Third Trimester
Winry had just got out of a warm bath to help ease her back and feet pain after working on a client's arm today. She dried her hair and noticed her feet still hurt. She proceeded to go downstairs to find Edward cooking dinner. He made beef stroganoff and was putting some in a bowl for Winry. She sat at the table and sighed "My feet still hurt."
Edward sat down with his bowl. "Still?" He peeked at her feet under the table. They didn't look very swollen but just slightly. The doctor had assured them some swelling would be normal since she was seven months along. "After dinner, you need to keep them raised. That might help some," he told her even though she grimaced. She was bored with resting.
After dinner, Winry sat on the couch with her feet up to keep her husband happy. To her surprise, he sat down and put her feet in his lap and started rubbing them. She smiled in relief. It felt so good. She laid her head back and sighed happily. "That feels nice," she told her husband. He was glad he could make her happy.
A month later, Edward had greeted Alphonse at the train station and walked him to their home. Al was here to start writing their new book on Alkahestory together and also be here for his niece or nephew's birth.
"How is Winry doing since Granny passed?" Al asked before they got to the house.
"She's doing okay. She's really distracted herself with the nursery and getting all her clients' maintenance in before this kid's born," Edward said looking concerned.
"Wow. She has a lot on her plate right now," Al said.
"Yeah I know. But she's doing okay. She still cries every now and then," Edward said concerned.
"It's okay for her to cry. It's part of her grieving. That's how she does it." Al put a hand on his shoulder.
"Yeah, that is her way of dealing with sadness," Edward sighed, looking more content.
"At least she hasn't set the house on fire," Al laughed. Edward punched him in the shoulder. Then they saw the house appear.
Edward opened the door and Al followed. "Winry, look who I found at the train station!" Edward yelled.
Winry came around the corner. "Perfect timing! I just finished with Mr. Johnson's arm." She had just washed up and Winry's full figure came into view. She had on a white long sleeved shirt that was very snug and jeans. She used a stretchy band of fabric underneath that covered up the fact she couldn't button her jeans anymore.
"Whoa Winry! You're huge!" Al smiled at her.
Edward winced as Winry flung her wrench at his head. Al was on the floor with his soul trying to escape. Edward grabbed onto it and shoved it back in. 'I forgot to warn him how sensitive she is about her size!' Edward thought.
"I AM NOT HUGE!" she yelled and took some deep breaths. Winry stormed off and went into the kitchen and cried a little. She was angry and then embarrassed with her behavior.
Al and Ed went into the kitchen. Al spoke to her "I'm sorry Winry, I didn't mean it like that. I mean you look great!" Edward agreed.
"I'm sorry Al, I'm just having a moment right now," Winry said and Al hugged her.
"It's fine Winry. It's okay," Al rubbed her back a little. He looked at his brother with wide eyes. He hadn't known that Winry's emotions were this extravagant.
Edward made a suggestion. "Let's start again. I'll make tea and you two sit down and catch up a little. Winry, you want some of those shortbread cookies we just got?" Winry nodded and went to sit on the couch. Al sat down next to her. They started talking and chuckling a little when Al noticed the movement under her shirt.
"Winry, you can see it move?!" Al watched the protrusions on her abdomen move.
"Yeah, it's pretty amazing, huh? Here, you can feel it," Winry took his hand and placed it where the baby's elbow or knee was protruding out. He felt it move against his hand.
"Wow," Al was admiring his niece or nephew.
Edward brought the tea and cups.
Winry spoke to Edward. "It never gets old, huh? Feeling it move like this." Edward noticed the scene.
"No, it never gets old." Edward said agreeing with his wife.
"Ed, can you pass me my tea?" Winry asked.
He poured the milk in her tea and put two sugars in it, which was the way she liked it, and didn't complain once. Al thought this was odd because he didn't complain about handling the milk.
Winry groaned. "Ed, can you help me up? I have to go to the bathroom." Edward helped her up off the couch. Al was surprised that his brother hadn't complained.
Al had to ask "Winry, what did you do to him?"
Winry and Edward looked confused.
Al clarified. "Brother's being so nice!"
Edward got annoyed and yelled "Al! She's eight months pregnant!"
Winry laughed and went to the bathroom. It was good to have Al home. It made her realize how much her and Edward's relationship had changed.
A few hours later, Winry, Edward, and Al had caught up playing card games then of course the conversation turned to the boys conversing about their new book. Al brought books and notes to go through, and Edward was becoming enthralled.
Winry grew tired and told the boys she was going to bed. Usually she and Edward went to bed together but Al was in town so she knew they would be up late catching up. She kissed Ed good night in front of Al and went up the stairs.
A little while later, Edward started feeling guilty that she was alone in bed when they were so used to going to bed together. He told Al that he would be right back.
"I have to say good night to Winry,"
"Brother, she already said good night."
"It's different. I just need to go check on her."
Al rolled his eyes but was glad to see his brother worried.
Edward went into their room and Winry was laying in bed reading her novel. She put it down when she noticed him enter.
She was concerned. "Everything okay?"
"Everything's fine. I just wanted to say Good night properly." He sat on his side of the bed and kissed her on her lips softly and partially open.
Winry smiled. "That was a nice kiss."
Edward smiled and put his hand close to her belly. "Can I?"
Winry rolled her eyes. "I don't know why you still ask. Of course you can."
Edward rubbed her belly. The baby fluttered under his touch. He sighed and said "Hey there. Are you ready to come out and meet us soon? I think your mom's about ready." Just then the baby made large movements. "Whoa! Hey! It's moving a LOT!" Edward backed his hand off and watched her belly move. His eyes were wide. He was worried.
Winry laughed. "I told you it does this a lot. It must like your voice." Edward relaxed a little. "And you're right, Ed. I am ready for it to come out. It's really uncomfortable." Winry groaned.
Two weeks later, Winry was almost 9 months along. She dreamed that something hard had hit her right hip. She woke up and couldn't move. Her hip hurt so horribly that she started crying, which in turn woke up her husband.
Her crying at night wasn't what caught his attention. She had cried at night with grief but this was a cry of pain. He immediately panicked thinking maybe she had gone into labor. "Winry! What's wrong?! Is it time?! Do we need to call the doctor?!
"NO! My hip HURTS!" Winry cried out and grabbed her hip. Edward didn't know what to do so he jumped out of bed and grabbed some pillows from the linen closet. He helped her roll and placed a pillow under her hip. She laid down on it and the angle seemed to help. She calmed down as the pain seemed to settle.
Edward felt terrible for her. She was uncomfortable at all times. She was suffering all the aches and pains from pregnancy while he had it easy. He kissed her forehead because he didn't know what else to do. "Did the pillows help?" he asked. Winry nodded and they tried to settle back down to go to sleep.
Author's note: So the hip pain incident happened to me when I was very pregnant with my first child. It also happened with my second one but I was more prepared for it. When a woman is very pregnant, the body tells the joints to loosen but it can't really specify just the pelvic joint so some women have severe hip pain or even wrist pain. Also, with Al commenting on Ed being so nice, this happened with my husband and his twin. Anyways, I hope you enjoyed. Please review!
