. It's been a long time." Bruce smiled as he hugged Jennifer.
They broke off their hug as they have a lot to talk about.
"Where have you been?" Jennifer got curious about Bruce and his time away.
"Here, there, and everywhere. I spent the past two years hiding from the government and mostly from Ross." Bruce tells Jennifer.
"He's still looking for you. It's not fair that you had to give up your life to be on the run." Jennifer tells Bruce.
"No, it's not. I wished that I was never part of that secret experiment, everything changed that day since I tested that serum on myself." Bruce is telling his story.
"Come on, I'm going to head home. You can tell me on the way." Jennifer is about to get inside her car.
Bruce got inside the car too as Jennifer drives off for her home. Unknown to them, an unmarked car is driving out of the parking zone and following them without them noticing it, he pickup the radio to call his superiors.
"I have visual on Ms. Walters, she's driving and in the company of Bruce Banner."
"Excellent, keep your eyes on them and keep me informed." General Ross tells his man.
"Yes sir."
The spy kept on following them keeping his distance as to not attract attention to himself.
Jennifer kept on driving through the city with Bruce at the passenger side, they've kept on talking.
"So you became this 'thing' when you get angry?" Jennifer says to Bruce.
"Or whenever my heart rate elevates to high, I started to change. I've been doing my best to keep what's inside me from getting out. That's why I'm here, I'm looking for a cure." Bruce explained his reason for coming here.
"You think that what you find at ESU will be promising enough for a cure?" Jennifer says to Bruce.
"I hope so, I'd rather not live my life waiting to turn green. I want my old life back, but most of all I want to see her again... my love Betty." Bruce pulled out a photo.
He looks at the photo of him with his girlfriend Betty Ross, he had a normal life with Betty before the accident, before the Hulk. He looked at the side mirror and noticed that there's a car following them, he got suspicious.
"I think that I'm in trouble now." Bruce says to Jennifer.
"What's going on Bruce?" Jennifer is getting worried.
"That car has been following us since we left your office. It's gotta be Ross, he must've tapped your line knowing that I would contact you, he knows that I'm here." Bruce got worried that he got found again.
"What do we do?" Jennifer kept driving the car.
The traffic lights turned red as all the cars stopped.
"I have to go! I'm sorry Jen!" Bruce opened the door to run.
The car far behind looked as Bruce is running out on to the sidewalks.
"Target has rabbit, he's on the run!"
"Chase him, don't lose sight of him!" Ross orders his man.
The man got out of the car and started chasing after Bruce Banner on foot. Bruce kept on running as he looked back and sees someone chasing after him, he figured out that he works for Ross, which means that Ross isn't far behind.
Meanwhile not far from Bruce's current location, Ross and his team of men are driving through the city as Bruce is now onto Ross chasing him.
"Let's go! We need to catch up before Banner escapes again!" Ross wants to catch Bruce quickly.
The vehicles activated the sirens as the car in their pathway move out of the way, the SUVs speed up as they're trying to catch up.
Spider-Man is sitting on the rooftop as he noticed some SUVs with sirens driving fast, he got a sense that something is going on here.
"Where are they going so fast? I'd better check it out." Spider-Man stands up of the edge.
Spider-Man fire off a web line as he swing after the SVUs to investigate what's going on.
At the same time, Bruce is continuing to outrun his pursuer, Bruce then tried to loss him in an alley way he found along the way. He kept on running down the alley until he bumped into some gangbangers along the way.
"Hey! Watch it!"
The same gangbanger Bruce encounter earlier today recognized Bruce immediately.
"Well what do you know? If isn't four eyes!"
Bruce didn't have time for any of this as he tackled the man down and got passed his friends in a hurry. The gangbanger got pretty angry that Bruce tackled him down hard, he and his friends decided to chase after Bruce for revenge.
Bruce finally made it out of the alley until he heard a couple of siren coming from the SVU's. The SVUs stopped as the teams got out and Ross came to oversee the operation personally. Bruce got to see Ross again for so long after two years.
Spider-Man managed to catch up as he stopped on top of a rooftop, he looked down at the street and sees men with military grade weapons, but what got his attention is the man they're after. Spider-Man recognized him as the same man he ran into earlier at the Coffee Bean.
"It's that same guy from before. Why are they after him?" Spider-Man is confused to what's going on.
Bruce ran away from the scene as Ross's men fired off some tranq darts at Bruce. Bruce was able to avoid being shot by those darts as he run through another alley, the gangbangers that he made trouble of kept chasing after him.
He ran out of the alley as he found a factory that is closed, he ran inside hoping to lose everyone chasing him.
Bruce got tired out from too much running as his heart rate is starting to elevate a bit too high, he tries to calm himself down before his heart rate goes any higher.
"You thought that you could lose us?"
Bruce see that the gangbangers managed to find him inside the factory, he had hope to avoid trouble with anyone but right now that seemed impossible for him.
"You don't want to do this. If you all leave right now, then no one gets hurt." Bruce is trying to diffuse the problem.
The gangbangers all laughed as they didn't take his warning seriously.
"You? Going to hurt us? That's cute."
The lead gangbanger swing his fist hard at Bruce's face, Bruce fell down hurt as his heart rate is elevating again, he's having a hard time staying in control.
"How are you going to us, four eyes?"
Bruce is still on the ground until the gangbanger kicked him hard, making him more angry which is dangerous for everyone.
"Stop! You're making me angry!" Bruce is losing control of himself.
"Oh! Am I?"
The gangbangers looked down at Bruce until they see that his eyes are turning green as he get more angrier than ever, then his skin is starting to turn green too. The monitor started to beep more frequently as he changes.
The gangbangers watched as Bruce is starting to change into something else, something dangerous. They all started to fear for their lives as they watched the change happening.
Meanwhile outside the factory as Ross and his men finally tracked down Bruce to a factory. Everyone then heard a huge roar coming from inside the factory as they all got worried. Ross suspects what's happened inside but he's not turning away.
