They spent more time talking, occasionally saying unimaginable things to make the other blush.
The night was far spent and the stars raided the sky, it was a perfect night.
"Hmm... we're out of snacks. Too bad." She put the empty bag aside.
"Thank you. Those were my favorites."
"I know...you said it at the party, that's why I packed those." She admitted and he smiled. "Thank you."
"Don't. Just tell me you're having a good time." She insisted and he moved closer. He placed his hand on the side of her face, "Anytime with you is perfect."
And she was going to cry from happiness definitely, "You mean purrfeçt."
"Pretty clawver, m'lady." He smirked and she nodded in negation, giggling, "We're so not doing this."
"You love my puns, admit it!"
"You mean as much as I love your 'beautiful eyes', No way." She said sarcastically and they both laughed. Yeah that was the moment, they both felt complete.
"I missed you, you know. I missed this." She said and he retracted his hand as he realized they'd gotten too close. "I missed when you were close. Were you intentionally ignoring me?"
He could hear her strained voice and hung his head, "It's much more complicated than that. I wish I understood why."
She sighed sadly, she should've known. "It's okay. You can say it if you don't have fe.."
"Shh..." He placed a finger in her lips. "Let's not talk about this. Let's enjoy our time together, Kay?" She nodded like an obedient puppy and he smiled.
"So what do you want to do next?" She shrugged. "Take a stroll? A swim? Wanna go ice-skating? Shopping? Get ice cream?"
She cocked her head to the side and laughed, "It's almost midnight. The pools, supermarkets and the ice rink won't be open."
"That's why we're superheroes." He winked and she nodded bashfully. "It doesn't mean we should break into private properties."
"Come on, bugaboo." He pouted. "Please..." If only he knew what his single pout was doing to her. "Aww...stop.." she whined and looked away from him.
"Stop what?" He laughed.
"Being so adorable." They both blushed and looked away. "I prefer to be called hot for the record." And he earned another smack from her. "Stop it." He loved seeing her blush and he wanted to see it over and over again.
So he most definitely wasn't stopping.
He stood up and stretched out his hand for her to take. "Come on."
"Where are we going?" She took his hand and he pulled her up with a force that made her crash into his chest. Hard. Her cheeks bloomed red again. "Everywhere." He whispered, his breath over all her face.
Her eyes trailed to his lips, she wanted to lean in but she didn't have the courage. He stared deep in her eyes, tilting his head like he was going to lean in but he backed away.
She hid her disappointment with a half smile. "Okay."
She was taken by surprise when he placed his hands under her knees and lifted her up. She squeaked and wrapped her hands instinctively around his neck as he carried her bridal style.
"Not that I'm complaining, but I have a magical yoyo."
"And risk you using your 'beautiful hands and legs' No way." She laughed, laughed so hard that her stomach hurt. She threw her head back and then rested it in the crook of his neck, laughing even more.
Her breath tickled his skin and made him weak to the knees.
"M'lady..." He called subconsciously and she looked up at him. Now their faces were close. Really close. And she wanted nothing more than for him to lean in and close the distance. She wanted him to kiss her, she was to scared of rejection to initiate it.
He looked at her and she saw an emotion she couldn't decipher and she thought he would lean in. But he backed up and smiled, "So..hold on tight..."
"Without letting go." She whispered and leaned into him. Wafting his scent. Yeah...that was her favorite moment. Except...
"You eat camembert?" She asked as he launched them into the sky. He laughed softly, "Of course not, Plagg does."
"Hmm..makes more sense." She murmured as the wind continued to whip against her face lightly.
True to his words, they did swim with their aqua suits, chased each other, bumped into each other and almost kissed but he backed away. And then they did a shopping spree after which they returned everything they put in the cart, then had a moment where they almost kissed. Again. He withdrew.
She felt it was intentional, scratch that, she knew it was intentional. But she didn't want anything ruining her mood, spending time with him was more than enough. He loved her, he couldn't have completely forgotten those feelings, she'd make him fall in love with her all over again. And she was determined.
And that was why they were ice-skating and he was twirling her around and she was loving it. He gestured her to run and jump into his arms but she nodded in negation.
"Come on, I'll catch you." She finally gave in and gave him a distance so she could launch herself properly. "Okay you ready?"
"Always!" He stretched out his arms excited and pumped. "Okay, one, two, go!" She skated fast and got ready to launch then he realized he was not in the right position.
"Wait a minute! Wait a minute! I'm not ready!"
Crash! They both ended up on the floor after a failed attempt. She was on top of him and his hands were on her waist. "You said you could catch."
"I wasn't ready." They both laughed and she smacked him harder.
"I see you're trying to break my 'beautiful' bones." She reiterated and bopped his nose. "And you're trying to crush mine." She huffed and climbed off him. He stretched his hand out so she could help him. She pulled him up.
"Anything broken?" She asked.
"You mean aside my 'beautiful' dignity? None." They both laughed again. It didn't matter how late it was. The only thing that mattered was that they with each other and she loved every second of it.
"Let's try again. Please, please... please... please..." He pouted and hugged from behind. She shook her head. "C'mon... bugaboo... please..."
"I told you to stop being so adorable."
"I still prefer to be called hot." He twirled her around and opened his arms to catch. "C'mon, I'll catch you, trust me."
A long moment of persuasion later, they both took position. "Relax, your beautiful body is safe in my arms." Now she blushed furiously making him smirk.
She skated fast building up the speed slowly then launched herself and he caught her by the waist and lifted her up, spinning her around. She giggled endlessly and he would've given anything to keep hearing that sound.
