Tohru Honda is not a clingy person. Well, she knows she is in some ways, honestly, but she tries really hard not to be. But Kyo taught her how to be selfish and now, when it comes to him, she is. Almost all the time, in fact.
She knows other people are attracted to him. She's not blind. She sees the stares he gets, and knows that he has his own little fanclub (though they're much quieter than Yuki's). She's not 100% sure he knows all of this, though.
He's hyper-aware of any guy that may be interested in Tohru—if someone so much as looks at her weird, his possessive side comes out. The first time she saw this, she had been standing in the hallway talking about the upcoming graduation with a classmate that had approached her. The boy seemed nice enough. He was standing a little close for comfort, but Tohru hadn't thought much of it. That is, until Kyo had come up behind her, grabbed her hand, and started dragging her off.
"K-Kyo-kun! I can't leave without saying goodbye," she'd protested.
"Yes you can. He likes you."
She'd glanced back over her shoulder at the boy, who was left alone in the hall, scratching at the back of his neck and staring at the floor awkwardly. "How do you—?"
"I'm a guy, too, Tohru. I just know."
So maybe gender has everything to do with why Kyo doesn't know other girls fawn over him. He's a guy, so he understands the intentions of other guys better than he does that of girls. But that also means that Tohru understands girls, and she definitely knows when one is flirting with her boyfriend.
She tries not to show her possessiveness outwardly, usually keeps quiet about when a girl goes after him (which is much more often than she'd like), because she has complete confidence that if anything were to start going too far, he'd shut it down immediately. But the thing is, she fought for Kyo. No one truly understands what she went through trying to save his life, then trying to make him hers. She's earned this, earned him, and despite her general lack of self-confidence, she knows it.
So really, if she could put a giant, flashing neon sign over his head that said "MINE," she would.
She can't, of course. And she can't always be there to try and fend off other girls, either...not that she does much fending off when she is there, anyway—most girls just keep going right in front of her, like she won't notice. It makes her feel insecure. She's not attractive or sexy. Cute, yes. Conventionally attractive? Maybe. But there's nothing alluring about her, she knows. Surely everyone else sees that, too. So why wouldn't other girls flirt with Kyo, really? There are a lot of really attractive women at their school, and he deserves someone stunning, someone who matches his good figure and looks, if that's what he decides he wants. No matter how much she loves him, how much she's earned him, she can't take away his right to choose.
But yet, every day he continues to choose her, for some reason. Every morning, he wakes up next to her and presses kisses to her cheeks. Every night, he eats dinner at her side, then crawls into her bed to hold her while they sleep. He's proven that he wants her, that he loves her.
So Tohru tries to keep her possessive streak in-check, because it would be ridiculous to be jealous.
But today…
Well, this girl is really asking for it, to say the least.
She's standing next to Kyo, one arm brushing against his, the other hand twirling her long black hair around her index finger. She's talking, and while Tohru can't hear her from her place across the hall, she can see the way the girl bites her lip, tilts her head to the side, and nudges Kyo's elbow, trying to draw his attention in.
He's having none of it. He's looking around the hallway, probably searching for Tohru, who'd gone off to the bathroom a few minutes ago. Every once in a while, he glances at the girl briefly, looking confused about why she's still there.
Tohru takes a deep breath to steady herself. It's fine. It's fine. Kyo would never accept any advances. He probably doesn't even know what the heck is going on. And that shows in the way that his entire face lights up like a puppy's when he finally sees Tohru down the hall. He pushes his back off the wall and starts to make his way over to her, but the girl springs up, too. She grabs his hand, letting out a, "Hey, wait."
No.
No way.
Kyo quickly rips his hand out of her grip, giving her a weird look, but before he can say anything, Tohru's by his side.
"Hi, Kyo-kun," she chirps, doing her best to keep her tone bright. He smiles down at her, eyes so full of love that it makes her feel guilty for being so possessive and jealous and selfish. But the guilt isn't quite enough to stop her.
"Hey, you," he says back, slipping an arm around her waist. Tohru turns back to the girl.
"You're Ayazaki-san, right? I think you're in my math class."
Tohru hates to think it, but the look of pure horror and embarrassment on Ayazaki's face is so satisfying.
"O-oh...that's right. Nice to see you, Honda-san."
"Mm. Are you and Kyo-kun friends?"
"No," Kyo says immediately. Ayazaki shakes her head, awkwardly agreeing.
"Then why are you talking to my boyfriend?" Tohru asks. Her voice sounds sweet and innocent by nature, and she's sure that contradicts the biting words she's just uttered, but she honestly doesn't care. She feels Kyo's arm tighten around her waist, and he turns her around and walks her away. They turn a corner and stop, out of Ayazaki's sight and ear-shot.
"Tohru…" he says softly. He sounds surprised. Shocked is probably a better word for it, actually. He's worried about her—she can tell, and it makes her gut churn with even more shame than before.
"Let's just go home, okay?" she asks quietly. He nods, and she heads to the exit with him trailing behind her.
Now that everything's said and done, she's embarrassed. She thought getting that girl away from Kyo would make her feel better, but she just feels like an idiot.
She doesn't want to hold hands on the way home, like she usually does. He doesn't try to initiate it, either, instead opting to stay a few steps behind her as she keeps up a brisk pace. By the time they get home, she's slightly out of breath from speed walking the entire way.
