Kagami smiled as she watched her clueless friends blush as they shook hands, awkwardly asking each other how they were. As entertaining as it was to watch them cluelessly run around in circles, she knew she needed to help them soon.
Sometimes she wished to just scream in Adrien's face that he likes Marinette but she had to be patient, plotting schemes for him to find out on his own.
Sure she loved, liked or dare she say ,used to like Adrien but things were different. It took her a while to figure it out but she realized Adrien had feelings for Marinette. Of which he didn't even know about.
It was in one of their dates, they bumped into Marinette and she saw all the signs. The way he stared at her when she wasn't looking, the way he always put Marinette before her. It sure was painful but there was no denying that they were made for one another. After all wasn't it opposites that attract?
They were both hopelessly in love and she needed to help them see it. She didn't break up with him so she could stay close and keep setting them up. Tonight was the night, she must achieve her goal.
It broke her heart to know that he would never look at her the way he looked at marinette, blush at her contact, smile at her awe, but she was happy that at least Marinette had what she couldn't get, if only they both weren't so clueless.
She rolled her eyes and walked closer to them to ease their tension, "Nice to see you're here." Marinette breathed in relief when she saw Kagami. Lately things have been seemingly awkward between her and Adrien she didn't know why, but the air was always thick with tension.
Tension of unsaid words. Since Adrien and Kagami had started dating, she tried to drop her feelings for him. She had tried with Luka... but her duties as Ladybug and the guardian screwed that up.
About the same time, she noticed Catnoir had been seemingly more distant with her. It hurt her but she couldn't say it because she he'd wonder why. She too had no reason why she was hurting.
Tikki said she was developing feelings for him. She wanted to deny it, she wished to. But with time, he drifted even further and he made no attempt to hide that he was staying away from her. Then she realized, she was having feelings for him.
It was too obvious. Even right then, she was on her toes because she was anxious to see him again. Today was their day. It had been officially one year since they had begun to save Paris and the Mayor had organized a celebration which they were all currently in.
She had a lot planned. She was gonna make him stay, talk, laugh and joke with her like they used to before heaven knows what. And also after the party, she had a surprise for him. But then there came Adrien in his well trimmed Tuxedo taking her breath away. How could two boys make her feel the same damn way? Green-eyed blondes it was then.
The party had gone a while without Ladybug or Catnoir showing up. Maybe he was waiting for her, she thought before slipping away heading to the bathroom.
Sprinting there, she bumped into the last person she'd have wanted to see. He didn't fall from the impact so he grabbed a hold of her hand as she was about to fall backwards. Pulling her forward, she lost herself in his gaze and tripped again. This time, pushing him to the ground with her. Her hands were splayed over on his chest and Adrien's secured around her waist.
They both exploded crimson and immediately jumped off in realization.
"Sorry, I...uh..."
"I didn't mean to..."
They both rambled incomprehensible things at the same time before residing to keep quiet. "Sorry..."
"No problem.."
They both blushed and turned to the door to their respective bathrooms which were right next to the other. They both realized they were in front of the wrong bathroom. They flushed, embarrassed before exchanging positions, brushing shoulders lightly.
"Sorry...so...um... later." She waved awkwardly.
"Later." His hand was on the door knob but his feet were immobile as he kept his gaze trained on the bluenette.
"Sure..."
"Sure..." She twisted the knob and entered quickly before things got any weirder. "Ugh... someone open a hole so I can crawl in and die."
Tikki giggled as she rested on the door. "Well hurry up and transform if you wanna see Catnoir."
She squeaked as her face painted a darker red. "Catnoir! I totally forgot. How am I gonna talk to him? What if he out rights walks away and doesn't speak to me at all."
"Calm down, Marinette. This is Catnoir we're talking about, he's in love with you." Tikki tried to help the overreacting teenager.
"Used to be, obviously. He doesn't even try to hide that, he probably hates me now." She groaned in her hands in utter despair. "C'mon...he was so in love with you. He doesn't hate you, maybe he wants to move on so you just have to show him that there's no need to."
Tikki always knew the right things to say and Marinette was glad to have her. If only she knew how accurate Tikki was. The little red Kwami had made a few meetups with Plagg and they both noticed their owners liking towards their other halves and both decided to help in whatever way they could.
"You're right." Marinette was determined again. She was gonna get her kitty back. "I guess it's time to bring the alter egos. Tikki spots on!"
"What is wrong with me, Plagg?" Adrien sighed in frustration as he entered the bathroom. He was supposed to be getting over Ladybug and growing his relationship with Kagami but instead he'd been feeling these weird things around Marinette. He was feeling things that he'd never felt around anyone before.
He placed his hand on his burning chest. The lightest contact with Marinette was always doing that to him.
"I don't know anything about human love but it doesn't take a genius to know you like her."
Adrien shook his head, denying what he knew was obvious, "No, she's just..she's just... A friend." He mumbled the last two words unsurely.
"Sure she is."
Adrien shook off the feeling and transformed. He knew it would be next to impossible to avoid Ladybug since it was literally a day for them but he still needed to keep his distance, the last thing he needed was for his feelings to resurface. What was it with him and bluenettes?
