Codsworth was doing his best to take care of the falling apart house for the mum and sir when they eventually return if that is ever, it has been over 200 years now that he has been waiting for their return. As he was trimming the bushes in the front yard with his attached saw he heard what sounded almost like a crashing airplane suddenly coming from the sky, when he looked up he saw a very large fireball flying high above him and just as it was about to pass over him something came off of the large ball of fire and began falling straight towards sanctuary. He watched as the small ball of fire fell and smashed through the roof of one of the other abandoned houses in the neighborhood, and he then turned his attention back to the large fireball watching as it flew far into the distance and eventually out of sight. Thinking nothing of this strange experience due to his now 200 years of weird experiences he simply returned to trying to keep the house in good shape, which was much better said than done.
Jack woke up to his suit's systems blaring at him about suit damage and his shields failing him, as his HUD came online and his vision cleared he could see that he was in some kind of structure, almost like a house, 'that's impossible, I was just on Reach and I was about to be…' his thought trailed off as he remembered his squad and their evac and how it was shot down and was just about to crash into him. 'where am I?' he thought to himself as he sat up and looked around, he was currently laying on the rubble of the roof he came through and a couch that was luckily right where he came through. He then looked around and noticed that he was currently in some kind of living room but it wasn't like any sort of room that he was used to it looked…ancient or primitive in it's design even through all of the burn marks and dirt which he was also concerned about. With everything that he was noticing about this room he was just coming up with more questions than any possible answers that he could come up with.
Jack stood up slowly and carefully doing his best to not make any noise in case of any enemies or creatures that he might run into in this strange place. He reached for his assault rifle on his back only to realize he didn't have one, which he then reached for his pistol which to his surprise he also didn't have. He looked around the room searching to make sure they hadn't come off of him in the fall through the roof and after his quick but thorough search of the room he had to resort to taking his emergency knife out of it's holster and keeping it in his dominant hand. It was then that Jack noticed that his shields still weren't recharging and they should've been back to full at this point, he grumbled to himself as he figured they must have become damaged in the fall. 'Great' he thought to himself, 'gonna love trying to fight without those if there's anyone with any guns on them,' he though as he peaked through the doorway where it looked like a door had once been in the past. As he slowly eased himself out of the doorway he looked outside as he saw what looked like a small community of houses all very similar to the other but different in their own ways, such as how destroyed each one was. He looked to his right and saw that the road led to an old wooden bridge that looked like it was about to completely collapse under its own weight, 'what planet am I on that is this primitive in their technology?' he thought to himself as he turned to his left and for the first time noticed the robot in front of one of the houses down the street. He slowly made his way towards the robot figuring there was nothing else to do but see if the machine knew anything about where he was and how he could get home. 'Man this is such a stupid plan' he thought to himself as he got within 30 yards of the robot and when he was within 10 yards the robot turned to him which caused Jack to immediately stop and tighten his grip on his knife.
"Hello…sir? Or whatever you may be," the machine said to him surprising Jack at it's level of intelligence. It must have some sort of AI inside of it, but he wasn't worried about any of that at the moment, "What planet is this?" he asked looking around at all of the dead plants and destruction that seems to have plagued this area and possibly even this planet. "Why this is Earth, would you happen to be some sort of alien or something?" the machine asked him, 'what!?, this couldn't be Earth, the homes and technology wasn't this primitive looking on Earth' he thought to himself as he prepared to ask more questions. "If this is Earth where's the UNSC or any of the major cities?" he replied hoping the robot at least could tell him where the nearest UNSC outpost would be. "UNSC? Whatever might that be?" the machine asked seeming totally confused by the acronym, "The United Nations Space Command, their the military force that protects all human life from the covenant and helps to keep the peace across planets," Jack replied hoping to jog this robots memory. "I have no recollection or data on this 'space command' you speak of, or any other planets than this one that we've colonized," the robot replied seeming to become more wary of the Spartan. 'No other planets? Did I somehow go back in time?' he thought as the robot finished, "What year is it?" he asked hoping to get some answers at least, "It's 2287," the robot said matter-of-factly. 'There's no way that could be right, the UNSC has been formed well before the 2200's and there was no files ever talking about any attacks on earth that could've caused this type of damage,' he thought as he considered all the different explanations for this. "If I'm on earth, what city am I in?" he asked curious as to 'where he was'. "You're in the beautiful,… or what's left of the beauty, city of Boston, Massachusetts," the robot answered with some happiness in his mechanical voice.