"Alright men, uses tranq darts only. Go inside and use caution." Ross tells his men.
Spider-Man arrive just outside the factory as he see the men with guns going inside, he wonders what this whole thing is about. He swings more closer to the factory as he found a window to enter in.
He climbed inside the window and enters the factory, he looks down to see the armed men searching around the factory for someone but he still doesn't know why they're after one man. Everyone then heard a roar coming from deep inside the factory, Spider-Man hear the roar too.
"What was that?" Spider-Man is getting worried about the roar.
Spider-Man placed his camera in sight in hopes of capturing the pictures of whatever that is making the sounds.
The armed men looked around and found some ripped off clothes that looked like someone expanded out of them. They see someone hiding nearby the crates, they got a closer look to find a gangbanger hiding looking frightened.
"Hey! What happened here?"
"A... monster... it was big."
Everyone is confused as to what's going on, including Spider-Man who is ease dropping without anyone noticing it. They then hear a scream coming deep inside the factory, a person's scream.
The soldiers proceed with caution as to investigate this matter, Spider-Man still remained hidden as he does his own investigation. They found another gangbanger unconscious on the ground but alive. They see another gangbanger tossed across and hit the wall, he became unconscious too. Everyone is starting to get worried as to what they're dealing with.
Everyone sees something big inside the factory hiding among the machinery, something green. The soldiers loaded up their tranq darts as they see it move and started firing at the creature. The creature got hit but due to his much durable skin, the tranq darts couldn't penetrate the skin and bent the tips upon contact. The creature got mad as he sees the soldiers that fired the darts at him. He picked up a forklift and tossed it hard at them. They were able to see it coming and moved quickly before they got crushed.
"Switch to live rounds! Open fire!"
The soldiers loaded up live rounds and starter shooting at the creature, the bullets itself has not effect on the creature but all they're doing is making him more angry. He came charging at them in anger as the soldiers pulled back and ran out. Most of the soldiers managed to run out, the creature catch up to one soldier and grabbed him. The man got frightened at the sight of this green creature, he's in this creature's grip.
"Don't hurt me!"
The Hulk is about to toss the man hard until he got webbed in the eyes and became temporarily blind. Spider-Man came in swing and did the drop kick on the Hulk's face, his grip on the man loosen and Spider-Man webbed him out of the Hulk's grip.
"Spider-Man?"
"Go, get out of here!" Spider-Man tells the soldier to leave.
The soldier leaves the factory as the Hulk pulled off the webbing from his face. He got angry as he sees Spider-Man here in front of him.
"Hello there Shrek! What brings you here?" Spider-Man says to Hulk.
"Spider shouldn't hit Hulk!" Hulk speaks to Spider-Man.
"So you can talk now, Mister... Hulk is it?" Spider-Man talks to Hulk.
"I just want to be alone. Why won't you leave me alone!" Hulk is getting angry.
"Calm down Hulk. There's no need to get angry." Spider-Man tries to calm Hulk down.
"Hulk always angry! Hulk just wants to be alone!!!" Hulk yelled out in anger.
Hulk came charging as he slams his fist down on Spider-Man. Spider-Man dodged the slam and flips back to see that this Hulk is very strong.
"Come on, can't we talk about this?" Spider-Man tries to reason with Hulk.
Hulk jumps up and comes slamming down hard on the ground, Spider-Man managed to dodge the slam but it's making the whole ground shake briefly, Hulk doesn't look too happy.
"Okay, no talk then." Spider-Man says with humor.
Hulk came charging in at Spider-Man but Spidey jumped over the Hulk and landed on his back, he had his arms restrained around his neck trying to control him. As the fight continues the camera Spider-Man placed nearby is taking shots of the fight.
"Come on, don't..." Spider-Man struggle to hold on.
Hulk slammed his back against the wall, hurting Spider-Man.
"...make me..." Spider-Man felt hurt.
Hulk slammed back against the wall again, hurting Spider-Man.
"...wanna..." Spider-Man is hurt gain.
Hulk falls back on the ground, slammed Spider-Man down hard, Hulk stands up as Spider-Man let's go as he's injured from the slam.
"...hurt you." Spider-Man is too injured from the fight.
Hulk has Spider-Man at his mercy but decided not to hurt Spider-Man anymore. Spider-Man is confused as to why Hulk won't continue his attack, he was just defeated but the Hulk spared his life.
"Spider leave Hulk alone now." Hulk says to an injured Spider-Man.
Hulk then leaped out of the building as Spider-Man does nothing but watched Hulk escape. He was lucky that Hulk didn't chose to continue the fight and let Spider-Man live.
Outside the factory, the military as well as some press watched something burst out of the factory, something big and green, everyone is shocked to find some monster in Manhattan.
"He's getting away, chase after him!" Ross radios a helicopter in.
Back inside the factory, Spider-Man was able to recover and stand up as the Hulk has already gotten away, he's surprised that he's still alive after the fight with Hulk.
"Looks like the big green guy got away, though I'm still puzzled by how I'm still alive after the defeat this guy dealt to me. Most of the villains I've faced never show this kind of mercy." Spider-Man wonders why Hulk spared his life.
Spider-Man swings up above the factory and grabbed his camera, he managed to get photos of himself and Hulk fighting.
Meanwhile outside the factory, Ross and Talbot are trying to contain this situation as the press is demanding answers as to what's going on.
"No comment at this time!" Ross is walking through the press.
"What was that thing that burst out? It didn't look human."
"As I said, no comment!" Ross made it through the press.
Ross and Talbot made it to the SUV as they didn't want to talk to the press about this whole matter. The SUV drove away as Ross and Talbot are working ways to cover up this whole mess.
"We need this whole thing to be silenced. Have our men confiscate footages, photos, and witness interviews immediately." Ross orders Talbot.
"Yes General Ross, right on it." Talbot obeys the order.
