Two days later, Winry and Edward were walking through Central, and Edward guided them to a nearby park that had a small pond and benches. They sat on a bench and watched a few ducks swim. "So how long are you going to be in Central for?" Winry asked him.
"Well, Mustang's putting me to work here for now so it might be a while. I'm helping them train the alchemists," Edward replied.
"So are you coming home?" Winry asked worriedly.
"Not for a while. Mustang is signing my paychecks. Even though I am not doing my original research, it's nice to have a steady income," Edward knew she would be upset so he had avoided bringing it up.
"Well, what's going to happen after we're married?" Winry asked a little frustrated.
"Win, I have to work. I can't do anything at home right now," Edward sighed. Winry furrowed her eyebrows and sat quietly pondering a solution.
"What if I move to Central? I can open up my own shop up here, and I can help the soldiers that come home." Winry said.
"Are you sure about that? I don't want you uprooting your whole life." Edward said.
"But Edward, when we're married, I want to live with my husband." Edward started feeling guilty.
"Ed, I can help more people up here. And I already have a few friends. So, I think it'll be a good business move." Winry said proudly.
Edward smiled at her. He hugged her. He couldn't believe she would move to Central to be with him. "You just made me very happy."
"So it's settled. We can look for a place after our honeymoon." Winry said. They let go of their embrace and held hands.
Edward and Winry watched a few children play around the pond. Without turning to her, Edward asked "You want kids, right?"
"Yeah, definitely. Do you?" "Of course I do. I just wanted to make sure." Edward said.
Winry rubbed his hand with her thumb and asked "When you do want children?"
"Oh umm… well, you have to carry them. But I would prefer sooner rather than later," he admitted.
Winry looked at him "Soon, huh? Should we start on our honeymoon? Or is that too soon?"
Edward reddened. "No, it's fine."
"How about we just see what naturally happens on our honeymoon? We won't even bother packing the condoms." Winry giggled because Edward was still red.
"Yeah okay." He agreed.
Two months later…
Winry was upstairs in the Armstrong mansion along with Riza and Paninya, whom were helping her get her wedding dress on. Charlotte Armstrong was helping to put on Winry's makeup, who was starting to feel like a doll being played with by little girls. When the ladies put the final touches on Winry's hair and makeup, they stood back in awe. Winry got up and looked at herself in the mirror. She didn't recognize herself. She thought she was looking at a stranger but she smiled.
"I'll go see if the men are ready." Charlotte left them because she knew her way around the mansion.
"I hope she comes back. We'll get lost if we try to find our way out! This place is huge!" Paninya exclaimed.
"Yes, it is. Major Armstrong insisted we get married here. It's convenient for a lot of Ed's military friends." Plus, they had to move up the wedding date to make sure everyone could attend. It was getting more intense at the border with Amestris putting up a good defense. Soon more soldiers would be called to action. Winry shook the sad thoughts of their friends leaving for war. 'This is my wedding day. I'm supposed to be happy,' she thought.
Riza seemed to read her mind, and tried to diverge her thoughts. "I'm glad you did. It's a beautiful place for you two to get married."
"The men are heading down there. It's almost show time," Charlotte said excitedly. She escorted Winry, Riza, and Paninya downstairs. Garfiel met her just before the doors to go outside.
"Winry, honey, you look gorgeous." He kissed her lightly on the cheek.
"Thank you, and thank you again for escorting me down the aisle," Winry replied.
"Of course. Are you ready?" He held out his arm and she took it. They listened to the music, and Riza and Paninya walk down the aisle. Elysia went down the aisle and dropped flower petals on to the aisle. Then it was finally their turn. They made their way outside, and walked slowly down the aisle. She saw Edward, and their eyes locked on each other, even through Winry's veil. His eyes had grown wide.
'She's absolutely gorgeous,' he thought. He remembered to breathe. They heard Garfiel and Granny give their blessing to give Winry to Edward. They took each other's hands, and repeated the vows to each other that the officiate gave. Winry knew that Edward would have a hard time saying their own vows so she opted to keep it simple for him. They exchanged rings, and the officiate announced that they were married.
