Obviously I don't own these characters but I love writing about them.
Edward and Alphonse were in their tent reading their letters that they had just received. Edward's face went from excited to frustrated to furious while reading a letter from his pregnant wife. "What the fuck?!" Edward yelled causing Alphonse to glance up.
"What's wrong?" Al asked. Edward didn't speak until he finished reading.
"I can't believe this. They made her travel in her condition!" Edward yelled and handed the letter to Al so he could read it.
Dearest husband,
I was so grateful to receive your last letter. It was a long time between the last two letters so I was starting to worry. I know you are busy but I still get worried.
Granny and I just returned from Central. About two weeks ago, I received a letter to draft me for the military to help with medical care. They wouldn't take a note from our town doctor so I had to report to Central. Granny came with me and we stayed with the Hughes. The military doctor was very kind and examined me and obviously found that I was not fit for service. It's pretty obvious now that I'm seven months along. The doctor also signed off on my request for family aid. We will have to use the aid to hire an assistant while I am taking care of a newborn.
After we were done with the military office, we made the most of our trip. The Hughes and I went shopping for the baby. It was exciting. It makes it feel more real. Even though I have grown in size, it's still hard to believe.
Enclosed is a picture. Mrs. Hughes took it in front of her house. She said you might want to see how much I've grown.
I love you,
Winry
Al finished reading. "So they're drafting women now," Al commented as he handed the letter back to Edward.
Edward was still frustrated. His wife didn't need this kind of stress. He looked at the picture that she sent him. She looked happy even though she had grown in size. She had always been thin but to see her in this state. It was hard to believe that it wasn't a pillow stuffed under her shirt.
Edward took the picture and stuffed it into a pocket on the inside of his coat. He left the tent and went to show it to Riza Hawkeye. He went to her tent but she wasn't there so he went to the larger tent that they used for meetings. He found Mustang and Hawkeye there. He came in and offered the photo to Hawkeye to look at.
Hawkeye and Mustang looked at the photo. Hawkeye commented "She looks wonderful. Wait, is this the Hughes home?".
"Yeah, Winry had to report to Central because she was drafted," Edward answered, still frustrated.
Mustang was surprised. "Seriously? I didn't know they were starting to draft women."
"Well, she has medical skills so they were planning on using her as a medic or nurse," Edward answered.
Hawkeye sighed. "Did she make it back home?"
"Yeah, the military doctor found her unfit for service due to being pregnant," Edward said as he sat.
Hawkeye put her hand on his shoulder. "At least she is back home safe. She won't have to come out here."
Edward hadn't thought about it in that way. If Winry hadn't been pregnant, then she may have ended up on the frontlines treating soldiers injuries with the possibility of her getting injured herself. "Yeah, I guess so. She can stay safe at home," Edward said. Mustang and Hawkeye agreed.