"What is the status of the Hulk?" Ross wants a report on the Hulk.
"We lost him, he crashed through the subway and is underground. We're still searching but Manhattan has a maze of tunnels underneath, it's like looking for a needle in a haystack. But there have been no reports of the Hulk leaving the island, he's still here." Talbot explains to Ross.
"See to it that it stays that way. Have patrol boats scouting the waters around the island. Send patrols into the tunnels to lock down the subways in and out of Manhattan. We spent two years chasing Banner and now he's finally within reach, we cannot lose him again." Ross refuses to give up the Hulk easily.
It became nighttime as Peter Parker made it to the Daily Bugle with the pictures of Spider-Man fighting the Hulk.
"Hopefully Flattop will pay good money for these pictures, at least I didn't leave empty handed." Peter says while inside the elevator.
The elevator stopped as Peter Parker made it to the floor, he walks down as he sees soldiers here at the Daily Bugle, he spotted Betty Brant working late.
"Betty, what's going on here?" Peter is curious about the soldiers presence.
"Don't know, but Jameson is in the office talking with a couple of Army officials." Betty tells Peter.
Peter looked at Jameson's office as Jameson is talking with Talbot and Ross, Peter recognized them from outside the factory during the Hulk incident, they were there leading the team of men.
Jameson came out of the office along with Talbot and Ross, Peter along with all the employees are curious as to what's going on.
"Listen up everyone, these two are Colonel Talbot and General Ross of the US Army, they have jurisdiction over this entire matter, they want the photos and interviews we've done on this incident turned over to them effective immediately." Jameson explains what's going on.
"This whole matter is classified, nothing concerning this should ever get leaked. Anyone found in possession of this sensitive matter should turned them over to us. Anyone refusing to comply or decided to leak this to the public will be arrested for treason." Talbot explains to the Bugle employees.
A couple of Bugle reporters turned over the notes and recordings from the incident. General Ross noticed that Peter is holding a folder containing photos as well as the camera that was used to photograph the whole matter.
"Son, we need you to turn over the camera and folder if you'll please." General Ross wants what Peter has with him.
Jameson is uncomfortable as he sighed. "Just do it Parker."
Peter had no choice but to turn over his camera and the photos taken from the factory earlier, he hands them over to Talbot.
"Thank you. We'll be sure to return everything once we remove everything from memory." Ross says to Peter.
"Can you at least tell us what this is all about?" Peter is still curious about this.
"Like I said son, it's classified. You all have a good night." General Ross leaves along with Talbot and their men.
Peter lost his camera as well as his chance to earn some money, he still can't shake off the feeling that this guy Ross knows more about the Hulk and for some reason is trying to cover up this whole incident.
Somewhere in an another part of Manhattan, the Hulk managed to lose his pursuers as he's starting to calm down, he's starting to change back to normal to Bruce Banner.
Banner regained control of himself as the Hulk is gone for now, he looked around to find himself in some subway tunnel, the only clothing he's wearing it the pants that he wore early but it became expanded from the Hulk growing.
He walked around the tunnels trying to find a way out until he found a maintenance access, he used it to climb out of the tunnels.
He managed to make it outside as he looks around to make sure that it's clear. He looked across the street to find a laundromat still opened. He made it to the laundromat as he starts to find clothes to wear to replace the ones he lost as the Hulk.
He sneaks around trying to avoid any attention to himself, he sees one of the customers going into the bathroom, he approaches a dryer and opens it to find some clothes that fit him. He found a shirt and jeans that is his size, he quickly took them and left the laundromat.
At the Osborn Manor in the city, Peter is helping his friend Harry with his studies, but Peter is too distracted by everything that has happened today, the Hulk and the military that chases after him.
"So why does the human bowel make an noxious smell? What do you think Pete?" Harry asking Peter who looked distracted. "Pete? Earth to Peter Parker, hello!"
Peter snapped back to reality. "Huh? I'm sorry Harry, I got a lot on my mind."
"What's going on, you look like you got second place in the science fair." Harry says to Peter.
"Sorry, it's just that my day hasn't been great. I managed to get some photos for the Bugle in hopes of getting paid, but instead I had to turn over the photos along with my camera that Ben gave me for my birthday." Peter tells Harry.
"What? You just gave them your camera?" Harry says to Peter.
"Not just me, everyone at the Bugle who worked on the story about what happened at the factory was forced to turn over everything, notes, recordings, and photos." Peter says to Harry.
"Unbelievable, who has the authority for such a thing?" Harry is curious.
"The Army, two guys actually, named Talbot and Ross." Peter says to Harry.
"Ross? As in General Thaddeus Ross?" Norman Osborn was listening as he came in.
"Yeah, you know him?" Peter asking Norman.
"I knew him, years ago he contacted Oscorp in hopes that we could work on a top secret military project, for bio-tech force enhancement. He wanted us to help improve on the physical abilities of a human being, making them better than normal. He funded our research and we were so close to unlocking the secret, but the government's ban on super soldier experimentation was passed and the project was mothballed, never to be continued again." Norman gave details of his experience with General Ross.
"I only recently met him, he didn't say much but he seemed determined to cover up something concerning what happened at the factory, something he doesn't want anyone to know." Peter says to Norman.
"Not surprising, he always had a thing for seeking out power for the military, if he's hunting whatever this is, he must've seen the value of it and he's not going to stop until he gets it." Norman says to Peter.
Peter suspects that there's more to this than meets the eye, he only ran into the Hulk and he knows from experience how dangerous he is, but he can't shake this feeling as to why the Hulk chose to spare him, and what his connection is to that man the Army was chasing.
The next day in the morning somewhere in an abandoned building where the homeless uses it for shelter, Bruce Banner spent the night there to stay off the radar after the Hulk exposed himself to the public, no doubt that Ross already has his picture shown to the police to be on the lookout for him.
Bruce got up as he leaves the building as he still has a purpose, to find a cure for himself. He needs to get to ESU before Ross gets to him, he needs to get rid of the Hulk once and for all.