He was about to drop her but she wrapped her legs around his torso. "My 'beautiful' legs don't wish to touch the floor." She dramatically spoke and he chuckled securing his hand on her waist to hold her properly.
"As her 'beautiful' majesty wishes." He played along.
She put her arms around his neck, "Okay this really needs to stop." She laughed.
"You're right, beautiful is merely enough to describe you, you're perfect." She rested her forehead on his as her cheeks blushed red. "I'm not perfect, kitty. You know that."
"You are to me." He didn't let his gaze linger from her. And she sure as hell knew that his words were no joke. "You're completely perfect to me."
And now she had the upper hand so she rested one of her hands on his cheek and leaned in, tilting her head. "Too perfect." He closed his eyes as he lost control of his better thinking. She fluttered her eyes close and leaned in all the way till their lips touched.
It felt so familiar. So familiar that he forgot who he was having the moment with. He pressed his lips to hers and she wasted no time to respond but to her dismay, he pulled away just a second after.
She was barely able to catch her breath and her heart was pounding against her ribcage. "Why did you-" Her words muffled as he took her lips in his again but lasting only a second more. She was getting frustrated. He tasted like everything she dreamed of but he wasn't letting her cherish the feeling.
"Cat.." And he did it again, "Stop.." And again making her knees tremble. The teasing was too much for her to handle and she was barely breathing. He placed a kiss on her jawline, "I love you." He mumbled against her skin.
Tears formed in her eyes hearing his words and the moment he joined their lips, she didn't let him pull away. Tingles traveled throughout her whole body as he moved his lips against hers and she felt her heart burst in happiness all over again. The kiss ended too soon and she rested her forehead on his out of breath.
"Me too." She whispered back under her breath. Their eyes were still tightly shut as they stayed that way for a while. He leaned in again, "You drive me crazy, Marinette."
Her body stiffened and she withdrew, "W..What‽" She panicked, he just called her by her real name.
"W...What..did you just call me?" She unwrapped her legs from around him and her withdrawal brought him back to reality.
Realization washed over him. What had he done? He just kissed Ladybug. He just kissed her. What had come over him? She just reminded him so much of Marinette that he just lost it.
"What...What did you call me?" She repeated seeing as he didn't answer. He looked away. Had he called her Marinette? How could he confuse Marinette with Ladybug? "I..uh..I.." He wanted to say something but he didn't know the words to say.
He hung his head, "I'm so sorry, Ladybug, this...this shouldn't have happened."
And that was all it took to shatter her heart. The tears spilled from her eyes. She turned away and hugged herself. "Yeah..we should probably go back." She walked away without looking back at him. And it went back to awkward from lovers.
But one question lingered in the back of her mind. Why had he called her Marinette? She brushed it off, there were lots of people by the name Marinette, for all she knew it may have been someone else. Someone who he was now in love with. She let the tears flow down and cried when she was sure he was out of hearing range.
Without waiting for him, she swung away and went back to the rooftop they'd been on before. She dropped to her knees, buried her face in her hands and cried even harder. She was too late, he was in love with someone else. All that for nothing.
He dropped on the roof and saw her. She was crying and although he knew it was his fault, he had no idea why she was crying. He lowered himself next to her and placed a hand on her shoulder making her look up at him.
His heart quickened, even with her tearstained cheeks, she was still beautiful. "I.. I'm really very sorry."
She nodded in negation continuously and he watched her confused on her reaction.
"There's someone else, isn't there?"
"What?" He was taken aback by her question.
"You don't love me anymore." She choked out and removed his hand on her shoulder and stood turning away from him.
"It's not that." He also stood up but kept the distance. "It's much more complicated."
"Yeah.." He could hear the sarcasm in her reply. "It obviously is." She hugged herself and tried to stop her tears but they wouldn't stop. How stupid could she be? Obviously he couldn't love her anymore. Not after the number of times she'd rejected him.
"She's the reason you've been avoiding me, isn't she?" She didn't need his reply, his silence spoke greater volumes and it hurt her even more, the dull ache in her chest worsening. "It's late, you should go, I'll clear up my stuff."
Okay now he was just confused. She rejected him for almost a year and now she knows he's in love with someone else and she's upset? He held her hand and turned her to face him.
"I don't get it, Why are you upset? Isn't this what you've always wanted? To get me off your tail?"
"Yeah and I'm happy for you. Just don't kiss other girls you don't like and raise their hopes up then call it a mistake." She locked gazes with him and spoke firmly and he could feel the sarcasm dripping from her words. She removed her hand from his grip and turned away.
"I still don't get it. Why are you so upset about this? I already said I'm sorry for kissing you, it was a mistake." He didn't understand that he was only hurting her more and she broke into more tears. "Why am I upset? Yeah... Kissing people and calling it a mistake is totally okay."
"Can you just drop the sarcasm?" He was frustrated. He wanted to know what he did wrong but she wasn't being direct and complicating things.
"Just go, Catnoir. Please just leave."
"No, tell me what I did wrong?"
"What you did wrong? You want to know what you did wrong? You let me believe that you actually felt something for me. But it was all a lie. You never even loved me, did you?" She turned to him letting her hurt materialize into anger.
"Of course, I did. How could you say that? You're the one who rejected me over and over again."
"If you really did love me, you'd have never stopped." She choked out. "I never said I did." He argued back and let out a sarcastic yeah again. "You obviously didn't." She turned away and wanted to leave. She was sick of it all. She wanted to cry on her bed till she felt good again.
"Why would it even matter to you if I moved on?"
She snapped back at his question, "Isn't it obvious?"
"N-"
"I'm in love with you." And after uttering the words, she broke into tears again and cried in her hands.
