[Four days later]

Bella got a job at the small coffee shop not far from the loft. It made it easier to commute. She didn't need the job for money, but she needed it to keep her sanity and wits. It was slower today, so when the door opened, she smiled and looked up.

Simon was standing there. "Oh, Bella, I didn't know you worked here."

"Yeah," Bella said, her smile falling a little, and she looked away.

"You never texted me back."

"Oh right, I um…broke my phone again. Lost all my stuff."

Simon smiled. "Ah, well I can give you my number again."

"I left my phone at the loft." She made another excuse. "I was running late this morning. What can I get you?"

Simon blinked a couple times. "Oh, um, Americano, double shot."

Bella nodded, and went to work, making his coffee after he paid. She handed it to him. "Here you go." She said and her sleeve shifted, and Simon could see the bruise on her wrist.

Simon took his coffee, and frowned, when Bella flitted away, clearly nervous, it sent red flags up. But he didn't say anything. "Thanks," he said, lifting his coffee and then walked out. He took a drink of his coffee, and then he pulled his phone from his pocket and called Jace.

"Hello."

"Jace, is Bella, okay?"

"What?"

"Have you noticed anything strange?"

"How would I know?"

Simon sighed. "You're her neighbor."

There was a silence and a sigh. "No. I don't pay that much attention. What time is it?"

"Nine. Are you still in bed?" Simon asked, incredulous.

"Shit. Alright, mate, I have to run." Jace said and hung up.

Simon sighed and looked at his phone. He still had Bella's number, so he decided to send a text. He waited and got a message back that the number was disconnected. He frowned, and looked back at the coffee shop. He found that odd.

[Two Weeks Later]

"Edward! I promise you I'm not talking to him!"

Edward was angry. He rolled up his sleeves and loosened his tie. "Why is he sending you fucking flowers then!" He roared at her angrily.

"I don't know! I don't know!"

"Liar!'

"No! I swear I'm not lying!"

Edward picked up the vase of flowers and threw them at her. It hit the wall and the glass shattered, and the pieces stung as it pelted her. She stooped to pick up the shattered glass instinctively, and cut her hand open. He growled and turned and walked out the door, slamming it behind him, but it kicked back from not latching all the way.

Bella leaned against the wall, tears starting to fall. Her hand hurt, and blood was pouring out of it, where she sliced it deep. Blood still made Edward woozy, so it was no surprise that he left the moment she cut herself.

Jace walked up the stairs, seeing Bella's door ajar, and heard sobs. He frowned and walked towards her door instead. It was two in the morning; she should have been asleep by now. He put his hand on the door and pushed it open more. "Bella?" He called out to her.

Bella wiped her face with her good hand. "Um."

Jace went towards her voice, finding her slumped down in the kitchen, blood covered in her lap. "My god." He said and rushed towards her. "Are you okay?"

"I uh, broke the vase, and I went to pick up the glass, and I cut myself. I'm okay." She said, her tears still flowing hard.

"That's not what happened." Jace said, with a sigh. He stood, and searched the drawers for a towel, until he found one and came back to her, and lifted her hand, taking the towel and pressing it to her hand. "You might need stitches. Come on."

"No. He'll be back. I must clean this up, get rid of the blood. He'll be back." Bella said quickly, and then her eyes got wide. "You have to leave. If he sees you in here- "

Jace's brows knitted together. "Bella, he's hurting you."

"He's not. I'm just clumsy." She sniffed.

"That's bullshit, and you know it." Jace said. "Come on, I'm taking you to the hospital."

Bella didn't have the energy to fight. He guided her out of her apartment, pulling the door shut behind her and started down the stairs when Simon started up.

"Bella? What happened?"

"We're going to the hospital; do you have your car?"

"Yeah, yeah, I was just seeing if I could crash with you." Simon said and they went back down the stairs, and he unlocked his car. Jace got in the backseat with Bella. "What happened?" Simon asked as he drove towards the hospital.

Jace looked at Bella and she shook her head. He sighed. "She broke a vase."

"The vase I sent with the flowers. Clary said that you were sick for the past couple days, and thought the flowers would cheer you up. I'm sorry."