He looks around the city as some people are walking around, Bruce uses the hoodie he stole from the laundromat and sunglasses to blend in with the crowd, he's hiding in plain sight as he's making his way to ESU.
At the same time in Flushing Meadows at the mobile headquarters that Ross and Talbot as been using during their operation, everyone is still busy looking for Banner or the Hulk.
"Still no sign of the Hulk since last night." Talbot tells Ross.
"Then that means that he's back to being Bruce Banner, he'll be going underground now that he knows that we're after him. We need to find him fast before this whole operation gets exposed." Ross is desperate to find Banner.
"I understand what's at stake." Talbot is aware of the consequences.
"Do you? We been working on this project in secret behind the pentagons back, if Banner manages to tell anyone or someone finds out about this project, we'll both be facing a dishonorable discharge and possibly facing serious time in the barracks. Do you understand that, Colonel?" Ross tells Talbot what's at stake.
"Yes, sir. We may have a lead to follow by." Talbot tells Ross.
"Please, by all means." Ross is listening.
"When we tapped his cousin's line, we overheard something about ESU, which stands for Empire State University." Talbot tells Ross about the lead.
"What does he want from an Ivy League school?" Ross is curious as what Banner is up to.
"Not sure, he said that he needed for something important." Talbot says to Ross.
"Dispatch our men to ESU at once, this time he shall not get away from us again." Ross orders Talbot to send men to ESU.
Bruce arrived at the campus of Empire State University, he sees a lot of students walking around and talking. He hasn't seen any of Ross's men but he's not taking any chances since Ross could find him easily, he needs to make this quick.
He looked at the directory of the campus, he found the location to the lab complex.
Sometime later inside as the hallways are empty, probably due to students being in class. He found the lab used for biochemistry research, the outdoor sign says that it's run by Dr. Curtis Connors, it has everything he needs to do research but he doesn't have much time as someone could come in at any minute.
He open the fridge to find chemicals stored there, he looks around to find the ones he needs for his experiment. After he got the ingredients needed, he got a needle as he sticks it into his arm to extract a blood sample. He placed a sample of his blood onto a microscope slide.
He uses the microscope to examine the blood sample and sees his blood and found traces of gamma radiation. He then proceed to creating an antidote to cure himself.
After he's done making an antidote, he dropped a sample of the cure onto the slide. He examined the blood sample again to sees the effects it would have on the blood. He watched its effects to work as it reduced the gamma radiation in his blood, it appeared successful at first but he soon found out that it cause a reaction to the cells, causing them to explode, the experiment was a failure.
"Damn it, I was so close." Bruce is disappointed in his failure.
He then heard notices coming down the hallway, someone is coming, he took the blood sample away and put away everything in time as he finds someplace to hide. He hides behind the fridge as he sees a janitor coming in the lab, he watched as the janitor goes inside the office of Dr. Connors to clean up. Bruce took this opportunity to move quickly and quietly out of the lab, he managed to make it out.
He made it outside of the building as he walks around the campus. He needs to relocate elsewhere in hopes of continuing his research to find a cure. He stopped walking until he noticed some guys walking around campus wearing shades looking at him.
He turns around and runs away, the men chase after him as he tries to lose them in the building.
Meanwhile an SUV is driving close to ESU as Talbot and Ross got informed of Banner's whereabouts.
"Sir, he's at the University." Talbot told Ross.
"Have the entire area lock down! Make sure he doesn't escape again!" Ross have Talbot an order.
The SUV activated the sirens as it drives too fast through the city, unknown to it, Spider-Man was following them.
"I'd figured since Ross is searching for the Hulk, I'd followed him and he'll lead me to the Hulk." Spider-Man swings through the city.
Spider-Man continues to follow Ross in hope that he'll lead him to the Hulk.
Bruce Banner kept running as he sees another group of soldiers coming in the hallway, he turns to the stairs and goes up.
He reached the overpass as a group of soldiers blocked the doors, he turns around to see another group closing the doors, Bruce is boxed in and cornered with no way out.
Ross arrived at the scene to see Bruce trapped at the overpass.
Spider-Man was able to catch up and sees the same guy from before, he's still confused as to what his connection is to the Hulk.
"Fire off the tear gas!" Ross orders the soldiers.
The soldiers fire off some tear gas from the grenade launchers, the gas is engulfing the overpass as Bruce is starting to tear up as he uses the hoodie to cover up his nose and mouth. The gas is starting to become too much for him to breathe in, he'll soon lose consciousness but he decided to do something that he's not going to like.
He's starting to change himself again in front of everyone's eyes. Spider-Man is watching nearby as he can't believe what happening before his eyes. Bruce is changing green and starting to grow bigger. Bruce became the Hulk and burst out of the overpass, he jumped down onto the ground and roared out loud.
"No way, this guy and the Hulk are one and the same." Spider-Man says in his thoughts.
Ross holds up his radio. "Let him have it! Open fire!"
All the soldiers in the area opened fire on the Hulk as bullets are hitting him but so far none penetrated his tough skin, but all that continued firing is bothering him as he runs away from the scene.
"Don't let him reach the urban area! Keep him here!" Ross wants the Hulk to remain on campus.
The soldiers tries to keep him inside the campus but so far no luck, some students nearby are in the Hulk pathway, Spider-Man needs to do something before they get hurt.
Some of the students runs out of the campus as the Hulk is charging in, a collage girl fell down as she ran. She became afraid as the Hulk is closing in. The Hulk kept run in her direction until Spider-Man came in and kicked Hulk in the face, he steered off course and the girl is saved.
Spider-Man lands in a three point stance as he looks at the girl.
"Get to safety now!" Spider-Man tells the collage girl.
Hulk got back up and sees Spider-Man again, Ross and Talbot sees two enhanced individuals here facing each other off.
"Shall we do something?" Talbot asking Ross.
