"Spots off!" She landed on her bed and de-transformed. "Feel better?"
"Yeah, I guess."
She took a quick shower and went down for dinner. "We didn't see you come in sweetie." Sabine said as they ate and she told them how she enjoyed the party.
She giggled and brushed it off, "I left earlier before you guys. I just spent a lot of time in the shower."
After dinner, her mind was settled and far from the earlier events of the evening. She pulled out her phone to check the time and screamed. "8? I have just two hours to get everything ready for Catnoir."
"Isn't two hours a lot?" Tikki asked confused. "Of course not." She sprinted to her closet. "Two hours isn't enough to make it perfect." She searched through the things, throwing them around, "Now where did I put that?" She muttered.
The other kwamis played around while some gave her confused looks but Tikki only shrugged, "You sure it's not a date?"
Hearing her words, Marinette tripped and fell on her face that was extremely red. "It's not a date!" She squeaked and stood up. "At least not yet." She murmured and her cheeks darkened before she continued her search.
Tikki could only giggle, to think that minutes ago, she had been freaking out from her almost kiss with Adrien.
"Aha!" She pulled out a wrapped gift and hugged it to her chest. "Now to set up the place." She took a bag, packed a few things that she needed. She packed a blanket, even a few snacks from the bakery. Croissants and passion fruit macarons only. They were his favorite from what he said earlier.
"And one last piece." She ran up the balcony and returned with two roses in her hand, a yellow and a red one.
"What are those?" Tikki wondered as she carefully placed then in a thin small mouthed pink vase.
"You know when I accept roses from Catnoir, I put them up in the balcony whenever I get back. This was from the time we went to New York." She gestured to the yellow rose. "And this..." She twisted the red rose by the stalk.
"It was the day he told me he was in love with me." Her voice reduced a monotone and she sighed sadly. "What's wrong, dear guardian?" Pollen and Tikki flew closer to comfort her.
"I just think...I think he doesn't love me anymore. What if there's someone else and I make a total fool of myself tonight?" She sobbed lightly and both kwamis hugged her cheeks. "Relax, Marinette. Everything will turn out great. Trust me."
She reluctantly nodded and put the red rose in the vase. "And now don't you have a date to plan?"
"Yes of course! Tikki spots on!" She took everything and jumped out of the balcony.
She landed on a roof next to Eiffel tower and de-transformed. It was their favorite point because the view of the city from there was breathtaking. She dropped the bag and begun arranging.
It took her a while but she was done with Tikki's help too.
"It's perfect." She gushed as she looked at her handwork. "What do you think, Tikki? Do you think he'd like it?"
"Obviously. It kind of looks like you want to ask him to marry you." Tikki giggled but Marinette exploded all shades of red. "You don't think it's too much? Ugh...he's gonna hate it for sure. And then he'll hate me even more and..."
"Calm down, Marinette." The little bug giggled, "I was only kidding, it's just perfect." Marinette let out a breath of relief she wasn't sure she was holding.
Why was she so nervous? This was her kitty, she'd had basic conversations with him. Except now, she was in love with him. She was in love with him, something she never believed was possible.
She groaned, "I just can't understand, I know I love Adrien but why do I feel these things?" Tikki flew into her outstretched arm, "How can I be in love with two different boys?"
"Adrien's with Kagami and you did reject his move on for Catnoir. It must mean something." Tikki tried to explain.
"Yeah...a move on me that he admitted was a mistake. If I don't tell Catnoir how I feel tonight, I might lose them both. I wish things were easier." She sighed but Tikki gave her a reassuring hug on her cheek.
"Forget everything else and focus on Catnoir tonight. It'll all work out in the end I promise." Marinette smiled, she had never been more grateful to have her Kwami, she always knew the right thing to say. "Thank you, Tikki."
"You're welcome, Ma.." She gurgled and bubbles erupted from her mouth. Before Marinette could question, she heard steps behind her.
She immediately panicked, "Close your eyes, Cat, I'm not transformed." She squeaked, not looking back in fear that he'd already seen her face.
"L-Ladybug?" He shut his eyes immediately but still couldn't help the small glance he took. He didn't see clearly but she had her hair in neat pigtails and she was in all pink. Whoever his lady was, she loved pink. And it reminded him...of Marinette. Just the thought of her made his heartbeat fasten.
"Yeah..it's me." She answered before calling her transformation words quietly, "That was too close." She whispered. She turned around and walked to him. His eyes were still tightly shut, his brows furrowed a bit and his lips in a thin smile. For a moment, she stood doing nothing but admiring his features.
"Ladybug? Can I..uh.. open my eyes now?" He pulled her out of her trance when he spoke. "Uh..no...just a second."
She carefully lit the tiny lanterns that surrounded the pink blanket spread out on the floor. The lanterns were in the shape of tiny Eiffel towers, she'd gotten a few of them from the party earlier. The place was illuminated with a soft yellow glow when she was done.