Clary was Bella's coworker, and Simon's best friend. Bella liked Clary, and could really see them becoming friends, if it wasn't for her not being allowed to have any.

"It's okay." Bella said, her voice small.

Once at the hospital, Simon and Jace got her checked in. She was definitely going to need stitches in her hand. They guys waited out in the waiting room when Edward rushed through the door. Jace saw him when he did, and he clenched his fist, trying to reel in his anger.

Edward went to the nurse's desk. "Bella Swan?"

Jace couldn't help it now. He stalked over towards him. "She's getting stitches." He said and looked at the nurse. "He's not allowed to see her."

"The hell I'm not, I'm her fiancé."

"No, this man is abusing her. Get security to remove him or I will."

"That's preposterous." Edward defended himself. "I would never- "

Simon was beside Jace now. "Bella's engaged?"

"She is. Are you Simon?"

"Yeah."

"Leave her alone. Stop sending her flowers, don't call or text her. Don't go to her job." Edward said. "I will end you."

Jace felt himself unravel and he just threw his fist into Edward's face, knocking him back. "Leave her the fuck alone you crazy son of- "

Bella emerged. "Stop! Please." She said, her voice quivering. Security was already there, detaining Edward, and pushing Jace back.

"I'm not going to hit him again Ryan." Jace said, shrugging off Ryan's, the security guard, hand.

"Bella, tell them. Tell them I wouldn't hurt you." Edward looked at her, his eyes sharp. His green eyes were cold, but also enraged. She was going to be beat when she got home.

Bella swallowed. "Uh."

"I can hear you hitting her you asshole." Jace said, looking at him. "I'm the neighbor, or did you forget? I have to listen to her cry and scream, trying to get away from you while you go after her." He looked at Ryan. "Call the police."

Bella shook her head. "Wait! Don't do that."

Simon looked at her, not at all surprised. He thought he saw bruises on her, and she explained them away. She was acting strange, and he just brushed it off. He has known her less than a month, but already, he wanted to help her, and be her friend. "Bella…" He murmured.

Jace shook his head. "No. Absolutely fucking not. I told myself I wasn't going to get involved, but I just carried your ass here to the hospital to get stitches. I'm not going to turn my head and something worse happen to you."

"Ma'am. Is what Jace is saying, true?" Ryan asked her.

Bella swallowed, and shut her eyes. Edward was going to hurt her again or worse, kill her. Jace was right. "Yes." She said and her voice shook.

Edward fought against the two security guards that held him. "She's lying."

Ryan shook his head and radioed in the call for the police to show up.

Bella turned around, the sobs coming from her shook her. But Jace moved towards her, reaching for her as her legs gave out, and he caught her.

Simon ran a hand through his hair, pulling his phone from his pocket. "Magnus. Can you have the locks changed at the loft for Bella?"

"I can, what happened?"

"Long story. Just…it needs to be done immediately." Simon said and then hung up.

Magnus owned the loft building, and had a guy help manage the other tenants outside of Jace.

Jace gathered Bella up in his arms, carrying her. "She's discharged, yes?" He asked the nurse and the nurse just nodded, still shocked from what just happened. He turned and carried her outside, back to Simon's car, and lay her in the back seat. She was still crying, and Jace wasn't sure how to get her to stop.

Simon drove away, going towards the loft. When they got there, Magnus was there already, having the lock changed on Bella's door.

Bella's tears had subsided by now and she could stand. Magnus looked at her, the blood stain on her shirt and pants, and her hand neatly bandaged.

"Did someone break in?"

"Uh…no. My ex found me a few weeks ago and uh…I…" She felt the tears sting again. "I'm sorry for the trouble."

Magnus frowned. "No, it's no trouble. As long as you're okay."

"I don't know." Bella admitted. She let Edward back in her life to hurt her, and now, she was sure he would try to retaliate. "Edward is a lawyer."

"I don't care." Magnus said. "He's a predator. No tolerance. I'll have security here to make sure he doesn't return."

Bella shook her head. "That's way too much trouble."

"I'm across the hall Magnus. I can hear if he returns. I'll call the police immediately." Jace said.