"No, this might work out for us. Clearly we can't take the Hulk on by normal means. Where is the canister with that special package?" Ross asking Talbot.
"It's in route by helicopter as we speak." Talbot says to Ross.
Ross and Talbot watched as Spider-Man and Hulk are face to face about to fight on another.
"Why won't Spider leave Hulk alone?! Spider make Hulk angry!" Hulk speaks to Spider-Man.
"Sorry about that Big Guy, couldn't let you hurt anyone. It was nothing personal." Spider-Man says to Hulk.
"Hulk just want to be alone. Hulk don't want to hurt Spider, but Spider shouldn't hurt Hulk." Hulk speaking with Spider-Man.
"Really? Because what you did to me back at the factory says otherwise. I can't let you going around hurting people, I have to stop you." Spider-Man is ready to fight.
"Then Hulk will smash Spider!" Hulk is about to fight too.
Hulk slams his fists down hard onto Spider-Man but Spider-Man is quick and is able to dodge it. Ross and Talbot watched how Spider-Man is able to hold his own against the Hulk.
Hulk charges in running as Spider-Man flips back to avoid Hulk. He flip back and jumped up onto a tree, Hulk see Spider-Man on top of the tree. Hulk then picks up the tree as Spider-Man is shaking and jumps off the tree. Hulk was able to rip off the roots off the ground and holds the tree.
"Whoa!" Spider-Man is amazed.
Hulk swings the tree at Spider-Man but he missed as Spider-Man jumped up and ran onto the tree bark, he kicked Hulk in the face again. Hulk got angry again as he tossed the tree hard at Spider-Man, but he missed as the tree crashed into a wall.
Jennifer Walters made it to the scene as she watched the fight happening between Spider-Man and Hulk.
Hulk tossed Spider-Man onto a cab nearby the campus. Spider-Man was hurt but still standing as the Hulk managed to hurt him. He sees Hulk charging in as Spider-Man lifts the cab off the ground and is about to toss it.
"Time for you to go! The cab's on me!" Spider-Man says with humor tossed the cab at Hulk.
Hulk got hit hard by the taxi cab and fell down on the ground. Hulk stand back up again after that hit, he ended up getting angrier and more stronger.
"Every time I hit him, he just gets more angrier and stronger than before. I'll need to change my tactics." Spider-Man says in his thoughts.
Hulk is about to strike again in anger until Spider-Man webbed up his face, he then jumped onto the Hulk and started to crawl around and web him up in a cocoon, hoping to immobilize him, keep him from escaping or attacking. Spider-Man jumped off as he looks at Hulk trapped in a cocoon.
"There, that should do it." Spider-Man looks at Hulk.
The Hulk began to struggle as he rips through the webbing one by one with all his strength, Spider-Man is surprised to see someone breaking through his webbing as the Hulk is now completely free and roaring out loud.
"Oh, c'mon! All that webbing for nothing!" Spider-Man is disappointed that his plan failed.
Spider-Man tries to fire off more webbing at the Hulk but he soon found out that both his web-shooters are emptied from earlier.
"Crap! I'm doomed." Spider-Man is out of webbing.
The Hulk is coming at Spider-Man hard as he didn't have time to change his cartridges for his web-shooters, Spider-Man had to improvise without them. Hulk slams his fist down but Spider-Man quickly dodged it and strikes with a fist to the face.
Hulk quickly counters by swinging his arm at Spider-Man and managed to get him as Spider-Man crashed his back against a tree. Jennifer sees that Spider-Man is in danger as the Hulk is closing in. Spider-Man slowly got himself up but the Hulk managed to grip Spider-Man by the neck.
"Spider should've leave Hulk alone." Hulk says to Spider-Man in his grip.
"Bruce! Don't do it!" Jennifer came out to stop him.
Hulk could see Jennifer Walters here, she's Bruce's family, Spider-Man is confused as to what's going on here.
"Bruce?" Spider-Man says in his thoughts.
Ross watched as the Hulk is distracted, the helicopter came by as it brought the special package.
"This is our chance, pull out the secret weapon." Ross orders his men.
Inside the package is a launcher with some kind of gas inside the rocket. The men assembled the launcher and loaded the gas rocket as they aim at the Hulk.
"We only got one shot at this, make it count." Ross says to his men.
Meanwhile Hulk still has Spider-Man in his grip but hesitates as Jennifer is reaching out to Bruce Banner who is inside the Hulk.
"Bruce, I know that you're in there. Spider-Man is a good person, you don't take innocent lives." Jennifer is reaching out to the Hulk.
The Hulk is calming down as Jennifer's word is getting through, Spider-Man is looking at the Hulk to see that he's calmed down, he could see that there is something human inside him.
Ross's men launched the rocket as Hulk looked at it coming in, he tossed Spider-Man out of the way and pushed Jennifer back as he took in the blow and it emitted some kind of gas. The Hulk is breathing it in as it's doing something to him, he's starting to feel the effects as he's starting to returned back to normal. Jennifer and Spider-Man watched as the Hulk turns back to Bruce Banner.
Bruce Banner is back to being human as the gas somehow managed to reverse back his transformation, but the effects doesn't stop there as Banner is getting unconscious, Ross sees Banner is all normal for now and has an opportunity to capture him.
"This is it! Take him while he's still out!" Ross says to his men.
The soldiers managed to capture Bruce Banner after two years of running from them. Spider-Man managed to hide himself among the tree, he watched as the Army took in Bruce Banner. He's still puzzled by what just happened back there, the Hulk just saved his life from the gas, to Spider-Man that seemed heroic. He's taken down many villains in the past, but his gut is telling him that Hulk is no villain. He sees Jennifer trying to stop Ross from taking Banner.
"Where are you taking him?!" Jennifer demanding answers.
"Dr. Banner is a fugitive and is now in the custody of the US Army." Ross says to Jennifer.
"My cousin is no criminal!" Jennifer says to Ross.