On the spread blanket was a wrapped gift, the vase with the flowers and some snacks. Around the blanket were rose petals and the tiny lanterns. "Perfect." She breathed.
He waited but wondered what she could've been doing. Maybe she was feeding her Kwami? Suddenly he felt her presence behind him and her hands over his eyes.
"Move forward. No peeking." She stood on her toes to whisper in his ears. A smile formed on his lips as he felt her warm breath. "When you said, let's meet tonight, I didn't think it was anything special." He followed her guide and walked forward.
"I'll have you know that I am full of surprises."
"I think I know that better than anyone, Ladybug."
"What happened to M'lady?"
He paused for a while then replied, "I didn't think you liked it."
Just then she pulled him to sit down, his eyes still closed. "Can I open my eyes now?"
"Yes.." She removed her hands and he looked around, taking the surrounding in. He blinked in surprise and his mouth hung open in surprise. He looked around again. The setting was soft and dare he say, romantic. The tiny lanterns surrounded them illuminating it like their own secluded haven. The glow on the petals made it all the more perfect.
Okay he definitely had to be dreaming. He looked over to her, she was smiling, sitting cross legged opposite from him.
"I'm dreaming, aren't I?"
She giggled, "No, but you can say I make a lot of dreams come true." He blinked again in disbelief, unable to speak again. She smiled sweetly at him, "Happy anniversary, kitty cat."
His chest tightened. Did she do all this for him? Just when he thought he'd choose Marinette, here she was making his heart to leap heights.
"L-Ladybug?"
She nodded in negation and took one of his hands in hers, "I..uh.. I'd like to..to be called your lady again." Her cheeks darkened and she lowered her gaze. "That is if you like. I don't want to force you or anything.."
He saw her flushed cheeks and his eyes trailed below to her lips, they were between her teeth. His heart caught in his throat, it was exactly how Marinette bit her lips. Her beautiful lips that he wanted to taste badly.
"M'lady." He whispered into the night, unsure of what to say. Their gazes connected for the moment and everything stilled around them.
"Do you..uh.. like it? You haven't said anything since"
"I'm just waiting to wake up from this dream. You know...like every other night." She blushed, "You're not dreaming."
"You can pinch me, it helps." She chuckled lightly, "You're not dreaming."
"So this is real?" She nodded. "And..uh..I.." she removed her hand from his hold. "I..uh..got you something." She reached for the wrapped gift and held it out to him.
Too much surprises for one night and he could barely handle it. "You...You didn't have to."
"I wanted to. Here, take it." She put it in his hands as he was still frozen from surprise. "T...Thank you, m'lady."
"You can open it later, I brought snacks, I wouldn't want them to get cold." She brought the small carry-out bag from the bakery with TS label on it and opened it.
"You go to the Dupain-Cheng bakery?" He asked as he saw the bag.
She giggled, how could she say her parents actually owned it? "I'm quite regular."
"I love their stuff." He reached into the bag and picked a croissant. "They're not the best bakers in Paris for nothing."
"What are you thinking about?" She asked as she noticed he was silent in thought. "It's just... anytime I walk into the bakery, I'll be wondering if you were there and keep my eyes peeled for any blue eyed bluenette...Oh wow... you look so much like their daughter." He suddenly said in realization making her internally panic.
It was almost uncanny how much they looked alike and it felt so familiar staring into her eyes that he paused just to keep staring into her eyes.
She blushed deeply as she realized he was staring at her. "W..Why are you staring at me like t-that?"
"Your eyes are beautiful." And the hue on her cheeks darkened, "Just like hers." And she thought she'd explode. Double compliment. If only he knew.
She lowered her gaze. "Did..Did I say that outloud?" He noticed her blush and prayed earnestly that he didn't. "Yeah.. didn't you mean it?"
"I did. I just didn't think I said it outloud cuz I'm sure you already know your eyes are beautiful. I was just saying but not like it's not beautiful every other day. It is along with the rest of you, I mean, you're always beautiful, your lips too..no I mean, your.. you're just entirely beautiful, that's the point." He couldn't believe he just said all that to her. He wanted the ground to open and swallow him.
She blinked in surprise after his rambling. His hands rubbed his neck shyly and he looked away but she could see his flushed cheeks. She wanted to cry in happiness.
He was still in love with her. He just rambled on how beautiful she was and he blushed, he was nervous. He was still in love with her.
"I think you're beautiful too." She blurted out without thinking before clasping her hands over her mouth.
"I mean, you're gorgeous..no.. hot..uh..I'll just stop talking." She looked away, her body hot from embarrassment. There was a short awkward silence as they continued eating. "I always knew you found me hot."
"Stop it!" She smacked him lightly and hid her reddened cheeks in her hands. He laughed and her heart beat sped. He hadn't laughed in a while, "Wow..." She muttered.
"What?"
"I didn't realize how much I missed hearing you laugh." Her new favorite sound. The sound she didn't mind hearing forever. She'd give anything to hear him laugh.