Magnus sighed and nodded. "Alright. Well, the lock is finished. Pick a new code, and I'll have the key for you later today."

Bella nodded and went to her door, the locksmith showed her how to change the code, and she changed it, nodding her thanks, and watched him leave. She looked at Simon and Jace. "Uh, do you want some tea? I can make some."

"You need to rest." Jace said. It's five in the morning."

"I…I don't think I can sleep right now, and I'm not sure I want to be alone."

Jace nodded, understanding. "Alright. Simon and I…we can come in for some tea."

They followed her into the apartment. She saw the floor and the blood and glass still there. "Oh, I should- "

"I'll clean it up." Simon said, and moved towards the mess.

Bella sighed and then moved around the kitchen, getting the tea kettle on the stove to boil the water for the tea. Everyone was quiet as they waited for the tea, and Simon cleaned up the broken glass and mopped up the blood on the floor.

Bella steeped the tea, sliding the cup to Jace, and set one aside for Simon.

Simon took his cup and sipped it. He started thinking about Edward. "He seemed familiar to me…" He murmured.

"Edward and Alice are brother and sister." Bella said, and sipped her own tea.

Simon blinked a few times. "He was a senior I believe…" He murmured.

Bella nodded and drank her tea. The painful scars that she tried, so desperately to hide, were coming through, and she just wanted to curl up in a ball and just cry for days.

"Do you have any family?" Simon asked.

"I have two uncles, but I haven't seen them since I was a little girl." Bella said. "My dad died four months ago. I'm an only child, as far as I know."

"I'm sorry." Simon said. "You moved to New York to get away from Edward?"

"That wasn't why I moved. Edward left four years ago, and I never saw him again. I was worse off with him than without him, and I didn't see that until after my father died. I shattered the image I had of him, and I realized I buried that pain and trauma, and it wasn't healthy. I wanted to get a fresh start, away from anyone that knew me." Bella said and looked down at her tea. "Three days in, and he finds me." She shook her head. "I don't know why."

Jace made a hmm noise. "Do you think he'll try to come back?"

"Probably. He won't sit long in jail. He's a lawyer."

"Take out a restraining order." Simon suggested.

"Yeah. I should." Bella said and finished her tea. They sat on the couch, and she pulled her knees up to her chest and she hugged her good around them.

Simon and Jace sat there with her, in comforting silence, until she fell asleep.

[The Next Morning]

Bella stirred, feeling a heavy weight on her legs, and she was laying against someone, not the couch. She looked around, seeing daylight peer through the windows in the loft. She looked down at her feet and saw Simon laying there, using her legs as a pillow. The rise and fall of Jace's chest made Bella realize how close she was to him. His arm was draped over her, and she found it very hard to move, so she lay there, trying to stay still.

"Are you awake?" Jace murmured, his eyes still shut.

"Yeah…" Bella whispered back.

Jace shifted, lifting his arm, and she suddenly felt cold, and she shivered. He put his arm back when she shivered, and shifted against so she could tuck into him more. He created a lot of heat, and her loft was a bit cold in the morning.

Bella wasn't sure she wanted this closeness. She felt her anxiety spike, but she closed her eyes, telling herself it wasn't Edward. She couldn't stand it any longer, and she shifted, and moved, getting off the couch and taking a breath.

Jace watched her, curious as to what made her panic, and then realized it was the close quarters. She was claustrophobic. Simon stirred, being jostled a little from Bella's sudden departure. Jace sat up, running a hand through his hair.

Simon opened his eyes, blinking a few times and then stretched. "What time is it?"

Bella looked at her phone on the table. "1 pm."

Simon groaned and sat up. "I have to go to the studio." He blew out a breath. "Are you going to be, okay?"

Bella nodded. "Yeah. I'll be okay."

Jace sighed. "I have to get to the club to get stuff ready for open at four. Why don't you come down to the club and- "?

"I'll be okay. I'm going to just uh…" She didn't know what she was going to do. She couldn't lift or do much with her hand the way it was.

Simon shook his head. "You shouldn't be alone today. If Edward comes back, it can be bad. Come to the studio. It's gonna be me and the guys recording the new song. It can be fun."