"No, but he is something else entirely. Something that shouldn't be allowed to roam free. We're done answering your questions, now back away or you'll be arrested for obstruction." Ross is leaving with Banner.
Jennifer couldn't do anything to help her cousin as she watched the Army take her cousin into their custody. The military caravan leaves with their valuable prize. Jennifer watched as they drive away with her cousin. Spider-Man couldn't help but watched Jennifer losing her cousin, this time he needs more answers as to what's going on.
Sometime as the sunsets Spider-Man is swing around the city with Jennifer Walters in his arm. He made to her apartment building at the rooftop.
"Thank you for taking me home, Spider-Man." Jennifer thanked the hero.
"It's no problem, though I got to ask, how well do you know about your cousin? Because it seems to me that he doesn't strike me as some criminal." Spider-Man is curious about Bruce Banner.
"Because he isn't, Bruce is a good man, a brilliant scientist, he had everything, a great career, and the woman he loved." Jennifer tells Spider-Man about her cousin.
"How did this happened? How did he became the Hulk?" Spider-Man asking about the Hulk.
"It all started two years ago, my cousin was brought in by General Ross to work on a project that was banned by the government in secret, though they told him that they were working on radiation resistance. They compartmentalize certain details about the project but Bruce being brilliant as he is, he was able to synthesize his own version of the serum with promising results. One day he decided to test it on himself and applied gamma radiation to see if it worked." Jennifer tells Bruce's tale.
"And did it work?" Spider-Man says to Jennifer.
"I'd say that it worked too well, in a way. The serum mixed with gamma created something else entirely, whenever he gets angry, he transformed himself into the Hulk. He disappeared that day and has been on the run these past two years, away from the government, away from his life. My cousin lost everything that day, he has to spent his days running and hiding himself from the world, it's not fair. Can you understand that, Spidey?" Jennifer says to Spider-Man.
"I do, I can understand being dragged into a life that you never wanted. I had a normal life too until I got my powers. Trust me, it's never easy living with such a burden." Spider-Man can relate to Bruce Banner.
"Bruce doesn't need to be locked up, he needs help. Can you help him?" Jennifer asking Spider-Man for his help.
"Yes, I kinda owe Hulk for saving me back there. In some way, there is something heroic in the Hulk that makes him a good person. I'll do it, I'll help free your cousin." Spider-Man agreed to help Bruce Banner.
"Thank you." Jennifer says to Spider-Man.
"Don't thank me yet until I free Bruce, because I will free him. Wish me luck." Spider-Man jumped off the rooftop.
"Good luck." Jennifer watched as Spider-Man is swinging away to save her cousin.
Back home in Forest Hills at the Watson Residence, Mary Jane is on the phone with Peter ,he wants her to cover for him as he already told her what he's planning to do.
"You're what?! Are you crazy?!" Mary Jane doesn't like the idea.
"I have to go and save him, MJ. It's the right thing to do." Peter says to Mary Jane.
"Peter, this isn't a criminal organization or the NYPD you're dealing with, this is the US Army we're talking about. You managed to clear your name after that Kingpin fiasco, if you go up against them, you'll put yourself back on the most wanted list." Mary Jane reminded Peter.
"Mary Jane, Bruce Banner is a person, not a science experiment. I can't ignore this and let them lock him up to be a laboratory experiment. What Ross is doing to him is wrong, I have to free him, it's the right thing to do." Peter says to Mary Jane.
Mary Jane sighed. "You always rushing into trouble as always, Peter. Fine, but just be careful and come back home, do you hear me?"
"I will, I promise." Peter hangs up on the phone.
Mary Jane is getting worried that Peter is heading into another kind of trouble with the law, again. All she can do is have faith that he'll get out of this unharmed.
At the temporary headquarters in Flushing Meadows that the Army uses as their makeshift base. Inside the secure truck is Bruce Banner inside a tube being sedated as to not change into the Hulk. Ross is looking at the unconscious Bruce Banner all powerless for now as the scientist are extracting some blood samples to be studied.
"How is the subject?" Ross asking the scientists.
"Still sedated, as long as we keep it that way, he won't change anytime soon."
"Good, make sure he stays that way. I want everything ready for transport back to base with our prize." Ross says to the scientists.
Meanwhile outside the makeshift base, Spider-Man is looking at it and sees that it's well guarded. He doesn't have much time as the Army doesn't plan to stay for very long.
He turns around to see a military truck driving towards the base, he gets an idea.
As the truck has no escort, Spider-Man was able to run behind it as he was able to catch up so fast thanks to his speed and jumped inside. He surprised two soldiers in the back as they tried to get Spider-Man. The back of the truck is having a ruckus as Spider-Man got the best of the soldiers, he tossed them out all webbed up and unconscious.
The truck went passed the checkpoint with Spider-Man hiding in the back, the truck parked itself as the driver got off and went to the back to check it out. He open the back and got webbed up quickly, he got pulled and punched out. Spider-Man got out as he looked around to see that he got in undetected.
He scouts around the temporary base in search of Bruce Banner or Ross, he does his best to avoid any security while staying hidden.
He spotted Ross coming out from a trailer and leaving. Spider-Man decided to go see the trailer first before going to see Banner. He made it inside as he looks around, he found a computer on the desk. He sits down as he tries to access the computer to find that it's locked.
"Impressive, though futile. Besides being a science whiz, I'm also good at computers." Spider-Man is cracking the computer, he managed to get in. "... and, voila! Spidey, you are just that good."
He looks at the classified files on the secret super soldier project that has been ban by the government and sees that Ross is still continuing it behind everyone's back. He pulled out his phone as he plugs it into the computer. He then copies the contents and downloads it into his phone for evidence. Spider-Man then is prepared to leak this information out in hopes that it'll be useful as a bargaining chip.
Spider-Man then leaves the trailer as he sees some scientists going inside the tent that looks like a makeshift lab, he suspects that where Bruce Banner is. He quietly sneak around undetected as he sees Ross exiting the lab.