He went out the window and through the front. Ladybug was on already on the stage with the mayor. A crowd slowly surrounded him but he made his way to the stage too.
A brief talk, loads of questions from the pressing audience, tons of thank you gifts and finally they were alone.
It was awkward, they hadn't had any normal conversation in weeks aside akumas and patrols. He was trying his best to look away from her and she was nervous, close to biting her fingers.
She wanted to start a conversation but her brain came off empty. Since when did talking to her partner become so difficult. She took a breath, she had to do it, this was her chance.
"So...um.. Are..are you e-enjoying the party?"
He turned to her when she finally spoke up and saw her fiddling with her fingers. He subconsciously smiled, it was exactly the same thing Marinette did when she was nervous. "I'd say it's quite pawesome."
He flashed her a warm smile that made her cheeks burn. It'd been too long he smiled at her that way. Focus, Marinette! She scolded herself but her eyes slowly drifted to his lips. Not on those! She tried to compose her hyperactive insides.
Gathering her courage, she replied, "Back with the puns again, I see."
"I save only the best for you, M'la..um.. Ladybug." He corrected immediately and she flinched. It was obvious, she was no longer his lady. Was there someone else in his life? Had he fallen completely out of love for her? Was she too late?
"Everything okay?" He asked concerned at her sudden change in expression. "Yeah.." she hummed unconvincingly.
Another long awkward silence. "Should we..um..go have a snack?" He suggested trying to clear the air, he wasn't even sure what thickened it in the first place.
"You're only here for the food, aren't you?" He was relieved to see her brighten up again and they walked over to the dessert table and took some snacks.
"Quite a fan of macarons aren't we?" She teased as he munched on what she would assume was his tenth macaron. "Just the passion fruit." He picked up a croissant and munched, "And besides who can resist croissants?" He spoke in between chewing and Ladybug burst into giggles.
He was just too adorable with his mouthful and it was too much for her to handle. After a bit of talking, they watched people dance. After a few tracks, a slow song came in to play.
She began to fret. She wanted to ask him to dance but she was scared he'd refuse. Or that maybe he wouldn't like dancing. Or he probably will hate her dancing. Or what if..
"..dybug. Ladybug..."
"Oh sorry." She was pulled out if her short panic. "I..uh..asked if you wanted to dance?"
Problem solved. "I'd love to." She placed her hand in his outstretched hand and smiled sweetly at him. He slowly led her to the dancefloor. The rest of the world faded away to pink bubbles as his hands circled her waist. She timidly wrapped her hands around his neck.
They had barely begun to move to the music when they both heard a familiar voice.
"Have you seen Adrien and Marinette?" Kagami asked Ivan and Mylene who were also on the dancefloor but they nodded in negation like everyone else she asked. "Where are those two? She hissed lightly, a tad frustrated and walked away.
Ladybug and Catnoir simultaneously backed away from the other, scampering for excuses to leave. The last thing she wanted was for Kagami to think she was alone somewhere with Adrien. And neither did Adrien.
"You know what? I um..I had too much snacks, I.. I need to go make a pit stop." She awkwardly rubbed the back of her head.
He also seemed equally nervous, "Yeah I also need to do a thing." He lied and took a step back.
"Kay..So..um..later." She muttered under the soft music but didn't move. She feared that he'd go back to ignoring her if she walked away right then.
"Later.." His advanced hearing let him pick up her words clearly.
"Sure.."
"Sure.."
For a moment, neither of them moved, each staring intently in the other's eyes. Her heart was throbbing painfully in her chest and walking away never felt more difficult. Her face fell when he finally turned away to leave.
"Wait!" She called out before she could stop herself. He turned to her expectantly.
"I..uh..I w-wanted to tell you..um..I uh...Can we meet tonight? Just us, on, you know, our favorite spot. Say by 10?" Her heart was pounding wickedly in her chest as he was silent in thought.
Stupid! Stupid! Stupid! She mentally facepalmed. Why would he agree? "It's actually okay if you don't want to...It's not like you must...I'm just..uh.. suggesting because..um..you could still refuse if you don't want..it's..your choice." She rambled and lowered her face to hide her flushed cheeks.
Her face turned a deeper red when he suddenly walked closer. She looked up to see his lips twisted into a smile. "Just purrfeƧt." He took her hand and placed a kiss on the back of her hand. Her knees felt weak. "See you then, m'lady." He bowed and hurried away.
She let out a breath she didn't know she was holding and stood there staring into space for heaven knows how long. Maybe she was falling a bit harder than she thought. But the question was would he be there to catch her?
She eventually shook out of her trance and swung out of the building and in through the bathroom window. She de-transformed and rested on the wall, a dreamy sigh escaping her lips. Tikki giggled at her lovestruck expression. "Oh Tikki..."
"You really need to get your emotions under control, Marinette."
Another sigh, "I think I have some major crush on Catnoir."
"Crush? Seems more to me that you're in love." The Kwami zipped around her. "I don't know, I probably am."