"Edward, you may now kiss your bride." He lifted her veil.
'Okay, just pretend no one else is here' Edward thought, trying not to focus on the crowd but on his bride. He leaned down, and she met him halfway. He was going to give a simple kiss but Winry wrapped her arms around him, and deepened the kiss, which brought lots of shouts and clapping from their guests. He was surprised but relaxed into it. She let go, and they walked down the aisle followed by their wedding party.
Edward and Winry had their pictures taken with the wedding party, and joined the reception shortly after. They found Elysia with her mom looking at the garden. Winry called her over. "Elysia, come get a picture with me and Ed."
'Another picture! I'm starving!' Edward thought but he saw how happy the two girls were. He also remembered Hughes, and how he had said that Winry would be a good wife. He picked up Elysia, and they got a picture together. 'He was right.' He smiled at Winry.
"What are you thinking?" she asked.
"Nothing, just remembering what someone said." Winry gave him a suspicious look but Ed's stomach growled. She giggled at him.
"Let's go eat." She said. They walked arms linked together.
After the meal and cake, the dancing began. Edward and Winry had to start. They swayed side to side with Edward twirling every now and then until others joined in. It was a great party and time slipped by. "Winry, you need to throw the bouquet!" Charlotte insisted. The single ladies gathered on the floor. Winry threw it backwards hard, and it landed right in Mei's arms who was standing in the back.
"What does this mean? We don't have this tradition at home." Mei asked.
Garfiel filled her in. "Honey, it means you're next to get married." She squealed with delight.
Al brought out a chair for Winry, and she sat in it. Edward kneeled in front of her. "It's on the left," she told him. He grinned evilly at her, and dashed under her dress. She squeaked in surprise. Then she turned red when he kissed her on the inner thigh, and grabbed the garter with his teeth, and slipped it down her leg. He emerged with the garter in his teeth. The guys cheered for him except for one. "What the hell was that for?" Winry asked embarrassed.
"Relax, I just won us some extra cash for our trip." Roy shook his head. He had lost some money and pride.
Winry shook her head in disappointment. 'I chose to marry him.'
Edward got ready to throw the garter. Mei sensed that this was the same tradition for the men, which Riza confirmed. 'I hope Alphonse catches it then maybe one day…' Edward threw it over his shoulder, and it landed on Roy's head. The guys patted him on the back and teased him. Riza was amused by this.
After getting his money from Roy, Edward saw a couple he knew, and grabbed Winry's arm. "Come with me. I want you to meet someone."
"Oh okay." Winry let Edward guide her to the couple he saw. A woman with braids in her hair, and a large man came up to them.
"Teacher, you made it!" Edward said as they approached them.
"Of course. We wouldn't miss this," Izumi said.
"Winry, this is my teacher, Izumi, and her husband, Sig."
Sig shook Winry's hand. "It's a pleasure to meet you, young lady." He looked intimidating but he was actually really nice.
"It's nice to meet you. Edward's told me so much about you."
Izumi piped in. "I hope it was all good things." Edward gulped.
"Of course it was," Winry said with a large happy smile on her face. The last thing she needed was for her husband to get punched. They spoke about the wedding, and where they were heading for their honeymoon.
"We leave tomorrow to go down by the sea in Aerugo since they have claimed neutrality," Edward told them. Izumi looked concerned.
"Just be safe," Izumi told the young couple.
"We will. We can handle ourselves," Edward told them but he didn't really reassure them.
Finally it was the end of the night. Edward had put their bags in a car that was going to take him to their hotel for their wedding night. He found Winry. "You ready to go?"
"Yeah, let me just say goodbye to Grandma." Edward followed his wife until they found her. "Grandma, we're about to leave." Winry bent down and hugged her.
"Have a good trip. I'll see you in 2 weeks." She turned towards Edward. "Take care of her, pipsqueak. Bring her home safe and sound."
Edward looked annoyed at his nickname but softened his gaze. "I promise I will Granny." He knew he wasn't short anymore. Charlotte gathered everyone to form an aisle. Edward and Winry ran down it and got in the back of the car. They wave goodbye, and the driver drove off.