Inside the lab, Bruce is still sedated as the scientists are packing up the equipment and preparing Bruce Banner to be transported back to base. Spider-Man sees Bruce Banner is unconscious and hooked up to a machine that's pumping sedatives into his system.
Spider-Man jumped down and surprised the scientists by webbing them up together, then some security soldiers tries to aimed their guns but Spider-Man runs up and does the scissor kick, he took them both down.
After everyone is dealt with, Spider-Man went to check up on Bruce Banner still sedated. He then turns off the machine as the sedatives stopped going into Bruce. Bruce is waking up as his physiology quickly burns the sedatives left in his body, he wakes up to see Spider-Man here.
"Spider-Man?" Bruce says to Spider-Man.
"In the flesh." Spider-Man says to Bruce.
"Why are you here?" Bruce is curious about his presence.
"You cousin sent me, I'm here to help free you." Spider-Man says to Bruce.
"You want to free me? Why? After what the Hulk has done to you?" Bruce is clueless about this.
"The Hulk could've killed me, but he didn't. Beside he even saved me from getting captured. I know a lot of villains in the past year, but you and Hulk aren't them. You're a person just like me and you deserve to have your freedom." Spider-Man says to Bruce.
"It's been a long time since I trusted anyone. I couldn't trust anyone for so long that it kept me alive and under the radar these past two years. I'll trust you to get me out of here." Bruce placed his trust in Spider-Man.
"Thank you. Can you stand?" Spider-Man asking Bruce.
"Yeah, I think can stand." Bruce gets out of the tube and stands on his two feet.
Spider-Man and Bruce then heard the alarm going off as the whole area is on alert, they see a surveillance camera nearby pointing at their direction.
"I guess they know that I'm here. Time to go." Spider-Man says to Bruce.
Spider-Man and Bruce leaves the tent as they made it outside to find a platoon of soldiers outside, they're trapped. Ross and Talbot came out to see Spider-Man helping Banner to escape.
"Leaving so soon? I've gone through a lot of trouble and expense to capture you Bruce, I wasn't going to lose my prize so easily. As for you Spider-Man, we only wanted the Hulk, but getting you was a bonus. You've displayed amazing feats for a human being, I am curious to find out what makes you tick." Ross wants both the Hulk and Spider-Man captured alive.
The soldiers raised their guns at them as Spider-Man and Banner are cornered.
"Take them!" Talbot orders the soldiers.
Spider-Man takes Banner as they run away, the soldiers opened fire on them, both of the heroes found cover behind the boxes. Spider-Man took a peek to see another wave of soldiers in the other direction. They're trapped as there's no way out.
"There's too many of them! You can't take them on alone!" Bruce says to Spider-Man.
"No, I'm not alone." Spider-Man got an idea on how to get out of this, he looks at Bruce.
"What? Why are you looking at me?" Bruce is confused as to what Spider-Man is up to.
"Forgive me for saying this but, I need you to get angry. We need the Hulk to get out of this." Spider-Man needs the Hulk.
Bruce sighed. "Fine, stand back"
Bruce tries to tap into his anger but so far nothing is happening, he need to be more angry for it to work.
"Nothing, I need to be a lot angry for the Hulk to come out!" Bruce says to Spider-Man.
"So how do we do that?" Spider-Man says to Bruce.
"Slap me, in the face!" Bruce wants Spider-Man to slap him.
"What? I'm not going to slap you!" Spider-Man doesn't want to hurt Bruce.
"Just do it!" Bruce yelled out.
Spider-Man sighed as he slaps Bruce in the face, but nothing happened.
"Again!" Bruce wants Spider-Man to slap him again.
Spider-Man slaps him again making Bruce a bit mad as his anger is growing.
"Again!" Bruce is turning a bit green.
Spider-Man slaps him one more time to give him the final push. Bruce felt the slap as he's starting to get more angrier and he's starting to change green. Spider-Man watched as Bruce is transforming into the Hulk. The soldiers ceasefire as they watched the Hulk being transformed before their eyes. The Hulk finally grew and roared out loud.
"Wow! It's about time, Big Guy!" Spider-Man says to Hulk.
"Spider save Hulk, Spider is Hulk's friend." Hulk smiled at Spider-Man.
Ross sees Banner became the Hulk again and is teamed up with Spider-Man, all the soldiers still have Spider-Man and Hulk surrounded.
"Get them! Bring in the gunships!" Ross radios in some gunships.
The soldiers started firing off bullets as the Hulk covers Spider-Man and protects him, Spider-Man fires off some webbing at the barrels of the guns, jamming them. The Hulk covers for Spider-Man as Spidey neutralizes the guns. The soldiers are having their guns jammed by the webbing as they're losing their advantage over them. A humvee is coming in their way with 50 caliber machine gun.
"Their guns has been neutralized, this is our chance to push through!" Spider-Man says to Hulk.
"I'll smash through! Get behind me!" Hulk is about to charge.
Hulk charges in running towards the humvee as it started firing bullets, Spider-Man followed behind him. The bullets are having no effect on the Hulk as the soldiers in the humvee are scared, they've bailed out as the Hulk flips the humvee off the ground.
Hulk and Spider-Man managed to push in through as they made it outside the makeshift base but they're not out of the woods yet as several gunships are closing in, they have them both surrounded as neither of them have a way out.
"Hulk, Spider-Man, this is you last chance to surrender yourself! Surrender now or we will open fire!" Ross says on the megaphone.
Spider-Man quickly pulled out his phone as he's ready to leak out this whole operation for the whole world to see.
"If you try anything Ross! I'm prepared to leak out this whole operation you've got going onto everyone to see!" Spider-Man holding the phone ready to be pressed.
"I don't believe you! You're bluffing!" Ross isn't convinced.
"I managed to copy some contents from your computer onto my phone. I'm prepared to leak this whole thing out if you try anything, then we all have something to lose." Spider-Man not backing down.