Bella bit her lip, thinking and then she nodded. "Alright." She said, giving in. She disappeared into her room, to get dressed, pulling on jeans and a long-sleeved shirt. She brushed her teeth, and emerged fifteen minutes later.

Simon was texting something on his phone and Jace was already gone. Simon looked up at her and smiled. "You ready? We'll get bagels on the way there."

Bella nodded and followed Simon out to his car and drove towards the studio.

[Music Studio: Brooklyn Heights]

Bella sat and watched Simon in the sound booth, the music playing.

"Graffiti scrawls on bathroom walls…in a city I don't know, I don't know, this place ain't my home…."

It made Bella smiled as she watched him record his newest song, a song that she got to hear before the radio and other fans did. If she was still talking with Alice, she would brag to her about it.

"I'm Michelangelo, and I only wanna shout inside of you, your have to glow, where the colors go…. I'm Michelangelo, and I only wanna die inside of you, your have to glow, where the colors go…."

Bella thought Simon's voice was amazing, and he was clearly talented. She bobbed her head a little just getting lost a little with the music. She was started to relax a little as he continued to sing.

After recording, Simon came out of the booth. "Sound good?" He asked Bella.

"Sounds awesome. I'm going to have it stuck in my head all day." She said with a smile.

"That's what we're going for." Mike, the music talent said with a grin. "You know you sing quite lovely too."

"What?" Bella asked with a frown.

Mike nodded. "Yeah, you were singing with him. I don't think you realized you were doing it. It was enjoyable, so I didn't say anything."

Simon raised a brow. "You sing?"

"Oh no, I'm terrible." Bella said, waving a hand.

"Actually, you know who your voice reminds me of?"

Bella shook her head. "I'm not a singer."

"She sounds like Ruelle."

"No shit. That's awesome. Ruelle is incredible. Come get in the recording booth." Simon motioned.

Bella shook her head. "I honestly am not a singer."

"It'll be fun." Simon said with a smile. "De-stress."

Bella hesitated and then sighed, getting up. She followed Simon into the booth. He put some headphones on her.

"It's not super hard. Let's just have some fun." Simon said and grabbed some other headphones from a table and then gave Mike the thumbs up. 'Michelangelo' started playing.

Bella looked at the sheet music in front of her.

"Graffiti scrawls on bathroom walls, in a city I don't know…I don't know, this place ain't my home." She started, and it was weird to sing out loud noticeably. She noticed that she was having fun though, singing the song with Simon.

"Ain't a broken face if you're ready for me, take my pain awayyy, save my broken face if you're ready for me, break your heart away-ay…"

Simon smiled at her as they sang together. She was even swaying to the music, getting into the song. It was nice to see her smile.

When the song was finished, she slipped the headphones off and smiled at Simon. "That was fun."

Simon nodded, smiling wide. "Mike, play it back." He said and Mike played the recording back.

Bella's mouth fell. "That's me?"

Simon nodded. "It is. Did you not realize you can sing?"

Bella shook her head. "I mean, I sing in the shower sometimes, but no, I never have sung anything like this before, or in front of anyone."

"Mike, can you send that to Marcus. Let him hear it. Is that okay?" He asked the last part for Bella.

"I suppose. I mean, who is Marcus?"

"My manager." Simon said with a smile.

Bella frowned. "Your manager wouldn't want to hear me sing."

"He might." Simon said with a shrug. "I'm playing tonight at Pandemonium. You should come, relax, and sing with me. It's a group of people that are really great."

Bella thought about it. "I don't know if I'll sing, but I'll be there. I haven't been…since Edward showed up."

Simon smiled. "Well, we'll focus on you just having fun. That's what today is." He said and looked at Mike and gave a thumbs up.

An hour later, they were heading out of the studio, and walking towards the crosswalk. It was green for them to walk across, and Bella started across, but Simon pulled her back suddenly, and she landed against him. A car sped through the crosswalk.

"You, okay?" Simon asked, as she stared up at him.

"Yeah." Bella said, her brain catching up to what almost happened. "Thank you."

