A week after Edward arrived home, Winry and Granny had just finished tuning a client's arm. Granny saw Edward when she came upstairs with Winry and asked them a favor. "I need you two to go into the attic and bring down the yellow chest." They both agreed to help.
Edward and Winry climbed into the attic. They searched around and found a large yellow chest. Edward picked it up. "It's not that heavy. I wonder what's in it." Edward went down the stairs, and Winry lowered the chest into his arms.
After they came down the attic stairs, Granny met them. "Bring it into Winry's room. It's been a long time since I've seen the contents," Granny told them.
Edward brought the chest into Winry's room, and Granny began to open it. "Since you and Edward are planning on getting married, I wanted to give you this. It's your mother's wedding dress, and a few other things that she owned," Granny informed them. Winry pulled out the dress and held it up so she could see it in full. The tears began to build up. Granny spoke "Now you don't have to wear it but I wanted to give you the option."
"I'm wearing it!" Winry cried out. She clung the dress to her, somehow feeling closer to her mother by doing so. Edward still wasn't great with handling these kinds of emotions but he put his hand on the top of her head. He knew that she was missing her parents more because he was missing his mom more.
They looked through the chest more and found old pictures. Winry also found some jewelry that she could wear. A matching pearl necklace and earrings that she could also wear on their wedding day.
Two months before the wedding….
Edward was waiting at the train station sitting on the bench, looking annoyed. He hated waiting. He finally heard the train whistle blow as it approached. Alphonse stepped off, and the brothers greeted each other. "I hope you don't mind, I brought some company." Mei stepped off followed by the frog chimera and boar chimera. They all exchanged greetings.
"I'm glad you brought some extra friends. We're going to need all the help we can get with this project." Edward told them. They all looked questioning him.
"What project?" Al asked.
Edward put his hand behind his head. "Well, I was thinking, that if you're okay with it, we can build a house on our property. One that Winry and I can live in." Edward waited his response.
Al became sentimental. A lot of bad events had happened in that house but a lot of good could happen if they let it. "That's fine. I think it's time to build some good memories there."
Edward was ecstatic. "Winry's going to be so happy. Thanks Al."
"Where is Winry?" Al asked.
"She had to work late with a client today. She's already baked a pie so don't worry."
The party of friends and family made their way to the Rockbell house. Edward couldn't wait to have his own house to share with Winry. There would be extra rooms for guests to stay.
Two weeks before the wedding
Edward was laying on Winry's exam table, reading a book while she worked on his leg. She wanted to give him a tune up before he had to go to Central. General Mustang had called Edward and told him it was urgent that he and Al come to Central for an important brief mission. He wouldn't give any details on the phone in case the line wasn't secure.
While Edward was thinking of what his mission might be, Winry was thinking about her own issue. She needed to talk with Edward about something very sensitive but she knew it was going to be awkward. She needed to keep it brief.
"Hey Ed," she spoke to get his attention as she finished his leg. He put his book to his side and turned his head to her. She continued "I needed to talk to you about something."
Edward sat up. Winry looked serious. "What is it?"
"Well, I've thinking about our wedding night."
Edward cheeks turned pink. They had been intimate in other ways but had not had sexual intercourse yet. And they never talked about it. "What about it?" he asked.
"Well, I just wanted to make sure what we wanted to do. I want to use birth control. I'm just not ready to be a mom yet." Winry got it all out. They hadn't talked about when they wanted children yet but they needed to.
Edward wanted to start a family but he was willing to wait. "Oh okay. We can do that."
Winry saw he looked a little disappointed. "Did you want to start right away?"
"Well, I did but we can wait. It's fine. I mean, you have to carry it," Edward responded.
"I'm sorry. I just want us to get used to being married first. And I'm just not sure I want to be responsible for another human life quite yet but I do want kids one day," Winry said.
"It's fine. Seriously. It sounds kind of nice just the two of us for now," Edward reassured her.
Winry hugged him. "Thank you for understanding. Now be safe in Central, and don't be late for our wedding!" She hit him softly in the shoulder.
"Was that a threat?" Edward asked with a mischievous grin.
"YES! And tell Mr. Mustang that too. He'll pay if you're late," Winry told him.
"Yes ma'am. I'll tell him but I don't think he knows your wrath as well as I do." Edward pulled her into his chest.
Winry snuggled into him and realized him something. "Ed, if you're in Central for a few days, maybe we can meet up. Gracia is giving me a bridal shower in 3 days."
"Sure, that'd be great but I can't guarantee it. I have no idea what Mustang wants us to do. We might be too busy but I'll let you know," Edward replied to her.
Author's note: I had to put in that Winry wore her mother's wedding dress. She strikes me as being very sentimental. And I can't wait to post the next chapter involving Mustang's mission but you'll have to wait until next week.