"You think that I'll give into blackmail!" Ross says to Spider-Man.
"I don't know, but I'm dying to find out! You choose!" Spider-Man holds the phone.
Ross is given an ultimatum, either let Spider-Man and Hulk go and continue being free, or Spider-Man leaks this whole illegal operation Ross has been doing and he'll lose everything. Spider-Man still has the leverage over Ross now but what happens tonight depend on how Ross chooses.
"Stand down men! Let them go!" Ross tells his men.
The soldiers stand down as Ross gave in, the gunships have been ordered to stand down too. Spider-Man and Hulk watched as the Army is standing down.
"You're both free to go. You play a dangerous game Spider-Man, next time you won't get away with this." Ross tells Spider-Man.
"Let's go Hulk, it's time to go." Spider-Man says to Hulk.
Spider-Man and the Hulk both leave the area as Ross and the military are no long after them.
Sometime later far from Flushing Meadows, Spider-Man and Hulk are safely far away from danger.
"That was a close one, I was getting worried that it could've ended differently. It's over now Hulk, you're free." Spider-Man says to Hulk.
"Hulk is grateful to Spider, Spider is Hulk's friend, Hulk thanks Spider." Hulk is grateful to Spider-Man.
"You're welcome, Hulk. You're finally free now, though you might want to lay low for a while. Ross managed to back away though I'm not sure for how long." Spider-Man suggested to Hulk.
"Hmm, Hulk can't go back to being Banner. Hulk still got lot of fire inside." Hulk is still the same.
"Okay then. I guess you'll have to be Hulk for awhile until you change back. Well, before you go let me tell you a joke. Knock, knock!" Spider-Man tells a joke.
"Huh? Who's there?" Hulk is playing along.
"Incredible." Spider-Man says to Hulk.
"Incredible who?" Hulk is guessing.
"Incredible Hulk, that's who!" Spider-Man jokes in humor.
The Hulk came out bursting with laughter as he liked the joke, but something unexpected happened, the Hulk kept on laughing as he's changing back into Bruce Banner, Spider-Man is surprised to see that a joke is all it takes to change the Hulk back to normal.
"The Incredible Hulk, that's a good 'knock, knock' joke." Bruce smiled as he giggled.
"Wow, telling a joke is all it takes to bring you back to normal? I should remember that for next time. Come on, Bruce. There's some who wants to see you." Spider-Man says to Bruce.
It's almost midnight back at the apartment of Jennifer Walters, she can't stop worrying for her cousin Bruce since he got taken by the Army, she hopes that Spider-Man managed to save him in time.
"Hello there!" Spider-Man is at the balcony.
Jennifer sees Spider-Man at the balcony.
"Spider-Man, did you save him?" Jennifer is wondering.
"See for yourself." Spider-Man steps away to show Bruce Banner in her sights.
"Bruce." Jennifer is surprised to see him again.
"It's me." Bruce smiled at Jennifer.
Bruce and Jennifer hugged each other in relief as Bruce Banner got his freedom back.
"I'm so glad that you're alright." Jennifer smiled in relief.
"So am I." Bruce says to Jennifer.
They turned their attention towards Spider-Man who is the real hero in this story.
"Thank you Spider-Man, I owe you one." Bruce is grateful to Spider-Man.
"I'm just glad to help. So what's next for Bruce Banner?" Spider-Man asking Bruce.
"I guess I should find a quiet place to be in peace, I'm kinda need to relax and enjoy the peace and quiet while it lasts." Bruce says to Spider-Man.
"Sounds like a plan. I should get going, I'm needed back home in time." Spider-Man says to Bruce.
"Goodbye Spider-Man, I hope that we met again someday." Bruce says to Spider-Man.
"I hope so too, so long." Spider-Man jumps off the balcony and swings back home.
Sometime at midnight, Peter climbs back up into his bedroom, May is already asleep in her room. Peter is glad that Mary Jane covered for him as he was worried that he was going to explain himself to Aunt May why he's out so late.
He changes out of his suit and into his regular clothes to go to sleep in. He then noticed something on his desk, it's his camera that Ben gave him on his birthday.
"It's my camera, how did it get here?" Peter is curious how it ended up in his room.
Peter then sees a note below the camera as he reads it.
"Peter Parker, or do you prefer Spider-Man. Don't worry, I know who you are and I have no intention of revealing your secret. Rest assured that we managed to get the data on Ross from your phone, we'll keep Ross off yours and Banner's back. Just know that you have an ally looking out for you. We shall met one day when the time is right. Your secret ally, N.F."
"Who's N.F.?" Peter is curious about this secret ally.
Peter is getting curious as to who this secret ally is, whoever he is, he knows Peter is Spider-Man. Peter checks on his phone to see that the data he got from Ross's computer has been removed somehow. He's still not sure if this mystery man is an ally or an enemy, he still needs to be cautious as this guy knows his secret.
The next day back as Ross and his force returned back to the fort. He still recovering from the loss of his prize, but he's not too worried as he has other things on his mind. Colonel Talbot came into Ross's office to see the General.
"General, all the evidence from this operation has been wiped clean. We're in the clear for now." Talbot tells Ross.
"Good, even though we've lost the Hulk, we managed to get blood samples from him, enough for Project Abomination. We need to find a worthy candidate willing to be a part of something bigger." Ross is still continuing the project.
"I know just the guy." Talbot smiled as he has a candidate in mind.
Ross is still going forward with his plans to build a better soldier for the Army and his country.
A week later, somewhere in the Catskills Mountains, Bruce found a cabin to relax in peace. He hasn't gone Hulk in the past weeks since his team up with Spider-Man.
Bruce is cooking some dinner until he got a knock on his door. He went to check on who it is. He opened the door and sees someone he hasn't seen in a long time, some he missed dearly.
"Bruce?" Betty Ross's voice.
Bruce smiled as he's finally reunited with Betty Ross, his true love.