"Of course." Simon said, and then released her after a short moment of just staring at each other. They double checked the traffic and walked across to the other side. It was five now, so they headed towards a Greek restaurant for dinner.

By the time they got to Pandemonium, it was already seven. They went inside, spotting Jace at the bar. It was busier on Fridays at Pandemonium, so he was swamped with patrons. Simon took a short cut towards the back, finding Magnus.

"Hey, Bella is gonna sing with me tonight. Doing some covers. Is that okay?"

Magnus nodded. "Of course." He said, patting Simon's cheek and smiling. "Go set up. It's really packed tonight. They know you perform here on Fridays now. You're a rising star."

Simon laughed. "Well, it's good for business. Thanks Magnus." He said and guided Bella to the backstage area.

"Are you sure I can sing. I mean, people love you and- "

"Don't think about it too hard. You know Ruelle songs?"

Bella nodded. "She's one of my favorite artists."

"Good. She would love you." Simon said with a smile. "It's uncanny how much you two sounds alike."

Simon hopped up on the stage, the lights were still dimmed. He reached his hand out for Bella, and she hesitated, but took it and got up on stage with him. "Don't think." He murmured and then the lights lit up the stage. "Helllloo Pandemonium!" Cheers sounded from the crowd. "So enthusiastic tonight. I'm Simon and this is my good friend Bella. We're gonna do some covers tonight, have some fun, and just rock out."

There was more cheers and that made Bella feel a little nervous, but she blew a breath out, and took the mic that Simon handed her, and then made a circular motion with his finger and music started playing.

Bella blew out another breath before singing. "You've got no place…to hide. And I'm feeling like a villain, got a hunger inside."

Jace watched the stage, stunned by the sound coming from Bella. He was just enthralled.

Magnus smiled, leaning against the bar. "You're staring awfully hard."

Jace blinked and looked at Magnus. "Her voice."

"Yeah, she rivals Simon. Might even be better, and I think he knows that." Magnus said with a nod.

"Monsters stuck in your head, monsters under your bed, we are monsters, oh…oh." Bella sang, and Simon sung backup for her. He smiled at her as they sang, the vibe in the club strong, as they continued the Ruelle cover.

When the set was complete, there were some loud cheers and screams as the lights dimmed on the stage.

Bella stood there, shocked that she just did that. She felt a rush of excitement. She turned and looked at Simon. "That was incredible."

"You were incredible." Simon said as they got down off the stage.

"I have never felt like that. It was nerves, and then I just started singing, and I just felt all of this…. emotion pour out of me, and I just feel so alive, and amazing." She gushed, and Simon smiled, watching at how excited she looked, how relaxed, and not scared. She was opening up again despite getting hurt last night, and going through more trauma. It was nice to see her smiling.

They made it over to the bar, after getting stopped a few times for Simon to give people his autograph.

"Can I have yours?" A girl asked Bella.

"Oh, I'm- "

"You are amazing. I just know you're going to be on the radio." The girl said quickly.

Bella smiled. "Uh, sure." She said and took the pen and signed notebook the girl handed her. She just signed Bella with a heart.

Simon smiled as the girl walked away. "First fan."

"It's not that big of deal. I don't sing often." She said as they got to the bar.

"Bella, you are amazing," Magnus said smiling wide. "Would you be willing to sing here a few nights a week?"

Bella frowned. "I don't know. I'm not a singer."

"Could have fooled me." Jace said, and slid her a bourbon. "You can sing."

Bella took the drink and drunk it down quick. "I don't know. It was fun." She said and looked at Simon. "Thank you."

Simon smiled. "Anytime." He said and then he leaned in, "Take a picture with me. Instagram." He said, and she leaned in with him and smiled for the camera, and he snapped the selfie with her. He posted it.

Simonlewisofficial Got to sing with this powerhouse tonight Pandemonium! Welcome to the stage ~*~Bells !~*~

Jace smiled, seeing the bright smile on Bella's face. She was bringing him out of his broodiness, and he wasn't sure why. He wasn't usually this impressed with women, nor did he ever had a desire to step in and insert himself in a situation that was none of his business. But she was different.
