Dear Dairy

Well, here's a first, I got jealous, of another woman in Jack's life.

It was a murder at an Italian restaurant, Jack seemed rather familiar with one of the families involved and he was rather cagey. He said he wanted to keep me out of the case because there may be a link to the Camorra.

Then at the rival restaurant, Strano's the dead woman's son in law tried to kill one of the Strano family, it was all rather loud!

Jack called a truce between the warring families, he got rather ... masterful ... I've never seen him like that.

I decided to see if I could get anything out of a woman, Concetta Fabrizi, Jack had tried to find out who killed her husband – apparently gunned down in front of at least 10 witnesses and nobody saw a thing. I think I quite like Concetta in spite of her obvious deep feelings for Jack.

A little breaking and entering, well not exactly breaking, I used my lockpick, into the dead woman's kitchen gave me a few bits of information and a few bruises though the person who attacked me got a knife wound to the upper arm.

I managed to talk to Guido, the son in law, he showed me some pictures of his wife but I learnt nothing new except that the victim (Nona Luisa) was bitter and had no love for anyone.

This case was rather dangerous, when the Italians are riled they shoot first and ask questions later, if you live. I was shot at down at the docks, where I was told the fight started with tomatoes! And I met a high ranking man of the Camorra, Roberto Salvatore – shall we say I shall not be inviting him to dinner.

Jack and I were blocked whichever way we turned, the heads of each family, at the funeral there was so much glaring going on between the families and when Salvatore arrived and kissed Concetta's father's ring we then knew that Antonio Strano was the head of the Camorra.

Nona Luisa's granddaughter, Marianna, was seeing the son from the Strano family, another bone of contention – they say Italians are passionate – passionate in everything, love, food, hate ... even to the point of marrying Concetta to Salvatore, dear heaven the poor woman was being used as a bargaining chip, but this passion was blistering!

Of course we got the man, the murderer, or the murderers, Nona Luisa was poisoned (by Mrainna because she was going to send her to Italy to get her away from the Strano boy, Vincenzo) and strangled (by Vincenzo), Concetta's husband was killed by the man her father was planning to marry her off to, paid for by Nona Luisa and I got to be Jack's wingman.

Jack came to see me at the end, with a bottle of wine – the restaurant is closed, Concetta, I hope, is free from the control of her father.
