Inside his tent, Ryoma sat on the stool across from Cornelius, Camilla sitting beside him as Corrin sat beside Cornelius.
Ryoma sighed before saying. "Where to begin…Corrin, feel free to help here."
"Well, for starters" Corrin said, "You're truly from Hoshido, Cornelius."
Ryoma nodded, satisfied at the starting place. "You, Corrin, and I have the same mother, though you and Corrin are siblings by full blood."
"So, who was my father?" Cornelius asked.
"A dragon" Corrin said calmly. Cornelius, however, was at a complete loss for words. Corrin noticed the shocked expression on his face. "I know that sound crazy, but it's true. You and I are some of the last with dragon blood. Needless to say it left a few marks on us."
To demonstrate, Corrin gestured to her pointed ears and sharpened canine teeth. Cornelius didn't have the ears. However, he had taken notice of his own sharpened teeth, though he hadn't thought much of it until now.
"So" he said, "I'm half dragon."
Corrin shrugged. "Pretty much. It sounds weird, but it has its uses. I wouldn't dwell on it too much."
Seeing as Corrin had knowledge of this longer, he just decided to take her word for it.
He then looked to Ryoma. "So what happened?"
Ryoma looked confused. "What do you mean?"
Cornelius gave him a stern look. "I mean how did I end up in Nohr and not Hoshido?"
Camilla chimed in. "I would also like to know this, actually."
Ryoma inquisitively raised an eyebrow at Camilla. "You don't know."
"I was very young, and didn't know much better."
Ryoma nodded in understanding before explaining. "Well, as you may guess, those who carry the blood of dragons are very rare and very powerful. So of course, when Garon heard our mother had not one, but two of them…"
"Let me guess" Cornelius concluded, his tone dark, "he wanted one for himself."
Ryoma nodded, "I was very young at the time, but I remember it well. Garon had sent one of his mercenaries to do it. Whoever it was, they snuck into Hoshido and took you, still an infant, away from us. None of us realized what had happened until it was too late, and seeing my mother weep like she did will forever be seared into my memory."
Camilla looked horrified. "To think father would do such a thing…so that's why Nohr and Hoshido are against each other!"
Ryoma confirmed it. Hoshido's queen had sent out her own spies to find the infant, and they succeeded, though only one survived in the attempt to take him back. Angered, the queen declared war on Hoshido, refusing to back down until Cornelius was returned.
Camilla sorrowfully looked to Ryoma. "Forgive me. I didn't know. Garon told us that he had found the child in the wilderness alone and saved him."
"I hold nothing against you and your siblings." Ryoma reassured, "and it does please me to see Cornelius is alright."
Cornelius himself however, was all the angrier as this truth came to light. Corrin could feel the rising anger and lightly leaned away from him
"So that's it" he said, glaring at Ryoma and Camilla "I'm just a prize of war stolen because of my heritage?! Is that it?!"
Camilla held up her hand to try and reassure him, but Ryoma held her and looked at the prince, his expression firm. "Don't lash out at her; she was as ignorant as you. Your anger is understandable, but it will only be worth anything if you direct it at the one responsible: Garon."
"You can trust us" Corrin said, warily placing a hand on Cornelius's shoulder. However, the prince shrugged it off and stood up. "I need a minute."
With that, he stormed out of the tent, leaving Corrin, Ryoma, and Camilla all very worried. Camilla began tearing up a little.
"I don't want to lose him" she sniffled, "He really was like my true brother to me."
"He'll come around" Ryoma reassured her, but even he doubted those words. As for Corrin, she just looked outside the tent in worry; she may have just met her brother for the first time, but she already cared for him, and it hurt her to see him angry like this. She just hoped that Ryoma's words would prove true.
…
As for Cornelius himself, he had run out of the camp, stopping at the edge of the nearby lake and sitting next to it. As he gazed out to the water, he felt a few tears well up in his eyes, though he wasn't sure if they were from anger or sadness, or both. In his frustration, he picked up a nearby rock and threw it as hard as he could into the water, watching the ripples spread out.
"You alright?" asked a voice. Startled, Cornelius whipped around to see the girl with blue hair from earlier, Lucina. Seeing her up close, Cornelius saw that she was rather beautiful, in a harsh, warrior-like way, but beautiful nonetheless.
"I saw you run out of camp" she said, "Figured something happened."
Cornelius removed his helmet and sighed. "It's just…family issues. You wouldn't understand."
Intrigued, Lucina sat down next Cornelius, looking him in the eyes. "Try me."
Seeing he had gotten himself into this, Cornelius told her everything: how he was actually a prince that had been abducted when he was a baby and that he was half-dragon. When he had finished, Lucina simply sat there, a thoughtful look on her face.
"I know" Cornelius said, "It sounds crazy."
"Actually" Lucina corrected, "It's not the craziest thing I've heard. I had some minor issues with my family too, back in the day."
Lucina went ahead and explained her own story. Apparently, her life was one of fear as she grew up under the threat of a dragon called Grima. Her father had died, and so she decided to mess with time travel; one thing led to another, Lucina was reunited with her father, and Grima was eventually defeated. She too, had to disguise herself, however, in order to gain the support she needed.
"I may not have the family issues that you do" Lucina admitted, "But I do know this: there will always be those who won't give up on you."
Cornelius thought back to Camilla: how she still seemed to want to support him in spite of everything. Even Corrin, who he had only just met, seemed incredibly supportive; probably an innate thing with siblings. Regardless, Cornelius saw that Lucina had a point.
"Yeah" he said, "Maybe a few new friends wouldn't hurt either."
"No, they wouldn't" Lucina agreed. "You and I seem to get along well enough already."
Cornelius nodded in agreement before noticing the sun beginning to dip below the trees.
"We should probably head back" he said, standing up.
"Agreed" Lucina replied, "I hope to meet you again before battle, Cornelius."
"You as well, Princess Lucina."
Lucina chuckled in amusement. "Please, just call me Lucina."
The two shook hands before making their way back to the camp. Once there, they parted ways as Cornelius started to head back to Ryoma's tent. However, turning a corner, he ended up bumping into Corrin.
"Oh!" she exclaimed, "You're back!"
"Yeah" Cornelius said, "I just needed to think some things over."
Corrin understood as much. "And?"
Cornelius answered by pulling Corrin into an embrace.
"I have no reason to be mad at you" he whispered, "Or Ryoma, or any of my siblings. Right now, I would just like to get to know my sister a little more, if you're ok with that."
Corrin felt a surge of joy fill her heart, and quickly hugged him back. "Yes, of course I am ok with that."
The two stood like this for a few sweet moments before Corrin pulled back and waved for Cornelius to follow her. "Come on! It's almost dinner, and your siblings have been looking for you."
The Prince ran after her as the two made their way to the Mess Hall tent. As they did, Cornelius felt a lot calmer inside than he had earlier, thanks to Lucina. He would confront Garon when the time came, no doubt about that. Right now, however, he was just glad to be reunited with his true sister, and felt like this was only the beginning of something truly epic.
Let me know what you think so far!
