Fall 1920 Ben 20 months old

Today was the annual harvest festival in 1920. Edward and Winry were looking forward to showing their son how much fun the festival would be. They figured he could enjoy it more now that he was 20 months old and walking. Edward had Ben on his shoulders walking to the festival. Edward asked Ben "What do you want to do first? Look at the animals or eat something?"

Winry laughed and told Edward "You and your bottomless pit of a stomach. You better watch how much you eat. Your stomach's already getting bigger."

Edward scoffed. "You hear that Ben? Mommy's being mean. And my stomach is fine." He looked down at his stomach. 'Maybe I do need to exercise more. I've been kinda slacking,' he thought.

Ben saw the festival coming into view and squirmed trying to get off Edward's shoulders. Edward asked him "You want down?"

"Down!" Ben said excited to see what the festival had in store. Edward took him off his shoulders and set him down. Edward and Winry watched him walk ahead of them. He wasn't waiting for them to catch up.

First up were the games. Ben was excited to see the toys that were the prizes. Edward played a few games and won a stuffed bear for him.

Then Edward's stomach couldn't wait. Edward ate a turkey leg, sharing some with Ben. Then there was dessert. Winry shared her ice cream with Ben.

They looked at the animals that were on show there. Ben could name them, and they tried teaching him the sounds that animals made.

After walking around looking at the goods for sale, Winry got Ben a knit hat and cotton candy. It was getting later in the day and Winry knew he usually had his nap around this time but he was having so much fun. So they kept shopping and eating fair food.

When dusk came, Ben was asleep on Edward. They decided not to stay for the fireworks because Ben had apparently had enough fun for the day. They walked home and just when they saw their house come into view, Ben started groaning and was half awake. "Hey buddy, we're almost home." Edward told him. And then he heard a gut wrenching sound and then felt something warm on his shirt that slid down. Edward looked down and saw the source. "Ugh Winry! He threw up on me!" Edward exclaimed.

Winry turned around and made a horrified face. She took Ben at arm's length and kept him at arms length as she ran into the house and into the bathroom. Ben was crying hysterically. She gave him a bath while Edward started washing his shirt in the kitchen sink. "Yuck! It smells awful!" Edward kept scrubbing with soap and water.

Winry dried off the toddler and put a dry diaper and pajamas on him. He seemed to feel better. His crying had calmed down into a whimper. She and Ben sat in the rocking chair in his room and she started reading to him. Edward came into the room after hanging his shirt to dry. "How is he?" he asked.

"He seems fine. I think he just had too much junk food," Winry said. "Poor baby." She kissed the baby's head. He started falling asleep again. Edward went into the bathroom and got a shower. He scrubbed the smell of vomit off his chest. Winry went into the bathroom and grabbed Ben's clothes and washed them off in the kitchen sink.

Edward joined her downstairs with a fresh shirt on. Once she was done scrubbing Ben's clothes, they both heard a distant booming. Edward looked through the window. "The fireworks started. Wanna watch them together?"

"Sure." Winry and Edward sat the front porch and watched the fireworks. Despite their son making an interesting end to the day, they had overall enjoyed it. Winry took hold of Edward's hand. He removed his hand and put his arm around her shoulder. They scooted closer to each other, enjoying their peace together.