They take off their shoes in silence, Tohru's sense of inner-humiliation increasing the whole time. Then it bursts. "Are you mad at me?" she asks.
Kyo looks up from his spot on the genkan floor, lining his shoes up with the other pairs before standing. "No, of course not."
It's a simple statement, only four words. It doesn't really key her in on what he is feeling, but all she can hear in this moment is what he said to her months ago—words whispered against a sheet on the balcony at sunset.
You won't scare me off.
This isn't the end of their relationship. Her jealousy won't wreck them. He's seen far uglier parts of her and stuck around, after all.
She sighs, her shoulders finally relaxing a bit. At least that part is taken care of. Still, though...she doesn't feel completely better.
Kyo opens his mouth to keep talking, but she lunges at him, fisting her hand in his uniform shirt and giving him a push until his back is against the wall. She captures his lips with her own, their tongues meeting instantly. Kyo lets out a soft moan as they continue to work their mouths against each other's, a noise that she can tell is two parts arousal and one part surprise at her sudden change in mood.
When they break apart to breathe, Kyo puts his hands on her hips, keeping her close. "Tohru, what's wrong?"
Tohru doesn't answer. Her eyes are level with his collar bone. His chest is rising and falling in an unpredictable pattern as he tries to catch his breath, and she's drawn in by the movement of his body. She feels a sudden urge, an odd one that she doesn't quite know how to describe, and she impulsively acts on it—she leans in and sinks her teeth into the soft flesh of his throat.
"Holy shit," Kyo blurts with a groan, squeezing her hips. She soothes the throbbing skin with a swipe of her tongue, and then moves her lips higher, biting him again. When she pulls back a bit, she sees two patches of red along Kyo's neck, and she's never felt so sated, yet also so reckless before.
There's her neon sign.
"Wait. Talk to me," he says, breaking her out of her trance.
Tohru takes a second to collect her thoughts, her mind clouded by adrenaline and lust now. She shouldn't say it, should she? It's irrational to feel this way. There's no point. But…
She takes a deep breath, and before she can change her mind, blurts, "She was flirting with you."
"Ayazaki? W-well...yeah, a bit." So he does know. "But I wasn't flirting back. I would never. You know that, right?"
She sighs and chews at her lower lip anxiously. "I know."
"Then…?"
"But you're mine."
He blinks a couple times, looking a little taken aback by that. "I know."
"But she didn't."
"Of course she did. Everyone knows we're together by now. She was just being a bitch."
That doesn't make her feel much better. She leans forward, resting her forehead against Kyo's chest. He rubs circles against the small of her back.
"The whole time she was talking, all I could think about was you," he adds.
"Really?"
"'Course. Do you want to hear me say it? Would that help?"
"Well...m-maybe…"
He leans down and puts a finger under her chin, tilting her face up toward his. She meets his eyes and instantly melts under his molten gaze. "I'm yours, Tohru. Only yours, for the rest of our lives. I don't give a fuck about any other girl."
The way he says it makes it so that she can't think—she can only feel. She feels vindicated, loved, and honestly a bit turned on at hearing him explicitly say that he belongs to her. She can't properly process it all. "Promise?" she squeaks.
He chuckles at the crack in her voice. "I'll never talk to another girl again, if that'll make you feel better."
She laughs. "That's not really possible, Kyo-kun."
He smiles and moves his finger to her cheek. He runs it up and down along her cheekbone. "Do you feel like that a lot? Like someone's trying to steal me away from you?"
She looks away, face flooding with color.
"Why haven't you ever told me?" he asks.
"Because...it's stupid, isn't it?" she mumbles.
"Nah, it's not. I'm glad that you love me so much. And you can be possessive of me anytime. I like it."
"O-okay…"
Kyo kisses the top of her head once. "I get possessive over you, too, ya know."
She giggles a bit, but quickly silences herself to avoid seeming rude. "I know. You make it pretty obvious."
He blushes. "Oh…"
"Don't worry—I like it, too."
"Good," he says, reaching out and booping her nose with his finger, "'cause you're mine."
She nods. "And you're mine." He hums in confirmation.
"And…" Tohru adds, looking at his neck and cringing a little. It's really red, and now that she's calmed down, she's realizing that marking him wasn't a good thing to do without permission. "I think everyone's really going to know it now. Sorry."
He shakes his head, laughing. "That's okay."
"People will probably stare."
"So let 'em. I don't care if everyone sees that you left marks on me. And besides…" He lowers his lips close to her ear. "It was really hot. I think you should do it more often." She feels herself shudder at the huskiness in his voice.
"W-well...I can right now, if you really want."
"I really do. But we should go upstairs first."
"I'll race you. Last one there has to do the dishes tonight," she teases, already running for the stairs.
His long legs help him catch up in an instant, and he scoops her up, slinging her over his shoulder as she squeals in surprise. "How about we just spend all night in bed and let Shigure and Yuki take care of their own dinner and dishes?"
"Mm...that sounds a lot better."
"Good. Agreed." He reaches up with his free hand and pinches her rear playfully, making her gasp, then takes the steps two at a time.
A/N: See, what did I tell ya—I'm already a day behind lmao. I honestly really struggled with this prompt. I had a 4k word fic done for it last night, but couldn't bring myself to post it because I honestly hated it. So I tried something different and got this, which I'm more satisfied about. Hope you enjoyed.