'Boston? There's no way,' he had visited the city not that long before he was taken and it surely didn't look like this, "What did all of this destruction?" he asked looking at the falling apart houses and dead grass and trees everywhere. "Have you been living in some form of vault shelter for all the years of your life? The great war caused this with the Chinese red menace nuking all of America and causing every major city and state to be wiped out in less than a day." This answer smacked Jack in the face so hard he didn't even hear the next question the robot had asked him. 'The Chinese did this, this can't be my world but everything he's saying leads to this being the same planet.' The spartan paused and stared at the robot for a moment, 'I can't be In my own universe or whatever could have possibly caused this' he thought as he looked down at his hands and thought for a few short moments. "Are there any people left nearby, any that could have useful information for me?" he asked the machine before it turned and left him, "There's a small dirt path back from the direction you came that will lead you up to a vault that would be the closest place," the robot said as it returned to it's duties and began trimming the dead bushes again.
Jack turned from the robot and walked to the path that it had described for him, it was a small dirt path that had been slightly grown over in its years with a small wooden bridge that was in no better shape than the one leading away from the small community. As he walked over the bridge he felt it give way underneath his heavy armor breaking the boards that he stepped on, he then walked around to the side and just simply walked through the shallow stream, 'I hope all the bridges aren't like this one' he thought as he walked up the hill and followed more of the path until he came to a fence that had become heavily rusted from the years of being in the weather. He walked through the gate and saw two small blue buildings with yellow stripes on them, as he reached he top of the hill he saw what looked like a small circular platform. He didn't see any controls right next to the platform so he walked over to the closest building and saw a large red button, 'these people must not be the most complex of humans,' Jack thought as he pushed the red button and heard the loud sound of the platform opening and coming upwards. He then walked back out of the small room, ducking as he stepped through the doorframe, and he watched as a gear shaped platform rose out of the ground and stopped when it reached the surface. Jack stepped onto the platform and felt it shift as it began to sink back down into the ground taking him into this 'vault'.
Jack stepped off of the platform as the gate raised itself in front of him showing him a small metal staircase that lead to a giant metal gear shaped 'door'. 'what is this place?' he thought as he looked upon the almost impenetrable vault door that was in front of him, 'well how do I open you?' he thought as he walked up the staircase and looked at all the sides of the giant door, even making his 7'3" frame look somewhat small compared to this massive door. He eventually found some form of a small panel and after a small struggle with it he finally punched a hole through it and pulled the panel off of the door and peered inside to see what appeared to be some sort of emergency control panel. After he did a quick scan with his HUD to see if it could make sense out of any of it he finally just grabbed the entire panel and pulled it out of the hole as well, 'I don't know if this'll get the door to open but I'm no techie so I won't waste time trying to figure all of this out' he thought to himself as he tossed the now useless panel to the ground pulling the metal from the panel off from around his hand in the process as well.
As he stood there for a moment he was just about to give up as he heard an alarm start to blare and all of the lights turning off and being replaced by red warning lights. Jack faced the door and watched as it pulled slightly back before getting hung and then less than a second later it resuming its motion of being pulled further into the vault before it finally stopped and rolled off to the side with a metal walkway, that looked just like the stairs he was currently on, extended out and connected with the staircase. He stepped onto the platform and began walking into the vault making sure to keep his knife in hand and quickly looking over every corner of the entrance to this vault, but as he was looking down near the end of the walkway he noticed that there seemed to be a couple skeletons laying on the ground, 'well that's not a very good sign,' he thought as he finally stepped off of the platform and began to step towards a door to his right. But just as he was about to step up to the door to open it, he heard a gun go off behind him before he saw the bright flash of the bullet hitting the door frame not far from him. He whipped around and saw a smaller woman only being about 5'11" or so, wearing a blue suit of some kind that was skin tight like his body suit under his armor; she also had a small pistol in her hands pointing it at the large spartan. "Who are you or what are you?" she asked sounding as though she was trying to keep the terror out of her voice, she was failing miserably. "I am spartan 145 of the UNSC military, I was told that there would be people in here by the robot up on the surface," he replied trying to give her enough information to work with but not enough for here to figure him out. "What the hell is the UNSC?" the strange woman asked.
